Frances L. Anderson
Frances L. Anderson, 93, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday evening, April 2, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Frances was born on October 10, 1917, near Brandon, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Sullivan) Schultz. She graduated from the Brandon High School, and on January 6, 1944 she was married to Donald L. Anderson. The couple made their home in Independence where she and her husband owned and operated the Anderson Plumbing Company.
Frances is survived by five children; Mary (Bob) Black, Morrison, IL., Bill Anderson, Salix, IA, Richard (Sheri) Anderson, , Jim (Linda) Anderson, and Chris (Paula) Anderson all of Independence, IA., 12 grandchildren and 10 great Grandchildren, one sister; Rosemary Kissling, Oregon, Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 1984, one sister; Betty Wilson, and three brothers; Leonard, Wallace, and Robert Schultz.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., with Rev. Bill Black officiating. Burial Mt. Hope Cemetery , Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday and from 8 AM till Services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ann I. Denton
Ann I. Denton, 86, of Brandon, Iowa died Thursday afternoon at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Ann was born on March 2, 1925, near Coggon, Iowa the daughter of Erwin J. and Dorothy (Mills) Buess. She attended the Coggon Schools thru the eleventh grade and graduated from Roosevelt High School, Cedar Rapids in 1943, and became employed with the Linn County Auditor’s Office in Cedar Rapids, IA. On August 10, 1947 she was married to Grover G. Denton in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple made their home in Marion, Iowa prior to moving the Manchester, Iowa in 1960. In 1967 the family moved to Monticello, Iowa living there until moving to Brandon, Iowa in 1972 and founding the Denton Castings Company.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years; Grover “Mike” Denton, three children; Pat (Dave) Heusmann, Mt. Pleasant, IA., Mike (Deb) Denton, Independence, IA., and Tom Denton, Brandon, IA., three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister; Genevieve Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, April 4th at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., where friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday and from 9 AM to services Monday. Interment will be held at a later date in the Brandon Cemetery , Brandon, Iowa
George H. Danehy
INDEPENDENCE– George H. Danehy, 78, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday morning, March 30, 2011 at the Buchanan County Health Center Independence, Iowa.
George was born on May 8, 1932, in Independence, Iowa the son of Fergus and Effie (Kiggins) Danehy. He attended the St. John’s Catholic School, and was united in marriage to Lydia Stelter on December 18, 1965 in Independence, Iowa. George enjoyed being on the Little Leauge football board in Lithia Springs, GA and enjoyed spending time with the players and coaches; also camping and working on stock car engines
He is survived by his wife Lydia, four daughters; Nancy Ann (John) Sligh, Douglasville, GA, JoAnne Marie (George) Mitchell, Waterloo, IA, Laurie June Danehy, Lithia Springs, GA, and Janet Faye Danehy, Independence, IA. Eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, two sisters Dorothy Davis, and Betty Ann Danehy, and a brother William Patrick Danehy
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Judy Ann, Two brothers, Fergus Danehy, and Lewis Frank Danehy, and two sisters Elizabeth Mary Danehy, and Patrica Lucille Jameson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where friends may call from 10 till services Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery , Independence, Iowa.
Wilma J. Priebe
Wilma J. Priebe, 78, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at her home in Independence.
Wilma was born on November 11, 1932, on the Kurt Family Farm near Cascade, Iowa the daughter of George N. and Barbara A. (Weber) Kurt. She was a 1951 graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Cascade, Iowa. On April 23, 1955 she was married to Clifford P. Priebe in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cascade, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Anamosa, Iowa are until moving to a farm near Brandon, Iowa in 1960. Following the death of her husband Clifford she moved into Independence, Iowa in 1995. She was a member of the St. John’s Rosary Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She is survived by her five children; Bonnie O’Brien, and Stan (Jane) Priebe, Independence, IA., Cindy (Dave) Francois, Central City, IA., Celia (Tracy) Shedd, Mingo, IA., and Dale (Rundi) Priebe, Brandon, IA., twenty one grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister; Sr. Lucy Kurt, Dubuque, IA., three brothers; Rev. Alan Kurt, Albuquerque, NM, Ron Kurt, Cascade, IA., and Karl “Butch” Kurt, Monticello, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford in 1992, and two brothers; Ralph and Stephen Kurt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, Mary 30, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, Iowa with Rev. Don Plamondon Officiating. Burial St. John’s Catholic Cemetery , Independence, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Tuesday and from 8 to 10 AM Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 3 PM and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday.
