Larence Johnson

Funeral services for Larence "Larry" Johnson were held Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak. Burial was at the Mamre Cemetery in Stanton, IA, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating.

Larence Leroy Johnson, the son of Willard and Eva May (Whitman) Johnson, was born September 23, 1926, at Essex, IA. He died on Saturday, February 14, 2004, at Stanton, IA.

Larry had lived most of his life in the Stanton community. He was united in marriage to Wanda Courcier on May 26, 1945 in Red Oak, IA. Larry worked for several farmers in the Grant and Wallin areas before moving into Stanton in l954. He owned a garage with Lawrence Foote from l954 until 1956. Larry went to work for the REC in l956, working for ten years. He then bought out Stanton TV and Electric from Bob Westenburg. He operated the business for ten years. In l976 Larry started to work for the City of Stanton as the city electrician and manager until his retirement in l990. Larry enjoyed golfing and camping. Larry used to play town baseball for Stanton, Elliott and Grant. Larry was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton and was a past Stanton Volunteer Fireman.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandchild, Cody Gilliland.

Larry is survived by his wife, Wanda Johnson of Stanton; two daughters, Pat Gilliland and husband Jerry of Stanton, and Donna Johnson and husband Tom of Stanton; a son, Larence Johnson Jr. "Butch" and his wife Cynthia Sue of Leon, IA; ten grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Relda Hultquist and husband Merlin of Red Oak; a brother, Lance Johnson and his wife Lois of Red Oak; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Stanton Fire & Rescue and the Stanton Library.

Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Andrew Charles Chapman

Funeral services for Andrew Charles Chapman were held Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak, IA, with the Rev. Gordon Thomas officiating.

Andrew Charles Chapman, the son of Andrew Z. and Donna Jean (Johnson) Chapman, was born January 2, 1950 in Red Oak, IA. He died on Monday, February 16, 2004 at his home in Malvern, IA.

Andy was the first baby born in Montgomery County in l950. He attended school in Red Oak and Villisca. While living in Griswold and later in Branson, MO, Andy worked with his father doing carpenter work. After returning to Red Oak from Branson, he worked several years at Star Ag until it closed. He then moved to Geneseo, IL, working for Dubuque Packing until its closing. In 1984 Andy moved to Malvern, IA and worked for Aksarben Beef in Omaha for several years. He later worked in the carpenter trade and at Shaker's in Malvern until his health failed.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Michael.

He is survived by his four brothers: Warren and wife Donna of Council Bluffs, IA; Kenneth of Malvern, IA; William and James, both of Red Oak, IA. Also three sisters: Mary Lanning and husband Richard of Marysville, KS; Jean Johnson of Red Oak, IA; and Alice LuAnn Nease and husband Rick of Red Oak, IA; step-mother, Mary Chapman of Malvern, IA; many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and a host of friends.

Lyman E. Anderson

Funeral services for Lyman Earland Anderson, of Tyler, TX, formerly of Stanton, IA, will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery . Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

Lynam Earland Anderson, the son of Harry T. and Ella Hultquist Anderson, was born at Stantonon June 9, 1910. He died on February 2, 2004, at the Hospice Home Place in Tyler, TX.

Lyman was raised in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School in 1928, working in the family-owned service station and gas business there until 1949. He was united in marriage to Florence Anderson on May 31, 1935.

Lyman served in the US Army from March 1944 to December 1945, assigned to the Army Aviation 871st Engineers in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.

After WWII, Lyman returned to his family in Stanton and resumed his career with the family oil business. In 1946, Lyman joined the American Legion and was still a registered member after more than 50 years. In 1949, Lyman began his career as a Rural Letter Carrier and continued until his retirement in 1974. He served as an active member of the Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Association, elected as the SW District Secretary for three years and to the State Board of Directors for three years. He received his 50 Year Service Pin in 1999. Lyman was a life long member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church, serving as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He helped with the Pre-School and was a member of the Choir for 43 years. Retirement offered the opportunity for Lyman and Florence to travel extensively throughout the country with their travel trailer and they did this for 10 years, visiting old friends and making new friends throughout the country. Lyman was an avid volunteer and participated in his regional Ostomy Group, the "I Can Cope Program" and had donated well over 100 pints of blood to the Red Cross Blood Drive. After the death of his wife Florence in 1993, Lyman moved to Houston, TX, where he volunteered in the elementary schools in his area and became an active participant and a favorite son of Tallowood Baptist Church. He moved to Tyler, Texas upon the retirements of Rogene and Jim LeNeveu in July of 2002.

Lyman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Marcia, a sister, Lillian Keesling and a brother, Harley Anderson.

