SAVAGE, Minn. - Kiehn, Michael E. age 54 of Savage, passed away on June 10, 2002. Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel, 9947 Lyndale Avenue S. Visitation one hour prior to service. Private interment.

Preceded in death by father, Emmet and uncle, Russ. Survived by loving wife of 30 years, Leata; Daughters, Michelle (William) Desmond and Amanda (Dan) Shinn; Grandchildren, Elisabeth, Jeremiah, Brittani and Tanner; siblings, Julaine Kiehn, Greg (Tammy) Kiehn, Sue (Paul) Jacobson, Teri (Scott) Weinberg; nieces and nephews Sarah Kiehn, Sheena Weinberg, Matt Kiehn, Kendalle Weinberg and many loving relatives and friends.

Thomas Edw Batty

Thomas Edw Batty, 95, a resident of Simpson Memorial Home, West

Liberty, formerly of Rockford, died Monday, July 29, 2002, following a short illness. Graveside services will be held at a later date. The body was cremated. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Edw Batty was born July 10, 1907, in Gross, Neb. He married Frances Munshower on June 17, 1937, in Rockford. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa in 1933 and served with the Army in World War II in the South Pacific. He was in banking for 42 years and served as president of First State Bank in Rockford until his retirement in 1975 after which he was chairman of the grounds committee at Rockford Golf Course until 1990.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockford where he served on the church board for many years. He enjoyed golf and was an avid golfer until age 90. He also served as a member and treasurer of the Rockford Telephone Company as well as a school board treasurer for many years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, playing cards (especially Bridge), traveling and bowling.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Frances Batty of Charles City; two sons, John T. of Rockford, and Dennis R. and wife Mari of West Liberty; one brother, Harry Batty of Venice, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Batty and wife Jennifer of Columbus Junction, Jackie Gould and husband Rich of Wheaton, Ill. and Jason R. Batty and wife Amy of Johnston; five great-grandsons including Javin, Jared and Colin Batty of Columbus Junction, and Aidan and Damien Gould of Wheaton, Ill.; two great-granddaughters, Skylar and Brooke Batty of Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents H.C. and Stella Batty.

Mildred Carder

CEDAR RAPIDS - Mildred Carder, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are pending at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.

Donna Cook

ALAMO, TEXAS - Donna Marie (Earle) Cook died at her home in Alamo, Texas on Jan. 4, 2003. Funeral services were held January 9, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Weslaco,Texas.

Donna was born on March 6, 1933, in Jackson, Minn., and lived in many other states and countries. She vacationed in even more, as traveling was one of her greatest enjoyments.

She had a love for nature, especially her flowers and birds. Donna had a zest for life. She listened to all types of music and it was not uncommon to find her dancing, even on roller skates.

She was always willing and wanting to learn so she became a brown belt in judo and graduated from college, on the deans list, as a pharmacy technician.

Donna relaxed by sewing, stain glassing, gardening, and many other hobbies.

May her dedication to her belief that one day she would rest in the arms of our Lord bring comfort to all.

Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Katie; father, Ellis; step-father, Harold and son, David.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; sister, Jean; brother, Bob; daughters, Margene, Karen, Lorry; son, Chris; step-children, Lori, Ginny, Sandy; grandchildren, Jill, Jeromy, Paul, Sudipta, Chaselyn; step-grandchildren, Beau, BJ, Blake, Megan, Austin, Alex, Hannah, Chelsea, Joshua; greatgrandchildren, Sierrah, Gavyn, Hailey, Drake, Douglas; her cat, Trouble; and her best friends Dennis and Rita.

Donna is also survived by her sister-in-law Gladys and Wayne Feldman of Greene; and her brothers-in-law Robert and Karen Cook, and Louis (and the late Ruth) Koenigsfeld, all of Charles City.

Jerome (Jerry) Bullen

NASHUA - Jerome (Jerry) Bullen, age 66 of Nashua, died today, Monday, March 10, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Services are pending with Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua.

Roberta Brewer

DES MOINES - Roberta J. Brewer, 84, of Des Moines, formerly of Tripoli, died June 14, 2001, at Heather Manor in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, at Rettig Funeral Chapel in Tripoli. Burial was in the Fremont Cemetery , rural Tripoli.

Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli is in charge of the arrangements.

Lidija Jakobson

NASHUA - Lidija Jakobson, 81, of Nashua, died Saturday evening, June 16, 2001, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery , also in Nashua.

Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home in Nashua is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles L. "Charlie" Ball

IONIA - Charles L. "Charlie" Ball, 67, of Ionia, died Wednesday, April 4, at his home of natural causes.

According to his wishes, there will be no funeral services or visitation.

Inurnment will be at a latter date in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

A memorial lunch for family and friends will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 10, at the VFW Hall in Charles City.

Elvera Henning

WATERLOO - Elvera Emma (Griner) Henning, 83, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at the Country View Care Facility, Waterloo.

