Delores K. Hoskins

Delores K. Hoskins, 64, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday morning, September 21, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa.

Delores was born on October 30, 1946, in Independence, Iowa the daughter of John D. and Alma M. (Andrews) Lawless. She attended the Independence Schools and was married to Melvin A. Lee in 1966. The family lived in Iowa, Idaho, and Illinois where Delores was employed with several small manufacturing companies and as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 14 years in Idaho. Following the death of her husband Melvin in 1986 she returned to the Independence area where on August 6, 1988 she married Robert V. Hoskins in Oelwein, Iowa. The couple made their home near Independence, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband Robert Hoskins, two children; Brenda Schellhorn, Waterloo, IA., and Rick Lee, Independence, IA., two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters; Marilyn Pippenger, Hannibal, MO., Lenore Snell, Waterloo, IA., Pamela Schafer, Independence, IA., and two brothers; John Lawless, Shellsburg, IA., and David Lawless, Independence, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Melvin A. Lee, and a brother William Lawless.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call from 10 A.M. till services Saturday, Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery , Independence, IA.

Patrick L. Moroney

Patrick L. Moroney, 62, of Monti, Iowa died Friday morning, September 9, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Pat was born on May 4, 1949, in Manchester, Iowa the son of Leonard and Matrona E. (Keegan) Moroney. He was a 1967 graduate of the East Buchanan High School, Winthrop, Iowa, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. On November 21, 1970 he married Colleen F. Kelly in Chester, Iowa, and the family made their home near Monti, Iowa. Pat worked as a livestock buyer and owned and operated Pat’s Custom Interiors.

Pat enjoyed his Irish heritage, celebrating Halloween, spending time laughing, joking and playing cards with his friends and family. His love of history and storytelling will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Colleen, four children; Matthew Moroney, Davenport, Iowa, Bridget Moroney, Independence, Iowa, Elizabeth (Chad) Hames, Long Grove, Iowa, and Annie (Greg) Sanderson, Columbus, Ohio, four grandchildren; Kelly Decker, Kyle Decker, Abby Moroney, Michael Hames, three sisters; Carol Ann (Lee) Bossom, Quasqueton, Iowa, Rosemary (Dick) Rummel, Masonville, Iowa, Judy (Jeff) Corkery, Peosta, Iowa and a brother; Terry (Mary) Moroney, Monti, Iowa.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents Leonard & Matrona Moroney.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Monti, Iowa with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Sunday and from 8 A.M. to 10 A.M. Monday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Winthrop, Iowa. A Rosary will be recited at 4 P.M. and a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Melvin C. Fank

Melvin C. Fank, 81, of Winthrop, Iowa died Tuesday morning, August 23, 2011 at his home near Winthrop, Iowa.

Melvin was born on November 29, 1929, in Dyersville, Iowa the son of Charles J. and Evelyn E. (Haas) Fank.
In 1932 he moved with his family to Alden, Iowa and in 1934 to Earlville, Iowa where he attended the Earlville Schools. In 1951 the family moved to the Winthrop area. On February 3, 1953 he entered the U.S. Army serving as a Corporal until his discharge on January 28, 1955 at which time he returned to farm with his parents near Winthrop, Iowa. On September 20, 1956 he married Jean Walderbach at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan, Iowa and the couple farmed near Winthrop, Iowa

He was a lifetime member of the Winthrop American Legion Post, the Independence V.F.W. Post and the 772nd Military Police Battalion Veterans.

