Dolores Brom

Funeral services for Dolores M. Brom of Calmar were held on Thursday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar.

Rev. Donald Hawes officiated. Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery . French Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Dolores, 76, died Monday, February 5, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI from an apparent heart attack.

Survivors include one daughter: Sue Myhre of Winona, MN; one son: Thomas of Madison, WI; and one brother: Robert Balik of Spillville.

Clarence Herold

Funeral services for Clarence "Winker" Herold were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen, TX.

The Rev. Charles Davis officiated. Interment was in Killeen City Cemetery . Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Clarence, 90, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at a Temple hospital.

Clarence Herold was born August 26, 1910 in Lisbon, ND.

Before Herold retired from the U.S. Army in Ocober 1964, he had served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His military awards included the National Defense Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with the bronze clasp and five loops, the Army Occupation Medal-Germany, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a bronze star, the American Defense Service Ribbon and the Carbine Marksmanship Badge.

Herold had also retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of Council 4724 of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Alice (Joerger) Herold; two sons: Dennis, Douglas of Austin, TX; one daughter: Barbara Muerer of Katy; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and a sister: Viola Benda of Kansas City, MO.

Clarence was preceded in death by an infant son: Gordon; and one sister: Irene Herold.

Don Chyle

Funeral services for Don Chyle of Cresco were held on Tuesday, March 12 at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin with Rev. John Moser officiating.

Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Protivin. Pallbearers were: Edmund Samec, Jim Harms, Gary Swestka, Bob Stika, Doug Pecinovsky, and Tom Lentz. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Don, 79, died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.

Don Chyle was born November 19, 1922 in Howard County, between Cresco and Protivin, the son of Wenceslaus and Clara (Komarek) Chyle. He attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and Rudolphinium High School. Following his education, he stayed on the farm helping his parents.

On June 14, 1948 he married Arlene Sobolik in the Holy Trinity Church in Protivin.He lived on the family Century Farm and dairy farmed.

He received the Distinguished Family Dairy Award for Howard County in 1998. He was a long time Farm Bureau member, and served on the Howard County Extensin Board for many years. He was a member of the Protivin Council of the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed fishing and doing custom windrowing for people. Because of health reasons, his last three years were spent doing reading and driving short distances.

He is survived by his wife Arlene; one son: Mark of Cresco; and one sister: Evelyn Steffen of Cresco.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Herman Anderson

Funeral services for Herman Anderson of rural Calmar were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway with Rev. Philip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson officiating.

Interment was in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery , rural Ridgeway. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Herman, 70, died Sunday, April 28, 2002 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI following a lengthy illness.

Herman Ardein Anderson was born August 14, 1931, the son of Gilbert and Luella (Justaad) Anderson. He was baptized September 13, 1931 in the Hauge Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Decorah Lutheran Church. He was educated in the rural school near his home. He served in the US Army from November of 1955 until August of 1957 at Ft. Sill, OK.

On July 15, 1957 he married Lois Russell Albertson at Wichita Falls, TX. After his discharge, they farmed near Spillville.

Herman enjoyed farming and making and fixing the things on the farm. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing all sorts of games with his family.

He is survived by his wife Lois of rural Calmar; two daughters: Candi Nelson of Calmar and Tresha Kuennen of Calmar; one step son: Tyrome Albertson of Cresco; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gordon of Decorah and Donald of Cedar Rapids; and six sisters: Clara Williams of Decorah, Almeda Grindeland of Seattle, WA, Pauline Keune of Ft. Atkinson, Beverly Steen of Waterloo, Frances Frana of Decorah, and Katherine Holten of Cedar Rapids.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Irene Groth and Loretta Phillips.

Arnott Argall

Funeral services for Arnott "Arnie" Argall of Lawler will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Rev. David Bergstrom officiating.

Interment will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Pallbearers are: Ken Benning, Joe Scally, Bob Cuvelier, Virgil Mashek, Mark Timlin, and Don Benz. Hugeback Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Arnott, 89, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes.

Arnott F. Argall was born May 28, 1913 in Lawler, the only son of Fred G. and Elizabeth (Benz) Argall. He lived most of his life in the house where he was born in Lawler. He graduated from Lawler High School in 1931 and later attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. He served in W.W. II from 1942-1945, with the U.S. Army, 80th Quartermasters Depot Supply Company in Iceland and France.