A funeral service will be held beginning at 1:30 p.m. today at Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville. Interment will be in Lynwood Cemetery , Clarksville.

Eugene Boge

Eugene Boge, 81, a resident of 2872 130th St., Charles City, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for "Gene" Boge will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Stanley J. Hayek, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Beckwith Cemetery , rural Colwell.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday where there will be a Parish Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a recitation of the Rosary. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Eugene Martin Boge was born Sept. 17, 1920, at Bankston, the son of Bernard and Gertrude (Gerkin) Boge. He received his education in country schools of North Buena Vista. He served in WWII in the Army in the S. Pacific, in particular in New Guinea where he was wounded and left for dead. On Sept. 2, 1947, he and Eva Huckle were married at Le Mars. They moved to their farm north of Charles City in 1949. During the "50s he operated a sawmill; he operated Boge's Tap and Grill in Colwell in the early "70s; and Boge's Lawn and Leisure in the "80s. During the "70s and "80s he and Eva spent winters in the Brownsville, Texas, area. He loved to cook.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Living family members include his wife, Eva of Charles City; three sons: Kenneth Sr. and Pam Boge of Orchard, Gordon "George" and Janet Boge of Charles City and Roger and Teresa Boge of Klemme; three daughters: Linda and Bob Dodd of Klemme, Teresa Boge and Jerry Peters of Floyd, and Norma Boge and Eldon Conyers of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law Norma Boge of Sacramento, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barney; seven brothers; a sister; and a great-grandson.

Wilbert "Bill" W. Kuker

Wilbert "Bill" W. Kuker, 73, of Sumner, formerly of Readlyn, died on Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn with Pastor Maury Ellwein officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Readlyn.

Wilbert was born on Aug. 13, 1928, on a farm west of Tripoli, in Bremer County, the son of Carl and Clara (Boeckmann) Kuker. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Morris on May 23, 1954, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. After their marriage, the couple farmed on the land that Wilbert had lived on since he was two-years old. They farmed until Wilbert's retirement in 1993 and they moved to Sumner in 1995.

Wilbert enjoyed farming, dancing, fishing, camping, chuckwagon races, but he especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Marjorie; four sons, Richard Kuker and his wife, Beverly of Sumner, Calvin Kuker and his wife, Jean of Tripoli, Dennis Kuker and his wife, Lynn of Readlyn, Alan Kuker and his special friend, Niona Kennemer of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Linda Davis and her husband, Mark of Charles City; 13 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, one great-grandchild and seven step great grandchildren, two brothers, Ted Kuker of Readlyn, Robert Kuker and his wife, Shirley of Readlyn; two sisters, Gladys Poock of Readlyn and Ruth Stumme and her husband, Emil of Readlyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Joyce in 1963 and a sister, Agnes Wehling.

Mildred Schultz

Mrs. Mildred Schultz, 85, a resident of 507 North Jackson Street, Charles City, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at her home.

Funeral services for Mildred Schultz will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Solomon Odoom, pastor of West St. Charles United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday and at the church an hour prior to the services.

Mildred Lucille Swinton Schultz was born April 24, 1916 in Cannon Falls, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Hattie (Knutson) Swinton. She graduated from the Nashua High School. On November 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Reynold Schultz at Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1956 she received her degree in elementary education from Iowa State Teachers College. Mildred taught school for seven years in Chickasaw County and for twenty-five years at Castle Hill Elementary in Waterloo. She was a member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Book Worms, Floyd County Rock and Gem Club, and the Floyd County Historical Society. Mildred also volunteered, assisting Bev Rasmussen with her class at Washington School. Spending time with her family was very important. Mildred greatly enjoyed working in her yard and reading autobiographies. She was a teacher at heart, inviting school children into her home to view her natural science collections which she had saved from her teaching days.

Living family members include her daughter, Karen Thomas of Charles City; a son, Richard Schultz and wife Autumn of Charles City; three grandchildren, Dara Jaeger and husband Troy, Travis Thomas, and Daniel Schultz; two great grandchildren, Tate and Rhett Jaeger; seven brothers and their wives, Harold and Bernice Swinton of Waterloo, Willard and Lois Swinton of Long Beach, Calif., Donald and Dorothy Swinton and Vernon and Donna Swinton both of Waverly, Herbert and Delores Swinton of Cedar Falls, Morris and Alice Swinton of Dixon, Ill., and Roger and Marlys Swinton of Shell Rock; five sisters, Doris White and husband Clare of Emmetsburg, Helen Asher and husband Harley of Greene, Alfreeda Albaugh and husband Ronald of Springfield, Mo., and Wilma Braend and Lois Brodt both of Waverly; and a sister-in-law, Mary Swinton of Waverly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1992, infant son, Bruce, a brother, Dale Swinton, and a son-in-law, Jack Thomas.