He is survived by five children; John (Dixie) Fank, Walker, Iowa, Mary (Louie) Kacere, Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ron (Polly) Fank, Independence, Iowa, Gary (Michele) Fank, Winthrop, Iowa and Dianne (Robert Slocum) Fank, Aurora, Iowa, and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean Fank in 2009, and a brother Reynold Fank in 2008.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday August 26th, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Winthrop, Iowa with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating, with burial in the St. Patrick’s’ Catholic Cemetery . Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Thursday and from 8 A.M. till 10 A.M. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Winthrop, Iowa. A rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. Thursday and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Everett H. Lange

Everett H. Lange, 85, of LaPorte City, Iowa died Wednesday evening, August 10, 2011 at the Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Everett was born on November 13, 1925, near Brandon, Iowa the son of Oscea and Allie (Bunce) Lange. He attended the Brandon Schools. On July 13, 1945 he entered the U.S. Army serving till his discharge on January 2, 1947. On June 30, 1948 he married Geraldine F. Sturm in Brandon, and the couple farmed in the Brandon area.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine F. Lange, a daughter Kaye Bumgardner, LaPorte City, IA., a son Robert Lange, Okeechobee, FL., five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a sister; Darlene Hopkins, LaPorte City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, two brothers; Howard and Ted Lange, and a sister; Viola Smitz.

Private graveside memorial services will be held at a later date. The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory of Independence, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Michael P. Carroll

Michael P. Carroll, 39, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday night, August 7, 2011 at the Buchanan County Health Center Independence, Iowa.

Michael was born on October 10, 1971, in Eldora, Iowa the son of Paul and Michele (Greenwood) Carroll. He attended the St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from Independence High school in 1990. After graduating he attended the University of Northern Iowa, and worked for several years at the Monona Wire Co. in Monona, Iowa.

He is survived by his mother Michele Carroll of Independence, and a sister Maureen (Dave) Swan of Big Lake, MN

He was preceded in death by his father Paul J. Carroll.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. till 12 Noon Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA. where a rosary will be recited at 9 A.M. Saturday. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery , Independence, Iowa.

Leo J. Haas

Leo J. Haas, 62, of Winthrop, Iowa died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his home in Winthrop, Iowa.

Leo was born on July 18, 1949, in Edgewood, IA the son of Leo Henry and Norma Jean (Minkler) Haas. He attended school in Dundee, IA, and worked for many years at Iowa Engineer Processors as a welder in Independence, IA. He enjoyed playing Cribbage, shooting pool, and riding his motorcycle and snowmobile.

He is survived by four sons Rod Haas of Iowa, Chuck Evans of Oelwein, IA, Shane Gerstenberger of Elgin, IA, Kory (Jolene) Haas of Manchester, IA, Rick (Carrie) Haas of Manchester, IA, two daughters Brandi Haas of Maynard, IA, Bryana Haas of Maynard. Six brothers Ronnie Haas of Independence, IA, Terry Haas of Aurora, IA, Jerry Dean Haas of Lamont, IA, Scott Foster of NC, Terrill Adams of Independence, IA, and Dennis Adams of Evansdale, IA, and two sisters Roxane Thorpe of Independence, IA and Cheryl Adams of Oelwein, IA, and many nieces and nephews, and special friend Rosemary Brimmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Timothy Haas

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday July 29, 2011 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Winthrop, IA where friends may call from 10 till services on Friday. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery , Masonville, Iowa.

Nancy L. Yearous

Nancy L. Yearous, 66, of Independence, Iowa, died Thursday evening, July 21st, at her home near Independence, IA.

Nancy was born on August 3, 1944, in Independence, Iowa the daughter of Thomas H. and Fern (Heinz) Price. She received her education in the Independence Community Schools, and was married to Paul E. Yearous of July 7, 1960 in Kahoka, Missouri. The couple made their home near Independence where Nancy worked with her husband in the Yearous Trucking Company doing the bookkeeping and dispatching. Nancy also operated the Nancy Yearous Auto Sales.

She is survived by her husband Paul, five children; Roxie (Don Connolly) Briggmann, Independence, IA., Rex (Laurie) Yearous, Independence, IA., Vanessa (John) Lee, Quasqueton, IA., Annette (Ken Armstrong) Yearous, Independence, IA., and Jason (Melissa Teynor) Yearous, Oelwein, IA., twelve grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren, her mother; Fern Price, Independence, IA., two sisters; Patsy (Harold) Gosse, Rochelle, IL., and Diane Price, Independence, IA., and a brother; Tom (Cheryl) Price, Rowley, IA.

