Richard H. Benke
MONTICELLO, Iowa - Richard H. "Dick" Benke, 66, of Monticello, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with the Rev. Donald Schmitt officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish scripture service at 7 p.m.
He was born on May 23, 1937, in Cascade, son of Clarence and Nellie (Roling) Benke. He married Ruth Ann Westemeier on Oct. 11, 1958, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Dyersville.
He graduated from Xavier High School, class of 1955. He attended Loras College and began working with his father at B&W Appliance in Dyersville. He moved to Monticello in 1963 and worked for REM Electric until establishing RB Electronics in 1968, from which he retired in 2001. He was the scoutmaster in Dyersville in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and was involved in scouting in Monticello.
Dick was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1821 and the Sacred Heart Guild. Upon his death, he was an organ donor.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann; a daughter, Rebecca (fiance, John Hoist, of Dubuque) Easterling, of Cascade, and her fiance, John Hoist, of Dubuque; two sons, Russell (Denise) Benke, of Onslow, and Rodney (Maria) Benke, of Severn, Md.; his mother, Nellie Benke, of Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade; a grandson, Richard Easterling, of Cascade; two brothers, Ronald (fiancee, Linda Kremer) Benke, of Dyersville, and David (Mary) Benke, of Cascade; a sister, Deanne Manza, of Winterhaven, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Benke, of Wynnewood, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; a son, Randall, in 1981; two brothers, Dennis, in infancy, and Alan Benke, in 1983; and a grandson, John Randall Easterling, in infancy.
Lucille Ackerman
CASSVILLE, Wis. - Lucille "Peggy" Ackerman, 93, of Guttenberg, Iowa, formerly of Cassville, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at the Guttenberg Care Center.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Martin Page Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be in the Cassville Cemetery . Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ackerman worked at Stonefield Village for 21 years.
She was born on June 28, 1910, in Beetown Township, daughter of James and Minnie (Rech) Perrin. She married LeRoy L. "Hatch" Ackerman on June 24, 1929, in Cassville.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Cassville.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing bridge, reading and caring for her family.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Mary) Ackerman, of Guttenberg, and David Ackerman, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Nick, Michael, Jamie and Susan; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Okey, of Dubuque, and Ruth (Woodie) Grisham, of Salado, Texas; and a brother, Leland (Vivian) Perrin, of Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; a sister, Opal Lewis; four brothers, Charles, Frank, Virgil and Donald Perrin; and a daughter-in-law, Connie (O'Neill) Ackerman.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to the Cassville Fire Department or to the benefactor of your choice.

PEOSTA, Iowa - Louise W. Clark, 78, of 709 Missy Drive, Peosta, died at midnight Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Luther Manor, Dubuque.
Graveside services and burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Cemetery , near Cleveland, Ohio. There will be no public visitation. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Clark owned and operated a picture framing shop in Roanoke, Ind., for 12 years.
She was born on March 21, 1924, in Cleveland, daughter of Richard and Alnora Winder, of Cleveland.
In retirement, she and her husband spent winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., where she enjoyed playing bridge and exercising in the pool. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Roy Clark; a son, Chris (Sue), of Dubuque; and grandchildren, Jonathan and Peter, both of Dubuque, and Adam, of Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Kukla, Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor for the wonderful care Louise received.

DARLINGTON, Wis. - Joan E. Salis, 74, of Darlington, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at LaFayette County Manor, Darlington, surrounded by her family.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Darlington, with the Rev. Randy Budnar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery , Shullsburg. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Steil Camacho Funeral Home, Darlington, where there will be a scripture service at 8 p.m.
The former Joan Ellen Wright was born June 5, 1928, in Shullsburg Township, daughter of Orville and Irma (O'Neill) Wright. She married Norton H. Salis on June 25, 1952, at Holy Rosary Parsonage.
She graduated from Darlington High School in 1946, and Edgewood College in 1950, with a primary education degree. She taught third grade in Sauk City Elementary School for two years.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Darlington, and its Council of Catholic Women.
Surviving are her husband, Norton; her children: Jane (Louis) Paynter, of Fond du Lac, John (Kay) Salis, of Waunakee, and Jean (Loras) Kruser, of Shullsburg; her grandchildren, Kathleen (Ken) Cooper, of Minneapolis, Sarah Kruser (fiance, Robert Ambrose, of Atlanta) at Roosevelt College in Chicago, and Elizabeth Kruser at Marquette University in Milwaukee; many friends; and her cat, Ralph.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial fund will be established in Joan's name at a later time.
