Everett D. Jenson

Everett D. Jenson, 81, of Edmond, Okla., formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, of cancer.

He was born Sept. 25, 1922 in Dunkerton, son of William and Pearl Jenson. He married Lila May Townsend on Dec. 13, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. She died in January 1986. He married Mary Hines on May 2, 1987.

Mr. Jenson was a 1941 graduate of Dunkerton High School. He served in the railroad battalion during World War II, and was employed as a conductor for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 45 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy (James Estle) Mason of Dysart; a son, Dennis of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; two stepsons, Craig Hines of Edmond and Jon (Elizabeth) Hines Jr. of Texas; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Private memorial services were held. His body was donated to science.

Dr. Dale M. Everson

Dr. Dale M. Everson, 72, of Shell Rock, IA died at home Sunday, May 30, 2004.

He was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Boscobel, Wis., son of Henry and Bessie Irene Oleson Everson. He married Beverly Ann Olson on June 13, 1953 in Nashua.

Mr. Everson graduated from Boscobel High School in 1949. He attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, until 1952, when he entered the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He received his bachelor’s degree in medical science in 1953 and his master’s degree in 1956. In 1957, he entered the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon, serving until 1959. He then entered private practice as a physician in Platteville, Wis. In 1961, he moved his practice to Shell Rock and in 1987, became medical director at Lutheran Mutual (now CUNA) Insurance Co., acting in both capacities for some time until his final retirement in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dale R. (Elisa) of Harrogate, England and Ronald J. (Shelly) of Versailles, Ky; two daughters, Lisa K. (Rafael Dubon) Everson of San Francisco and Michelle L. Everson of Everett, Wash.; nine grandchildren and a great-grandson; and two sisters, Joyce (Robert) Lee of Waverly and Carol (Kent) Duit of Madison, Wis.

Services were at Faith Lutheran Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery , both in Shell Rock. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock, was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church Library Fund or to the Shell Rock Community Trust.

Paul Katcher

A Memorial Interment Service for Paul Eugene Katcher, formerly of Jesup, will be held this Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 1 PM at Lynwood Cemetery , Clarksville, Iowa.

Time for reflection will be held at the Amvets Hall in Clarksville following the service.

Paul Eugene Katcher was born March 12, 1937 and died November 5, 2003, in Frankfurt, Kentucky.

A native of Clarksville, he was a retired conductor and brakeman for Illinois Central Railroad, and a former police chief in Jesup, Iowa. He had been working as a security officer with the Facilities Security for Kentucky State Police.

He was the son of the late Paul Marion and Sybil Marie Burke Katcher.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Marie Katcher. Survivors include his wife, Rita Katcher, of Frankfort, KY; two daughters, Angela Kay Douglas, Frankfort, KY and Susan Marie Traffanstedt, Weatherford, TX; a stepdaughter, Jill Marie Seedorff, Aliso Viejo, CA; and a brother, LeRoy Katcher, Charles City, Iowa.

Einar R. Jensen
Jesup - Einar R. Jensen, 89 years old, of rural Jesup, Iowa, died on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Oelwein Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Iowa.

Margaret A. Rowe
Waterloo - Margaret A. Rowe, 57 years old, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Friday, July 23, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, following a short illness.

John Jerome Pitzen
The Rev. John Jerome Pitzen, 85, of Fairfax, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness.

Donna Bjorheim
Donna Bjorheim, 73 years old of rural Independence, IA, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN of respiratory failure.

Barclay W. Mumm
Barclay W. Mumm, 87, of Quasqueton, Iowa died Saturday morning, July 17, 2004 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence of long illness.

Erin M. Henderson
Erin M. Henderson, 22, of Jesup, IA, and formerly of Independence, IA, died Friday morning, July 2, 2004, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, following a sudden illness.

Richard L. McAtee
JESUP - Richard L. McAtee, 59 years old of Plano, TX, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his home following a sudden illness.

Edwin J. Steinbronn
Edwin J. Steinbronn, 75, of Readlyn, IA, died on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

Marcyea W. Bielefeldt
Marcyea W. Bielefeldt, 95, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Martin Center Western Home.

Lyle F. Miller
Lyle F. Miller, 93, of Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004.

Wilma M. Turner

Wilma Marjorie Turner, 86, formerly of Fairbank, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 22, 2004, at the Oelwein Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Medical School.

Memorial services were at 10:30 AM Sept. 25, 2004, at the Fairbank United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Justin Princer officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the Fairbank Public Library.

Bonnie A. Rottinghaus

Bonnie Ann Rottinghaus, 51, of 106 Home Park Blvd., Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of acute leukemia.

Services were at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Garden of Memories.

Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to leukemia research.

Kathryn M. Pint

Jesup - Kathryn M. Pint, 84 years old of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, IA, following a stroke.

Funeral services were 10:30 AM Monday, October 4, 2004, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Fr. Donald R. Bruggeman officiating. Music was by Monica Bengston, organist, and the St. Athanasius Choir. Casket Bearers were Darin Pint, Chris Pint, David Pint, Eric Pint, Dennis Richards and Mike Burke. Burial was at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery , Jesup, IA.

Special services held Sunday, October 3 at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, included a Parish Rosary at 3 PM and Vigil Service at 7 PM.

Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, and to the Oelwein Care Center in Oelwein.

Neva L. Staton

INDEPENDENCE – Neva L. Staton, 93 of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday morning, September 22, 2004, at West Village Care Center in Independence following a long illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Circle Grove Cemetery in Walker.

Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence was in charge of the arrangements.

Marjorie F. “Billie” Miller
Marjorie F. “Billie” Miller, 86 of Dewar, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

Dorothy K. Campbell

Dorothy Kathrena Campbell, 88, of Hazleton, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Grandview Health Care Center, Oelwein, from natural causes.

Services were 11:30 AM Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. An Eastern Star Memorial Service was held Monday at the funeral home, conducted by Order of the Eastern Star Oelwein Chapter No. 45.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Wayne D. “Smitty” Schmidt

Wayne D. “Smitty” Schmidt, 82, of Mason City, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Services were 11 AM Saturday at the First Congregational Church UCC, Mason City, with burial in Alden Township Cemetery , Alden. Visitation was Friday at Fullerton Funeral Home, Mason City, and for an hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church UCC, Mason City, or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Marshall B. Platt

Marshall B. Platt, 82, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., from complications of acute pancreatitis.

Services were held Monday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, with burial in Hudson Cemetery , Hudson.

Memorials may be directed to South Waterloo Church of the Brethren.

Leona Walther

Leona Walther, 79, of rural Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident west of Waverly.

Services were at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Mount Vernon Township, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
