BESSIE MAE (ANDERSON) MYERS

Funeral services for Bessie Mae Myers of Loveland, CO, were held March 18, 2005, at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Chapel, Loveland. The Rev. Bill Beard and Rev. James Wade of Valley Assembly of God officiated. Burial was at the Resthaven Memory Gardens north of Loveland. Escorts were Lowell Davis, Danny Dorrance, Ben Dunkin, Dwayne Hummel, Valley Hummel and Eldon Myers, Jr.

Bessie Mae Myers of Loveland, CO, died March 14, 2005, at the Berthoud Living Center in Loveland.
She was born December 27, 1916, near Strand, Adams Co., Iowa, to Marshall (Mike) Anderson and Bessie Mae Olson, Bessie's mother died unexpectedly on January 12, 1917, at the age of 20, leaving their 17 day old baby girl, Bessie Mae. Bessie May was raised by her Grandma Caroline (Larson) Anderson, her Aunt Celia and Uncle Ole Anderson after the death of her mother.

She married Martin Henry Myers on March 16, 1935, at a group wedding ceremony (fourteen couples) at KFNF, the Henry Field Seed Company Radio Studio, Shenandoah, IA, by James Pearson, radio minister. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 1995. They had no children.

The couple farmed in Iowa before moving in 1953 to Berthoud, CO, where they owned and operated Myers Market for several years. They moved to Loveland, and Bessie worked for the Loveland Memorial Hospital and McKee Medical Center in the housekeeping linen department. She retired after eight years.

She was a member of the Valley Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Myers, on November 2, 1998.

She is survived by a stepsister, Maxine Shewman of Atlantic, IA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

NORMA TAYLOR

Graveside memorials services for Norma Taylor of Trenton, NE, formerly of Grant, IA, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Grant Cemetery in Grant.

Norma Taylor died Thursday, February 17, 2005, at the McCook Community Hospital in McCook, NE. Norma Jean Taylor was born August 18, 1921, in Montgomery County, IA, the daughter of Delbert and Ruby (Goss) Campbell. She was raised, educated and lived the majority of her life in Montgomery County.

In 1939, Norma was united in marriage to Stanley Taylor in Red Oak, IA. Norma worked as a cook at the Grant grade school, bookkeeper for the C & T Gas Station, and as a grocery store clerk for the Grant Food Market from which she retired. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church. Stanley and Norma moved to Trenton, NE, in 1994 to be near their daughter, Diane.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one infant sister; her husband Stanley Taylor on January 19, 2000; her son Gary Taylor; and grandson Matthew Taylor.

Survivors include her daughter Diane Nealeigh and husband Ron of Trenton, NE; two granddaughters, Nickie Carlson of Griswold, IA and Debbie Pelzer of Grant, IA; one grandson, Jason Peterson of Trenton, NE; seven great grandchildren; sister Thelma Taylor of Council Bluffs, IA; many nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

WALLY JOHNSON

Funeral services with military honors for Wally Johnson of Sunrise Beach, MO, were held March 15, 2005, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie, MO, with the Rev. Jim Rosemergy officiating.

Wallace "Wally" Johnson died Friday, March 11, 205, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, MO. He was born March 23, 1928, in Essex, IA, the son of Reuben and Mae Royer Johnson.

Wally was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. He started his life in Essex, IA, and lived there until 1954. He married Elaine Franzen on June 20, 1954, and moved to Red Oak, IA, where they lived until 1969. They moved to Tucson, AZ, and La Serena, Chile, where Wally worked for AURA. Wally was a member of the Friends of God Unity Church in Sunrise Beach, owned and operated Johnson Construction for 45 years and The Gun Shop for 10 years.

Wally is surved by his wife, Elaine Johnson; a son Chris Johnson of Sunrise Beach, MO; a daughter Stacey Johnson and partner Tommy Dohogne of Vallejo, CA; a brother Raymond Johnson and wife Marianna of Red Oak, IA; a sister Marvis Harms of Red Oak; and a sister-in-law Leona Johnson of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends.

