LOLA M. BABIAK
Memorial services for Lola M. Babiak of Bay Village, OH, will held Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA, with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday.
Lola M. Babiak died suddenly at her home December 13, 2004. She was born August 31, 1948, in Red Oak, IA, the daughter of Ronald and Aneitta (Dorr) Figgins.
Lola had attended cosmetology school in St. Joseph, MO, and worked at Union Carbide in Red Oak for over 21 years. She moved to Bay Village, OH, in 1991. Lola was married to Michael Babiak on July 12, 1991. She was currently working for Sears in the hardware department; she had worked there for over 12 years.
Lola is preceded in death by her mother Aneitta Figgins.
She is survived by her husband Michael Babiak of Bay Village, OH; sons Jason Woods and Justin Woods, both of Red Oak; one grandson and one step grandson; her father Ronald Figgins of Villisca; and one brother Larry Figgins and wife Deann of Villisca; plus nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Burial will be in the Nodaway Cemetery , near Nodaway, IA.
A memorial is being established. Wolfe Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
BEULAH EATHEL WILEY
Funeral services for Beulah Eathel Wiley of Bedford, IA, were held December 23, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Nodaway, IA. Burial was at the Maple Grove Cemetery
in Guss, IA.
Beulah Wiley died Thursday, December 16, 2004, at the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center, Bedford, IA, where she had been a resident for the past seven years.
Beulah was born December 25, 1904, in Taylor County, IA, the daughter of Frank Elmer Diggs and Alta Jane Hoffman. She was the second of ten children and would have celebrated her 100 birthday on December 25.
Beulah married Loran Lewis Wiley on February 1, 1922, in Clarinda, IA. Loran preceded her in death on December 2, 1986. They farmed for several years in Adams County, IA, then moved to Texas in 1944, later Rialto, CA, and then returned to farming around Gravity, IA. Beulah had worked as a motel housekeeper in San Bernardino, CA, and a farm wife in Iowa.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Harold; five sisters: Zella Wiley, Lela Wirth, Elma Schooling, Stella Nickell and Lavon Dugan; and one brother, Hildred Diggs.
Beulah is survived by her children: Robert Wiley and wife Lela of Basehor, KS; Donald Wiley and wife Elizabeth of Basehor, KS; Shirley Biel of Rialto, CA; Clifford Wiley and wife Patty, of Rosburg, WA; and Kathryn Webb and husband Dick of Elk Grove, CA. Twenty grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and twenty four great great grandchildren, brothers Harley Diggs of Clarinda, IA, and Frances Diggs and wife Rita of Clarinda, IA, sister Elzene Diggs of Clarinda, IA.
Memorials may be directed to the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center or the Nodaway Methodist Church.

LOWELL EUGENE LONG
Memorial services for Lowell Eugene Long of Lenox, IA, formerly of Villisca and Braddyville, IA, and Maryville, MO, were held at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox on December 22. Burial will be at the Braddyville Cemetery
at a later date.
Lowell died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the Greater Community Hospital, Creston, IA. He was born January 21, 1936, at Braddyville to Clarence Long and Ruth Viola (Ellison) Long.
Lowell served in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Patricia Barnes of Shambaugh. After his military service Lowell and Pat lived in Rogers, AR, where Lowell worked in a refinery. In 1975, Lowell was diagnosed with MS, and they moved back to the Clarinda/Maryville area and started support groups to help handicapped persons in the area. Patricia preceded him in death in 1992. On October 14, 1995, Lowell was united in marriage to Marjorie Irene Amos at Villisca, Iowa.
Preceding Lowell in death were his parents and wife Patricia.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie of Lenox, IA; an aunt, Erma Brickey of Mound City, MO; cousins Phyllis Stanton, Charlene Bradley, Ann Dankenbring and other cousins, relatives and friends.

