Ronald J. Stephens, 57 years old of rural Dunkerton, IA, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, IA of cancer.

Martin J. Corkery

Martin “Marty” J. Corkery, age 46, died suddenly from a massive stroke on May 25, 2004, at Barrows Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was born Nov. 10, 1957, to Lawrence and Lois (Niichel) Corkery, in Waterloo, IA.

Marty married the love of his life, Diana Dake, on Sept. 24, 1983. They were blessed with four children: Miranda, 16; Shayla, 14; Landon, 9; and Trevor, 6.

Marty was very devoted to his family; they were most important in his life. He loved activities with his family, including fishing, golfing, riding quads, and camping. Marty was a talented guitarist and singer. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School, and the Prescott Community.

Prior to their move to Arizona in 1987, Marty and Diana owned and operated Corkery Construction in Jesup, Iowa. Following that, Marty became a construction manager for P-n-P Convenience Stores in Muscatine, IA. Upon their move to Prescott, Marty built houses with his uncle, Earl Niichel, and installed cabinets for various shops in the area. Marty and his brother, Tom, started the cabinet shop Euro-Tec, and later purchased Rainbow Countertops. They later separated the two entities, with Marty forming the Top Shop, northern Arizona’s largest counter top business.

Marty is survived by his wife and children; his parents, Lawrence and Judy Corkery; his siblings and their spouses, Pat (Corkery) Marschel, Peg (Corkery) Morton, Mary Corkery, Kim (Bedard) Senn (Jim), Shelly (Bedard) Anderson (Jim), Jim Corkery (Jane), Tony Bedard (Marcia), Brian Bedard (Shari), Mike Corkery (Debbie), Larry Corkery (Lori), Brenda (Bedard) DeVita (Jimmy), Tom Corkery (Marie), Matt Corkery (Kim), Brett Bedard (Kris), Chris Corkery (Sarah).

He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Dake) Peters (Craig), brothers-in-law, Gary Dake (Carol) and Ron Dake; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois (Niichel) Corkery; and two brothers-in-law, Steve Marschel and Gerald Morton; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Prescott, Arizona, on May 29, 2004. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Athanasius Church in Jesup at 11 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2004. Following the service, a luncheon will be served in the school lunchroom. All are welcome to join in this time of remembering Marty.

Diana and family’s address is 1950 Shadow Valley Drive, Prescott, Arizona 86305.

W. Craig Shadlow

W. Craig Shadlow was born June 22, 1932, in Campbell, Nebraska, the son of Clarence W. and Viola Lucille (Goettsch) Shadlow.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Judy A. Walker May 26, 1958, in Spring Valley, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2003.

Craig was a maintenance supervisor at John Deere, retiring in 1992. He died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 71 years.

Survivors include three sons, Jon Shadlow of Winnsboro, South Carolina, Kenneth Shadlow of Waterloo, and Greg (Rose) Shadlow of Parkersburg; three daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Kurt of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin, Amie (Bill) Moore of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Beth (Dan) Farlow of Jesup, Iowa; 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Eileen) Shadlow of Parkersburg; and two sisters, Melba (Helder) Nork of Glendale, California, and Carol Kleespies of Correctionville, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Craig was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Rev. Sarah Darter of the New Hartford United Methodist Church officiated.

Casket bearers were Tony Shadlow, Jeffrey Farlow, Andy Shadlow, David Farlow, Ben Shadlow and Kevin Kurt II. Interment was in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Military Rites were provided by the Cedar Falls Amvets Post #49.

Bradley R. Walsh

JESUP – Bradley R. Walsh, 50 years old of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA, of cancer.

He was born May 20, 1954, at Alta, IA, the son of Noel Leo Walsh and Bonnie Lee (Barr) Walsh. He was graduated from Alta High School with the class of 1973. In 1976, he was united in marriage to Laurel Ann Kestel at Storm Lake, IA. They later divorced. Brad has been a resident of Jesup since 1996 and at the time of his death was employed at Tyson Foods, cooked meats plant in Waterloo, as sanitation superintendent.

Mr. Walsh is survived by two sons, Aaron Walsh and Damion Walsh, both of Jesup; one daughter, Stephanie (Joshua) Crawford of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Isaiah Walsh, Shoni Shelton and Gavin Crawford; also his father, Noel Walsh, of Alta; two brothers, Brian (Phyllis) Walsh and Kevin (Kim) Walsh of Alta; two sisters, Michaelene Pritchard of Storm Lake, and Brenda (Mike) Reinert of Alta. His mother preceded him in death in 1989.
Funeral Services were held, 10:30 AM Saturday, June 5, 2004, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with Pastor Mary Robinson officiating.

