Irwin E. Dowd
Irwin Elmer Dowd was born August 1, 1918 at Toledo, Iowa, the son of Charles W. and Ida (Sours) Dowd. Irwin was raised in Toledo and graduated from Toledo High School in 1936. Irwin then farmed the family farm and on June 9, 1946 he was united in marriage to Fern Jolls of Waterloo, Iowa. Irwin and Fern continued to live on the farm until 1967 when they moved to town and he went to work for Iowa River Farm Services Company, retiring in December of 1981. Since May of this year Irwin has been a resident of the Grandview Acres of Toledo where his death came on Wednesday, October 09, 2002 at the age of 84 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1949, a member of the Kiwanis with 24 years as a member of the local Toledo Tama Club, 50 year member of the Toledo Masonic Lodge # 118 AF & AM, and an associate member of the Central Iowa Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William and one sister Catherine Collins. He is survived by his wife Fern, one son Steve Dowd and wife Beth of Coralville, Iowa, one daughter Susan Mohler of Marion, Iowa, four grandchildren Sheri, Phil, Sarah and Jonathan and one great grandchild Haley.

Theodore "Ted" Schmitz
Theodore "Ted" Lawrence Schmitz was born May 18, 1910 at Kranzburg, S.D. to Charles and Mary Michael Schmitz. He was raised in the Urbana/Walker area and attended country school in Urbana and high school in Walker. On November 25, 1937, he married Wilma Ruth Fay at Walker, IA and the couple lived in Urbana all their married life. Ted served his country during WW II in the Navy, aboard the USS Gilmer, stationed in the South Pacific. He worked as a custodian for the Urbana Community Schools for twenty-one years, retiring in 1975. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, the Urbana Lions Club, the Urbana Fire Department, the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post # 264 and the Benton County Association for Retarded Citizens. Ted also served on the Urbana city council and as mayor pro-tem. Ted enjoyed gardening and watching and feeding the birds in his spare time. Following a sudden illness, Ted’s death came Thursday, October 10, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids at the age of 92 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilma, on March 4, 2002, his daughter, Nancy, on May 28, 2001 and two brothers, John and Edward. He is survived by one son, Keith Schmitz and wife, Carole, Walerloo, IA, five daughters, Mary Anne Carmody and husband, Michael, Osage, IA, Judy Dolan and husband, Jim, Santa Ana, CA, Karen Carter and husband, Jerry, Newport Beach, CA, Joan Zieser and husband, Keith, Vinton, IA, Linda Dunham and husband, Terry, Kansas City, MO, four sisters, Frances Weber and husband, Francis “Bud,” Walker, IA, Marie Schmitz and Addie Kress, both of Independence, IA, Eileen Knight, Walker, IA, sister-in-law, Dorothy Schmitz, Vinton, IA, 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gary F. Anderson
Gary Franklin Anderson was born October 18, 1942 at Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Walter and Lucille E.M. (Benesh) Anderson. Gary was raised in Tama and attended the Tama Schools where he graduated in 1960. On February 3, 1962 he was united in marriage to Marlene Campbell in Des Moines. Gary continued schooling at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, now known as UNI, where he graduated in 1964. He then attended the University Of Iowa College Of Law where he graduated with his law degree in 1967. Gary and Marlene made their home in Omaha, Nebraska from 1967 to 1970 where he practiced law. In 1970 they returned to the Tama and Toledo communities where Gary was an attorney and entrepreneur. Gary became ill at his home early Friday morning October 11, 2002 where he died at the age of 59 years. He was a member of the Tama Toledo Lions Club, Tama County I Club and the University of Iowa Alumni Association. Gary enjoyed hunting and working on his farm fixing and mending. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and supported them for many years financially. He also enjoyed spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Gary had a gift for making people feel good and enjoyed giving family and friends nicknames. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Marlene, two sons, Jeffrey Anderson and wife Elizabeth of Durham, North Carolina and Matthew Anderson and wife Michele of Toledo, Iowa, one daughter Amy Foreman and husband Darin of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his six grandchildren, Kyle, Taylen, Spencer, Jacob, Courtney and Will.