In December, 1947 he married Gladys Haug of Spillville in Cedar Falls. Arnott was employed with the State Bank of Lawler for 37 years until retiring in 1978. He was a 50 year member of the Harold Redman American Legion Post #279 of Lawler.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, wintering in Texas, and working with wood.

He is survived by his wife Gladys; and one daughter: Annette Argall of Austin, TX.

Arnott was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Amy Argall and Edith Pollath.

Virginia Broughton

Funeral services for Virginia Broughton of West Union were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 27 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union with Rev. Galen Smith officiating.

Interment was in Wadena Cemetery in Wadena. Schluter Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel handled the arrangements.

Virginia, 90, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union following a short illness.

Virginia Marie Broughton was born January 13, 1913 in Shelby county, the daughter of Peter and Lona (Jensen) Madson. She taught school in Shelby County and Wadena.

On May 29, 1939 she married Bill Broughton in Papillion, NE. She helped her husband at Bills Sport Shop in West Union for several years.

She is survived by three sons: Charles of Calmar, Don of Battle Mountain, NV and David, also of Battle Mountain, NV; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marjorie Custer of Harlan and Janette Dunn of Englewood, CO; and one brother: Phillip of Harlan.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1999; her parents; and one brother: Paul in infancy.

Nicole Rosendahl

Funeral services for Nicole Rosendahl will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 7 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating.

Pallbearers are: Jim, Tom, and Jeff Felten, Allen Servias, Aaron Folsom, and Kenneth Beardmore. Martin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Nicole, 30, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at her home in Cresco.

Nicole Mary Rosendahl was born July 24, 1972 in Albequerque, NM, the daughter of Greg and Diane (Felten) Rosendahl. She was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caledonia and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. She attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1990.

She married Chad Kleve at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon in 1992 and moved to Glendale, AZ. Following her divorce, she moved to Galveston, TX where she worked at University Hospitals. She later moved to Calmar, where she graduated from NICC with a registered nurses degree in 2001. Nicole lived in New Hampton for a time while she worked at Allen Hospital in Waterloo and for the past year has lived in Cresco and worked at Olmsted County Medical Center in Rochester, MN.

She is survived by two daughters: Ashley Rosendahl of Cresco and Taylor Kleve of Charles City; one son: Nathan Kleve of Charles City; her mother: Diane Rosendahl of Caledonia, MN; her father: Greg Rosendahl of Waukon; her step mother: Shirleen Ropsendahl of Waukon; and her step father Richard Bullock of Caledonia, MN; two sisters: Aimee and Jeannie Rosendahl, both of Texas City, TX; two brothers: James Rosendahl of LaMarque, TX and Conrad Rosendal of Waukon; one step sister: Dawn Burr of Lone Tree; one step brother: Shawn Moe of Waukon; and maternal grandparents: Leo and Gloria Felten of Caledonia.

Nicole was preceded in death by one step brother: Richie Bullock; and paternal grandparents: Eddie and Mary Rosendahl.

Donald Stoskopf

Funeral services for Donald Stoskopf of Decorah were held Tuesday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah.

Rev. David Andreae officiated. Interment was in Locust Cemetery . French and Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Donald, 75, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah following a long illness.

Survivors include two sons: David of Decorah and Mark of Wilton; and two daughters: Paula Stoskopf and Karen Stoskopf both of Decorah.

Mildred Elliott

Funeral services for Mildred Elliott of Fredericksburg will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1 at the Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church in Fredericksburg with Pastor Fred V. Austin officiating.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31 at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, and an hour prior to the services at the church.

Mildred, 91, died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at her home of cancer.

Mildred Louise Elliott was born June 9, 1911 in Portis, Smith County, KS, the daughter of Rev. James E. and Alta (Ransom) Small. She graduated from Greene Iowa High School in 1930. She worked as a telephone operator in Greene.

On October 30, 1937 she married Glen Robert Elliott. They farmed north of Fredericksburg until 1974.

Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and trying new recipes.

She is survived by four sons: Robert of Sumner, Larry of Mt. Morris, IL, Terry of Fredericksburg, and Thomas of Valparaiso, IN; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister: June Nelson of North Manchester, IN; and one brother: Rufus of Lake Placid, FL.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Glen in July 2002; her parents; three sisters: Alyce Miller Renner, Zella Small, and Lena Small; and two brothers: Francis and Asher.
