CECIL MARVIN PETERSON

Funeral services for Cecil Marvin Peterson, of Villisca, IA, were held Monday, January 9, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca, with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Burial was in the Villisca cemetery.

Marvin, son of Cecil and Stella (Carmichael) Peterson was born March 6, 1928, on a farm northeast of Villisca, Iowa.

Marvin was united in marriage to Deloris Hendrickson, daughter of Marion and Grace (Groff) Hendrickson, on June 26, 1949, at the Nodaway Methodist Church, in a double wedding ceremony with Mary Ann (Hendrickson) and Benny Dunkin. They celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary in 2005.
Marvin and Deloris became the parents of three children; Peggy, Neal and Lori. He lived in the Villisca and Guss area all his life, graduating from Villisca High School in 1946. Marvin and Deloris lived on their farm northeast of Villisca for 55 years where they raised their three children, with the exception of two years spent in Estes Park, CO. He was employed with the Villisca Housing for twelve years.

Marvin was active in the Villisca United Methodist Church, where he was a member of many years. He held offices on the Church Board as well as being a Charter Member of the Methodist Men. He was a member of the Villisca Lions Club. Marvin has served for many years as trustee for East Township as well as serving on the ASCA Committee and past member of the Montgomery County Pork Producers. He was a 4-H Leader for several years. Marvin was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Montgomery County in 1962.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Peggy and son-in-law Dan Rapp and infant brother Carroll.

Marvin is survived by his wife Deloris Peterson of Villisca, IA, son Neal Peterson and wife Cathy of Shenandoah, IA, daughter, Lori Focht of Stanton, IA. Grandchildren: Nathan Rapp of Independence, MO, Megan Link and husband Aaron of Chicago, IL, Abby Medeiros and husband Yarden of Omaha, NE, Grant, Greg and Ally Focht of Stanton, IA, step granddaughter Amy (Rapp) Vance and husband Kip of Independence, MO, two step great grandchildren; Avery and Regan Vance of Independence, MO. Sisters: Deloris Adams and husband Darrell of Griswold, IA and Margaret Shipley and husband Joe of Essex, IA. Sisters-in-law; Mary Ann Dunkin and husband Benny and Janis Davis and husband Lowell of Fort Collins, CO, plus many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

Marvin and Deloris enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. After his retirement Marvin enjoyed spending time in the coffee shop and elevator with his many friends. His outgoing personality was an inspiration to everyone he met.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Villisca.

FRIEDA FERN FIRKINS

Frieda Fern Firkins, 100, of Villisca, IA was born October 18, 1905, in Nodaway Township, Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Christopher Freuck and Stella (Welch) Freuck and died Monday, January 23, 2006 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in Villisca.

Fern attended rural school in Taylor County, Iowa and graduated from Villisca High School in 1923. She taught rural schools for several years in Nodaway Township, Taylor County, Iowa.

Fern joined the Guss Maple Grove Church and was among the early Cradle Roll membership and later taught Sunday School Classes. She was a member of the Church Board and Guss U.M.W.

Fern married Paul Eugene Firkins on June 3, 1925 in Nodaway, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter: Bonnie Marie. They made their home farming in Nodaway Township, Taylor County, until retiring in 1973, when they moved into Villisca

She was employed at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute for 15 years as a nurse's aide. Since moving to Villisca she helped with organizing Senior Citizens Congregate Meal Site and was an active member. She was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church and U.M.W. and attended the Sunday School Classes.

In 1985 Fern and Paul received the "Good Neighbor" citation from Knights of Aksarben in Omaha, NE.

Fern is survived by her daughter Bonnie Garey and husband Bill of Villisca, IA, six grandchildren: Linda Wilberger and husband Dave, Shirley Maxwell and husband Doug, Sandy Peterson and husband Doug, Allan Garey and wife Phyllis, Randy Garey and wife Jolene, Cathy Jochimsen and husband Ron. Eleven great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren and one sister Glenna Mae Robinson of Villisca, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters: Geneva Horton, Ethel VanAlstine and Faye Spencer and grandson Douglas Garey.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA. Burial in the Guss Cemetery , Guss, IA. A memorial is being established.

