Barbara J. Overton
Barbara Joy Overton was born September 2, 1944 at Waterloo, Iowa to Milo and Florence (Starck) Paustian. Barbara received her education at North Tama High School at Traer, graduating in the Class of 1962. On April 20, 1963 she was united in marriage to Bruce A. Overton at the Zion Lutheran Church at Dysart. Barbara and Bruce made their home in Traer where Barbara assisted their new marriage by working at Brandt's Food Fare and North Tama Schools while her husband attended college. In addition to raising her two sons, Barbara worked as a teller at the First Community Bank at Traer. She later took a leave of absence to assist her husband in starting their family funeral service. When their nephew, Shawn, joined the funeral home, Barbara returned to her career at the bank. After 1990 Barbara worked part time while she traveled with her husband as they went throughout Iowa and the nation representing funeral service. Barbara served as First Lady to the Iowa Funeral Directors in 1986-87 and to the National Funeral Directors Association in 1995-96. She will be remembered by many for her friendly and graceful manner. In recent years she has enjoyed traveling with her husband and her passions included her grandchildren, Alexander, Tyler, and Claire, her special niece Angie and her family, and her love of nature. Through her insistence hundred of trees were planted on their family farm as a soil and water conservation project, and her yard reflected that love as well. Barbara's earthly life ended Sunday, January 19, 2003 at the age of 58 years, four months and 17 days. She will be missed by her husband Bruce of Traer, her two sons and their wives & families, Blair, Whitney, Alexander & Tyler of Waterloo and Dr. Brent, Rachael, & Claire of Coralville, her mother Florence Paustian of Traer, her sister Mrs. Nancy (Tony) Hardister of Orlando Florida and her brother Steven (Lavonia) Paustian of Waterloo. Barbara was preceded in death by her father and granddaughter Susan Ellie.
To support projects of importance to Barb, the family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Barbara J. Overton Memorial Fund. Messages of condolences can be sent to Overton Family Funeral Home web site, www.overtonservice.com
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wed. Jan. 22, at 10:30 am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart with Burial at the Dysart Cemetery.
Following the Committal Service a luncheon will be held at Zion Lutheran Church.

Regina Beenken
Regina Beenken was born September 29, 1919 in Claremont Minnesota the daughter of Edward and Margaret Foley Duffy. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1938. Regina worked for several years as a telephone operator in Voohries and also at A & L Bakery in Waterloo. On March 25, 1944 she married Donald (Barney) Beenken in Waterloo, Iowa. She and Barney raised six children on their farm in rural Buckingham. Regina and Barney moved to Traer in 1978 and recently they had moved to Mallard Point Retirement Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Regina’s death came on January 25, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital after brief heart complications. Regina was a member of the St. Paul Rosary Society, Legion Auxiliary and the Iowana Club. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ignatious, Ambrose and Gerald. Regina is survived by her husband Donald; two sons, James and his wife Jeanne, David and his wife Karyn all of Buckingham; four daughters, Marguerite Hulme and her husband Allen of Traer, Jean Bellis and husband Robert of Fairbank, Ia, Janet McKenna and husband Kevin of Storm Lake and Mary Coffin and husband Donald of West Des Moines; one sister Winifred Halupnik of Traer; eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Memorial may be directed to the Traer Library Foundation or St. Paul Catholic Church Building Fund.

Jimmie Ray "Jake" McNeal
Jimmie Ray "Jake" McNeal was born May 8, 1947 at ruarl Mt. Auburn, IA, to John and Dorothy Nessler McNeal. He grew up at Mt. Auburn, and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton. Jim served his country from 1966 to 1968 in the Army, stationed in Germany. On September 24, 1966 he married Carol Noeller at the First Christian Church in Vinton. Jake, as he was known by most people, worked in the foundry at the John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo for twenty eight years, retiring in 1994. He also enjoyed working on the farm,driving semis, rebuilding tractors and working on his antique pickup, but his favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vinton and the Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 in Mt. Auburn. Following a sudden illness, his death came Monday, January 27, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo with his family at his side at the age of 55 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, and his father-in-law, Gale Noeller. He is survived by his father, John McNeal, Garrison, IA, his wife of thirty-six years, Carol, Garrison, IA, his son, Jim McNeal and Corrie Engledow, Dysart, IA, his daughter, Cristyne McNeal, and special friend, Bart Kruse, Vinton, IA, grandchildren, Cole, Cylie and Carlie McNeal, three sisters, Patty Fox, Ft. Myers, FL, Sandra Carlson and husband, Les, Ozark, MO, Connie Millard and husband, Gary, Vinton, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma Moore
Thelma Irene Moore was born September 6, 1920 in Grundy Center the daughter of John and Helen Bonk DeBoer. She attended Grundy Center School where she graduated from High School. After World War II she moved to Dysart. While in Dysart she operated the Coffee Shop from 1965 to 1979. She lived in Dysart until 1989 when she moved to Waterloo. On Friday of this past week she entered St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester where her death came on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at the age of 82. Thelma enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives, traveling and eating out. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. Thelma is survived by two sons Rick Davis and his wife Christine of Weatherford Texas, Gary Moore and his wife Julie of Colleyville, Texas; two daughters Vicky Thompson and her husband Jim of Cedar Rapids and Karen Sears of Waterloo; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Memorials may directed to Adults Incorporated in Waterloo, Iowa.

