Marjorie Nash
GALENA, Ill. - Marjorie Nash, 86, of Galena, formerly of Salem, Wis., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Galena-Stauss Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Strang Funeral Home, Antioch. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery , Salem. There will be no visitation. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, is in charge of local arrangements.
She was born on Feb. 20, 1917, in Salem, daughter of Clarence and Addie (Taylor) Crowley. She married Oren Nash; he preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1981.
She made her home in Galena for the past 50 years. She enjoyed playing golf and going on annual trips to Texas. She also enjoyed cheering on her favorite football and baseball teams.
Surviving are a brother, Kenneth Crowley; two nieces, Janet (Walter) Finkbeiner, of Sacramento, Calif., and Katherine (Edmund Hunt) Crowley, of Gurnee; a nephew, Stephen (Ba) Crowley, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and eight great-nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a niece, Charlotte.
Vera I. Cole
MANCHESTER, Iowa - Vera I. Cole, 79, of Manchester, died Saturday evening, Aug. 23, 2003, at Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, after a short illness.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester, with the Rev. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, where there will be a scripture service at 5 p.m. Friends also may call after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Surviving are four sons and their wives, James and Carol Cole, of Hopkinton, Jack and Clara Cole, of Dyersville, and Jerry and Barb Cole and Joseph and Shirley Cole, both of Manchester; two daughters, Shirley Bears, and her husband, Gene, of Mesa, Ariz., and Patricia Stuckenschneider, of Cedar Rapids; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Kuncl, of Prague, Neb., and Hilda Koch, of Richland Center, Wis.; and two brothers, Joe Klein and his wife, Viola, and Francis Klein, all of Manchester.
Margaret M. Bass
LANCASTER, Wis. - Margaret M. Bass, 83, of Lancaster, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. Tom Callahan officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery , Lancaster. Friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on July 21, 1920, in Glen Haven, daughter of Charles and Alta (Williams) Bushnell.
She married Orville A. Bass in 1939, in Clinton, Iowa; he preceded her in death in 1976. They owned and operated Bass Newstand and built their house in the early 1950s. Over the years, she also worked at McCarville's A&W, Grant Community Clinic and F&M Bank.
She enjoyed neighborhood barbecues, playing cards, hunting mushrooms, picking up and cracking nuts, going to garage sales, antiques, baking Christmas cookies with butternuts and delivering them, trick-or-treaters at Halloween, shopping and visiting relatives. She especially enjoyed her grandsons.
Margaret always valued her friendship with her co-workers at F&M, and her other friends and relatives.
Surviving are a son, William (Vicki) Bass, of Lancaster; two grandsons, Zachary (Amanda Fair) Bass, of San Francisco, and Jediah Bass, of Lancaster; and a great-grandson, Logan Bass, of Platteville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Joseph F. Burns
WORTHINGTON, Iowa - Joseph F. Burns, 85, of 109 First St. N., Worthington, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion Post 656. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m., and the Farley American Legion will meet at 7 p.m.
Mr. Burns worked as a mechanic at the former McDermott Ford, Dyersville, and Whalen's Auto Body, Dubuque, and later at Beckett's Chevrolet, Dyersville. He also owned and operated Joe Burns Auto Repair in Worthington.
He was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Marengo, son of Martin F. and Blanch (Hume) Burns. He married Mary T. Kotz on June 14, 1946, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington; she preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 1998.
He was a World War II Army veteran, having served as a T5 from 1941 to 1945.
He was a member of St. Paul's Parish, Worthington, and its altar and rosary society. He also was a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656 and the Worthington Senior Citizen's.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo (William) Pasker, of Dyersville, and Julie (David) Kurt, of Cascade; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo (Betty) Burns, of Dubuque; and brother and sister-in-laws, Al (Madeline) Kotz, of Dubuque, Vincent (Maggie) Kotz, of Farley, Delores Kotz, Jean Ann (Gene) Kernall and Ray Simon, all of Dubuque, and Loras (Elaine) Kotz, of Arizona.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert E. Burns, on June 7, 1986; and three sisters, Vivian Nadermann, Pat Burns and Kate Johnston.
The family of Joseph would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque County, Fr. Douglas Loecke, and the staff of Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, for all the care they gave to Joe.
James B. Hurst
James B. "Jim" Hurst, 75, of 11948 Sherrill Road, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2025 Jackson St. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
Mr. Hurst was a truck driver for Gateway Transportation for more than 30 years.
He was born on April 11, 1928, in Blue River, Wis., son of Arthur and Eva (Orr) Hurst. He married Opal P. Greenwood on Nov. 20, 1946, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
He served with the National Guard for two years. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Teamsters Union, Local 421.
He was the flagman at the Sports Bowl and at the Lancaster and Darlington, Wis., and Farley, Iowa, racetracks.
He was an avid fan of his children and grandchildren's wrestling and stock car racing. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.
Surviving are his wife, Opal B. Hurst; a daughter, Sandy D. (Loras) Wolbers, of East Dubuque, Ill.; three sons, Larry J. Hurst and Rickey J. (Kathy) Hurst, both of Dubuque, and Steve J. (Luann) Hurst, of Hazel Green, Wis.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Lucy Nichols, of Dubuque, and special friends, Stan and Bernice Robey, of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Susan Hurst; and two sisters, Mrs. Smokey (Harriet) Schumacher and Mrs. David (Edna) Allen.
A James B. Hurst Memorial Fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Sullivan and the nurses and staff of 3 West at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, for their care and concern for Jim.

BETTENDORF, Iowa - Harvey A. Clausen, 64, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at home, after a long struggle with leukemia.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Among survivors are three stepchildren, Mary Heiderscheit, of Sherrill, Anne Ruden, of Dubuque, and Marly (Rick) Schilling, of Durango.
Melita M. Faulhaber
Mrs. Henry (Melita M.) Faulhaber, 84, of 2206 Woodlawn St., died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Mercy Medial Center-Dubuque.

Mrs. William M. (Norma M.) Beam, 74, of 222 Devon Drive, died at 2:39 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Floyd F. Cole
MANCHESTER, Iowa - Floyd Francis Cole, 61, of Manchester, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester, with burial in the church cemetery.

Wyndelle E. Rodgers
Wyndelle E. "Wendy" Rodgers, 42, of 2285 Francis St., died at 8:33 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Linda Hefel
Linda Hefel, 53, of 12256 Circle Ridge Road, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at home, surrounded by her family.

David J. Nagle
David Joseph Nagle, 39, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Dubuque, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at home, after a long illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1755 Delhi St., Dubuque. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens, Freeport, Ill., at a later date. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, provided the information.
Mr. Nagle worked as a cardiovascular nurse for several years. Subsequently, he followed his passion and worked many years as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer in the Houston and Dallas areas.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1963, in Dubuque, son of Betty and Al Cordes.
He graduated with a bachelor of nursing degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1989.
He fought his illness valiantly and refused to lose his independence until death. His warmth and charisma brought out a smile in everyone who met him.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Betty and Al Cordes, of Dubuque; three brothers, Robert (Teri) Nagle, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Kristin Toom) Nagle and Andrew Nagle, both of Dubuque; three stepbrothers, Lynn (Candi) Cordes, of St. Charles, Ill., Tim (Nancy) Cordes, of Batavia, Ill., and Paul Cordes, of Chandler, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews, Barbara, Colin and Michael Cordes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Nagle; and his grandparents.
