EVA M. CROXDALE

Funeral services for Eva M. Croxdale of Alamogordo, NM, were held August 21, 2004, at the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel in Alamogordo with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, IA, under the direction of Wolfe Funeral Home.

Eva M. Croxdale was born March 16, 1912 to Ora Helen (VanDeventer) and Corbin Goldsberry in Shelby, IA. She died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 in Alamogordo.

She married Edward L. Croxdale, and worked while he was in medical school. They had a son, Michael Bruce. Upon returning from service in the Pacific theater during WWII, Edward set up practice in Villisca as a general practitioner and Eve was the office manager. The Croxdale's were close to Jerry Ziehe, who became like a son to them, and to their nephew Robert Moore. Son Michael became a doctor, marrying Judith Gerow, and having a son, Leyton Edward Croxdale. Jerry Ziehe was a pilot in the USAF. Michael, Jerry and Robert all served in Vietnam; Jerry died there.

After the early death of her husband, Eva moved to Des Moines and then ultimately Alamogordo, NM, where she played many rounds of golf and hands of bridge.

Eva was preceded in death by her four siblings: Ike, Dwayne, Dorothy and Colene; her husband, Edward Lee Croxdale; her son, Michael Bruce Croxdale; Jerry Ziehe; and infant daughter, Susan Van.

She is survived by Leyton and Lisa Croxdale, Robert and Lynn Moore and Danny, and Jeff Goldsberry, numerous wonderful friends.

DOROTHY C. WILTZ

Dorothy C. Wiltz, the daughter of Shird and Elizabeth (Seals) Crain, was born on April 11, 1923 in Washington Parish, Louisiana. She died on Friday, August 27, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 17 days.

Dorothy was raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana and graduated from high school in l941. She was united in marriage to Anthony Wiltz in l956. They lived in New Orleans, Louisiana until his death in l993. Dorothy then moved to the Stanton community in l994. Dorothy had worked during WW II in the Higgins ship yard, building landing crafts for the military. After the war, she went to work for Walgreen's for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anthony in l993, a son, Darrell Wiltz, 5 brothers, 5 sisters and a great-granddaughter.

Dorothy is survived by a son, Dwight Vought and his wife Linda of Stanton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; Victoria Burque, Anthony Wiltz III, Steven Wiltz, Christie Wiltz, Sandra Parris, Janice Wiltz, Timothy Vought, DeeDee Wiltz, Kimberly Vought and Roxanne McHenry; 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

BARBARA JANENE MILLER

Funeral services for Barbara Janene Miller of Jefferson City, MO were held Friday, August 13, 2004 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA, with Rev. Gordon Scott officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery . Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Barbara Janene Miller was born March 15, 1947 in Clarinda, IA, the daughter of Orvis Austin and Carolyn Maxine (Nelson) Wagaman, and died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the Capital Region Medical Center.

She was a 1965 graduate of Villisca High School and a 1967 graduate of the C.E. School of Commerce in Omaha, NE.

Barbara worked for Union Pacific Railroad from 1967 to 1984; the State of Missouri Department of Mental Health from 1984 to the present; and for Sears from 2002 to the present. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was active in the church's Mentoring Program and Sarah Circle. Barbara was also a member of the Business Women's Association-Lavita Chapter. She was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Royals.

Barbara is survived by her parents, Orvis and Carolyn Wagaman of Omaha, NE; one son, Marc Miller and wife Katie of Jefferson City, MO; one daughter, Molly Miller of Jefferson City; two sisters, Beverly Boe and husband Robert of Gretna, NE, and Brenda Rotella and husband Al of Omaha; one brother, Jan Wagaman and wife Kimberly of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren, Meghan and Garrett Miller of Jefferson City; her friend and former husband, Jon Miller of Jefferson City; plus numerous relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church Mentoring Program, 327 East Capital Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65101 or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

WYLMA E. FISHER

Funeral services for Wylma Fisher of Villisca were held Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with Rev. Gordon Scott and Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wylma E. Fisher was born January 5, 1913, in Montgomery County, IA to James and Lou (Shepherd) Higgins, and died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, where she had been a resident since September 18, 1998.

Wylma graduated in 1930 from Villisca High School and received a teaching certificate from Normal Training. She could have taught school but due to her mother being an invalid and her father's poor health, she chose to stay home and care for them. Wylma was united in marriage August 16, 1933 to Donald Fisher. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Wylma was an active member of the Methodist Women's Society as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of two neighborhood clubs, a coffee club in Villisca and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for 75 years.

