SAVANNA, Ill. - Sophie C. Mottin, 95, of Savanna, formerly of State Park, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Carroll County Good Samaritan Center, Mount Carroll.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights.
Raymond A. Wallenhorst
CUBA CITY, Wis. - Raymond A. Wallenhorst, 51, of 1024 N. Hollow Road, Cuba City, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City, with the Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wallenhorst farmed all of his life.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1951, in Hazel Green, son of Edwin and Marion (Northaus) Wallenhorst. He married Susan K. Niehaus on Aug. 14, 1976, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City.
He enjoyed being outside on his four wheeler. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose Parish.
Surviving are his wife, Susan, of Cuba City; two daughters, Tamara Wallenhorst (friend, Joe Kieffer), of Hazel Green, and Brenda (Dennis) Smith, of Dodgeville; a son, Ryan Wallenhorst, of Cuba City; his mother, Marion Wallenhorst, of Platteville; a sister, Marilyn (John) Folmer, of Cuba City; four brothers, Ralph (Judy) Wallenhorst, of Potosi, Robert (Marlene) Wallenhorst, of Menominee, Ill., Randy Wallenhorst, of Platteville, and Royce (Michelle) Wallenhorst, of Thorp; a sister-in-law, Molly Wallenhorst, of Thorp; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Wallenhorst; a brother, Roger Wallenhorst; and a nephew, Steven Wallenhorst.
A Raymond A. Wallenhorst Memorial Fund has been established.
Sandra J. Brandt
SHULLSBURG, Wis. - Sandra Joanne Brandt, 33, of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Shullsburg, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, in Shullsburg.
Services will be at noon Sunday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Shullsburg, with the Rev. James R. Lins officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery , Benton. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, Shullsburg, where there will be a prayer service at 8 p.m.
She was born on July 3, 1970, in Cuba City, daughter of Joseph and Marietta (Walton) Gleason. She married Dale Brandt on July 23, 1988, in San Diego.
Sandra graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1988. She lived in Shullsburg until her marriage.
She had traveled extensively and lived in many areas with her husband, who is in the Navy.
She was a loving mother and wife. She enjoyed taking care of her children and furthering her education. She also enjoyed reading.
Surviving are her husband, Dale Brandt, of Norfolk; her parents, Joe and Marietta Gleason, of rural Shullsburg; her children, Christopher and Emily Brandt, both at home; five brothers and sisters, Kathleen (Rick) Zach, of Hazel Green, Pat (Betty) Gleason and Dave (Mary Ellen) Gleason, both of Shullsburg, Mike Gleason, of Fairfield, Pa., and Sally (Matt) Johll, of Spring Valley, Ill.; her father and mother-in-law, John and Charlene Brandt, of Benton; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Hazel Walton; her paternal grandparents, Ben and Mary Gleason; and two brothers, Daniel, in 1983, and Thomas, in 1995.
A Sandra J. Brandt Memorial Fund has been established.
Rev. Harold E. Wagner
MANCHESTER, Iowa - Rev. Harold Eugene Wagner, 85, of Garner and Britt, formerly of Manchester, died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Geneseo United Methodist Church, rural Buckingham, south of Waterloo. Burial of the cremated remains will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Prairie Chapel Cemetery , rural Marion. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester. Friends also may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
He served in the Army Air Corps. He married Betty Louise Scott on Oct. 14, 1944, in Midland, Texas.
He was a Methodist minister. He served in Morley, Central City, West Falmouth, Massachusetts, Ackley, Parkersburg, Conrad, Geneseo, Garrison, Clinton, Camanche, Vinton and Nevada.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou, of Britt; three children, the Rev. David (Candace) Wagner, of Garner, Robert Wagner, of Greenwood, Ark., and Nancy (Ron) Engstrom, of Reynolds, Ill.; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
George J. Hosch
NEW VIENNA, Iowa - George J. Hosch, 82, of 7560 Columbus St., New Vienna, died at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Oakcrest Manor, Dyersville, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John J. O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
Mr. Hosch was a farmer in the rural New Vienna area until his retirement.
He was born on July 25, 1921, in Cascade, son of Peter and Katherine Ann (Kurt) Hosch. He married Lois White on April 27, 1949, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington.
