John Wilken
Funeral services for John Wilken were held on Friday, April 25 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco.
Interment was in St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery
in Granger, MN. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
John, 80, died Saturday, April 19, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers, AR.
John Jacob Wilken was born July 13, 1922 at Lime Springs, the son of Chris and Rose (Bronner) Wilken. He attended the Greenleafton School and graduated from the Dunwoody Institute. John entered the Army during WWII and served in the 82nd airborne division at Ft. Bragg and Ft. Benning. He also served during the Korean Conflict.
On May 27, 1949 he married Rosemary McClellan at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They lived in Cresco and John was a partner in Cresco Masonry with Warren Lewis for 30 years. He served as a Cresco City Councilman during his years in business. He retired in 1984. They continued to live in Cresco until 1990 when they moved to Bella Vista, AR.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Bella Vista; four sons: Douglas of Newton, Bruce and Scott, both of Cresco, and Jeff of Bella Vista; two grandchildren; and two sisters: Lillian Griswold of Boulder, CO and Geneva Arneson of Harmony, MN.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
William Samec
Funeral services for William Samec were held on Friday, March 15 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery
in Cresco. Honorary pallbearers were: Adam Samec, John Rasmusson, Gary Lienhard, Marty Hudecek, Lori Martinek, Janelle Mahr, and Ron Milota. Pall bearers were: Chris Samec, Chad Samec, Brian Fogarty, Danny Polashek, Edmund Samec, Gene Pecinovsky, and Richard Samec. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
William, 86, died Monday, March 11, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco where he has resided since February 12, 2002.
William Clarence Samec was born June 20, 1915 southwest of Cresco in Howard County, the son of Frank and Barbara (Hron) Samec. He attended the rural school and helped out on the farms in the neighborhood.
On May 16, 1939 he married Anna M. Havel at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin by Rev. Vaclav Hradecky. He worked on the farm until 1966 when he went to work for Huntting Elevator. He retired in 1980.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Anna; four children: Norma Fogarty of Loxahatchee, FL, Kathy Polashek of Cresco, Adrian of Cresco, and Dennis of Lime Springs; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by one grandson; his parents; three brothers: Frank, Joseph, and James; and one sister: Mary Shock.
Adam Samec
Funeral services for Adam Samec were held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco.
The Rev. Henry W. Charipar and Rev. Michael Fitzgerald officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery
in Cresco. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Adam, 20, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at his home.
Adam Jon Samec was born December 8, 1980 in Cresco, the son of Adam and Vicky (Franks) Samec. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at the same church in which he remained a member and was employed during the last five years. Adam attended Crestwood Elementary and graducated with honors from Crestwood High School in May of 1999. During this time he developed his talent for art and writing. He loved to write, especially music. He taught himself how to play the guitar and his dream was to write songs. He liked to draw and was an artist in the true sense of the word.
Survivors include his father: Adrian of Cresco; his mother and stepfather: Vicky and Tony Reicks of Ridgeway; one brother: Chris of Cresco; a half sister: Jessica Reicks of Ridgeway; his grandparents: Richard and Yvonne Franks of Cresco, JoAnn and Jim Hale of Sacramento, CA, and Bill and Anna Samec of Cresco.
Frank Jackson
Funeral services for Frank Jackson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco.
Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Frank, 78, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.
Cletus Huegel
Funeral services for Cletus Huegel were held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8 at the St. Joseph's Worship Center in Cresco.
Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiated. Interment was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery
at Lourdes. Pallbearers were grandsons: Ken Trytek, Robert Trytek, Jason and Brian Wagner, and Jeff and Joshua Irvin. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Cletus, 88, died Monday, February 5, 2001 at his home in Cresco.
Cletus Henry Huegel was born April 29, 1912 at Alta Vista, the son of Ed and Anna (Heying) Huegel. He attended the parochial school in Alta Vista and helped his parents on the farm.