Edna Roe Perry
Edna Roe Perry, 87, of Independence, Iowa, and formerly of San Antonio, Texas, died Tuesday evening, March 22, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, Iowa.
Edna was born on June 27, 1923, in Harriman, Tennessee, to John H. and A. Beatrice (Baumgartner) Roe. She was a graduate of South Harriman High School. She married Roy Whaley in 1945; they later divorced. In 1979, she married Robert Perry; he died in 2009 Edna was employed for many years as an Administrative Assistant with the U.S. Government at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. She retired in 1983.
She is survived by a daughter; Barbara (Daryl) Roberts, Independence, Iowa; three stepsons; R. Jack Perry, Gulfport, Mississippi, Claud Perry, Beaumont, Texas, and Henry (Melinda) Perry, Longmont, Colorado; two grandsons; Andrew and Peter Roberts, Cedar Falls, Iowa; seven step-grandchildren, Todd Perry, San Diego, California, Amy Verrett, Humble, Texas; Robert (Jennifer) Perry, Florence, New Jersey; Natalie Perry, Gulfport, Mississippi; Scott , Gregory, and Jennifer Perry, Longmont, Colorado; and four step-great-grandchildren, Lauren Perry, Kingswood, Texas; Emma Verrett, Humble, Texas; and Ryan and Molly Perry, Florence, New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Patsy Roe, Hixson, Tennessee, many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Linda (Carell) Freeman, Humble, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Perry, ; a daughter; Carol Anne Whaley, a stepson; Lee (Fran) Perry, a sister Ruby Roe, and a brother Harold Roe.
A memorial service will be held at Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, Texas, on May 7, 2011.
Everette W. Stainbrook
Everette W. Stainbrook, 85, of Independence, Iowa and formerly of Brandon, Iowa died Tuesday morning, March 22, 2011 at his home in Independence, IA.
Everette was born on April 7, 1925, near Brandon, Iowa the son of Ward A. and Edith M. (Nabholz) Stainbrook. He was a 1944 graduate of the Brandon High School, and on September 30, 1945 he was married to Nerme Mae Wright in Brandon, Iowa. Everette farmed the Stainbrook faming farm near Brandon and was employed as a truck driver with Zypher Trucking, before starting the Stainbrook Trucking Company, and later for Elliott Trucking prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Nerme M. Stainbrook, a son; Jim (Ann) Stainbrook, Independence, IA., three grandchildren; Kimberlee Stainbrook, Melissa Arnevik, James Stainbrook, and three great grandchildren; Alaina and Averie Arnevik, and Keira Stainbrook, a sister; Velda Seebach, Dysart, IA. .
He was preceded in death by a sister; Erma Walllace, and a brother; Hubert Stainbrook.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., with Rev. John Sheda officiating. Burial will be in the Brandon Cemetery , Brandon, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, and from 8 Am till services Friday at the funeral home.
Carl G. Hosch
Carl G. Hosch, 95, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday evening, March 19, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Carl was born on July 29, 1915, in O’Neil, Nebraska the son of Nicholas and Catherine (Rogers) Hosch. He attended the Randolph Schools, Randolph, NE., and moved with his family to Iowa. On March 26, 1940 he was married to Pauline S. Zieser in St. Mary’s Spencer’s Grove Catholic Church near Walker, Iowa and the couple farmed in southern Buchanan County until his retirement in 1992 and moving into Independence, IA. Even though retired Carl still enjoyed going and helping his sons farm.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years; Pauline, nine children; Gary (Dorothy) Hosch, Swisher, IA., Joan (Edward) Jamason, Cedar Rapids, IA., Dean (Beth) Hosch, Tega Cay, SC., Lyle (Margaret) Hosch, Marvin (Marcella) Hosch both of Independence, IA., James (Nancy) Hosch, Evansdale, IA., Daniel (Debbie) Hosch, Independence, IA., Wayne (Linda) Hosch, Walker, IA., Michael (Carolyn) Hosch, Rowley, IA., 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two sisters; Rita Wilgenbush, Monticello, IA., Florence Kelchen, Manchester, IA., a brother; Leonard (Delores) Hosch, Monticello, IA., and a close family friend; Ellen Toomey, Cedar Rapids, IA.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Judy Hosch in infancy, a three sisters; Deloris White, Hilda Leytem, Irene Kremer, and five brothers; Ray, Herbert, Clarence, Fred, and Herman Hosch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 24, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery , Spencer’s Grove near Walker, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 P.M. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 AM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. and a parish vigil service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday.
