MABEL PEARL NORD

Mabel Pearl Nord, the daughter of Alfred and Alma (Ohlquist) Danielson, was born December 3, 1914 at Casey, Iowa. She died on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the Life Care Center in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Mabel was raised in the Stanton area and graduated from Stanton High School in l932. She was united in marriage to Robert G. Nord on September 24, 1938 in Stanton, Iowa. Mabel was a hairdresser in Stanton and operated her own salon. Mabel and Robert also owned and operated the White City Café. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska in l957. She then worked for Western Electric for 22 years. Mabel was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Omaha. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert on November 10, 2001, a daughter, Darlene, an infant son, 4 grandchildren, Jeff Nord, Mary Mangelsen, Paul Mangelsen and Kim Crawford, 2 brothers, Rueben and Wallace, 2 sisters, Edna and Lillian.

Mabel is survived by 2 sons; Richard Nord and wife Annemarie of Omaha, NE, and Rodney Nord and wife Linda of Omaha, NE, three daughters; Roberta Summers and husband Ron of Gravois Mills, MO, Ramona Mangelsen and husband William of Omaha, NE and Roclyn Humphrey and husband Steve of Brownsboro, AL, 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, IA with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating. Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:30 AM till service time at 1:00 PM

HARRY JUNIOR RUSSELL

Graveside memorial services for Harry Junior Russell, 82 of Villisca, Iowa will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Arlington Cemetery , near Villisca.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 at Breadeaux Pisa in Villisca.

Memorials may be directed to the Villisca E.M.T's or the Villisca Food Pantry. Donations for the Pantry can be brought to visitation.

Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NORMA ELEANORA ANDERSON

Norma Eleanora Anderson of Red Oak, the daughter of Joel A. and Effie E. (Hultine) Lindell was born December 18, 1917 in Montgomery County, Iowa northeast of Stanton, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, June l4, 2005 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Norma was raised in the Stanton and Wallin areas. She attended school in Montgomery County and later completed office management classes at Clarinda. Norma was united in marriage to Harold W. Anderson on March 22, 1941 at the Tabor Lutheran Church, Wallin, Iowa. They lived on a farm north of Stanton until moving to Red Oak in l987. She had worked for many people in Red Oak and at Connor's. Norma then became the office manager for Farmers Mutual Telephone Company in Stanton for 23 years. The children said, we never needed a phone book with mom around. Norma was a member of the Tabor Lutheran Church, serving in many offices and roles as, Junior Mission Band Leader, Luther League counselor, Sunday school teacher, chairman of the church council, women's groups, and was the organist for 20 years and sang in a ladies chorus. Norma and Harold helped many intern pastors, serving as surrogate parents. Norma had many hobbies; knitting, quilting many quilts for missions, cross stitch and playing cards. Norma enjoyed genealogy, being involved with the Montgomery County Historical Center and Stanton Historical Center. Norma and Harold were active in 4-H with the children and was the Farm Family of the Week on WOW TV in the late l950's.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Einar, Delano and Milton and 2 sisters, Dora Ossian and Elvera Linn.

Norma is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold W. Anderson of Red Oak, IA, 5 children; Eldon Anderson and wife Mary of Millis, MA, Wayne Anderson and wife Peg of Lemoore, CA, Norman Anderson and wife Becky of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary Jo Harderson and husband Chuck of Corning, IA and Elaine Gregory and husband Patrick of Blair, NE, 15 grandchildren; Beth, David, Ashley, Tad, Mark, Gina, Brian, Brent, Jared, Lindsey, Sarah, John, Joel, Ellyn and Andy, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mae Isaacson of Omaha, NE, other relatives and a host of friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 17, 2005 at 10:00 AM at the Tabor Lutheran Church at Wallin. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Red Oak Pastor Harold Peterson, Officiating.

Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 PM

ROBERT EUGENE GRAY

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with Ed Simmons officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery , Clarinda.

Robert was born on August 31, 1936 outside of Clarinda, Iowa to Florence Irene LaFever and Charles Martin Gray. He lived most of his life in the Clarinda/ New Market area before his passing on May 29, 2005 following a short illness. He attended Timber Lake Country School in Taylor County, Iowa, New Market Public and Clarinda Public Schools.