On April 11, 1939 he married Helen Shatek at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes. They settled on farms in the Elma-Riceville area and attended church in Elma and Riceville and in 1975 they moved to Cresco.
Cletus was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He loved watching football and playing cards. He enjoyed the company of his dog "Sparky" who went everywhere with him in the pickup.
Survivors include his wife Helen; four daughters: Beverly Trytek of LaGrange, IL, Nancy Irvin of Dubuque, Connie Sindelar of Cresco, and Joyce Wagner of Council Bluffs; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Cletus was preceded in death by two grandchildren, and his parents.
Andrew Kruse
Funeral services for Andrew B. Kruse of Decorah, formerly of St. Lucas, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah.
The Rev. Gary Krapfl will officiate.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 26 at the French and Balik Funeral Home from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and also at the church on Friday after 9:30 a.m. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
Andrew, 88, died Monday, April 23, 2001 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah following a short illness.
Survivors include his wife Bernadette of Decorah and one daughter: Elaine Hageman of Des Moines.
Velma Nolan
Funeral services for Velma Nolan were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the Assumption Worship Center, with interment in Calvary Cemetery , both at Cresco.
Rev. Tom Loomis officiated. Honorary pallbearers were: Gerald Haskovec and Loren Applen. Pall bearers were: Jim Hedeen, Mel Haskovec, Robert Roman and Mike Petermeier.
Velma, 78, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center in Preston, MN where she had been living since November 17, 2000.
Velma Geraldine Nolan was born February 21, 1923 in Howard County, near Maple Leaf, the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Knippling) Roman. She attended the rural school near her home and helped with the everyday farm duties.
On November 16, 1953 she married Harry Joseph Nolan at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco by the Rev. T.J. Carpender. They made their home at Granger, MN.
Velma liked to garden when she was younger, liked to bake and can produce from the garden. In later years, she enjoyed crafts and liked to go to flea markets. She collected stamps and many other items.
She belonged to the Notre Dame Circles of Faith of the Assumption Worship Center, and belonged to a Tuesday Coffee club.
She is survived by her husband, Harry in the Good Samaritan Center in Preson, MN; her children: Patricia Nolan of San Diego, CA, Joanne Petermeier of Woodbury, MN, Gary of Harmony, MN and Larry also of Harmony; seven grandchildren; one sister: Merle Hedeen of St. Peter, MN; and one brother: Bernard of Cresco.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister: Alice Haskovec.
Donald Stoskopf
Funeral services for Donald Stoskopf of Decorah were held Tuesday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah.
Rev. David Andreae officiated. Interment was in Locust Cemetery . French and Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Donald, 75, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah following a long illness.
Survivors include two sons: David of Decorah and Mark of Wilton; and two daughters: Paula Stoskopf and Karen Stoskopf both of Decorah.
Rose Rosendahl
Funeral services for Rose Rosendahl were held Monday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway.
Revs. Phillip and Ginny Olson officiated. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery . Pall bearers were: Knut Brown, Dustin Rosendahl, Jacob Bolson, Alex Bolson, Caleb Rosendahl, Emily Lynch, Abby Lynch, Andrew Brown, and Molly Lynch. French & Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Rose, 89, died Wednesday, September 6, 2000 at the White Violet Adult Care Home in Phoenix, AZ.
Rose Rosendahl was born January 10, 1911 near Ossian, the daughter of William and Catherine (Busch) Tieskotter. She was baptized at DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian and was confirmed at the Orleans Lutheran Church on May 28, 1950.
On August 29, 1928 she married Olger Rosendahl at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah. They farmed in the Decorah area for about ten years before moving to a farm near Ridgeway. In the fall of 1973, they retired to their new home in Decorah. In the fall of 1980, they moved to Youngtown, AZ.
Survivors include two sons: Lyle of Ridgeway and Dennis of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister: Viola Palmer of Decorah.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Olger; one son: Gordon in 1984; one granddaughter; her parents; one sister: Hilda; and two brothers: Ed and Ervin.
