Ned E. Chapman
HANOVER, Ill. - Ned E. Chapman, 61, of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of Hanover, died suddenly Wednesday, July 16, 2003.
Memorial services were held July 22 in Hayward, Calif. A second memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Evergreen Cemetery , Hanover.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1942, in Savanna, son of E.W. "Bill" and Vivian Chapman.
He served three years in the Army.
He began his accounting career at Price Waterhouse in Peoria, and then transferred to their San Jose, Calif., office in 1974. He was a certified public accountant and a graduate of Northern Illinois University in 1966.
At the time of his death, he was working as chief financial officer for Able Electronics Corp., in Hayward. During his career, he also worked as chief financial officer for Saronix, in California, and STAT Healthcare, Inc., in Houston. He was co-founder of Applied Information Memories in Austin, Texas, and director of corporate accounting for Intel and chief accountant for Memorex, both in California.
His incredible success in life is evidenced by the respect he earned from many business associates and friends while he pursued his career with unwavering integrity and honor.
Ned enjoyed fishing with friends, playing Let It Ride poker and bringing laughter to many with his quick dry wit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Betsy Chapman, of Kingwood; a daughter, Christa (Jeffrey) Bean, of Kingwood; a son, Bradley Chapman, of Austin; sisters, Carol (Wally) Cloven, of Chelmsford, Mass., and Eileen (Herb) Buss, of Lincoln, Neb.; and a brother, Frank (Lois) Chapman, of Hilton Head, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Merlin R. Kittoe
POTOSI, Wis. - Merlin R. "Bob" Kittoe, 76, of Cassville, formerly of Potosi, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson, with the Rev. John Norder and Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery , Tennyson, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, where there will be a parish scripture service at 3:15 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Friday at Martin Page Funeral Home, Potosi.
Mr. Kittoe worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 32 years.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1927, in Grant County, son of Thomas and Eunice (Kittoe) Holt. He married Elizabeth Miller in November 1948 in Dubuque; she preceded him in death in August 1970. He later married Ella Holt on May 19, 1990.
He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1947, during World War II. He was a member of the Mumm Welsh American Legion Post 352, in Cassville.
He owned four airplanes, enjoyed flying and loved fishing. For several months each year, he lived at Toledo Bend Reservoir in Louisiana.
Surviving are his wife, Ella Kittoe, of Cassville; eight children, Sherry Stauffer, of Grand Mound, Iowa, Robert "Buzz" (Deb) Kittoe, Mike (Betsy) Kittoe and Patty (Tim) Post, all of Potosi, Dan (Janice) Kittoe and Larry (Rita) Kittoe, both of Anchorage, Ala., Lenny (Bev) Kittoe, of Baraboo, and Anna Kittoe, of Tacoma, Wash.; five stepchildren, Larry (Pam) Holt, Douglas Holt and Kevin Holt, all of Platteville, Pamela Arnold, of Fennimore, and Donell Hefel, of Dubuque; 38 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Amanda (Joe) Reuter, of Lancaster, Donna Mae Rockwell, of Dubuque, and Eva Sue Ginter, of Platteville; and many nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, Donald and Marvin Holt; and a sister, Anna Marie Murray.
The family would like to especially thank Kim, Laurie and Ann of Grant County Hospice for their compassionate care.

HANOVER, Ill. - James Nelson Speer, 91, of Brevard, N.C., formerly of Eustis, Fla., and Princeton and Hanover, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Ivy Hill Health and Retirement Center, Brevard.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Log Church Cemetery , rural Hanover.
Arlene M. Neebel
RAYMOND, Iowa - Arlene Mary Neebel, 70, of Raymond, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at her son's home in Dubuque, of cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Waterloo. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 300 W. Ridgeway, Waterloo, where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She was born on June 11, 1933, in Waterloo, daughter of William and Geneva (Harmon) Clark.
She married William J. Neebel on Nov. 15, 1947, in Waterloo; he died on Sept. 19, 1998. She and her husband owned and operated A&B Jug Store and Antiques.
Arlene was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Raymond, regularly leading the rosary.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson, window shopping and collecting dolls, angels and miniatures.
Surviving are three sons and their children, Roger (Terry) Neebel, of Waterloo, and children, Vance Neebel, of Evansdale, and Allen (Melissa) Neebel, of Gilbertville, and a great-grandson, Brady Neebel, of Gilbertville; William (Ellen) Neebel, of Decorah, and children, Roscoe Neebel, of West Union, and Sarah (Greg Bruns) Neebel, of Cedar Falls; and Danial (Julie) Neebel, of Dubuque, and Andy, Kate, Blake and Paige Neebel, all of Dubuque; a brother, Wilbur "Bill" Clark, of Waterloo; and two sisters, Margaret Kent, of Cedar Falls, and Patricia Spooner, of Waterloo.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Frost; a brother, Joe Clark; and a sister, Emma Butterfield.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Raymond, and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Sammy W. Potts, 54, of 1899 Vizaleea Drive, died from natural causes Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at home.
Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1948, in Terre Haute, Ind., son of Gene and Wanda (Rice) Potts.
He lived and worked in the Dubuque area for many years. He worked for Montgomery Ward Auto Service Department in both Chicago and Dubuque. Most recently, he was a manager at Weldon Tire on Century Drive until his death.
Sammy was a past president and an active member of the Eagles Club and never faltered from being a "true" Chicago Bears fan. He also was an avid collector of John Wayne memorabilia.
Surviving are his fiancee, Sheryl Sprague, of Dubuque; two sons, Dennis (Brenda) Potts, of Wolcottville, Ind., and Michael (Sara) Potts, of Terre Haute; two sisters, Carolyn (Frank) Cliff and Cindy (Fred) Fenton, both of Terre Haute; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering and final farewell to Sammy will be held after 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Eagles Club on Century Drive.