Lyman is survived by his daughter Rogene LeNeveu and her husband, James, of Lindale, TX, and his son Mark and his wife Linda, of St. Louis, MO. Grandchildren: LeeAnne Oesch and her husband, Rusty, of Dallas, TX; Dave and Elizabeth LeNeveu of Dallas, TX; Dan LeNeveu of Houston, TX; Tom LeNeveu and his wife, Shelley of Newark, TX; Lorie Thuet and her husband, Al, of St. Louis, MO; Mike Anderson and Beth Anderson of St. Louis, MO; Cindy Haulman and her husband, Gary, of Denver, CO; and Brian George of Denver, CO. Also other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Mamrelund Lutheran Church Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel L. Rhamy

Mabel Leola Rhamy, the daughter of John and Ida (Newberg) Olson, was born November 6, 1908 near Villisca, Iowa. She died on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Mabel was raised in the Nyman area until age 8, when the family moved to the Carbon and Villisca areas. She was united in marriage to Murl Rhamy on August 24, 1927 at Corning, Iowa. They started to farm southeast of Villisca in l940. Mabel helped her husband on the farm for many years. They moved to Red Oak in l983. Mabel enjoyed sewing and was a great mom to her children. Murl died on January 19, 1986 and Mabel later was united in marriage to Albert Winstone on October 24, 1996 at Buffalo, Missouri. Mabel was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Villisca. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Murl and 4 brothers, Vern, Paul, Melvin and Leonard.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Albert Winstone of Red Oak, Iowa; a son, John Daniel Rhamy of Escondido, California; two daughters, Anna Marie Ribb and her husband Clyde of Springfield, Missouri and Betty Young and her husband William "Spike" of Red Oak, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Steve Rhamy, Linda Craig, Mike Rhamy, Harvey Young, Harold Young, Nancy Schnormeier, Gloria Thompson, Norman Wirth, Diana Wirth and Teresa Vertee; 12 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM At the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services on Saturday at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home

Clara F. Anderson

Funeral services for Clara Frances Anderson of Stanton, IA, will be held Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kuttzli officiating.

Clara Anderson died Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA. She was born June 30, 1904 in Page County, IA, the daughter of Gust A. and Esther C. (Johnson) Anderson. Clara was raised in the Nyman and Bethesda areas.

She was united in marriage to Nels E. Anderson on February 4, 1925, in Stanton. She lived most of her life in the Stanton community. Clara was a stay-at-home mother and helped her husband. Clara was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and was involved in the ladies circles of WELCA. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Stanton.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Nels on January 29, 1993; two sisters, Edith Smith and Selma Benskin; two brothers, Elmer C. Anderson and Albert Anderson; and a granddaughter, Pam Nelson.

Clara is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Nelson of Schaumburg, IL and Mrs. Marveline Isaacson of Stanton, IA; eight grandchildren and spouses, Bonnie and Mike Schumacher of Wauconda, IL, Sheryl and Dennis Schon of Hanover Park, IL, Brad and Denise Nelson of Belvidere, IL, Denise and Randy Goddard of Stanton, IA, Doug and Susan Isaacson of Stanton, IA, Diane and Bruce Peterson of Baldwin City, KS, Darla and John Baudler of Fontanelle, IA and Danny and Jamie Isaacson of Cresco, IA; twenty-three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Mercer of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Ruth Lynam

Ruth Lynam, age 61, of Stanton, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 29, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after a sudden illness.

Ruth A. Lynam was born April 22, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Hans and Sonja (Viklund) Nicolaisen. The family moved to Denver when Ruth was 12. She attended and graduated from the Wheatridge High School in 1960. She furthered her education in Chicago, Illinois at the Swedish Covenant School of Nursing receiving her RN Degree in 1963.

Ruth worked in Chicago for 3 years moving back to Denver in 1966. She worked for the Ft. Logan Mental Health. She was united in marriage to Ron Lynam on April 6, 1968 in Arvada, Colorado. They moved to Southwest Iowa in 1970 and to Stanton in 1971. Ruth worked for the Murphy Memorial Hospital in Red Oak as well as the Good Samaritan Care Center before having children. Ruth was fortunate to enjoy staying home with the children until they were of school age. She then started back to work in the kitchen at the Stanton High School. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton.

Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter: Jennifer Lynn Lynam; and her parents.

Survivors include her husband: Ron Lynam of Stanton, Iowa; children: Andrew Lynam and his wife Tina of Red Oak, Iowa; Lorrie Yoakum and her husband Kevin of Phoenix, Arizona; and Christine Lynam of Chicago, Illinois; 3 grandchildren; Nicholas Hans Lynam, Aidan Richard Yoakum, and Erick Ronald Yoakum; a sister: Marianne Mellin and her husband Ray of Westminster, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, February 2, 2004 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Yoakum and Pastor Paul Warder officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery in rural Montgomery County, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 1-4 PM Sunday, February 1, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak.

