Luella M. "Lou" Netty
Luella Mae (Lou) Netty was born May 6, 1934, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford B. and Dora O. (Speicher) Comstock. Lou graduated from East High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to John A. Netty on January 31, 1954 at First Lutheran Church. Luella retired from UNI Credit Union as office manager in 1996. Lou enjoyed riding her bicycle and going on walks with neighbors. She always kept beautiful flower gardens in the summer and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Luella is survived by her husband John; a daughter, Melissa Mendenhall of Cedar Falls; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Lori Netty of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Emily and Tyler Mendenhall of Cedar Falls, Alyson and Brianna Netty of Waterloo; and a sister, Beverly Rathbone of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Mae Comstock, and a stepsister, Delva Moritz. Luella passed away Monday, November 24, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital at the age of 69. She will be greatly missed by all.

Betty L. Young
Betty Louise Young was born June 16, 1927 in Tama, IA the daughter of Gustav and Louise (Graff) Wiese. She attended country school in Tama County through eighth grade and graduated from Tama High School in the class of 1945. On April 5, 1947 she married Eugene Young at the Lutheran Church in Tama. They lived in Traer in the early years of their marriage and in 1956 moved to Hudson. Betty was employed at Land 'O Lakes in Hudson retiring after 20 years in 1993. After Eugene's death in 1973 she continued to live in Hudson where her death came on Monday November 24 at the age of 76 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; sisters Elsie Shearer, Norma Papesh, Helen Young and Hazel Chaloupek; and a granddaughter Angela Miell. Betty is survived by one daughter, Jackie Tomlinson of Fort Dodge; three sons, Michael Young and wife Becky, David Young and wife Suzzie, and Dennis Young and wife Dawn all of Hudson; one sister, Wilma Wilson of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Robert "Bob" Rhoads
Robert 'Bob' William Rhoads was born on November 16, 1917 in Jackson Township near Vinton, Iowa, the son of Willis and Lula (Davidson) Rhoads. He received his education in country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. He farmed for a time with is father before serving his country during World War II. Bob was a bombardier in the European Theater for the United States Army. Upon his discharge, he was united in marriage to Bernice Struve on July 28, 1946 in Mt. Auburn, Iowa. They farmed together in the Vinton, Garrison and Keystone areas. Eventually they moved to farm near La Porte City. After his retirement from farming, Bob worked for Occidental Petroleum in fertilizer sales, traveling and living throughout the Midwest. They retired to live in the Vinton area. Bernice preceded him in death on August 31, 1997. Bob has been a resident at the Vinton Lutheran Home for the past four years and more recently was admitted to Virginia Gay Hospital. His death came there on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the age of 86 years. Bob truly enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Mt. Auburn American Legion, Emil H. Dutler Post #177 and the 40 & 8. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bernice, and two brothers; Alan and Junior. He is survived by a son Rick (Linda) Rhoads of La Porte City, a daughter Jana Rhoads of Waterloo, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a brother Lloyd 'Dusty' (Marilyn) Rhoads of Keystone, and a best friend of 80 years, George McKinley of Cedar Rapids. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Dorothy Hanson
Dorothy May Hanson was born December 7, 1911, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Ray H. and Eva Marie (Anderson) Kloster. Dorothy received her education in Waterloo, graduating from West High School in 1930. She moved to Freeport, Illinois after graduation and on December 17, 1933 she married Harold Maynard Hanson in Freeport. They moved to Waterloo and in 1948 moved to Dysart, Iowa where she helped her husband as the bookkeeper for Hanson Motors until their retirement. Dorothy continued to make her home in Dysart after Harold's death in 1976. Dorothy was admitted to LaPorte City Nursing and Rehab Center in 1998 where her death came on Thursday, November 27, at the age of 91 years. She was a member of Dysart United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir. Dorothy was also active for many years in Women's Club, Garden Club, Order of Eastern Star and Past Matrons for 50 years holding many offices. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold; daughter Barbara Theiss; one granddaughter and three brothers, John, William and Carlton Kloster. Dorothy is survived by two sons, David Hanson and wife Joanne of Dysart, Steven Hanson and wife Mitzi of Cookeville, Tennessee; two daughters, Nancy Thiele and husband Leo of Dysart, Ann Hessenius and husband John of Waterloo; thirteen grandchildren; one step grandchild; twenty six great grandchildren and four great great grandchild; one brother, Richard Kloster of Rutherglen, VA; one sister, Jean Riordan of Dunkerton, Iowa

Loretta Shirley McKelvie
Loretta Shirley McKelvie was born May 2, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa: the daughter of Diamond S. & Mary Elizabeth (Chesnut) Schlette. Following graduation from East High School in 1938, Shirley was employed as a secretary for Michael George Realty Company. She married Richard L. McKelvie September 21, 1950 in Waterloo and later became a homemaker.
At the age of 83 years, Shirley McKelvie died of natural causes Thursday, November 27, 2003 at Friendship Village. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard on April 22, 1997. She is survived by 2 sons-Jeff McKelvie of Waterloo and Kevin McKelvie of Chicago.