Verbena "Minnie" Luck
Verbena Elizabeth “Minnie” Luck was born in Allison, Iowa on April 15, 1916, the daughter of Dave & Jennie (Hovenga) Wildeboer. Minnie was united in marriage to Ernest “Tom” Luck on July 25, 1936 in Parkersburg, Iowa. Tom preceded Minnie in death on April 18, 1977. Minnie continued to make her home in Waterloo, and most recently was living at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, where she passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2003 at the age of 86 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons; Kenny & David, 2 brothers; Francis & Philip, and 3 sisters; Florence, Lizzie and Lori. Minnie is survived by 1 daughter; Dixie (Ron) Greenley of Waterloo, 2 sons; Donald on Waterloo, Dennis (Fran) of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, 1 sister; Janet Medhaug of Waterloo, 7 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Raymond "Gene" Mason
Raymond Eugene Mason was born on December 8, 1929 at Burlington, Iowa; the son of George and Josephine Mason. As a young child, his family moved around throughout the midwest, where he received his education. In October of 1949, Gene married Jo Swearingen and they were later divorced in 1969. Gene worked at John Deere as a painter and was also an excellent automobile bodyman. His death came on March 12, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital at the age of 74 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gene is survived by his companion Addeen Petersen of Aurora, 2 sons; Kenneth of Grundy Center and Rod of El Paso, TX, 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Frank Yuska
Frank Aaron Yuska was born January 2, 1921 in rural Buckingham, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mary (Schrier) Sr. Frank attended school at Buckingham and later graduated from Geneseo High School in 1938. He then began farming on the family farm. On September 17, 1945 he was united in marriage to Dolores Kvidera at Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier, IA. They made their home all their married life on the farm near Buckingham. Frank had been fighting a battle with cancer and his death came on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at the age of 82 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception at Blessing, K.D. Lodge #130 of Clutier and the Tama County Farm Bureau. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Donald. He is survived by his wife Dolores of Buckingham, four sons; Wilfred of Buckingham, Joe and wife Deb of Waterloo, IA, Karl and wife Cathy of Urbandale, IA and Arnold of Waterloo, IA, a sister Mildred Wright of Cedar Rapids, IA and seven grandchildren.

Evelyn D. Ferguson
Evelyn D. Ferguson, 92, of Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, died on Monday, March 24, 2003 of natural causes. She was born on January 17, 1911, in Waverly, Iowa; the daughter of Sewall and Bessie (Rew) Page. She married Donald E. Ferguson on June 30, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa. They were married 47 years when he died in 1975. Mrs. Ferguson was a 1928 graduate of East High School in Waterloo and a 1932 graduate of Pitzes School of Cosmetology in Waterloo. Mrs. Ferguson sold Avon products well over 20 years in the Waterloo area. She was a member of the Avon President's Club and Honor Society, being recognized for outstanding sales achievement. Mrs. Ferguson has been a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church since 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Bette Dahl on December 19, 2000, a brother Perry Page, a sister Helen Page and a great-granddaughter Kelly Lowe. She is survived by 2 daughters, Kay (Jim) Keeran of Waverly and Sally (Jim) See of Littleton, CO, a son Steve (Debby) Ferguson of Waterloo, 10 grandchildren; Tammi (Perry) Schellpfeffer, Jim (April) See, Sara (Brian) Spafford, all of Littleton, CO., Robyn (George) Kennedy, Brian (Rhonda) Dahl, Jennifer (Chris) Lowe, Amy (Joe) Rogness all of Minneapolis, MN., Stephanie Ferguson of Naples, FL, and Stacie and Jennie Ferguson of Waterloo. Evelyn was also survived by 18 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy or Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Falls.

