Maxine Louise Weigel
May 26, 1916 - May 25, 2006

-Interment: North Walker Cemetery , rural Burlington, Iowa

Maxine Louise Weigel, 89, of Burlington, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis.

Born May 26, 1916 on a farm near Danville, she was the son of Zed and Minnie Walker Ward. On December 25, 1938 she married Milton H. Weigel in West Burlington. He died September 16, 1993.

Maxine and her husband farmed all their married life north of Burlington on a farm they bought, where her grandmother was born.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Lydia Group and a former member of the church choir. Prior to this, she was a long-time member of Latty United Church of Christ before the church was closed. She attended Golden Oldies and Singles group. Maxine was the last original member of the “Harmonnaires” dance band, from the Steamboat Senior Citizen Center, where she played the drums.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean (Richard) Smith of Burlington; granddaughter, Renee (Joel) Fynquist of Burlington; grandson, Scott (Amy) Smith of Moline, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Dylan Fynquist, Kya Kimsey, Rosi Kimsey, Spencer Smith, and Parker Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband; parents; two sisters, Bernice Setterberg and one in infancy; and one brother, Ralph Ward, preceded her in death.

Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 29th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Weigel will be Tuesday, May 30th, at 1:30 p.m. in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment will be in North Walker Cemetery , rural Burlington.

Memorials have been established for First Christian Church, Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab and Burlington Steamboat Seniors’ Center.

Ronald Weiler
July 30, 1947 - December 10, 2005

-Services: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 10:00 AM
Following the services, Mr. Weiler's body was cremated

Ronald Lee Weiler, 58, of Fort Madison, formerly of Burlington, died at 3:05 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born July 30, 1947, in Centerville, he was the son of Edward and Margery Mullin Weiler. On May 7, 1977, he married Barbara Smith in Burlington.

Mr. Weiler worked at Hope Haven and for Winegard Co. in Burlington.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. He enjoyed photography, nature, fishing and science fiction movies.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith of Fort Madison; mother, Margery Weiler of Burlington; and three sisters, Sharon Melton of Mapel Hills, Kansas, Doreen (Ron) Chaney of Burlington, and Mary (Evan) Bachtell of West Burlington.

His father and two sisters, Charlotte and Charleen preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established.

John Russell Weir
September 23, 1984 - September 8, 2007

John Russell Weir, 22, of Burlington, died on Saturday, September 8, 2007 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on September 23, 1984 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Russell L. Weir and Florence Petty.

John was a roofer working for various roofing companies in the Burlington area.

He attended Burlington High School and was of the Christian faith.

John was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an archer, earning a trip to the World Championship in Archery two years in a row. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and Ted Nugent’s World Bow Hunters Association. His overall passion was spending time with his children.

Survivors include his fiancée, Carrie R. Reusch of Burlington; his father, Russell Weir of Burlington; his mother, Florence Petty of Fort Madison; two sons, Thomas Weir and Spencer Weir both at home; three half brothers, Mike Nuss of Burlington, Cody Bierman and Andrew Rogers both of Tucson, Arizona; one half sister, Christina Weir of Nashville, Tennessee; two uncles, Dallas (Peggy) Balzer of Wever, and David (Nicole) Balzer of Culver, PA; one aunt, Barb Balzer of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

Robert L. Welsh, Jr.
December 4, 1940 - September 28, 2005

-Services: Monday, October 3, 2005 at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel
-Cemetery: Monday, October 3, 2005 in Aspen Grove Cemetery

Robert Lee Welsh, Jr., 64, of Burlington died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center.

Born December 4, 1940, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert Lee and Helen Blank Welsh, Sr.

Mr. Welsh was an electrician for 4-M.

He attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He enjoyed walking, gardening and working with his hands, especially remodeling homes and building patios. He also enjoyed standing on the corner and waving to traffic.

Survivors include son, Mitchell Welsh of Gaffney, South Carolina; daughter, Mindy Schmeiser-Larken of Burlington; daughter, Tami Jacobs of Burlington; son, Robert Welsh III of Texas; two step sons, Jack Kindig of Oquawka, Illinois and Tom Kindig of St. Patrick, Missouri; one step daughter, Sharon Boyd of Naples, Florida; eight grandchildren, Chad Welsh, Patrick Welsh, Christopher Welsh, Aileen Welsh, James Jacobs, Jordann Jacobs, Chase Jacobs and Bryce Welsh; six step grandchildren, Derek Kindig, Dylan Kindig, Nicole Kindig, Zackary Boyd, Katherine Boyd, Jacob Boyd; two brothers, Ronald Welsh and Steven Welsh, both of Rockford, Illinois; and special friend, Millie Lipper of Burlington.

His parents preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for Iowa Lions Eye Bank, Iowa City.