Wylma was preceded in death by her parents in 1939; her husband Donald in 1986; two sisters, Ona Wagaman and Jessie Wagaman; brother, Fred Higgins; and great-granddaughter, Heather Fisher.

Survivors include her four children: Gale Fisher and wife Ann of Villisca, Guila Murren of Red Oak, Linda Conner and husband Warren of Omaha, NE, and Steve Fisher and wife Mary of Red Oak; nine grandchildren: Jerry Fisher and wife Carolyn, Kim Shirley and husband Mark, Vonda Renfrow and husband Steve, Darrin Fisher and wife Heather, Mindy Lindquist and husband Ryan, Don Clark and wife Betty, Devon Bauer and husband Jeremy, Ange Kinser and husband Greg, and Daniel Fisher; thirteen great-grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

EVELYN LAVERNE OTH

Private graveside services for Evelyn Laverne (Wills) Oath of Clarinda, IA, were held August 16, 2004, at the Villisca Cemetery . The Rev. John Clark officiated.

Evelyn was born July 8, 1926, in Villisca, IA, the daughter of Harvey and Elzene (Smith) Wills. She died August 11, 2004, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

She graduated form Villisca High School in 1943, and married Richard Oth on February 10, 1962, in Florrisant, MO. She was named the American Business Woman of the Year in 1979 in St. Louis, MO.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Richard, of Clarinda; daughter Diana McKibben and husband James of Placentia, CA; daughter Linda Buhr of St. Louis, MO; and son Richard Buhr and wife Anette of Placentia, CA; and sister Doris Saltzgiver and husband Glen of Villisca. Also three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, plus nieces and greatnieces and greatnephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Lied Fitness Center in Clarinda. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

HAZEL MILDRED "BUNNY" JONES

Funeral services for Hazel Mildred "Bunny" Jones of Red Oak, IA were held Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial was in the Gomer Cemetery at Wales, IA. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Mildred "Bunny" Jones was born September 22, 1911 in rural Wales, the daughter of David and Silvia (Maxwell) Jenkins, and died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.

She was raised near Wales and graduated from Wales High School. She attended Red Oak Junior College for 1 year, receiving her teaching certificate. Hazel taught at the Triplett School until her marriage to George D. Jones on April 15, 1935 at the Oaks Church. Hazel and George farmed all of their lives around the Wales and Red Oak areas. Hazel was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church, attended Oaks Church, and when she moved into Red Oak attended the Church of the Nazarene. She was also a charter member of the Jolly Janes. Bunny was a sports enthusiast all of her life mostly wanting to support the children. She loved the car races, gardening, flowers, playing the piano, cardinals, and most of all her family.

Bunny was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Trent Jones; husband, George D. Jones on July 17, 1983; son-in-law, Gary Honeyman; and several sisters and brothers-in-law.

Survivors include her children: LaDonna Honeyman Rossander and husband Harold of Stanton; Karen Rahn and husband Richard of Omaha, NE; Trent Jones and wife Frances of Kansas City, KS; and Larry Jones and special friend Katie Grange of Snowmass, CO; three grandchildren: Dixie Singbeil and husband Byron of Washington, IA; Marvin Honeyman of Essex, IA; and Sherri Jones of Kansas City, KS; nine great-grandchildren: Andrew, Jordan, Mallory, and Colton Sinbeil, Gary, Audra, and Scott Honeyman, and Carrie and Callie Jones; brother, Harold Jenkins of Emerson, IA; sister, Hellen Bonfy of Red Oak; many nieces and nephews, including Bryan Jenkins and wife Trudy of Red Oak; Darry Jenkins and special friend Linda Jay of Emerson; Don Jenkins and wife Nancy of Atlantic, IA; and Margaret Ann Maher and husband Mick of Red Oak; as well as many other relatives and friends.

CYNTHY ANN SPENCER

Funeral services for Cynthy Ann Spencer of Villisca, IA, were held April 26, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with burial in the Villisca Cemetery.

Cynthy died April 23, 2005, at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, IA, where she had been a resident since February 18, 2005.

Cynthy was born January 23, 1940, in Shenandoah, IA, the daughter of Al and LaVeta (Sullivan) Sloey. She was a 1958 graduate of the Shenandoah High School.

After graduation, Cynthy worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company in Shenandoah, Carroll and Red Oak.

Cynthy married Dale Spencer on August 23, 1963. She babysat, worked at K-Mart, the Dime Store and was a stay-at-home mom. She had worked as a dietary assistant at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center from 1991 until ill health forced her to retire in 2001.
Cynthy was a member of the Morton Mills Union Church, the Villisca Lions Club, Eastern Star, and was an EMT for Villisca for many years. In 2004, she was honorary co-chairman for the Montgomery County Relay for Life.