Betty J. Flynn
Betty Jean Flynn was born February 25, 1931 at Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and LaVonne DuPre Kasal Sr. Betty received her education in the Toledo public schools. On November 10, 1948 she was united in marriage to Darold E. Flynn at Marshalltown, Iowa. Betty and Darold made their home in Toledo all their married life where she was a bookkeeper for the Garwin Truck Line, Bakery Manager at Gene's Super Value and later Owned and operated the Office Bar and Grill. Following Darold's death on August 25, 2003 she remained in her home in Toledo and more recently became a patient at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, where she died Friday, November 28, 2003 at the age of 72 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darold, sisters, Maxine, Irma and Violet and a brother Charles. She is survived by a son Robert Flynn and wife Lori and a daughter Diana Chamberlin and husband Roger all of Toledo, two brothers Donald Kasal of Tama, Iowa and Roger Kasal of Toledo as well as five grandsons.

Georgiena Schadle
Georgiena Mae Schadle was born April 4, 1926 at Oto, IA, to Perry and Mary (Paisley) Hummel. The family moved to Vinton when she was 12 and she attended country school. Georgiena graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1944 and went on to attend the University of Dubuque. She taught country school in Harrison Township for three years before marrying George Schadle on August 3, 1947 at Pratt Creek Church, rural Vinton. Georgiena and George farmed together in Jackson Township all their married life before she moved to an apartment in Vinton following her husband's death in 1998. Georgiena enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, ceramics, reading and going to movies at the Palace theater in Vinton. She was a member or the Vinton Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon, and she was also involved in Modern Entertainers, Jackson Jolly Timers, Jackson Township Farm Bureau Women, Stitch and Chatter Club, Vinton American Legion Auxiliary, Caring Friends Club, Vinton Women's Club and had served as a 4-H leader. In addition to her husband, Georgiena was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Donna Hummel and one brother, Jerry Hummel. She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Sanders and husband, Dwight, Vinton, IA, and Mary Spratt and husband, Brad, and grandson, Jeremy, Muscatine, IA, grandson Jason Sanders and wife, Angie and great grandson, Gabriel, Vinton, IA, four sisters, Betty Ferguson and husband Raymond, Cedar Rapids, IA, Alice Morrow and husband, Robb, Vinton, IA, Leona Ender and husband, Dick, Vinton, IA, Joan Miller and husband, Joel, Orange Park, FL, two brothers, Kyle Hummel and wife, Shirley, Vinton, IA, and Joe Hummel and wife, Karen, Oakland, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Georgiena was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who was always there to lend a helping hand. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but through her faith in Jesus Christ, she is now rejoicing with the Lord in heaven.

Kenneth Ehrhardt
Kenneth J. Ehrhardt was born April 22, 1926 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of George and Henriette (Stein) Ehrhardt and stepfather Roy Rose. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 and was stationed at Kodiak, Alaska, He was united in marriage to Betty J. Olson on May 23, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He had been employed at the Rath Packing Co. for 16 years and later at the Benson Locker for 30 years retiring in 1991. Kenneth enjoyed bowling, fishing and spoiling his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spent time feeding and watching the birds and animals in his yard. He kept busy doing chores for his beloved wife Betty and they enjoyed playing cards. He dearly loved his family and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Betty of 48 years,2 daughters, Joanne and her husband James D. Amstutz, of Vancouver, Washington, Patricia and her husband Gary E. Tann of Waterloo, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, Kristina K. Amstutz, James J. Amstutz, David S. Amstutz, Tonya J. Tann, Tara N. Tann and Nicholas E. Tann, a brother, Carroll G. Ehrhardt of West Union, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his Parent and stepfather.

Craig Adams
Craig H. Adams was born on August 22, 1954 in California, the son of Darald & Ester (Jensen) Adams. Craig has been a lifelong resident of Waterloo and is a 1963 graduate of West High School. Following his High School he served in the US Navy until 1967. Most of his working career has been with Waterloo Industries. Craig loved to restore vintage automobiles and was a member of many car clubs. Recently Craig was hospitalized at Allen Memorial Hospitals in Waterloo with heart trouble, and it was there that he passed away on Friday, May 31, 2002 at the age of 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sister, her husband and children; Gena, Edward, Drew & Alicia Phillips all of Plano, Texas.