JOHN R. MCKENZIE
Graveside services for John R. McKenzie, of Red Oak, IA, formerly of Newton, IA, were held December 17, 2004, at the Grant Cemetery
in Grant, IA, with Kieffer Lehman officiating.
John R. McKenzie died December 14, 2004, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. He was born August 12, 1914, in Lewisville, CO, the son of James and Dora (Brown) McKenzie.
The family moved to Harvey, Iowa where John graduated in 1931 from the Harvey High School. He was united in marriage to Edith Young on March 12, 1936, in Newton. To this union was born a son, Gerold “Jerry” McKenzie. John worked in an underground coal mine for 21 years and was the superintendent of the Clinton Rock Quarry for 30 years. He and Edith lived in Grant, IA, from 1951-1956, Camanche, IA, from 1956-1984, and Newton, IA, from 1984 until May of 2004, at which time they moved to Red Oak
John was preceded in death by his parents; son Jerry McKenzie in 1963; three sisters,Violet, Elsie, and Margaret; and a brother, Kenneth.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Edith McKenzie of Red Oak; two granddaughters, LaDonna Focht and husband Mark of Villisca, IA,and Deb Liebig and husband Mike of Gretna, NE; seven great grandchildren, Andrew Focht and wife, and Aaron, Ryan and Amanda Focht, all of Villisca, and Lindsay, Shelby and Cassady Sunderan, all of Gretna, NE; two nieces, Dora Nielson of Marion, IA, and Dixie Norton of Des Moines, IA, many cousins and other relatives and friends.

Amos “Lance” Johnson
Funeral services for Amos “Lance” Johnson of Red Oak, IA, were held Monday, December 13, 2004, at the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak. Burial was at the Mamre Cemetery
in Stanton, IA, with the Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating.
Amos “Lance” Johnson, the son of Willard and Eva May (Whitman) Johnson, was born July 29, 1922 in Montgomery County, IA, near Elliott. He died on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak.
Lance was united in marriage to Irene Sellers on April 11, l942, at Maryville, MO. They lived at Mortons Mill, Wales, Elliott and then moved to a farm south of Stanton. Lance served during WW II in the U. S. Army from 1942 till 1945 and received the Purple Heart. Lance farmed south of Stanton for thirty years and also worked for the N.F.O. for over twenty years. Lance and Irene moved to Red Oak in l991. After the death of Irene, Lance was united in marriage to Lois Sellers on January 14, 1994, at Nebraska City, NE. He was an avid watcher of sports, baseball, football and many others. Lance enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was a member of the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 in Stanton.
Lance was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Irene, and a brother, Larence “Larry” Johnson.
Lance is survived by his wife, Lois Johnson of Red Oak; children Dorothy Hilzendeger and husband Terry of Red Oak, Dale Johnson and wife Chris of Villisca, IA, Mary Willhite and husband Roger of Houston, MO, Juanita Chaney and husband Dennis of Glenwood, IA; step-children Clyde Sellers Jr. and wife Nadine of Red Oak, Harley Sellers and wife Danielle of Des Moines, IA, Tom Sellers and wife Sheila of Drake, CO, Terry Sellers and wife Mary of Red Oak, Jeff Sellers and wife Betty of Grand Island, NE, Artie Sellers and wife Cindy of Red Oak, Judy Maxell and husband Marvin of Red Oak, IA, and Jeanette Demanett and husband Raymond of Red Oak; 31 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and a few great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Relda Hultquist and husband Merlin of Red Oak, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

MELVIN “JOHN” OLTMANNS
Private memorial services were held December 7, 2004 at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, CO, for Melvin John Oltmanns.
Melvin “John” Oltmanns was born April 1, 1936, in Belgrade, NE, to John and Alvina (Blankemeier). He died December 3, 2004, at the Hospice Care Center in Loveland, CO.
John graduated from Villisca High School in Villisca, IA, in 1953. He began working as a phone repairman at the age of 17. In April 1966, he moved from Villisca to Colorado, working with the Mt. Bell and US West telephone companies before retiring in 1998. He married Bonnie Meacham in 1972 in Loveland. He was formerly married to Ruth Sprague of Loveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Bonnie Oltmanns, of Loveland, CO; daughters Terri and husband Mitch Bradley of Sun City, CA; Becki Oltmanns of Fort Collins, CO; Chrystal and husband Mikey Meacham of Killeen, TX; Cherie and husband Kurt Hutchins of Loveland, CO; and Janelle and husband Justin Corbett of Centinnial, CO. Also a brother, Kenneth and wife Ethel Oltmanns of Villisca, IA; and a sister, Dolores and husband Cliff Thomas of Glenwood, IA; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