She is survived by her husband Dale of Villisca; son Alan Spencer and wife Andrea of Gilbert, IA; and daughter Dee Brand and husband Russell of Davenport; two grandchildren, Samuel and Jarred Brand; one brother Michael Sloey and wife Janet of Manchester, MO; plus other relatives and friends.

Cynthy was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Victor Wayne Spencer.

Memorials may be directed to the Villisca EMTs. Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca in charge of arrangements.

CLARK EARL MEANS

Funeral services for Clark Earl Means of Villisca, IA, were held April 21, 2205, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca, with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.

Clark Means died Monday, April 18, 2005, at his home in Villisca. He was born May 6, 1912, in Montgomery County, IA, and raised on the family farm east of Villisca, IA, the son of Clyde Earl Means and Eva Hattie (Johnson) Means. He attended East #1 (Findley) country school before riding his horse to town daily for high school. After graduating from Villisca High School in 1930, he began work at the lumberyard. He also worked at the Farmers Store. Clark attended John Deere mechanics school in Waterloo and became the local service man for John Deere at Danielson Implement.

Clark met Marie Casey in 1936. In 1941 he purchased 120 acres adjacent to the family farm and began farming. Clark and Marie were married February 24, 1942 in Omaha, NE. To this union two sons were born, Stanley Allen and Dennis Earl. Clark enjoyed raising livestock and working the soil. They retired and built a new home in Villisca in 1977.

Clark was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church and Farm Bureau. Clark and Marie camped throughout the Midwest as members of Waubonsie Ramblers Camping Club. They also belonged to Circle 8 Square Dance for 35 years, and enjoyed square dancing while wintering in Texas. Woodworking was a favorite pastime. Clark enjoyed the family and looked forward to their visits. His grandchildren enjoyed challenging "Grandpa" to a game of cards.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Harold Means.

He is survived by his wife Marie of Villisca, IA; sons Stanley Means and wife Karen, and Dennis Means and wife Pat, all of Villisca, IA; six grandchildren, Brent Means and wife Billee of Villisca, IA, Clint Means and wife Shona of Villisca, IA, Robyn Benco and husband Joe of Scottsdale, AZ, Chad Means and wife Courtney of Villisca, IA, Teresa Wacha and husband Tom of Ames, IA and Tyson Means and wife Tina of Villisca, IA; seven great grandchildren, Kelsey, Tyler, Baillee, Brodee, Chloey, Julia and Camden, plus other relatives and friends.

Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca was in charge of arrangements.

THELMA TAYLOR

Funeral services for Thelma Taylor, Morton Mills, IA, were held April 19, 2005 at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Gerald Wiser officiating. Burial was in the Grant, Iowa Cemetery.

Thelma Taylor died April 14, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak. Thelma Lois Taylor was born April 29, 1916, east of Grant, IA, the daughter of Roy and Estella (Curry) Hines. Estella later married Merrill Foote whom Thelma thought of as her father. She was raised in the Grant area, graduating from the Grant High School. Thelma was united in marriage to Lloyd Taylor on July 25, 1934. To this union six children were born.

Thelma and Lloyd lived in the Grant and Morton Mills areas all of their lives. Thelma started working for the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak in 1974 as a housekeeper. She was promoted to House Keeping Supervisor in 1977. Thelma became the Housekeeping and Laundry Supervisor in 1981 and retired in 1989 after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, the Grant United Methodist Women, and the Morton Mills Ladies Aid, as well as many other clubs that she enjoyed.

Preceding her in death was her infant daughter Barbara Jean; her parents; husband Lloyd Taylor; son Ronald Taylor; brother-in-law Ross Adams; and sister-in-law Lucille Foote.

Survivors include her three sons, Lynn Taylor and wife Sandy of Morton Mills, IA, Melvin Taylor and wife Mary of Merrimack, NH, and Greg Taylor and wife Marlene of Morton Mills, IA; daughter, Janette Motley and husband Jerry of Niwot, CO; daughter-in-law Jeannette Taylor of Red Oak, IA; eighteen grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; honorary daughter Diane Nealeigh and husband Ron of Trenton, NE; two sisters, Beatrice Adams of Griswold, IA, and Phyllis Schuler and husband Junior of Atlantic, IA; two brothers Lawrence Foote and wife Billie Ann of Stanton, IA; and Edwin Foote and wife Marilyn of Stanton, IA; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