Margaret M. “Marge” Martinson
Margaret M. “Marge” Martinson, 84, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday morning, March 19, 2011 at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, Iowa.
Marge was born on September 16, 1926, near Rolfe, Iowa the daughter of Francis M. and Henrietta M. (Schinzel) Field. She was a 1944 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Des Moines, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA., and Drake University in Des Moines, IA. On February 25, 1950 she was married to Kenneth W. Martinson in Des Moines, IA. In 1950 the couple moved to Independence, Iowa and she became employed as a secretary at Peoples Memorial Hospital, and later as a legal secretary for her husband in the Martinson Law Firm until his death in 1994.
She is survived by her three children; Daniel Martinson, Tina Martinson of Independence and Gary (Janet) Martinson, La Porte City, IA., four grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, and a step-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, and a daughter-in-law Valerie Martinson, and a sister Eleanor Nichols.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday March 22, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence where friends may call from 10 AM till services. Inurnment will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery , Independence, IA.
Joyce M. Becker
There’s a couple dancing in heaven tonight, Joyce M. Becker, 90, of Independence, Iowa died peacefully Friday morning; March 18, 2011 at her home in Independence, Iowa. Her husband Jim was waiting for her at the gates of heaven.
Joyce was born on September 7, 1920, in Monticello, Iowa the daughter of Herman H. and Elsie A. (Siebels) Seehusen. She was a 1937 graduate of the Wyoming High School, Wyoming, IA., and was employed as a nurse aid at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, and later as a receptionist in a medical office. On February 9, 1942 she was united in marriage to James A. Becker in Monticello, Iowa. The family made their home in Independence, Iowa where they raised their four children. Joyce later worked in the lab at Corn Blossom’s in Independence for seven years.
Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her four children; Steven A. (Debra) Becker, Platteville, WI., Alana (Bob) Neuwoehner, Dubuque, IA., Greg (Sue) Becker, Council Bluffs. IA., Thomas M. (Sue) Becker, Bellevue, IA., ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchild, and three great-great grandchildren. .
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James in 2002, a sister Lorraine Nayler, and a brother Richard Seehusen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Christopher C. Rouse
Christopher C. Rouse, 26, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at his home.
Chris was born on May 30, 1984, in Independence, Iowa the son of Carol A. Franz and Tony R. Rouse. He attended the East Buchanan Schools and graduated from the Independence High School in 2002. He was currently attending Kirkwood Community College’s Fire Service Program in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of the Quasqueton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Quasqueton, Iowa.
He is survived by his mother Carol A. Franz and friend Lynn Henkle, Independence, IA., his father Tony (Dawn) Rouse, Independence, Iowa his paternal grandparents Russell & Marilyn Rouse, Independence, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; William & Elizabeth Franz.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday March 21, 2011 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Richard “Dick” Blount
Richard “Dick” Blount, 61, of Independence, Iowa died Friday morning, March 11, 2011 at his home in Independence with his family at his side.
Dick was born on April 30, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of William E. and Mary L. (Lopota) Blount. He was a 1967 graduate of the Independence High School, and was married to Darlene M. Bagby on October 22, 1971. Richard owned and operated the Blount Excavating in Independence for forty years, and served on the Independence Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Darlene, a daughter Roni (Rick) Hilby, Manchester, Iowa four grandchildren; Joshua, Hailey, Olivia, and Ryan Hilby, His mother; Mary Blount of Independence, IA., two sisters; Kathleen (Ismael) Reyna, Cedar Park, TX., Claudia (John) Beecher, Dubuque, IA., and a brother; Duane (Barbara) Blount, Walker, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father William in 2009.
