Arnold H. Burkle

FARLEY, Iowa - Arnold H. Burkle, 73, of 8406 Farley Road, rural Farley, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle, the Rev. Dennis Cain and many other priests from the area officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery , Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a parish rosary service at 4:30 p.m., and a wake service at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Burkle farmed in the rural Farley area.

He was born on March 25, 1930, in Dubuque, son of Ralph C. and Thekla (Goedken) Burkle. He married Florella Platten on Aug. 25, 1953, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colesburg.

He received his education in the Dyersville area rural schools and Xavier School, Dyersville.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

He enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cards, gardening and going to farm auctions.

Surviving are his wife, Florella Burkle, of Farley; nine children, Daniel (friend, Joni) Burkle, of West Des Moines, Marilyn (Mark Christiansen) Burkle, of Milwaukee, Dean Burkle, of Dubuque, Doris Galvan, of Dunn, N.C., Steven Burkle and Beverly (Wayne) Prier, both of Dyersville, the Rev. Raymond Burkle, of Placid, Douglas (Bibha) Burkle, of Richmond, Va., and LeAnn (friend, Craig) Burkle, of Johnston; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Russell Galvan, Michael, Roxanne, Valerie, Melissa and Douglas Prier and Vasu Burkle; two sisters, Helen (Bob) Sperfslage, of Greeley, and Marie (Lloyd) Recker, of Manchester; two brothers, Louis (AnnaMae) Burkle, of Scotch Grove, and John Burkle, of Dubuque; four sisters-in-law, Dolores (Fritz) Pasker, Mary (Ralph) Vaske, Bernadine (Bill) Koelker and Jeanette (Bill) Digmann; and two brothers-in-law, George (Judy) Platten and Roger Platten.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna and Agnes Burkle, in infancy; and a sister-in-law, Beta Burkle.

The family of Arnold wishes to thank the Mercy Oncology staff (especially Sue Bushman) and Hospice of Dubuque (especially Dorothy) for the care and kindness shown to Arnold and his family during his illness.

Marion M. Kelly

EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. -Marion M. (DeVries) Kelly, 71, of 2618 Edgefield St., Greenwood, S.C., formerly of East Dubuque, died Thursday Sept. 4, 2003, at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Harley Funeral Home Chapel, Greenwood. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kelly worked at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, prior to her retirement.

She was born on Dec. 30, 1931, in Dubuque, daughter of John E. and Helen A. (Wilkins) DeVries. She married Bob Kelly on Sept. 12, 1954.

She graduated from East Dubuque High School and the former Mercy Hospital Radiology Program.

Surviving are her husband, Bob Kelly; four children, Dennis Kelly, Cheri (Leonard) Turner, Joyce Kelly and Mike (Theresa) Kelly; many grandchildren; a sister, Glora Kunz, of Dubuque; a brother, William (Adel) DeVries, of Joliet; a sister-in-law, Carol DeVries, of East Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John F. DeVries.

Ila I. Burke Lyne

SHULLSBURG, Wis. - Ila I. Burke Lyne, 99, of Shullsburg, passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at Southwest Health Center, Cuba City, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Shullsburg, with the Rev. James R. Lins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, Shullsburg, where there will be prayer services at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on July 21, 1904, in Blackfoot, Idaho, daughter of Francis and Elsie (Parks) Barker. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1922.

In 1924, she married John E. Burke in Blackfoot; he preceded her in death in 1951. She later married Joseph B. Lyne in 1958, in Shullsburg; he preceded her in death in 1977.

She lived in Blackfoot and Pocatello, Idaho, until the 1930s. She had lived in Shullsburg most of her life, where she resided until moving to Southwest Health Center, Cuba City, in 1998.

Ila was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Sodality. She also was a member of Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association.

She loved her family and playing cards. She belonged to a card club in Shullsburg for more than 50 years. She also enjoyed crocheting, baking and the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving are two daughters, Juanita Swift, of Platteville, and Barbara (Ronald) Foley, of Shullsburg; a son, John (Dee) Burke, of Antioch, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Doris Burke, of Rancho Murieta, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Enid Burke, of Mineral Point, and Louise Lyne, of Shullsburg; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold and Lyndon Barker; a sister, Edna Pack; a son, Francis Gerald "Jerry" Burke, in 1999; a grandson, Brian Foley, in 1969; and a son-in-law, Francis "Jerry" Swift, in 2001.

A special thank-you to the doctors and staff of Southwest Health Center for their kindness and excellent care given to Ila during her stay.