Beverly Jane Wilhelm
Beverly Jane Duncalf Wilhelm was born April 1, 1959 at Marengo, IA, to Leo and Blanche Vondracek Duncalf. She was raised in Luzerne and attended school in Belle Plaine, graduating in 1977. On June 1, 1985,she married Mike Wilhelm at St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown. The couple lived in Blairstown and Bev worked at Shaull and Ullerich Chevrolet Company as parts and warranty manager for twenty years. Bev was a longtime member of St. John's Catholic Church where she taught religious education classes for several years. She enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was gardening, boating, camping or snowmobiling. Her greatest pleasure came from watching her daughters grow up, attending their activities and spending time with family. Following a lengthy illness, her death came peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the age of 43 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Leo, and one brother, Roy. She is survived by her mother, Blanche Duncalf, Luzerne, IA, her husband, Mike, and two daughters, Amanda and Laurel, at home in Blairstown, two sisters, Linda Wentzel and husband, Bob, Huntington Beach, CA, Barb Buch and husband, Tom, Belle Plaine, IA, two brothers, Les Duncalf, Luzerne, IA, Michael Duncalf, Belle Plaine, IA, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pat and Charlene Wilhelm, Blairstown, IA, two sisters-in-law, Terri Dvorak and husband, Tim, Indianola, IA, Joni Weekly and husband, Dan, Cedar Rapids, IA, two brothers-in-law, Craig Wilhelm and wife, Allison, Cedar Rapids, IA, Ben Wilhelm and wife, Amy, Indianola, IA, several nieces and nephews and their beloved Luci.

Alvin A. Schmidt
Alvin A. "Al" Schmidt was born December 21, 1911, on a farm near Denver, the son of Charles and Anna Schmidt. The family later moved to Janesville where Al received his education and graduated from the Janesville High School. He later attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Margaret Helen Smith on February 15, 1936 in Waterloo. Al and Margaret owned and operated Varsity Cleaners Inc. and Tuxedo's by Milroy's for 45 years retiring in 1984. Alvin passed away at his home Thursday, November 28, 2002 at the age of 90. Al is survived by his beloved wife Margaret of 65 years, a son Craig of Waterloo, two grandsons, Richard Schmidt of Cedar Falls, and Dennis Schmidt of Waterloo, a granddaughter, Angelina (Schmidt) Amsbarry of Waterloo and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, LaVerna Garner. Al will be greatly missed.

Roger W. Henry
Roger W. Henry was born January 20, 1935 in Waterloo the son of Loren (Bill) and Lelah Bartlett Henry Sr. He was a graduate of West Waterloo High School. He married Margaret Ofstedahl in Waterloo in 1954 and were later divorced. He married Wilma Richmond-Kress August 31, 1969 in Rochester, MN. She preceded him in death October 7, 1999. Roger had been employed at the Rath Packing Company. He passed away Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Allen Memorial Hospital of complications of pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 67. Roger is survived by 2 sons, David Lee Henry and Robert Allen and his wife Wilma Henry all of California. Stepson Dan Kress of Cedar Falls, 4 daughters, Barbara Jean Henry of Kansas City, MO, Kathleen Sue and husband Tom Frederick of Lenexa, KS, Debra Kay Henry of Swea City, Lori Ann and husband Dan Shimp of Shell Rock, 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his father of Waterloo, a brother Loren (Bill) Henry, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, 3 sisters Marge and husband Pat Miller, Marlys and husband Harry Nelsen, Janet and husband Forest Dillavou all of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother in infancy. Roger will be greatly missed.