Lois Ilene Gerling Westerbeck
June 30, 1940 - April 24, 2006

Lois Ilene Gerling Westerbeck, 65, of Burlington died on April 24, 2006 at her home.

Born June 30, 1940 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Inghram Gerling. She was previously married to Larry Westerbeck.

Ms. Westerbeck was a housekeeper and started working with her mother at Lincolnville Motel for 17 years, then Super 8 Motel for 8 years and currently at Burlington Care Center for the past 12 years. She also was a carrier for the Hawk Eye for the past four years.

She was of the Christian faith and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, garage saleing, and her cats, Dusty and Sassy. She collected mushroom paraphernalia.

Survivors include, two sons, Leon (Tami) Westerbeck of Tucson, Arizona and Lamoyne (Melissa) Westerbeck of Burlington; one daughter, Tiffany Holmes of Burlington; two grandchildren, Corey Westerbeck of Burlington and Arin Westerbeck of West Burlington; two great grandchildren, Jarah Westerbeck and Caden Westerbeck; two sisters, Norma Johns and Marge (Steve) Haden both of Burlington; and five brothers, Duane (Robin) Gerling, Harold (Linda) Gerling, Gerald (Joan) Gerling, Loran (Kathy) Gerling and Keith (Theresa) Gerling all of Burlington.

Her parents; grandson, Ryan; two sisters, Virginia and Georgia; and two brothers Richard and Sidney preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established.

Lester Herman Whetstone
October 15, 1937 - November 9, 2006

Lester Herman Whetstone, 69, of Burlington, Iowa died Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.

Born October 15, 1937 in Kewanee, Illinois, he was the son of John F. and Ella Ouart Whetstone. On December 31, 1973 he married Susan Baden.

Mr. Whetstone was a US Navy Career Veteran, serving for 21 years and retiring as Chief Petty Officer, he later worked at Burlington Northern Railroad until October 15, 1999.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW and the Corvair Connection, with his passion being his 1964 Corvair. He was well known for his sense of humor and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Whetstone, of Burlington; three daughters, Suzanne Rice of Atlanta, Georgia, Julie Whetstone of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dawn Whetstone of Burlington; two sons, Jon Whetstone of Norfolk, Virginia, and Mark Whetstone of Gainsville, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and a brother Raymond Whetstone of Kewanee, Illinois.

His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.

Carl F. Wiegard
January 28, 1925- May 23, 2006

- Funeral Service: Friday, May 26th, in Lunning Chapel

-Interment: Burlington Memorial Park. The Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts
10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League and the AMVETS Post 29 will conduct Military Rites.

Carl F. Wiegard, 81, of rural Burlington died at 3:32 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.

Born January 28, 1925 in Sperry, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Kroll Wiegard. On October 20, 1946 he married Wilma Reinecke in Burlington.

Mr. Wiegard was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 41st Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre. He was a farmer and still actively participated in farming.

He was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 10102 and Hawkeye Natives, collected Indian artifacts and other activities. He enjoyed farming with his sons and interaction with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Wiegard of rural Burlington; three sons, Jon (Connie) Wiegard of Ottumwa, Alan (Laine) Wiegard of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Gary (Joann) Wiegard of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Shelley, Karissa, January, Jason, and Shannon; four great grandchildren, Jonnessa, Drew, Klay, and Kade; two step grandchildren, Jamee and Josh; and two step great grandchildren Emily and James; one brother, Herbert (Mary) Wiegard of Burlington; and one sister Marjorie (Jim) Schnicker of North Carolina.

A memorial has been established for Kingston United Methodist Church.

Harold "Bob" Norman Wolfe
January 3, 1928 - December 2, 2005

-Services: Monday, December 5, 2005 2:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Cemetery: Long Creek Cemetery , rural Danville, IA

Harold “Bob” Norman Wolfe, 77, of Danville, and formerly of New London died at 2:50 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2005, at his residence.

Born January 3, 1928 in New London, he was the son of Fern and Cecile Courter Wolfe. On June 30, 1951 he married Dorothy Chestnut at Grace Methodist Church in Burlington.

He was a 1947 graduate of Burlington High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Wolfe was an electrician for Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years retiring in 1987 and farmed at rural New London from 1958 to 1993.

He was a member of New London United Methodist Church where he also served as an usher and on the Trustee Board. He was the treasurer of I.B.E.W. Local 452 and enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, auctions, sports and spending time with family – especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wolfe of Danville; three daughters, Roberta (Wesley) Pfadenhauer of Danville, Rebecca Hoyt of Middletown, and Kathy McClelland of Corpus Christi, Texas; one son, Robert (Shawn) Wolfe of Alma, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two brothers, John Wolfe of Sperry and Jerry Wolfe of Burlington.

His Parents, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established for New London United Methodist Church and Hospice of Central Iowa.