On October 8, 1956 he married Juanita Pauline Wagaman and to this union was born Debra Christine, Robert Eugene Jr., Ronald Lynn, Donna Elaine and Diana Sue. Deciding there wasn't enough noise in their household they welcomed John Edgar Lamb, Mary Jolene Lamb, Danny Dee Lamb and Jody Wayne Husted. The family motto was always the more the merrier and it certainly rang true as they helped raise nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and foster children. And when they all got together the laughter rang through the house.

To say Bob loved fishing would be an understatement. He delighted in seeking out and finding new places to cast his line and no puddle was safe. He was also well known for his singing Although he enjoyed spending time with friends and fishing his first love was his family. Whenever he was asked what he wanted for Father's Day he would always reply, "Don't get me anything I just want all of us to get together." Bob also enjoyed family picnics by a lake where he could bring his pontoon and give rides to all the family. Bob and his family moved to a farm outside of New Market to give the children room to run. After retirement he enjoyed going with some of the guys in their semis.

Bob worked for Lisle Corp. for 35 years where he was a Shop Foreman. In the last few years he donated his time and decorations to the Haunted House in Clarinda.

Preceeding him in death are his parents, his brother Walter Gray,and sister Edna (Eddie Lou) Lininger.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Juanita; children Ron Gray and Danny Lamb of New Market, Mrs. Clifford (Debra) Stanley and Mrs. David (Donna) Shum of Villisca, Robert Jr and wife Amanda of Hawleyville, Mrs. Anthony (Mary) Karr and Mrs. William (Diana) Roberts of Clarinda, John Lamb of Syracuse, Neb, and Jody Husted and wife Doris of Red Oak. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Adams of Essex. He leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many, many others who will miss him dearly.

Memorials are suggested to a fund established in his name. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

HESTER A PENRY

Graveside memorial services for Hester A. Penry, 75, of Corning, Iowa will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11,2005, at the Evergreen Cemetery , Red Oak, Iowa. A memorial is being established.

Hester died April 3, 2005, at the Corning Nursing & Rehab. She was born August 23, 1929, in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest Ray and Elma (Ziehe) Briggs. She married David Penry August 17, 1946, he preceded her in death in September of 1981.

Hester is survived by two daughters: Victoria Langdon and husband Arthur of Tacoma, WA and Leigh Hood and husband Tom of Jamestown, IN. Three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sisters: Grace Jett of Shenandoah, IA and Marjorie Sullivan of Denver, CO

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother Donald Briggs and sister Pearl Hunter.

Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca, are in charge of arrangements.

AARON ALLEN BROWN

Funeral services for Aaron Allen Brown of Lake in the Hills, IL, were held May 31, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca, with Pastor Jeff Hontz and Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.

Aaron Brown died suddenly May 25, 2005, in Fort Worth, TX. He was born December 27, 1979, in Corning, IA, the eldest son of Kenneth and Nanette (Leichty) Brown.

Aaron attended elementary and junior high school in Pella, IA. His adolescent years were spent in Greenville, WI. He graduated from Hortonville High School with the class of 1998. Aaron was very computer savvy and received an associate degree in computer technology from Herzing College in 2002. He was a computer science student at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh at the time of his death.
Aaron loved fishing, especially in the farm ponds around Villisca with his grandparents and in the trout streams near Madison, WI. He enjoyed snowboarding, following the Nebraska Cornhuskers, working with computers and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Russell Brown, Glen (Jerry) and Kathlyn Hossman, Henry and Leona Leichty and Emil and Inez Scarff.

Aaron is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Nanette Brown of Lake in the Hills, IL; brother Eric of Madison, WI; grandparents Bob and Elinor Brown of Villisca, IA and Edwin and Jean Leichty of Villisca, IA; great grandmother Fern Brown of Corning, IA, and aunts, uncles, cousins and many other loving family members and friends.

A memorial is being established. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH MICHAEL WISE

A memorial service for Kenneth Michael Wise of rural Villisca, IA, were held May 28, 2005, at First United Methodist Church in Red Oak, IA, with the Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial was at the Summit Cemetery , in Yorktown, IA.

Kenneth Michael Wise died on Wednesday evening, May 25, 2005, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born May 19, 1948 in Maryville, MO, the son of Ralph Shelby and Edna Mae (Abbey) Wise.

The majority of his childhood was spent on the family farm near Siam, IA, in Taylor County. Kenneth graduated from Bedford High School in 1966. He furthered his education at Iowa Western Community College and at Northwest Missouri State University.