Rebecca Kueck
Born in Waterloo, Iowa, on August 19, 1947, she passed away in Madison, Wisconsin, on November 29, 2002.
Becky grew up in Iowa and graduated from Hudson High School in 1965. She had lived in South Carolina, Arizona, and Texas, and recently moved to Wisconsin from Hollister, California where she had been an Oral Surgery Assistant and Implant Coordinator.
She will be remembered as an extremely positive person who enjoyed life and always had time to listen to others. Involved in many hobbies, her recent interest in cross-stitch is evident by the many wall hangings, and her scuba diving certification is proof that she was not afraid to conquer what she feared most. She was a giver and not a receiver, a silent doer and not a recognition seeker. She did best what came natural,showing people their importance.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, to whom she was married for 34 years, her mother and father (Mary & Ivan Stansbery), and her sister and brothers (Judy, Gene, Don, Mark, and Tony).
It is requested that all donations to the family be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on December 11th, Wednesday, at the United Methodist Church located at 512 4th Street in Traer, Iowa 50675.

Marie A. Olsen
Marie A. Olsen was born October 20, 1919 in Waterloo the daughter of Otto and Elsbeth (Gumz) Ziemer. She received her education in the Waterloo schools and graduated from West High School. She was united in marriage to Leon K. Olsen January 29, 1938 at the Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Marie was an active member of the Trinity American Lutheran Church Womens Groups. She also enjoyed the circles and quilting as well as her Widows group at church and her bingo Saturday Night at the El Mecca Shrine Club. She and Leon were very proud of their family and they loved you dearly. Marie is survived by 2 sons, Michael Leon and wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Co., Greg L. and wife Susan of Sioux Falls, SD., 4 granddaughters, Kirsten E, Olsen of New York City, NY., Solveig M. Olson of Chicago, IL., Kristin (Olsen) Bensen and husband Bill of Des Moines, Stephanie A. (Olsen) Sannes and husband Bob of Sioux Falls, SD., grandson, Peter N. Olsen of Sioux Falls, SD., a brother Gerald and wife Shirley Ziemer of Waterloo, 3 sisters, Dorothy and husband Eugene Lind of Cedar Falls, Esther and husband Carl Larsen of Oakland, CA., and Lillian Barron of Waterloo, and the beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Beloved husband Leon in 1996, 4 brothers, Al, Arnold, Paul and Kurt Ziemer, and a sister Hilda Ryan. Marie will be greatly missed.

Wayne L. Justice
Wayne Leland Justice was born at Greenup, Illinois on June 2, 1914, the son of Charles and Stella (Legg) Justice. Following his education Wayne entered the U.S. Navy and was serving at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack on Dec. 7, 1941. Following the war Wayne completed his 20 years of service to the Navy and became employed at Argonne National Laboratory. On September 5, 1953 Wayne was united in marriage to Evelyn Christoffer in New Orleans, LA. They lived at West Mont, Illinois where Wayne retired after 20 years with Argonne. In 1984 Wayne and Evelyn moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to be near family. Recently Wayne's health had failed and he was a patient at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids when his death came on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at the age of 88 years. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Evelyn of Cedar Rapids, a brother Dale of Magalia, CA, two sisters, Myrna Reuman of Traer and Marie Finch of Cedar Rapids as well as two nephews and two nieces.

Leone Wheeler
Leone Helen Wheeler was born on March 13, 1907 at Newhall, Iowa, the daughter of Albert “Fish” and Julia (Sevening) Boddicker. She attended parochial school at Norway and graduated from Newhall high school in 1924. Leone continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and then began working at the Newhall State Bank for a time. On December 26, 1928, Leone married Lester Wheeler at St. Patrick’s rectory in Watkins. They made their home farming in the Newhall area all their married life and Leone also worked as a homemaker. Following Lester’s death in 1975, Leone moved to the community of Newhall. Leone has been a resident of the Keystone Care Center since 1992. Her death came there on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at the age of 95 years. Leone was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Newhall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester, 2 grandsons, Joel Green and Stephen Johnson, 3 brothers, Arleigh, Wallace and Harold Boddicker, a sister Maxine Werning and a son-in-law Eldon Green. Leone is survived by a son, Don (Joyce) Wheeler of Watkins, 2 daughters, Mary (Gerald) Johnson of Newhall & Therese Green of Calamus, IA., 21 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Luella Johnson and Geraldine (George) Fahnle, both of Newhall, a sister-in-law Mildred Boddicker of Vinton and a brother in-law Larry Werning of Newhall.