Blanche M. Reynolds

LANCASTER, Wis. - Blanche M. Reynolds, 90, of Lancaster, died Friday Sept. 5, 2003, at the Lancaster Care Center.

Arrangements are pending at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster.

Amelia A. Hager

BELLEVUE, Iowa - Amelia A. "Millie" Hager, 89, of Bellevue, died Thursday evening, Sept. 4, 2003, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kingery Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bellevue.

She was born on Oct. 27, 1913, in Springbrook, daughter of Mathias and Rosa (Weis) Jacobs. She was raised in Springbrook, and attended school there.

She married Joseph P. Hager on Oct. 3, 1932, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook; he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1994. She was a homemaker. They farmed in rural Bellevue, until their retirement in 1967. They then moved to Bellevue.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Bellevue Senior Citizens.

Surviving are three sons, Larry, and his wife, Patti, and Kermit, and his wife, Diane, all of Bellevue, and Glenn, of Camanche; a daughter, Joanette, and her husband, Terrence Lange, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Urban and Joseph; six sisters, Sister Carolina Blaise, Mary Kloft, Sedalia Hager, Agnes Ritter, Julitta Feltes and an infant sister, Leona; and an infant grandson, Christopher Lange.

Zachary P. Colomer

CUBA CITY, Wis. - Zachary P. Colomer, 20, of 109 N. Main St., Cuba City, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Aug. 10, 2003.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Haudenshield Funeral Home, Cuba City, with the Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery , Cuba City. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Colomer worked at Runde Buick in Cuba City.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1983, in McHenry, Ill., son of Pat and Patti (White) Colomer.

Prior to moving to Cuba City 12 years ago, he lived in McHenry. He attended Cuba City High School and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, Fennimore.

He was a very skilled mechanic and loved working on his car.

He enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his mother and father, Patti and Pat Colomer, of Cuba City; five brothers, Mickey Colomer, of Cuba City, Joshua Gates, of Elkhorn, Edward (Kelly) Williams and Shane (Erin) Williams, both of Wonderlake, Ill., and Michael (Scott) Williams, of Elgin, Ill.; his special friend, Elizabeth Curran, of Cuba City; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and two uncles, Eddie White and Rick Platt.

In lieu of flowers, a Zachary P. Colomer Memorial Fund has been established.

We will always love you and keep you in our hearts and prayers. Love always, your family and friends.

Marguerite V. Sibley

Mrs. Marguerite V. Sibley, 93, of 7234 Southern Ridge, San Antonio, Texas, formerly of 1660 University Ave., Dubuque, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Linwood Cemetery , both in Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque.

Mrs. Sibley worked at the Adams Co., until retiring in 1962.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1910, in Dubuque, daughter of Martin and Margaretha (Sutter) Riedi. She grew up in Dubuque.

She married John F. Sibley on May 5, 1961, at First Presbyterian Church; he passed away on Jan. 13, 1991.

She moved to Texas in November 1993 to live with her daughter, Nancy, and had been living there ever since.

She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women. She also was a former member of Caldron at Masonic Temple.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Nancy J. (Dennis) Flatley, of San Antonio; two sons, John L. "Jack" (Shirley) Sibley, of Peosta, Iowa, and Thomas A. (Carolyn) Imhof, of Bella Vista, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to The Finley Hospital Endowment Fund in memory of Marguerite and John Sibley.

Mark P. Anglin

Mark P. Anglin, 77, of 1910 St. Anne Court, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Key West, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Anglin was a fireman with the Dubuque Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 1982.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1925, in Dubuque, son of Mark and Rose (McFarland) Anglin. He married Patricia Kersch, and the two shared their lives together for 56 years.

Mark was born and raised in Dubuque. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 510. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge with his friends.

Mark was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose family was the most important thing in his life.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia, of Dubuque; his children, Michael (Camille) Anglin, of Shelter Island Heights, N.Y., Jeffrey (Jayne) Anglin, of Dubuque, Richard Anglin, of Chicago, and Mary Beth (Bill) Rissmann, of Coto de Caza, Calif.; six grandchildren, Ryan, Kimberly, Amber and Kristen Anglin and Bridget and Mark Rissmann; and three sisters, Jeanette (Dan) Lanser, of Dubuque, Shirley (George) Pins, of Dyersville, Iowa, and Harriet Curtis, of Cascade, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mark P. Anglin Memorial Fund has been established.

The Anglin family wishes to extend a special thank-you to their extended family and friends and to all the health care professionals for their endless concern and support.
