LEADMINE, Wis. - Serena R. Moon, 88, of Leadmine, rural Benton, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in the Leadmine Primitive Methodist Cemetery.

Edna J. Bormann

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Edna J. Bormann, 85, of Maquoketa, formerly of the Sugar Creek area, rural Preston, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sugar Creek, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston.

John H. O'Leary

MANCHESTER, Iowa - John H. "Jack" O'Leary, 90, of Manchester, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at the Garnett Place Retirement Community, Cedar Rapids.

Arrangements are pending at the Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester.

William J. Lynn

William J. Lynn, 74, of 1222 Blackhawk Drive, died at 5:08 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness, with his family by his side.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Lynn owned and operated the family grocery store, the former Lynn's Food Market, at 424 W. Locust St., and was a third generation grocer. After he left the family business, he worked for Vallet Poultry as a sales representative until his retirement in 1993.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1928, in Dubuque, son of Melvin and Hazel (Chewning) Lynn. He married Jeannette Fay on April 21, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He graduated from the former Loras Academy and was an Army Korean War Veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Jeannette; two daughters, Karen (Greg) Clemen and Mary Beth (Steve) Bowden, both of Dubuque; four sons, Robert F. (Leigh Ann) Lynn, David J. (Vallerie) Lynn and Kevin J. (Kerri) Lynn, all of Dubuque, and Keith W. (Karen) Lynn, of Saint Francis, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, James C. (Rose Marie) Lynn, of Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Walter W. Lovett

Walter W. Lovett, 85, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 743 Roberts St., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at the care center

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on July 16, 1918, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Walter and Edith (Hayes) Lovett.

He married Darlene Farley on July 19, 1939, at St. Joseph Church, Waterloo, Iowa. They had been married for 64 years. They belonged to Nativity Parish since May 1962. Walter and Darlene were square dancers with the Tri-State Twirlers, where he was president for 21/2 years.

Mr. Lovett worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 42 years. He started as a machinist apprentice. He worked in Waterloo, Council Bluffs and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Chicago, and Minneapolis as a foreman. He came to Dubuque in 1962, as a general foreman.

After his retirement in 1979, Walter started playing golf at Bunker Hill. He had two holes in one.

He served on the board of Project Concern. He served as a volunteer fireman for five years in Park Forest, Ill. Walter also sang with the Nativity Choir and helped with bingo. He was a member of Nativity Rosary and Guild. Walter also was a member of Mercy Seniorsize Club.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; two sons, Robert (Kathy) Lovett, of Savage, Minn., and Joseph (Debby) Lovett, of Dubuque; four daughters, Martha (Jim) Farber, of Dubuque, Joyce (Jim) Lyons, of Zimmerman, Minn., Valerie (Dave) Roll, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Anne (Ernie) Stone, of Red Wing, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, Vicky (Doug) Murphy, Brent (Megan) Lovett, Shelby Lovett, Leighton Lovett, Jeffrey (Janet) Lovett, Jody Collins, Jessica (Jeff) Holst, Kristina Gleeson, Matthew (Kimberly) Hendricks, Andrea Daedlow, Andrew and Eric Stone, Seth Farber and Alicia Roll; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jacob Murphy, Brandie Jo, Corey and Jenna Collins, Haley Daedlow and Cayden Lovett; and a sister, Joan (Philip) Snow, of Fort Collins, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Marian Lovett, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, Tony Lyons.

A Walter Lovett Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Dr. Salas and the wonderful staff and caregivers at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque.

Patrick W. Murray

CUBA CITY, Wis. - Patrick W. Murray, 67, of 697 Kirkwood Road, Cuba City, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City, with the Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery . Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City, where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Murray was a farmer for 25 years in the Darlington area and in the Cuba City area after moving there in 1966. He also worked at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring in 1991.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1935, in Darlington, son of Irvin and Helen (McGowan) Murray. He married Margaret L. Grimme on Sept. 24, 1955.

Pat was a Green Bay Packers fan. Going to the 1996 Super Bowl in New Orleans with his son and grandson was the highlight of his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council and United Auto Workers Local 94.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret, of Cuba City; a daughter, Diane Murray, of Addison, Texas; three sons, Stephen (Krys) Murray and Joseph (Cathy) Murray, both of The Colony, Texas, and Dean (Jeanie) Murray, of Franklin; four sisters, Arlene Connolly, of Darlington, Mary Jo (Jerry) Hytry, of Stephens City, Va., Kathy Murray, of Lomita, Calif., and Shirley (Jerry) Roh, of Platteville; two brothers, Francis and Donald Murray, both of Darlington; 10 grandchildren, Macy Schlichting and Brittney, Haven, Kinley, Christopher, Tonya, Amy, Alyssa, Chad and Mackenzie Murray; and his mother-in-law, Kathleen Grimme Kilcoyne, of Cuba City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Helen Murray; and his father-in-law, Orville Grimme.