She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Price, and two brothers; Bill and Jimmy Price.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, July 25th, at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be in the Circle Grove Cemetery near Hoover Church, Walker, IA. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday and from 9 A.M. till Services Monday at the funeral home.

John P. Morillo,

John P. Morillo, 63, of Brandon, IA., died Thursday morning, July 21st at his home in Brandon.

John was born on July 8, 1948, in Brandon, Iowa the son of Ethel L. Morillo. He graduated from the LaPorte City High School, LaPorte City, IA., and was married to LuWana Kay Rogers on February 27, 1972 in the Church of Christ United, Waterloo, Iowa. John was employed as a custodian/Maintenance with the Buchanan County Court House in Independence for 19 years prior to his retirement in 2010.

He is survived by his wife LuWana Morillo, Brandon, Iowa three children; Travis (Brenda) Morillo, Lisbon, IA., Trevor (Emmy) Morillo, Independence, IA., and Tandie (Shane) Morillo-Fox, Ft. Hood, TX., and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Morillo.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, July 23rd, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., where friends may call from 11 A.M. till services.

Frederick W. Hahn

Frederick W. Hahn, 95, of Waterloo, Iowa and formerly of the Lamont and Independence, Iowa died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Fred was born on March 23, 1916, in Lamont, Iowa the son of Henry J. and Tillie A. (Busse) Hahn. He was a 1934 graduate of the Lamont High School, Lamont, Iowa. Following his graduation he farmed with his father. He entered the US Army on February 4, 1942 serving during WW II until his discharge on October 20, 1945. He returned to the Independence area and worked as a contractor throughout the Independence and Lamont area until his retirement in 1978.

He is survived by a son Larry Hahn, Waterloo, IA., a daughter Linda Burk, Peoria, AZ., two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Celia in 2003, four brothers; Hurbert, Lawrence, Oscar, and Walter Hahn, and three sisters; Irene Arnold, Doris Pape, and Margaret Mann.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., with burial in the Floral Hills Cemetery Hazelton, IA. Friends may call from 10 A.M. till Services Saturday at the funeral home.

Emily Ann Webster

Emily Ann (Quinn) Webster, 31, of Quasqueton, Iowa died Monday, July 10, 2011 at her home in Quasqueton, Iowa

Emily was born on March 13, 1980, in Independence, Iowa the daughter of William C. and Ann M. (Padget) Quinn. She was a 1998 graduate of the Independence High School and a 2000 graduate of the Hamilton College, Waterloo, Iowa. On April 4, 2009 she married Jason L. Webster in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and the couple made their home in Quasqueton, IA. Emily was employed with BankIowa for ten years prior to becoming employed with WalMart in Independence, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband Jason Webster, Quasqueton, Iowa, two children; Maya Quinn and Colton Webster at home, her parents; William C. and Ann M. Quinn, Independence, IA., a sister; Angela (Scott) Webb, Independence, IA., two brothers; James (Cassandra) Quinn, New York, NY., and Brian (Amanda) Quinn, Quasqueton, IA.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 18th, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery , Independence, IA. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where a parish vigil service will be held at 7 P.M. Sunday.

Jerry W. Wilson

INDEPENDENCE– Jerry W. Wilson, of Ankeny, formally of Independence, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, IA

Jerry was born on December 3, 1944, in Independence, IA; the son of Warren and Clarice “Jeannie” (Christiansen) Wilson. After graduating from Independence High school he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963. He was united in marriage to Sandra Miller on May 4, 1968 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA. He work for many years as a Newspaper pressman until his retirement in 2006

He is survived by Sandra Miller Wilson, son Matthew (Cindy) Wilson of Mandeville, LA; daughter Michelle Wilson of Des Moines, IA; two Grandchildren, Paige and Austin Wilson; a brother David (Dawn) Wilson of Peoria, AZ
Two sisters, Patricia (Jim) Pagel of Wabasha, MN, Pamela (Rick) Culbertson of Des Moines, IA

Funeral services will be held at 1:0 P.M. Sunday July 3, 2011, at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where friends may call from 11:00 A.M till services Sunday.