Memorials are suggested to the Twin Lakes Bible Camp.

Betty Jane Bergren

Funeral services for Betty Jane Bergren of Yorktown, IA, were held Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa, with Rev. Carl Phillips officiating.

Betty Jane Bergren was born April 18, 1928, in Sidney, IA, to James Ensley Parrish and Mary Etta (Barnes) Parrish and died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at the Eiler House, in Clarinda, IA. Burial was at the Summit Cemetery , rural Yorktown, IA.

Betty was a graduate of Sidney, Iowa. She was united in marriage December 6, 1947, to Leland Bergren. He preceded her in death July 22, 1997.

Betty was a teacher aide in the Clarinda Community School system for 35 years and approximately 25 years of this time she worked at the Yorktown Special School. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Norwich, IA. She was also a volunteer at the Page County Historical Society.

Preceding Betty in death were her parents; husband, Leland Bergren; sons: Larry Bergren and Roy Bergren.

Survivors include her son, Rodney Bergren and wife Helene of Polk City, IA; grandchildren, Jeff Bergren and wife Shaney, Trischa Solivan, Jessica Bergren, Daphne Bergren, David Bergren; step grandchildren, Tony Cole and Kelly Cole; great grandchildren: Brandon Bergren, Brodie Bergren, Zachary Bergren, Cade Solivan, Isabel Solivan; sister, Geraldine Beam of Stanton, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Methodist Church, Norwich, IA. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Miller

Funeral services for Vera Miller of Creston, IA, formerly of Corning, will be held Thursday, January 29, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Ken Rummer officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Corning, IA.

Vera Miller was born June 23, 1918 in Nodaway, IA, to George Washington and Bertha (Clark) Hunter. She died at the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston on January 26, 2004.

Vera graduated from Nodaway High School in 1935. She married Marshall Wayne Miller on November 25, 1936.

She was a seamstress at Turner's Department store in Corning for many years. Vera was a member of Emblem Chapter #64 OES, the United Methodist Church and was an assistant 4-H leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, George, Albert and Ivan.

Vera is survived by a son, G.L. Miller and special friend Joy Sheridan, Corning; daughter Nancy and husband Bob Bowman, Winterset, IA; a half-brother, Dean Hunter, Nodaway; sisters-in-law, Mickie Hunter, Albuquerque, NM, Marie Hunter, Rockport, MO, and Ruby Hunter, Arcadia, IA; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Terry E. Thompson

Terry E. Thompson, of Missouri Valley, IA, died January 8, 2004 at the Creighton University Hospital Center in Omaha, NE after a lengthy illness. Terry was born October 5, 1953 in Corning, IA to Charles and Czarina "June" (Westlake) Thompson.

He graduated from Villisca High School. He then enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving his country in Vietnam, he was aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Midway CVA-41. During that time he worked in nuclear weapons. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation. Terry was also part of the Saigon evacuation on the USS Midway. After his discharge, he worked at the US Naval Shipyard in Bremmerton, WA, the Nevada Test Site in Las Vegas and for OPPD at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Station where he was employed at the time of his death.

While in the Navy he was united in marriage to Patricia Hurry Thompson and to this union was born two daughters: Brianna and Amy Jo. He was united in marriage to Dee Fitzpatrick Thompson and to this union was born a daughter, Robyn. On July 29, 1955 he was united in marriage to Pam Hasenmeyer and to this union was born a daughter, Kaylee.

Terry was a member of the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, Eagles Aerie 3876 and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Blair, NE.

He is survived by his wife, Pam; four daughters and sons-in law: Brianna and John Bitner ,Roswell, NM, Amy Jo and David Wilds, Albuquerque, NM, Robyn Thompson, Destin, FL and Kaylee Thompson, Missouri Valley, IA; step-daughter, Dacia Fitzpatrick, Detroit, MI; step-son, Sean Fitzpatrick, Destin, FL; mother June, Mondamin, IA; sister, Beverly Indrika, Omaha, NE; granddaughters: Bryttini and Rebekah Bitner, Elizabeth Thompson; grandson, Nikolus Thompson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Beth Hasenmeyer, North Platte, NE; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Amy Hasenmeyer, North Platte, NE; special friends: Lavonne Hougen, Dave and Tawna Lloyd, many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother Leslie and his grandparents.

A memorial fund will be set up for his daughter Kaylee's college education.
