MARY COLEMAN
Mary Margaret Coleman, the daughter of John and Miriam (Norcross) Ogden, was born May 9, 1909 in Frankfort Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 2 months and 6 days.
Mary graduated from Red Oak High School in l927 and attended Iowa State University. She later moved to California and was united in marriage to William "Henry" Coleman in l941 at Las Vegas, Nevada. Mary worked for North American Aviation as a bookkeeper. She lived in Venice, California until moving back to Red Oak in 1994. Mary then entered the Stanton Care Center in l996. Mary was a past member of P.E.O. and enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Henry on January 12, 1974.
Mary is survived by a brother, John Ogden and wife Lola of rural Red Oak, Iowa, a niece, Sandra Adams of Ft. Collins, Colorado, a nephew, Steven Ogden and wife Becky of Nevada, Iowa; 7 great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

WILDA MARTIN
Wilda Martin, age 85, of Clarinda, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00A.M., Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Mary Hansen officiating. Visitation with the family will be 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery . Wilda Regina Crowell Martin was born in Albia, IA on January 3, 1920 to Kate (Webb) and Hollis Crowell. She spent her early years in the Albia and Lovilla area. While still young, her family moved to Oskaloosa, IA where she attended school. It was there, her senior year, that she met a new classmate, Jack Bower Martin. She was the yearbook editor and he was the yearbook photographer, interests that would follow them through their next 66 years together. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1937 as valedictorian and then attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She then worked at the Pratt Paper Company in Des Moines while Jack attended the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.
She was married to Jack on September 21st, 1941 in Oskaloosa IA and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just prior to her husband's death, October 10, 2001. Two children were born to Wilda and Jack, Katherine Marie and Lucinda Jane.
Wilda and Jack moved to Clarinda in 1941 and stayed until Jack joined the Navy. She then returned to Oskaloosa until his discharge in 1946. They then returned to Clarinda to make their home.
Wilda attended Clarinda Community College, graduating in 1959, again as valedictorian. She then began her teaching career in Villisca, IA. She continued her education through night classes, correspondence courses and summer school. She received her BA in 1966 and her MA in 1971 from Drake University in Des Moines. She continued as a first grade teacher in Villisca until her retirement in 1982. Wilda loved teaching elementary school children and she touched many lives with her abilities and love of learning. Many of her students kept in touch and this was continued as she lived in the Villisca Good Samaritan Care Center.
Wilda was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Westminster Women's Group, KH Chapter of PEO, Mensa International, American Association of University Women, Drake University Alumni Association, Villisca Education Association, National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association, serving many years on the Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee. She was also a Lifetime member of the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society, having been instrumental in the formation of the organization 30 years ago.
Wilda was avid bridge player, having been a member of the same bridge group since 1946. She was accomplished artist in several areas and an enthusiastic reader. She enjoyed traveling as her oldest daughter lived in Europe for 27 years. She also accompanied her husband to Mexico several times through the VOSH (Volunteer Optometrists Serving Humanity) organization, helping hundreds with better vision care. She was an expert at crossword puzzles, doing them in ink! She also enjoyed collecting antiques, various forms of needlework and working in her flower gardens.
In her retirement, she took the position of Secretary for the newly formed Glenn Miller Birthplace Society. At the same time, she was also the Editor of the Miller Notes, the society newsletter, until 1996. The GMBS 'office' having been in their home at this time, she worked daily from morning until night, taking calls from members and other interested parties from all over the world. She worked diligently to track down members of the Miller family and former band members. She loved working with all the members and seeing them at the annual festival in June. She was very proud of the organization and the work that it did to further both the memory of Glenn Miller and music education.
Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack and their daughter, Katherine of Pau, France.
Her daughter, Lucinda Martin of Des Moines, and three nieces and a nephew in the San Francisco Bay area survive her.
VIRGINIA ANN CAMPBELL
Virginia Ann Campbell 91, formerly of Grant, Prescott and Corning, Iowa area, died Friday morning July 8, 2005 at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont, Nebraska. Virginia was born May 25, 1914, in Grant, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lucy Ann (Cozad) Blackburn.