He was a member of St. Boniface Parish in New Vienna, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He also served as a former board member and trustee for the parish. He was a former member of the Cattlemen's Association and a former director for the New Vienna Savings Bank.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Hosch, of New Vienna; three children, Joyce (Peter) Huettl, of Oregon, Wis., and Earl (Joan) Hosch and Gene (Sara) Hosch, both of New Vienna; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas Huettl, Paul Huettl, Philip Huettl, Karla Hosch, Sara Hosch, Lisa Hosch, Brett Hosch, Tina Hosch, Abby Hosch and Jared Hosch; two brothers, Harold Hosch and Edwin (Millie) Hosch, both of Cascade; three sisters, Margaret (Don) Koopman, of Epworth, Rosie Koopmann, of Delhi, and Katherine (Larry) Knipper, of Dyersville; a brother-in-law, LeRoy (Rosene) Trumm, of Cascade; and a sister-in-law, Julie Hosch, of Cascade.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Paula Hosch; a sister, Mary Trumm; a brother, John P. Hosch; and a brother-in-law, John Koopmann.
Memorials may be given to Beckman High School and to the Hennessey Catholic School in New Vienna.
Harvey L. Portwine
EDGEWOOD, Iowa - Harvey L. Portwine, 92, of Strawberry Point, formerly of Edgewood, died Monday night, Sept. 1, 2003, at Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point, following a long illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leonard Funeral Home, Edgewood. There will be no visitation.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery , rural Colesburg.
Allan L. Sedlmayr
BAGLEY, Wis. - Allan L. Sedlmayr, 86, of Oconomowoc, formerly of Bagley, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living, Oconomowoc.

Jesse F. VanDeWiel
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Jesse F. VanDeWiel, 19, of Platteville, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Southwest Health Center, Platteville, as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tennyson, with the Rev. Jes Tarp officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Martin Page Funeral Home, Platteville. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1983, son of Fredrick and Janice (Boomer) VanDeWiel.
Jesse was a 2002 graduate of Platteville High School and was attending St. Norbert's College in DePere.
He absolutely loved music. He also loved cars, motorcycles and his dog.
Surviving are his parents, Fred and Janice VanDeWiel, a sister, Emily VanDeWiel, and his maternal grandmother, Catherine Boomer, all of Platteville; his aunts and uncles, Mike (Chris) VanDeWiel, Jolene Jansen and Wanda (Spencer) Bilderback, all of Platteville, Pat Ruchti, of Des Moines, Colleen (Gene) Draper, of Stoughton, Beverly Back, of Madison, Darrell (Lynn) Boomer, of Rhinelander, and Joan VanDeWiel, of Richmond Annex, Calif.; several cousins; and his dog, Sabe.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Irvin Boomer; his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Virginia VanDeWiel; and his uncles, Wayne VanDeWiel, Ralph VanDeWiel Jr., George VanDeWiel and Justin VanDeWiel.
In lieu of plants and flowers, a Jesse F. VanDeWiel Memorial Fund has been established.

Roger R. Curry
DARLINGTON, Wis. - Roger R. Curry, 56, of rural Darlington, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, Darlington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Darlington, with the Rev. Larry Hakes, of the Darlington United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery , Darlington.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Steil Camacho Funeral Home, 206 E. Harriet St., Darlington.
Marion Hackney
Marion A. Hackney, 78, of 1843 Auburn, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mrs. Hackney worked in the marking department at the former Roshek's Department Store and as an enumerator and supervisor for R.L. Polk City Directory for 30 years.
She was born on July 12, 1925, in Pelican Rapids, Minn., daughter of Anton and Marie (Holtz) Jorstad.
She volunteered for the Red Cross for 30 years, both as a disaster chairperson and as a receptionist in The Finley Hospital Surgical waiting room. She received the Dubuque Chapter of the Red Cross first disaster service award, which is now named the Marion Hackney Disaster Service Award.
She loved the outdoors, was an avid environmentalist and enjoyed fishing. She was a member of the Dubuque Chapter of the Izaak Walton League for 20 years, 15 years as the membership chairperson. In addition to the Marion Hackney Disaster Service Award, she earned many other volunteer awards for her work with the Red Cross and Izaak Walton League. She also was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, John "Jack" Hackney, of Dubuque; a daughter, Gail Miller (David Goetzinger), of Dubuque; a son: Dale (Nancy Lee) Hackney, of Blythe, Calif.; and nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Breanna, Kaila, Tiara, Jared, Jordan and Jakeb Hackney and Lisa and Jeffrey Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross of the Tri-States and Hospice of Dubuque.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially nurse Barb Kennicker, Dr. Kukla and his staff and the many friends who stopped by with well wishes.