Funeral Services were also held at 10:30 AM Monday, June 7, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alta, with Pastor Ted Eilders, officiating, with Randall Ericksen, organist and Justin Walsh, soloist. Casket Bearers were Damion Walsh, Stephanie Crawford, Aaron Walsh, Justin Walsh, Jaydon Reinert and Chris Reinert with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery , Alta, IA.

Virginia Hodges

Jesup – Virginia A. Hodges, 86 years old of Jesup, IA, died Sunday, June 06, 2004, at the Buchanan County Health Center of natural causes (short illness).

She was born July 10, 1917, at Jesup, IA, the daughter of Arthur David Van Eman and Mabel Claire (Zeller) Van Eman. She attended school in Jesup and graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1934. She was a homemaker, but also worked for the Jesup School Superintendent and Iowa Public Service for a short time. On June 18, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Edward Hodges in Jesup, IA. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1980. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jesup, was an active member in church activities and had served as church organist.

Mrs. Hodges is survived by two daughters, Jane (Richard) Hunter of Jesup, and Marian (Michael) Hoffman of Marion; one son, J. Van Hodges of South Holland, IL; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Hodges; one sister, Claire (Pfaltzgraff) Orms; and two brothers, Wilbor Van Eman and George Van Eman, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, with Rev. Richard Jenkins officiating. Music will be by Dawn Quackenbush, organist, with vocalists, Nancy Eckholm, Michael J. Hoffman and Tammy Hoffman. Casket Bearers will be Nile McMartin, Wes Knutson, Joey Van Valkenburg, Eugene Underwood, Walley Searcy, and Doug Gericke. Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery , Jesup.
The casket will be open for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Memorials will be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Jesup.

White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of the arrangements.

Agnes J. Roloff

Independence - Agnes J. Roloff, 92 years old, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Quasqueton, Iowa, died on Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, following a short illness.

She was born on May 10, 1912, in Allison, Iowa, the daughter of Althius and Johanna (Boelman) Reents. She attended school in Allison, Dumont, and Waterloo, Iowa. On July 2, 1932, she and Wilford John Roloff were married in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Roloff was a member of the Quasqueton Union Church in Quasqueton, Iowa.

Mrs. Roloff is survived by one son, LeRoy (Carol) Roloff of Hudson, Iowa; one stepson, John (Betty) Roloff, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one son-in-law, Willis Chesmore of Quasqueton; four grandchildren, Dr. Marshal (Carol) Chesmore of Moline, IL, Deb (Jerry) Holt of Jesup, Beckie (Dewey) Petersen of Ely, and LaVelle (Marvin) Hillman of Winthrop; seven great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandsons; and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Jenny Harvey of Independence, Iowa, and Olive Crandall of San Jacinto, California.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Velda Chesmore; four brothers; one half-brother; one sister; and one half-sister.

Funeral Services were held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Quasqueton Union Church in Quasqueton, Iowa, with Pastor Deborah Mann officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Dan Williams, organist. Burial was at 2 PM on Tues., June 8, at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo, Iowa.

White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. Russell

Betty Jane Russell, 85, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Lincoln, Neb., of natural causes.

She was born July 3, 1918, in Pittsburgh, daughter of Charles and Eva Shearer Samuels. She married the Rev. J. Curtis Russell on May 16, 1942. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Russell was graduated from Peabody High School, Pittsburgh, and worked for the Pittsburgh Board of Education. She also had worked as a legal secretary for several legal firms.

Survivors include a daughter, The Rev. Martha Coltvet of Lincoln, and a former pastor the Barclay Presbyterian Church in Dunkerton; a son, Jim, of Forest City; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Samuels of Madison, Ohio, and Charles Samuels of Pittsburgh; and a sister, Clarion Maloney of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Memorial services were at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home & Cemetery , Cedar Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established and may be directed to the family.

Adrienne Mae Baer Moulds

Adrienne Mae Baer Moulds, 80, of Marion, died at home Tuesday, May 25, 2004, after a long illness. Services were at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery , both in Cedar Rapids.

Memorials may be made to Christ Community Church United Methodist in her name.

Sisters Nancy Eldridge of Dunkerton and Nannette Thies of Denver are local survivors.