Virginia graduated from Grant High School in 1931. She had worked for the Prescott school systems as the school secretary and started working for Corning Municipal Utilities in 1961, where she retired as Office Manager. Virginia was a member of the Methodist Churches in Grant, Prescott and Corning. She had lived in Grant, Prescott and Corning and moved to Papillion, Nebraska in 2000 and Fremont, Nebraska in May of 2005.
Her hobbies were doing crossword puzzles and she was an avid book reader. She belonged to many clubs and church groups, on of which was the corning Literature and Drama Club. Virginia was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Corning. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling the country with the Now Or Never Tour Group.
Virginia is survived by her children: Larry Campbell and wife Marlene of Lawton, Oklahoma, Connie Bray and husband Bill of LaVista, Nebraska, Carole Campbell of Flagstaff, Arizona, and James Campbell and wife Patricia of Fremont, Nebraska. Twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. One sister Helen Blackburn, a niece Phyllis Steinberg of Omaha, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Virgina in death were by her parents, son Paul Douglas Campbell, grandson Michael Campbell, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 11, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Corning with Rev. Ron Croom officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery , Grant, IA. Memorials may be directed to the Corning United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund. Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca are in charge of the arrangements.
RAYMOND KNUDSON
Raymond Knudson, the son of Mads and Anna (Frandson) Knudson was born January 20, 1912 in Clay County, Nebraska. He died on Friday, July 1, 2005 after a brief illness at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Raymond was raised in Clay County, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Lorine H. Sterkel on April 5, 1936 at Bellevue, Kansas. They moved to Nodaway, Iowa in 1940. Raymond farmed in the Nodaway area until moving to Red Oak in l979. He was a member of the Nodaway United Methodist Church at Nodaway, Iowa and the Masonic Lodge. Raymond enjoyed sports, music, his yard and his dog. Raymond most of all enjoyed to traveling with his wife in their motor home to Texas and California in the winter. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorine on May 4, 2005, a daughter, Cheryl Wray Knudson, 2 brothers, Louis and Herman, and 2 sisters, Nellie and Carrie.
Raymond is survived by three sons; Dr. Merlyn D. Knudson of Red Oak, IA, Lowell W. Knudson and his wife Nancy of Springfield, MO, and Jerry L. Knudson and his wife Diane of Las Cruces, NM; five grandchildren, Todd Knudson of Lincoln, NE, Tracy Tvrdy of Lincoln, NE, Scott Knudson of Salt Lake City, UT, Mike Knudson of Harrison, AK, and Keely Knudson of Springfield, MO; three great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

KENNETH A. PETERSON
Kenneth August Peterson, the son of Emil N. and Elna (Holmstedt) Peterson was born on August 1, 1919 in Montgomery County, Iowa north of Stanton. He died on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 28 days.
Kenneth was confirmed in early youth in Mamrelund Lutheran Church. He graduated from Villisca High School in l937, having been active in sports all four years and Kenneth played baseball with the Stanton, Iowa town team for several seasons. He entered the U.S. Army during WW II serving in the Pacific theater for 3 years, being honorably discharged in January of 1946. He was united in marriage to Marigail "Gail" Lant on May 7, 1946 at Stronghurst, Illinois; on May 7, 2005 they celebrated their 59th anniversary.
He farmed in the Stanton area most of his life and enjoyed raising registered Hereford cattle until moving into Stanton in l989 due to his health. Kenneth was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak, having served as elder three times and held other positions. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the American Legion Lorraine Post 67 of Red Oak serving as Commander for three terms. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Aaron Peterson Hoppock.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Gail Peterson of Stanton, Iowa, a daughter, Margaret (Meg) Hoppock of Stanton, Iowa, a granddaughter, Katelynn Hoppock of Chicago, Illinois, and a grandson, Kenneth Ross Hoppock at home in Stanton, Iowa, a sister, LaDonna Hogberg and husband John of Omaha, Nebraska, niece Janiece Sizemore and husband, Russell and family of Clyde, Kansas, nephews; Mark Hogberg and wife, Leslie and family and Merle Hogberg and wife, Beth and family all of Omaha, Nebraska, other relatives and host of friends.