He was married to Jacqueline Lynn Simmons, and they had a son, Michael Todd Wise. Kenneth started with the Red Oak Fire Department in October of 1970 and retired in September of 1985. During this time, he served in the capacity of Firefighter, 1st Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief and Fire Chief. He was last employed at the Clarinda Academy as a youth counselor.

On November 6, 1982, he was married to Diana Lynne Arthur in Red Oak, IA, and they resided outside of Villisca near Viking Lake. At this time, Kenneth became a father to David and Katina. His hobbies included hunting, his gun business, fishing and gardening.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Diana of the home; children, Mike Wise and his wife Diane of Red Oak, IA, David Stalder of Yorktown, IA, Katina Antonucci and her husband Glenn of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Chavis, Colby and Colin Wise, Netosha and Tory Stalder, Laura Brown and Emily Antonucci; brother, Philip Wise and his wife Chris of Keokuk, IA; nephew, Todd Wise of Keokuk, IA; father-in-law and mother-in law, Arnold Sump and Dorothy Arthur of Clarinda, IA, along with other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund is being established in Kenneth's name. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda is in charge of arrangements.

PETE J. GAYDOSH

Celebration of Life services for Pete J. Gaydosh were held May 20, 2005, at the St Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca, IA. Burial was at the Villisca Cemetery.
Pete J. Gaydosh of Stanton, IA, died May 16, 2005, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

Pete was born August 18, 1916, in Pueblo, CO, the son of Peter and Susan (Toharcek) Gaydosh.

Pete lived and farmed near Kiowa, CO, until he moved to Stanton in 1966. He continued to farm until 1993, when he was forced to retire because of declining health. Pete had also raised chickens and sold eggs for over forty years. He had enjoyed doing handy work as a carpenter and raising a vegetable garden. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Opal and one sister Theresa Cowan.

Pete is survived by his daughter Karen Evans of Stanton, IA, one brother Joe Gaydosh and wife Maxine of Kiowa, CO, one sister Anna Morris of Denver, CO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial is being established. Wolfe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

MALCOLM SHIPLEY

Funeral services for Malcolm (Mike) Allen Shipley of Nodaway, IA, were held Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nodaway United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Nodaway Cemetery.

Mike died Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE. He was born July 23, 1919, in Adams County, IA, the son of Fred Allen and Alma Edith (Windom) Shipley.

Mike graduated from Nodaway High School in 1938. He worked in the coal mines in Carbon following graduation. He served in the Army during WWII as a second lieutenant in the Third Army 6th Armored Division from 1942 to when he was honorably discharged in 1946. Mike was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star for his gallantry in action.

He returned to the Shipley family farm in Nodaway where he was a lifelong farmer. He sold Pioneer Seed for twenty years. In 2001 he received the Corning Rotary Conservation Award. Mike married Emma Jeanne March on June 16, 1950, in Nashua, IA, at the Little Brown Church.

In his younger years some of his fondest memories were of the Nodaway Town Team basketball and baseball. He served on the ASCS County Committee for many years. Mike served as Mayor of Nodaway for many years and was instrumental in getting city water for the town of Nodaway. He also served as a Nodaway City Councilman, fireman and Nodaway Cemetery Board member. Mike was a member of the Nodaway United Methodist Church, Nodaway American Legion Post #646 and the V.F. W. Wesley R. Miller Post #8998 and the Disabled American Veterans.

His hobbies were vegetable and flower gardening, hunting, fishing and he was an avid reader. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sons Dennis and Donald, brother James and sister Margaret Blackledge, brothers-in-law; Dale Briggs, Bill March and Leonard Shupe.

Survivors include his wife Emma Jeanne of Nodaway, IA, sons Tom Shipley of Nodaway, IA, Clifford Shipley and wife Vicki of St. Joe, Ill, Bill Shipley and wife Diane and Leland Shipley and wife Amy all of Nodaway, IA. Eight grandchildren Katharine, Clinton, Abriel, Kyle, Alyssa, Trever, Connor and Sarah. One brother Earl Shipley and wife Sylvia of Villisca, IA, one sister Enid Shupe of Manchester, IA, brothers in law; Jerald March and wife Grayce of Mariposa, CA and David March and wife Sherry of Hale, MO. Two sisters in law: Rosa Briggs of Rock Port, MO and Thelma March of Hot Springs, S.D., nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorials will be used for a scholarship in his memory.
