Helen E. Muir
Helen E. "Betty" Muir, 83, of Bethany Home, formerly of 2514 Windsor Ave., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Bethany Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Third Presbyterian Church, with burial in Linwood Cemetery . Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
She was a secretary at the University of Dubuque for 42 years.
She was born on April 16, 1920, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Elizabeth (George) Muir.
She was a longtime member of Third Presbyterian Church.
Surviving is a sister, Ruth J. Muir, of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, J. Stanley Muir.
Memorials may be given to Bethany Home, Third Presbyterian Church and The Finley Hospital.
David J. Nagle
David Joseph Nagle, 39, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Dubuque, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at home, after a long illness.
Gerald C. Ahmann
Gerald C. Ahmann, 70, of 2285 Woodlawn St., died at 2:52 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Otting officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Ahmann worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 30 years, and in 1984, started D&J Lawn Service and worked until his retirement in 1998.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1932, in Farley, Iowa, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Meyer) Ahmann. He married Patricia Welchert on June 29, 1957, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
He served in the Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 150A and the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; a daughter, DeeAnn (Dale) Gaul, of Peosta, Iowa; a son, Doug (Mary) Ahmann, of Woodbury, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Katie, Maggie, Jane, Elizabeth, Shelby, Carley, Hans, Gretchen and Reba; two brothers, Doyle (Clara) Ahmann and Don (Joyce) Ahmann, both of Dubuque; and a sister, Bernice (Howard) Bibne, of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene; and a brother, Kenneth.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association and to Hospice of Clinton, Iowa.
The family of Gerald would like to thank the Alzheimer's Association, the staff at Crestridge Nursing Home and Hospice of Clinton, Iowa, for the great care, support and kindness they showed both Gerald and his family.
Ralph L. Kluesner
NEW VIENNA, Iowa - Ralph L. Kluesner, 72, of New Vienna, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, after a brief bout with cancer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137, of Dyersville. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 5 p.m., an American Legion Post 137 service at 7 p.m., and a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 8 p.m.
He was born on June 16, 1931, in New Vienna, son of Raymond and Luella (Buenker) Kluesner.
He graduated from St. Boniface High School, after which he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he began working at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Boniface Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 137 and the United Auto Workers Local 94. He served on the New Vienna City Council from 1989 to 1999.
Ralph enjoyed gardening and traveling and was a great sports fan, enjoying the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Surviving are four sisters, Helen Reardon, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Sister Marian Kluesner, F.S.P.A., of El Paso, Texas, Jean Kluesner, of New Vienna, and Elizabeth (Leonard) Leick, of Epworth; a brother, Robert (Bridget) Kluesner, of Roseville, Minn.; a special friend, Mary Althoff, of Marion; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Kluesner, of Dyersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Francis Kluesner; a brother-in-law, Francis Reardon; and a niece, Maureen Reardon.

Sandra J. Dix, 54, of 1226 Rhomberg Ave., died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

PRAIRIE du CHIEN, Wis. - Donald Delmer Hand, 78, of Prairie du Chien, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Prairie du Chien, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery , Prairie du Chien.