RUSSELL (JOHNNY) BAKKE
Funeral services for Russell (Johnny) Bakke were held October 16, 2004, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE, with internment at Evergreen Memorial Park in Omaha.
Johnny died October 4, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha after a massive stroke. He was born September 7, 1922, in Omaha, but at about age two moved to Villisca to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frans, with whom he grew up.
Johnny attended grade school at the old Lincoln Building and graduated from Villisca High School in 1940. After working in Villisca at Winters Clothing Store for a year, he moved to Long Beach, CA, where he worked for Douglas Aviation, building Army C47 cargo planes. He volunteered to enter the Army Air Corps and was sent to the European theater as a radio operator. His plane was involved in dropping paratroopers at night during and right after D Day. Johnny’s plane was shot down in the English Channel, but he was rescued by an English patrol boat. He was awarded a silver star.
On returning to the States, he attended and graduated from the University of Omaha with a BS degree in business administration. He then was employed by Mutual of Omaha for 38 years, attaining officer status.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mardell; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Earl Anderson and Jane and Bob Kremers; grand children Damon Pernicone, Carl Anderson IV, Catherine Anderson, Reece Kremers; and many close friends.
HARRY RUSSELL, JR.
Memorial services for Harry Russell Jr. of Villisca, IA, will be held at a later date.
Junior was born November 15, 1922, near Nodaway in Adams County, Iowa. He died November 19, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

ANNABELLE GRACE GRIFFITH
Funeral services for Annabelle Grace Griffith of Elk Horn, IA, formerly of Villisca, were held November 29, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with Pastor Chris Hall officiating.
Annabelle Griffith died November 24, 2004, the Shelby County Mytue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, IA. She was born June 15, 1919, in Adams County, IA, the daughter of Clifford DeVoss Lee and Alice Marcella (Embree) Lee.
Annabelle married Gerald (Jud) F. Griffith October 6, 1934, in Maryville, MO. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1998. Annabelle had been worked as a cook at the Marsh Café, Elm Café and Sierp’s in Villisca and also in Tenville and Corning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter Marilyn; two sisters, Alberta Kimpson and Lois Lee; and a great granddaughter Cara Elizabeth Griffith.
She is survived by her children Joanne Coulter and husband Robert of Harlingen, TX; Charles Griffith and wife Cheri of Exton, PA; James Griffith and wife Donna of Modesto, CA; Ross Griffith and wife Carol of Corning, IA; and Alice Linden and husband Gale of Kimbleton, IA. Also twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren and two sisters, Charlesa All of Cheyenne, WY, and Wylma Bowlin of St. Joseph, MO, plus nieces nephews other relatives and friends.

WILLIAM “BILL” GRAY
Funeral services for William “Bill” Gray of Stanton, IA, were held Friday, November 26, 2004, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alan Dean officiating.
William Gray died November 22, 2004, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Bill was born September 14, 1925, in Canton, SD, the son of Harold and Claire (Mitchell) Gray.
The family moved to Adams County when Bill was a young boy. He attended grade school in Adams County and high school in Nodaway. After school, he farmed until he entered the U.S. Army during WWII.
Upon return from the war, Bill was united in marriage to Josephine Dolecheck on June 25, 1947 in Troy, KS. They farmed in the Stanton area until 1966. He drove a truck on the farm to market route and later drove a rendering truck, retiring in 1996. He continued to work part time for area farmers. Bill was a member of the Stanton American Legion Post and enjoyed draft horse pulling all over the Midwest.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marguerite Kehr, and Ruth Perrin and her husband Dallas; two brothers, Paul Charles Gray and Jack Gray; sister-in-law Marilyn Gray; son-in-law Dan Forkner; two nephews, Edwin Dale Powell and Robert Gray; and a niece, Clara Mae Perrin.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Gray of Stanton; son, Paul Harold Gray of Stanton; daughter, Patricia Forkner of Des Moines; brother Jim Gray of Prescott; two brothers-in-law, David Kehr of Rifle, CO, and Duane Dolecheck and wife Eula of Creston; three sisters-in-law, Joann Gray of Villisca, Carolyn Gray of Prescott, and Pauline Crussell and husband Clemmeth of Clarinda; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