From the 3-8-05 Villisca School Bulletin: Bill Scott passed away on Monday about 5:30 p.m. Services are pending. Bill taught math at Villisca during the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. Cards may be sent to Carol Scott, 3327-110th Street, Randolph, Iowa 51649.

PAUL GREENFIELD

Funeral services for Paul (Ted) Greenfield of Villisca were held February 26, 2005, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Burial was at the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca.

Paul Greenfield died February 21, 2005, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. He was born October 9, 1910, in Page County, Iowa, the son of Zay and Etta (Vance) Greenfield.

Paul married Leta Beavers November 12, 1938 in Grant City, MO. To this union three children were born: Joe, Jean and Janet. Paul and Leta had farmed near Villisca, before moving into Villisca in 1975.
Paul enjoyed family and friends, spending time at the Villisca Senior Citizen Center, fishing, camping, traveling and planting flowers.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Leta, infant granddaughter Jody Haley and grandson Scot Lenz; by brothers Glen, Murl and Charles Greenfield; two infant sisters; and one sister-in-law Marjorie McNerney.

Paul is survived by his children Joe Greenfield and wife Marjorie of Red Oak, IA; Jean Lenz and husband Larry of Nodaway, IA; and Janet Haley and husband Tom of Nodaway, IA; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one sister Wilma Greenfield of Villisca; sister-in-laws Nona Greenfield of Walters, OK, Esther Roberts of Oregon, Irene Stackhouse of Clarinda, IA and Ardith Earl and husband Neil of Mojave, CA; plus other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial is being established.

DARREL D. ISAACSON

Funeral services for Darrel D. (D. D.) Isaacson of Essex, IA, were held Friday March 4, 2005, at the United Methodist Church, Shenandoah, IA, with Rev. James Gusbser officiating. Burial was in the Summit Cemetery , rural Yorktown, IA.

D.D. died Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca He was born August 18, 1932, in Yorktown to Julius and Clevia (Hartman) Isaacson.

He grew up in Yorktown and attended Clarinda High School. He helped his father and grandfather in the blacksmith shop in Yorktown. Darrel served in the United States Army during the Korean War. While stationed at Fort Tilden in Long Island, NY, he met and married Ethel Rasmus on December 3, 1954, celebrating 50 years together this past December. Following his time in the army, they returned to the Yorktown and Essex area where he began farming
Darrel was active in the Yorktown and Shenandoah Methodist Churches, teaching high school Sunday School for 12 years. He volunteered many hours working to establish the Page I Rural Water District. He was a member of the board of directors, serving as chairman for 18 years. D. D. was also in Farm Bureau and an active 4-H parent. He attended GI Farm School and was a member of the American Legion and Soil Conservation District.

Preceding Darrel in death were his father, and brother, Gary Isaacson.

Survivors include his wife Ethel of rural Essex, IA; son Curtis Isaacson and wife Wanda of Clarinda, IA; daughter Deanne Isaacson of Lincoln, NE; daughter Jolinda Gowing and husband Kevin of Clarinda, IA; son Kris Isaacson and wife Julie of Plainfield, IL; son Eric Isaacson and wife Lana of Crestwood, KY; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Sandra Emley and husband Don of Manhattan, KS, Julane Borth and husband Bill of Oklahoma City, OK, and Susan Jungman of Council Bluffs, IA; and sister-in-law, Hazel Isaacson of Galesburg, IL.

Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association or to the Education Directors Fund of the Methodist Church, Shenandoah, IA.

JOHN L. NEILL

Memorial services for John L. Neill, of Red Oak, IA, were held February 12, 2005, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Red Oak. Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery.

John L. Neill, the son of John E. and Zora (Hollingsworth) Neill, was born July 8, 1901 in Adams County, IA, near Carbon. He died on January 31, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 103.

John was raised and farmed near Carbon, IA. He was united in marriage to Mary F. Evison on April 26, 1925 at Corning. He farmed in Montgomery County from 1941 to 1948. He moved to Red Oak in l949. After moving to Red Oak, John worked for Thos D. Murphy Calendar Company. The past two years he has lived with his daughter in Stanton. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Red Oak.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary on November 24, 1995, two brothers and two sisters.