A Patrick W. Murray Memorial Fund has been established.

Robert W. Potter

HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Robert W. Potter, 67, of 39828 Hogan Road, Guttenberg, rural Holy Cross, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, just as he lived, surrounded by his family, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Bankston, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement's Cemetery , Bankston. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 17, 1935, in Potosi, Wis., son of Clyde A. and Mary L. (Standorf) Potter.

He married Nancy Delaney on Oct. 12, 1957, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; she preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1989. He later married JoAnn Settle on Aug. 21, 1992, in Dubuque.

He received his education in the Wamfley Country school and the Beetown school.

Mr. Potter worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years, retiring on April 30, 1990. He also owned and operated the former Bob's Standard on Dodge, and Bob's Shell on Third and Locust. He farmed in Epworth and Holy Cross. He owned and operated Bob's Sanitation Service. He later started "Bob's Trucking" livestock hauling and also drove a school bus for the Western Dubuque School District. He and JoAnn then started B and J Printing in Holy Cross. He later owned and operated Potter Trucking.

He was a member of St. Clement's Parish, Bankston, its Altar and Rosary Society and the United Automobile Workers Local 94, of Dubuque, where he also served as steward for many years. He also was a former member of the Orioles, of Dubuque.

Bob enjoyed watching the NASCAR and Busch racing events, and enjoyed his many fishing expeditions with his friends and family.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Potter, of Guttenberg; 10 children, Peggy (Joe ) Reiff and Sally Potter, both of Cascade, Pamela Ernzen and Terrance Potter (and special friend, Lisa Demmer), both of Holy Cross, Susanne (John) Cody and David (Jessica) Potter, both of Dubuque, Richard Potter, of Charleston, S.C., Rodney (Sandy) Potter, of South Bend, Ind., Rebecca (Reginald) Bradley, of White's Creek, Tenn., and Kenneth Potter, of Guttenberg; five stepchildren, Tina (Mike) Weber, of Earlville, Chuck Settle, of New Vienna, Jason Settle, of Sherrill, Kevin Settle, of Guttenberg, and Suzan (Donald) Corter, of Tulary, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Catherine Steffen, of New Vienna; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia (Keith) Miles and Wanda Gansemer, both of Cassville, Wis., and Lavetta "Skip" Hixson, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and a constant companion, his dog, "Misty."

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Jean Buss and Lavonne Fortner.

A Robert W. Potter Memorial Fund has been established.

The family of Bob would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Amy; the Holy Cross Ambulance Service; The Finley Hospital Emergency Room Department, Respiratory Department and the entire staff for all the care and compassion and support given to Bob and our family.

Edward L. McCoy

WARREN, Ill. - Edward L. McCoy, 78, of Warren, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Warren United Methodist Church, with the Rev. T.J. Kim officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home, Warren.

Mr. McCoy farmed all his life until retiring in 1979.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1925, in Amboy, son of Ore and Florence (McAuliffe) McCoy. He married Marie Geiger on Feb. 17, 1947, in Mount Carroll.

He was a member of the Warren United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed helping his son-in-law on the farm.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; two daughters, Kathy (Gerald) Mapes, of Stockton, and Janet (Donald) Wenzel, of Galena; and three grandchildren, Todd (Sheridy) Mapes, of Hawaii, and Scott and Matt Wenzel, of Galena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and George.

Raymond A. Roth

Raymond A. Roth, 98, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 295 S. Hill St., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at the care center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nativity Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Roth was a life underwriter, field assistant and district manager with Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, retiring after 61 years of service.

He was born on Sept. 9, 1904, in Dubuque, son of John and Elizabeth (Knopp) Roth. He married Irene Mack on June 22, 1940; she passed away on Jan. 10, 1999.

In 1917, he attended Columbia Academy (now Loras College) and was a member of the Reserved Officer Training Corps.

He was a charter member of the Dubuque Association of Life Underwriters. He was a past member of the Elks, State and National Association of Life Underwriters, Knights of Columbus Council 510, Holy Ghost Catholic Order of Foresters and the Pickwick Club.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Madonna Fitzgibbons; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Sister Hazel Marie Roth, Sister Colette Marie Roth and Muriel Krocheski.

Arnold Deich Sr.

Arnold Deich Sr., 85, of 260 Julien Dubuque Drive, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery . Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave.

Mr. Deich worked as a tool and die maker at the Adams Co., Felix Uelner Tool and Die, then at H&H Tool and Machine in Cedar Falls, from where he retired.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1917, in Dubuque, son of William and Anna (Wagner) Deich. He married Lois Hunt on Oct. 24, 1939, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1937.

Surviving are his wife, Lois, of Dubuque; a son, Arnold (Cecelia) Deich Jr., of Waterloo, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Arnold Deich III, and Tory, Mike and Scott Brady.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Brady; and two brothers, Don and William.