Glen Dickens
Glen R. Dickens was born September 20, 1939 at Davenport, Iowa, the son of Rudolf G. and Grace H. (Gamber) Dickens. Glen received his education in Davenport and graduated from Davenport Central in 1957. He then entered the US Army where he served his discharge in 1968. He was married to Leslie Hazlett and they made their home in Davenport and their marriage later ended in divorced. On September 22, 1984 he was united in marriage to Deanna Ross Burrows and they lived tin Davenport where Glen worked for Red Jacket Pumps. In 1988 they moved to Phoenix where he was employed as a janitor for Trade Printers until his retirement in July of 2001. For the past 3 years Glen has fought a battle with cancer and his death came at his home in Phoenix on Sunday evening, June 2, 2002 at the age of 62 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Deanna, one son and wife, Anthony and Tammi Dickens of Wilton, Iowa, three daughters, Cathy Goodyear and husband Christopher of Normal, Illinois, Sarah Debus and husband Jason of Milan, Illinois and Erin Marietta and husband Ian of Davenport, one step daughter Lisa Petersen and husband Daryl of Las Vegas, Nevada, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Dale Landgrebe
Dale William Landgrebe was born September 6, 1922 at Dysart, IA, the only child of William and Louise Kiekebusch Landgrebe. He was raised near Dysart and attended Homer #3 school and graduated from Dysart High School in 1940. On November 15, 1942, he married Lorraine Kaestner at Van Horne, IA. The couple farmed in the Van Horne area until they moved to Vinton in 1951. Dale worked for Vinton Farmers Supply and later for the City of Vinton before retiring in 1987. A fifty-plus year member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he was an instructor and superintendant in the Sunday School program for more than thirty years. Dale and Lorraine were longtime volunteers for the local HACAP chapter after their retirement. For the past eight months, Dale had been a resident of the Virginia Gay Hospital Annex where his death came peacefully Wednesday morning, June 5, 2002, at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lorraine, Vinton, two daughters, Linda Engelking, Belle Plaine, IA, and Cathy Rogers and husband, Dean, Maquoketa, IA, one son, Keith Landgrebe and wife, Jacqueline, Wauwatosa, WI, five grandchildren, Lori Papesh and husband, Richard, Belle Plaine, IA, Melissa Jastrow and husband, Joe, South Milwaukee, IA, Teresa Vollmers and husband, David, Milwaukee, WI, Travis Rogers and wife, Sheri, Allen, TX, Matthew Rogers and friend, Wendi, Cedar Falls, IA, six great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Lilly Papesh, Emily, Jessica and Mae Jastrow, and Caleb Vollmers. Dale donated his body to the University of Iowa Hospitals for medical research. Louis Adkisson
Louis A. 'Louie' Adkisson was born April 2, 1920 in Fayette County, near Westgate, Iowa the son of Ralph H. and Vella M. (McClain) Adkisson. He was a graduate of East Waterloo High School and later served with the U.S.Army 535th. Ordinance during World War II. He had been employed at the Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works for 42 years, retiring in 1983 as a tool inspector. He was united in marriage to Hilma Pretz April 13, 1957 in Charles City, Iowa. Louie enjoyed reading hockey and wood carving. He really loved his grandchildren. Louie passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Allen Memorial Hospita at the age of 82 after suffering a stroke. Louie is survived by his beloved wife Hilma of 45 years, a son Scott Of Holland, 3 daughters, Lisa and husband Gary Brandau of Waterloo, Lannie Hartema of Garner and Judy and husband Bill Betts of Orlando, Florida, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, LuVerne and wife Genevieve of Denver, Colorado, Glenn and wife Dee of Hyattsville, Maryland, 2 sisters, Margaret and husband Dale Buck of Waterloo,Mary and husband Robert of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Kenneth, Eldon and Forrest. Louie will be greatly missed.

Leona Burkey
Leona Self Burkey was born July 6, 1916 near Vinton, IA to Daniel and Bessie Crosby Self. At the age of four, she and her family moved to a farm near La Plata, MO where she attended country school and graduated from La Plata High School. Leona moved to Vinton and worked at the telephone company until she married Forrest Burkey on October 5, 1938 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, IA. Forrest and Leona farmed near Garrison until their retirement in 1995, when they moved to Vinton. She was a 50 year member of the Presbyterian Church in Vinton. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Leona is survived by her husband, Forrest, of Vinton, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