MARGARET CLEO BRANAN

Margaret Cleo Branan, age 71, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Villisca, Iowa, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2005 at the Guss Cemetery , Guss, Iowa with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Scattering of ashes will take place at the cemetery. A memorial will be established. Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Cleo Branan was born July 20, 1934, at Villisca, Iowa to Charley Fidler and Permilia (Mauderly) Fidler. She was a graduate of Villisca High School. Cleo was united in marriage in 1966, to Clifford Branan. Her family was very special to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford Branan (1977); infant sister, Deo Marie Fidler; brothers, Charles Fidler, Jr. and Don Fidler. Survivors include her children: Shawn Branan and wife Becky of Oregon, Richard Branan and wife Angie of Toledo, Iowa, Cindy Branan and Troy Kent of Marshalltown, Iowa, Charley Branan of Marshalltown, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, Brett, Justin, Shawn Jr., Erica, Andrew, Trever, Tyler, Taylor, Baylee, Deven, Chase, Jesse, Damien, Laci and Aubrey Anna; two great grandchildren, Vincent and Haydin; brother, Jird Fidler and wife Shirley of Villisca, Iowa; sister, Ida Auxier of Elkhorn, Nebraska.

LETHA MAE ROSSANDER

Letha Mae Rossander, the daughter of Roy V. and Mallie (Watkins) Negly, was born January 17, 1934 in Scott City, Kansas. She died on Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Letha grew up in Western Kansas and moved to rural Elliott, Iowa when she was quite young. She was active in 4H and church as she grew up. She was elected as Homecoming Queen her senior year at Elliott High School. After graduating, she began her working career at Red Oak Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. Letha was united in marriage to Robert 'Ross" Rossander on April 4, l954 at the Pilot Grove Methodist Church. He was then a member of the United States Air Force and remained in service for over 41 years as a military member and then civilian employee. In 1968 Letha, began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked in various hospitals and care centers around the world. She was very active in the church, boy scouting, 4H, and little league. She always enjoyed entertaining family and friends whenever they would visit. She was a member of the Villisca Presbyterian Church. Letha also enjoyed genealogy and was the family historian for both sides of the family. She traced the family trees back to Germany, France, and Sweden. Letha also enjoyed cooking and sewing. Letha and Ross traveled for the last decade to Hot Springs, California for the winter months. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, a friend to all and a dedicated Christian. Letha leaves a worldwide legacy of love and caring. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Letha is survived by her husband, Robert "Ross" Rossander of Stanton, Iowa, two sons, Harry Rossander and wife Victoria of Urbandale, IA, and Carl Rossander and wife Debbie of Clearfield, UT, a foster son, Bjorn Dworen and wife Pia of Taby, Sweden, a foster daughter. Kozuco in Japan, 6 grandchildren, Jared Schoepp, Adam and Holly Rossander, Jonathon, Joachim, and Alicia Dworen, a sister, Vivian Karwal and husband Paul of Elliott, IA, nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Villisca, in Villisca Iowa Burial will be held at the Pilot Grove Cemetery , with immediate family only. Rev. Sandy Wainwright, Officiating

JOY A. CARLSON

Joy A. Carlson, age 69, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Joy Ann Carlson was born September 13, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Blanche (Jackson) Burnison. She attended school in Coburg graduating in 1955. That same year she was united in marriage to Richard Carlson on September 4. They lived in Alabama while Richard was in the military then moved to Creston, Iowa and later Red Oak where they have lived most of their lives. Joy worked at Vista Gardens Care Center and Nishna Productions as well as working in the home health field. She was a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman. Joy's greatest accomplishment and enjoyment was her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Gary Carlson in 1982; sister: Lois Garwood; and sister-in-law: Beverly Westenburg. Survivors include her husband Richard Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Richard D. Carlson, Jr. and wife Mi Chong of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Cynthia Tucker and husband Richard of Winterset, Iowa; Stephen Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; Susan Geer and husband Scott of Stanton, Iowa; and Carrie Rinehart and husband Brian of Anamosa, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and was expecting a great grandchild; 5 sisters: Karen Pridemore and husband Harold of Florrisant, Missouri; Phyllis Roseland and husband David of Springfield, Nebraska; Sandra Currie and husband George of Essex, Iowa; Linda Malerbi and husband Larry of Omaha, Nebraska; and Janet Vallone of Clearwater, Florida; 3 brothers: Richard Burnison and wife Leta of Stanton, Nebraska; Lowell Burnison and wife Jan of Red Oak, Iowa; and Larry Burnison and wife Cheryl of Lawton, Oklahoma; brothers and sisters-in-law: John Garwood of Jefferson City, Missouri; LaDonna Raney and husband James of Villisca, Iowa; Marcia Sierp and husband Bob of Onalaska, Wisconsin; Darrell Carlson and wife Mary of Red Oak, Iowa; William Carlson and wife Carol Ann of Clarinda, Iowa; Roger Carlson and wife Mary Jo of Marion, Iowa; Daniel Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; and Barbara Carlson of McCallsburg, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including her special dog: Heidi.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice or the Fremont Lutheran Church.

DOROTHY ANN FRANK

Dorothy Ann Frank, formerly of Villisca, IA, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007 in her home in Gainesville, Florida. Funeral services are pending.

