Harold Kelderman
OSKALOOSA -- Harold Laverne Kelderman, 80, of Oskaloosa, died April 3, 2003, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1922, in Oskaloosa near Lake Keomah to Gerarda (Huge) and Peter T. Kelderman. He married Elsie Marie Brink Feb. 12, 1947.
His childhood was spent in Highland, Ind., and Lansing, Ill. He graduated from Munster Christian Grade and Thornton Fractional High Schools. His first job was with Federal Electric in Chicago. While working at Ottumwa Iron Works as a machinist, in 1943, he was drafted into the Army. He was discharged as a sergeant from the parachute infantry. He then worked at Iowa Valve as a metal pattern maker, and farmed for one year near Lacey. He operated a building contracting business in Oskaloosa. He also served 10 years as manager of the Sears Roebuck catalog office. He graduated from William Penn College and went on to serve as principal of the Randolph Christian School in Wisconsin and then as industrial technology instructor at Indian Hills Community College and Evans Jr. High in Ottumwa. He went on to enjoy 25 years as a real estate broker and state certified appraiser. He also taught evening classes in real estate and appraising at Indian Hills Community college. He served as mayor of Oskaloosa from 1990-1994. He went on to reunite hundreds of bios and adoptees with his private investigative agency. He was active in his church, the Jaycees, the DAV, the Board of Realtors, the Kiwanis Club and the Civil Air Patrol.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Nancy of Knoxville and Mary of Madison, Wis.; two sons, Daniel Kelderman of Oskaloosa and Harold "Dennis" Kelderman of Wichita, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers; Melvin Kelderman of Oskaloosa, Herman Kelderman and Lawrence Kelderman of Des Moines; two sisters, Viola Groenenboom of Ottumwa and Helen White of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Richard.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church. A family prayer service will be held in the fellowship hall at 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery
in Oskaloosa.
Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and continue through today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to The Back to God Hour and The Oskaloosa Christian School.
Jerry Wray Johnson
OSKALOOSA -- Jerry Wray Johnson, 58, of Gladstone, Mo., died July 25, 2002, at Veterans Affairs Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a long illness.
He was born July 26, 1943, in Des Moines to Wray and Edith Brewer Johnson.
He was raised in Sioux City and was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. He attended Morningside College, Sioux City, and received a bachelor's degree in foreign language in 1966 from Iowa State University. He received a master's degree in 1969 from the American Graduate School of International Management, Glendale, Ariz. He was an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve, with two years active service aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga before retirement. He was in the Naval Reserve in Kansas City, Mo., and Sioux City. He had been employed by Schering Plough Corp., Memphis, Tenn.; First National Bank, Kansas City, Mo.; Snelling and Snelling Inc. and Appreciated Advertising, both in Kansas City, Mo.; and Wilcox and Follett Educational Services Publishing Co. in the Midwest and Southwest.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Cemetery , with military honors by the American Legion and the VFW.
Visitation will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa, with burial at Forest Cemetery.

Ione Hoyt
OSKALOOSA -- Ione Hoyt, 97, of Oskaloosa, died Jan. 30, 2003, at Pleasant Park Estates, Oskaloosa.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa.
May Houghland
BLOOMFIELD -- Lyrla May Hougland, 88, of Bloomfield, died Dec. 21, 2002, at Bloomfield Care Center, Bloomfield.
She was born June 7, 1914, at Scotland County Mo., to Marquis Eddy and Thressa A. Hornor Hougland.
She was a bookkeeper for a cement company at Chillicothe, Mo. for several years. She had been a resident of Bloomfield, since 1980. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Bloomfield.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church,
Bloomfield, Pastor Steve Houser officiating. Burial will be at Barker Cemetery , Scotland County, Mo.
Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the family present from noon to 1 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Bloomfield.

Charles Hem
OTTUMWA -- Charles E. Hem, 78, of Ottumwa died July 31, 2002, at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital, Knoxville.
He was born March 19, 1924, in Ottumwa to Fred and Margarete Edna Hartley Hem. He married Rosa Baugher July 12, 1943, in Ottumwa.
He worked for Sears, Universal Rundle and retired from the Good Samaritan Center. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Life Member of the Walter B. Schafer Post 775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he and his wife were King and Queen of the Loyalty Day Parade. He was a volunteer for SIEDA and the SHARE Food Program. He was also a recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Award.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Larry of Davenport and Richard of Agency; two daughters, Ellen Brammann of Sunbury, and Charlene Brandenburg of High Ridge, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Darvin Hemm of Yucaipa, Calif., James "Bob" Hem of Ottumwa and Royce of Hartford; and three sisters, Florence Holden of Bonaparte, Margaret Nutter of Ottumwa and Eldonna Graham of Moulton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
Services will be 10 a.m. today (Friday) at Alexander-Johnson Funeral Chapel with Major Sandra Line officiating. Burial will be in the Iowaville Cemetery
with military rites by the Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion.
Visitation was 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Larry, Richard, Bill and Bobby Hem, Bradley Badure and Rick Brandenburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Salvation Army.
Marsha Hanshaw
FAIRFIELD -- Marsha Sue Hanshaw, 65, of Fairfield died at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2002, at the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield.
She was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Fairfield to Robert T. and Helen Battin Angstead.
She was a lifetime resident of Fairfield. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1955. She had worked as a secretary for Jefferson County Public Health until retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fairfield, and the Jefferson County Hospice.
Surviving are her two sons, Greg Hanshaw of Fairfield and Scott Hanshaw of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and her parents.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles "Tony" Angstead; and one sister, Carla Angstead Cupp.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Wotherspoon officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery , Fairfield.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield.
A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church, Fairfield.

Edward "Ed" Hanneman
FAIRFIELD -- Edward "Ed" Carl Hanneman, 86, of Fairfield died at 3:50 a.m. Dec. 6, 2002, at Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield.
He was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Fort Madison to Edward Carl and Zelma Leavitt Hanneman. He married Connie Consbrock June 30, 1940, in Fort Madison.
He attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had worked for the Chrysler Corp., Dodge Division, for over 25 years. He moved to Fairfield after retiring. He had been treasurer and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, member of the Fairfield County Club, Public Health Advisory Board, Past Lions Club Member, Abracadabra Club, and McDonald's Coffee Club, Fairfield.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Stephanie H. Isakson of Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Isgrig.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield, with the Rev. Jan Burns-Hintze officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Hillcrest Cemetery , Fort Madison.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield, with the family present.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church.
Donna Hamilton
OTTUMWA -- Donna Hamilton, 53, of 1130 Thornton, Bogart, Ga., formerly of Ottumwa, died Aug. 1, 2002, at her home.

Margaret Gray
OTTUMWA -- Margaret Regina Gray, 94, formerly of 616 W. Mary St., died at 6:46 p.m. Sept. 26, 2002, at the Manor House Care Center, Sigourney.
She was born Oct. 8, 1907, in Adams County near Corning to Frank and Ellen Krebsbach Miller. She married Lewis Willard Gray March 4, 1935. He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1989.
A resident of Ottumwa for over 70 years, she was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and had been a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital, Knoxville.
Surviving are a son, Lewis Walsh Gray of Roswell, Ga.; two daughters, Regina Ann Garvey of Moose Lake, Minn., and Rose Marie Schwab of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Clara Douglas, Mary Bolin Thompson, Helena Blair Long, Ethel Hartsock, Irene Webster and Rolene Jacobs Tadlock.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Gray, Chris Garvey, Jeff and Jerry Barnett, Pat Garvey, John Barnett and Gregg Garvey.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Altar and Rosary Society.