KENNETH W. BOWMAN
Kenneth Wayne Bowman, son of Lonnie Bryan and Verna Ida Pullen Bowman, was born at home in Nodaway, Iowa on August 15, 1924 and passed away at the Elm Heights/ Parkcrest Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the age of 80.
Kenneth lived on a farm south of Nodaway until his family moved into a home in the town of Nodaway at the age of 14, later moving to Bedford with his grandparents until September of 1943 when he enlisted in the Navy. Kenneth attended school until 10th grade, and in 1969 Kenneth received his GED with his daughter when she graduated from Malvern High School. Kenneth also received education from the Boyles College for telegraphy in 1947 and Radio Repair National Institute in 1952. Kenneth served with the Navy from 1943-1945.
On June 16, 1946 he was united in marriage to Mary R. Fisher at the First United Methodist Church in Villisca, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Nodaway, Iowa, later living in the towns of Villisca, Red Oak, Malvern and Shenandoah.
Through the years Kenneth had a variety of occupations, but the majority of his life he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He later did radio repair and from 1978 until 2001 was a realtor, having Bowman Realty from 1989-2005. For over 13 years Kenneth worked for Jay Drug delivering drugs. Kenneth was a member of Malvern Masonic Lodge #58 A.F. & A.M. Glenwood, Iowa, Fremont/Page Board of Realtors, First United Methodist Church of Shenandoah, American Legion Post #88, and Eagles Aerie # 3849 of Shenandoah, Iowa. He loved to play with his grandson Levi, caring for his dogs, Megan and Bridget, coffee time with friends, collecting of die cast model cars, fishing and dancing.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Darlene Bowman, and a brother, Keith Bowman.
Survivors include his wife Mary; son, K. Duane Bowman and wife Barb of Parker, CO; daughters, Deborah Bobbitt and husband Gary of Fremont, NE, Dana Detrick of Shenandoah, IA; grandson, Jamison Levi Detrick; step grandchildren, Scott and Amy Berg; sister, Shirley Walker of Cascade Locks, OR; brother, Dale Bowman and wife Betty of Corning, IA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and countless relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Services was held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Rev. James Gubser. Caring for flowers were Carolyn Ruhde and Sarah Hoffman. Attending the memory register were Betty Hodges and Betty Hoxie. Organist, Ardys Cowherd, accompanied vocalists, Lance and Janet Hensen. Ushers were Dan Finlay, Al Ruhde and Eldon Manchester. Honorary Pallbearers were Merlin Tasto, Dave Vanni, Levi Detrick, Tom Henderson and American Legion Post #88 Members. Pallbearers were Terry Pullen, Ray Gragg, Craig Canoyer, Steve Fisher, Eugene Pullen and Doug Bowman. Military Rites were given by American Legion Post #88 of Shenandoah, Iowa. Interment was in North Page Cemetery
near Villisca, Iowa.

J. J. JAMES
Funeral services were held June 25, 2005, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, at 10:30 a.m. for J. J. James, of Corning. The Reverend Jerry Wagoner officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery
in Corning.
J.J. was born March 19, 1987, in Corning to Jeffery McKinney and Ramona James. He attended Corning High School and also, Orient, Glenwood and Prescott in his earlier years. J. J. was a member of the Prescott 4-H Workers, Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Southwest Saddle Club.
J.J. is survived by his mother, Ramona James of Corning; father Jeffery and wife Rita McKinney of Glenwood; brothers Chad James of Nodaway and Jarad James of Corning; sisters Bethany Bokin, of Corning and Jessica McKinney of Glenwood; grandparents Margaret and Ivan James of Corning, Jean McKinney of Creston and Larry McKinney of Kent' great-grandparents Florence James of Corning and Gale and Mary McKinney of Orient.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather Merlin James.