ELKADER, Iowa - Edward Alonzo Burlingame Jr., 92, of Elkader, formerly of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Elkader Care Center, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Albert H. Noble
MINERAL POINT, Wis. - Albert H. "Foggy" Noble, 77, of Mineral Point, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Upland Hills Health, Dodgeville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ, Mineral Point, with the Rev. David Schlieter and the Rev. Beryl Melcher officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the Mineral Point American Legion. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gorgen Funeral Home, Mineral Point. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
He was born on July 18, 1926, in Mineral Point, son of Wallace and Bertha (Paynter) Noble.
He attended Mineral Point Schools, and at age 17, enlisted in the Navy, where he served during World War II.
Upon his return from service, he worked various jobs and farmed with his brother and father. He also worked for Farm Loan Service. In 1985, he started his own business, Auction Specialists, Inc. He obtained his real estate license because it complimented the auction business. He operated Noble Real Estate until he sold his business in 2000. He operated Auction Specialists, Inc., and remained active in real estate, but his real love was farming. He enjoyed farming with his son, Scott, which he did up until the time of his death. He worked all the time, with booking and working at the farms, with household and antique auctions, along with selling real estate. He could be found working seven days a week.
He was active in his church and community affairs, and was a longtime member, Past Commander and Drill Squad Commander of the Mineral Point American Legion, Homer and Lee Parkinson Post 170.
He also served on the Mineral Point School Board for eight years. He was inducted into the Auctioneer Hall of Fame and received the Citizen of the Year Award.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a son, Scott (Kim) Noble, of Mineral Point; his children from a previous marriage, Larry and Jack, of Dodgeville, Jennifer, of Mineral Point, and Laura, of Waterloo, Iowa; three stepchildren, Greg (Wanda) Godfrey, Mike (Laurie) Godfrey and Deb (Jim) Bowers, all of Mineral Point; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Virginia) Noble, of Mineral Point, and Bob (Louise) Noble, of Pewaukee; two sisters, Mary (Jerry) Brown, of Mosinee, and Mildred, of California; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an uncle, Bob Paynter; a sister, Jane Noble; and a brother-in-law, Homer Noble.
Leone J. Kloss
ELIZABETH, Ill. - Leone J. Kloss, 87, of Elizabeth, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Morgan Memorial Nursing Home, Stockton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Christopher Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, where there will be a rosary service at 7:30 p.m., with Deacon David Wilbricht officiating.
Surviving are three sons, Harvey Kloss, Stanley (Joan) Kloss and Thomas Kloss, all of Elizabeth; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Hay, of Warren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sons, Robert and Russell.
Calista M. Turpin
GALENA, Ill. - Calista M. Turpin, 85, of Galena, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the Galena Stauss Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1917, in Elizabeth, daughter of Andrew and Marie (Berlage) Meyer.
She married Wallace Turpin on Jan. 24, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elizabeth. They farmed in the Elizabeth and Galena areas.
She attended elementary school at the Weston School in rural Elizabeth and graduated from the Elizabeth (Ill.) High School.
She was a member of St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling and playing cards with their friends. She also enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, reading and visiting family and friends.
Surviving are four sons, Marion (JoAnn) Turpin, of Geneseo, Donald (Faye) Turpin, of Shullsburg, Wis., Ronald (Ruth Ann) Turpin, of Elroy, Wis., and Stanley (Jeanne) Turpin, of Galena; a daughter, Kathleen Sproule, of Hartshorne, Okla.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Elden) Sanderson, of Shullsburg; and a sister-in-law, Claire Meyer, of Rockford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Eleanor; and a brother, Reynold.
Memorials may be given to Hospice and Retirement and Rest Home at the Galena Stauss Hospital and Health Center.
James E. Latham
James E. "Jim" Latham, 59, of Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Ill., formerly of 2373 Washington St., Dubuque, died at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the nursing home.
Chapel services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Following cremation, the cremated remains will be placed in Johannes Chapel at Mount Calvary Cemetery , Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Latham worked as a machinist at Klauer Mfg. Co. for more than 20 years.
He was born on May 16, 1944, in Dubuque, son of William E. and Ruth Marie (Jacobs) Latham. He married Judith Ann Rohner on July 16, 1966, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dubuque.
He served in the National Guard Reserves. He enjoyed bowling and doing yard work. He was a devoted husband, father and brother.
Surviving are his wife, Judith A. Latham; a daughter, Lisa A. Latham, of Dubuque; two sons, Darrin S. Latham, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Adam M. Latham, of Dubuque; four brothers, William (Lee) Latham, Randy Latham and Ray L. Latham, all of Dubuque, and Larry Latham, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 1690 Elm St., Dubuque, Iowa 52001 and to Big Meadows Nursing Home, 1000 Longmoor Ave., Savanna, Ill. 61074.