LORRAINE G. LARSON

Lorraine G. Larson, the daughter of Knute and Lydia (Malmberg) Hallquist was born December 5, 1917 near Stanton, Iowa. She died on Friday, February 9, 2007 at Stanton Care Center, Stanton at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 4 days.

Lorraine was raised in the Stanton area, graduating from Stanton High School in l935. She was united in marriage to C. Harold Larson on September 29, 1940 at the home of her parents near Stanton. Lorraine and Harold lived on a farm near Stanton for 43 years, where they raised their four children. Lorraine worked as a bookkeeper for Connor's Department Store in Red Oak for 19 years. While living on the farm, she was an active member of Tabor Lutheran Church at Wallin. After retiring in 1982, Harold and Lorraine moved to Red Oak where she currently was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was very active with many projects in the churches she loved. Lorraine was an artist at heart and loved painting, making handiwork items and weaving rugs which many in the area purchased. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and baking cinnamon rolls to share with loved ones. Lorraine was a past member of Entre Nous in Stanton.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold on August 22, 1989 and a brother Donald Hallquist.

Lorraine is survived by her children: Barbara Reiman and husband Bruce of Papillion, NE; John Larson of Ft. Worth, TX; Linda Wodarski and husband Larry of Incline Village, NV and Keith Larson and special friend Cathi Brown of Red Oak, IA; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Louise Johnson of Stanton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mrs. Eleanor Hallquist of Stanton, IA; brothers-in-law, Darwin Anderson of Red Oak, IA and Eugene Larson of Cedar Rapids, IA; other relatives and a host of friends.

JIMMIE M. JOHNSON

Funeral services for Jimmie M. Johnson, 85, Tucson, AZ, were Monday, January 15, 2007, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, Tucson, AZ. Graveside ceremony was at South Lawn Cemetery at 5401 S. Park, Tucson.

Jimmie M. Johnson, the son of Milton Sr. and Alice M. (Larson) Johnson was born March 23, 1921, in Montgomery County, Iowa north of Villisca. He passed away January 9, 2007, in Tucson, AZ.

Jimmie graduated from Villisca High School in 1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy's Seabees from March 1943, to November 1945. He married Virginia MacLean in Chicago, May 11, 1945. Jimmie retired from Western Electric Co. in 1979, after 38 years of service. A 33rd Degree Master Mason, he joined the Masonic Fraternity in Villa Park, Illinois in 1956 and held many Masonic offices after moving to Arizona in 1960. These included Master of Builders Lodge No 60 in 1966, Charter Master and Master of Nelson C. Bledsoe Lodge No 74 in 1976 and 1977, and Grand Master of the State of Arizona in 1989. He married Doris J. Anderson January 26, 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia (5/1/01), grandson, Sgt. Bryan E. Hicks (2000), 4 brothers; Marion, Leonard, Barton and Milton Jr. (Buddy) and 6 sisters; Bessie Johnson, Ruby Acquirre, Stella Brewer, Leona Anderson, Eleanor Parker and Julie Johnson.

He is survived by his loving family: wife, Doris; daughters, Ginger (Thomas) Cullen, Pamela (Richard) Carvalho and Andrea Johnson; grandson, Sean and Patrick Cullen, great-grandchildren, Nathan and Rebecca Hicks and stepchildren, Alynne (John) Wells, Karen (Steve) Meyer, Jeanne (Michael) Grant and Kenneth (Dennese) Anderson; as well as numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

COTY ALLEN DAVIDSON

Funeral services for Coty A. Davidson, age 15, of Stanton, Iowa will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the Stanton Community High School with Reverend Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Coty passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Coty Allen Davidson was born February 11, 1991, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, the son of Jimmie and Pam (McChesney) Davidson. The family moved to the Stanton Community in 1993. Coty was a sophomore at the Stanton High School where he was involved in Football, Basketball, Baseball, Bowling, FCCLA, and always enjoyed spending time with his friends and his family. Coty never missed a College World Series game and loved to collect baseball cards. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Texas Longhorns. Coty was very proud of his 1971 Ford Mustang and was looking forward to getting his license very soon.

Coty was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jonathan and Glennis McChesney.

Survivors include his parents: Jimmie and Pam Davidson of Stanton, Iowa; sister: Tiffany McChesney of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandmother: Edna Lantz and husband Steve of Stanton, Iowa; grandfather: Robert Allen Davidson of Austin, Texas; uncles: Jonathan McChesney and wife Nicole of Somers, Iowa; Kim Lee Davidson of Austin, Texas; Timmy Davidson of Austin, Texas; and Davey Davidson of Austin, Texas; many cousins including: Anna, Ellie, Holley, and Makayla; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