John is survived by a son, Edward Neill and wife Kay of Emerson, IA; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Scherzinger of Leawood, KS, and Carolyn Houston and husband Gordon of Stanton, IA; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

IRMA EVELYN STRAIT PEARSON

Funeral services of for Irma Pearson of Somerville, TN, were held February 5, 2005, at the Peebles Chapel in Somerville with her niece's husband, Dr. Roger Briggs, director of the Fayette Baptist Association, officiating. Internment will be at the Nodaway Valley Cemetery in Nodaway, IA.

Irma Pearson died after an extended illness on February 3, 2005, at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville, TN.

She was born April 8, 1911, in Adams County, IA, the daughter of Charles C. Strait and Hattie L. James Strait. She graduated from Villisca High School in 1930.

Irma Pearson was the last survivor of her immediate family. She is survived by two nieces, Jeannette Briggs of Somerville, TN, and Jeannie Blew of Fort Mill, SC.

Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ELDON W. MILLER

Funeral services for Eldon Weston Miller of Clarinda, IA, were held February 12, 2005, at the Church of Christ, Siam, IA, with Loren Daly officiating. Masonic services were held February 11, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, IA. Burial was at the Siam Cemetery , Siam, Iowa.

Eldon Miller died February 9, 2005, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, IA.

He was born August 5, 1913, near Siam to John Weston Miller and Pearl (Summers) Miller. He grew up in the Siam area and went to school there. He married Anna Beery July 28, 1936 at Shenandoah, IA. They celebrated 68 years of marriage. Born to this union were Norma Jean Miller, Joyce Miller Nielsen, Marsha Griffith Nielsen, John Miller, June Chavez and Mary Lou Lindburg.

Eldon was a lifelong farmer in the Siam area. He was an active lifelong member of the Siam Church of Christ where he was a Sunday School teacher. Eldon was a 60 + year member of the Masonic Plumb Lodge #285.

Preceding Eldon in death were his parents; daughters Norma Jean Miller and Joyce Nielsen; sons-in-law Ed Chavez and Larry Griffith; and granddaughter, Teresa Leland.

Survivors include his wife Anna of Clarinda, IA; daughter Marsha Griffith Nielsen and her husband Knud of Fort Morgan, CO; son John Miller and his wife Betty of New Market, IA; daughter June Chavez of Denver, CO; daughter Mary Lou Lindburg and her husband Dave of Villisca, IA; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LEE M. WERNER

Funeral services for Lee M. Werner were held February 14, 2005, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, with Rev. Sarah Brown officiating. Burial was at the Clarinda Cemetery.

Lee M. Werner was born December 6, 1908, on the family farm northwest of Clarinda, IA, in Nodaway Township, the eldest child of Albert R. and Alvina Goecker Werner. He died February 10, 2005, at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, IA.

Lee's parents came to Page County in 1906 from Deshler, NE. The home farm remained in the family from 1879 for 100 years, at which time it was sold to a neighbor. With the exception of two years in Deshler and the last few years at Stanton, Lee lived his entire life in Page County. As a young man, he worked at Standard Oil, Swifts, and Opitz Motor Company in Clarinda, later returning to farm in Douglas Township.

In 1930 Lee married Evelyn Johnson. Later they bought the Johnson farm at the Bethesda corner. Following Evelyn's death in 1976, Lee married Jessie Katharine (Skiles) Swanson and lived on the farm 1 1/4 miles north of Bethesda. After their health declined, Jessie Katharine and Lee moved to the Stanton Care Center.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; brother Edward; and sister Leona Woods.

He is survived by his sister Alice Gardner of Onley, VA, and niece Janice Boldenow and husband Gerald of Rockport, IL; friends Bob and Cathy Williams of Bethesda and Corinne Goecker of Clarinda.
Memorials are suggested to the church or donor's choice.