Robert Wood
Robert Gordon Wood was born February 11, 1943 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Gordon and Wilma Bowen Wood. He was raised in the Traer area and graduated from Traer High School in the class of 1961. Robert then began farming northwest of Traer. He was united in marriage to Verona Ohrt, and they later divorced. Robert sold feed for Moorman Feed and later worked at Payless Cashway in Waterloo as an inventory specialist. On February 26, 2001 he was united in marriage to Gloria Balvanz at Marshalltown, Iowa. They made their home in Marshalltown where he drove a cab for Godfrey Cabs and also did woodworking. Robert's hobbies included fishing and woodworking. Robert's death came suddenly at his home on Monday, March 24, 2003 at the age of 60 years. He is preceded in death by his father Gordon Wood. Robert is survived by his wife Gloria of Marshalltown, his mother Wilma Wood of Traer, two sons, Todd of Coralville, Iowa, Paul and his wife Kathy of Clutier, Iowa; two daughters Tara Raue and husband Duane of Fremont, Nebraska, Anna Daniels and husband Mike of Iowa City, Iowa; one step daughter Kim Canaday and husband Brett of Marshalltown; one sister, Cathy Halsted and husband Francis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

Janet Halverson
Janet Lucille Halverson was born Dec. 10, 1947 in Waterloo. Janet was the daughter of Robert and Iris (Abbot) Walters. She was united in marriage to Dean Halverson on August 7, 1965 in Waterloo. Janet enjoyed fishing, camping and riding her 900 Harley. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed her grandchildren and watching cartoons. Janet was preceded in death by her father Robert, a sister; Frances Diggins, one brother; Larry Walters and a brother in law; David Cline. Janet is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years; Dean, her mother; Iris of Waterloo, two sons, Dean Jr. and his wife Nikki, and Darold Halverson, both of Waterloo, two sisters, Pat Clive of Georgia, and Darla and her husband Bill Romer of Waterloo, two brothers Bruce and his wife Carol Walters, Robert and his wife Barb Walters, both of Waterloo. Janet also had eleven grandchildren, Felicia, Kayla, Angel, Jesse, Dean III, Jerico, Dakoda, Jena, Taryn, Scott and Zack. She will be greatly missed.

Mildred Shogren
Mildred Jean Orr Shogren was born March 3, 1924 at Columbus City, Iowa, to James "Harold" and Bess Robinson Orr. She was raised in Columbus City and attended school there, graduating in 1942. Mildred attended Monmouth College and Iowa State Teachers College, where she earned her teaching degree. She taught kindergarten in Monticello and Vinton before marrying Lloyd Vincent Shogren at Columbus City on December 23, 1952. The couple farmed for more than 40 years in the Blairstown area before retiring to Vinton in 1997. Mildred was an active member of the Blairstown Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years, and more recently at the Vinton Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. Mildred loved reading, puzzles, visiting with friends and e-mailing. She was a devoted wife and mother and dearly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Following a brief illness, her death came Sunday, March 30, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids at the age of 79 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Howard Shogren; two sisters-in-law, Em and Della Shogren; and son-in-law, Bob Meade. In addition to her husband of 50 years, Lloyd, she is survived by her four children, Kathy Fell and husband, Neil, Garner, IA, David Shogren and wife, Ann, Geyserville, CA, Diane Dvorak and husband, Dan, Iowa City, IA, Connie Beatty and husband, Jim, Vinton, IA, one sister, Margaret Orr, Ames, IA, and seven grandchildren, Matthew Fell, Ames, IA, Janeen Fell, Garner, IA, Daniel Shogren, Geyserville, CA, Nathan Dvorak, Tara and Tyler Meade, all of Iowa City, and Samuel Beatty, Vinton, IA.

Agnes Boldt
Agnes Elsie Boldt was born January 19, 1909 in rural Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Halupnick) Drahos. She was baptized in the Catholic faith and attended country school near their family farm in rural Traer. On July 6, 1936 she was united in marriage to Harold Boldt at Cedar Rapids, IA. They made their home farming near Traer, Gladbrook and Toledo. Following Harold's death on January 21, 1987 she continued to live on the farm and worked as a cook for various restaurants. Agnes moved to Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer and more recently had resided at Franklin General Care Facility in Hampton, IA where her death came on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at the age of 94 years. She enjoyed helping other people, especially her family. She also loved to travel , play bingo and loved her car. Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, two daughters Helen & Violet, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by a son Harold Boldt of North Platte, NE, three daughters, Lauritta (Mrs. Merlyn) Hofer of Toledo, IA, Phyllis (Mrs. Dwain) Thompson of Masonville, CO and Marilyn Miller of Toledo, IA, a sister Wilma Dolash of Toledo, IA, 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
