James Slutts
FAIRFIELD - James E. Slutts, 57, of Silvis, Ill., died May 3, 2002.
He was born March 27, 1945, in Fairfield to Robert Glenn and Virginia May Slutts. He married Virginia Ann Rupe Dec. 26, 1964.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Teri Dhooge of Marion and Jenny Mauritz of Wausau, Wis.; five grandchildren; his mother of Muscatine; and brothers, Robert Slutts of Muscatine, John Slutts of Wapello, and Gary Slutts of Rantoul, Ill.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, in Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, Ill. Interment will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to University of Iowa Hospitals - Orthopedic Oncology.
Mary Salts
ELDON - Mary Salts, 88, of Eldon died May 4, 2002, at the NeIson Nursing Home, Fairfield.
She was born July 22, 1913, in Birmingham to Silas and Veda Mathias Ehret. She married Stanley Salts Sept. 17, 1949, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Cook, of Libertyville.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the McCleary Cemetery , east of Batavia, with Mr. Ricky Fiedler officiating.
Arrangements: Kremer Funeral Home, Eldon.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Memorials maybe directed to the family.
Keith Katzartones
OTTUMWA - Keith E. "Skeeter" Katzartones, 71, of 308 Burrhus, died at 1:05 p.m. April 27, 2002, at the home of his daughter, Colleen Dickinson.
He was born April 14, 1931, in Ottumwa to Peter and Lucille Wyatt Katzartones. He married Patricia Mier June 25, 1951. He later married Mary Roberts Sept. 7, 1991.
Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Colleen Dickinson, LuAnn Quinn and Karen Howard, all of Ottumwa, Lisa Katzartones of Eldon and Kathleen Findley of Kellogg; two step-sons, John Roberts of Ottumwa and Don Roberts of West Burlington; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ben Dragoo of Galesburg, Ill., and Larry Dragoo of Missouri.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. today, Tuesday, in Reece Funeral Home with a Christian Wake at 7 p.m., followed by family visitation until 9 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Lynn Dickinson, Tabatha Quinn, Derek Katzartones, Dana Katzartones, Amanda Baumgartner and Brian Katzartones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Howard, Barry and Bradley Houk, Tre Allman, Dakota Quinn, Zachariah Dickinson and Nicholaus Dickinson.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Inc., St. Patrick Catholic Church or American Diabetes Association.
Ellen Booe
ELDON - Ellen Fisher Booe, 75, of Danville, Ill., died at 6:41 a.m. April 23, 2002, at her residence.
She was born July 2, 1926, in Eldon to Jesse and Emma Enloe Fisher.
Surviving are two sons, Danny and Sammy Swisher, both of Danville; a daughter, Connie Morris of Danville; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Glenn Fisher of Danville, Darrell, Carl, Frank and Albert Fisher, all of Iowa; and a sister, Jewell Taft of Iowa.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Friday, April 26, at Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Chapel, Danville, Ill., with the Rev. Kenneth Young officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday.

Leona Howe
OTTUMWA - Leona 0. Howe, 85, of 910 W. Second died April 21, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
She was born March 9, 1917, in Monroe County to Herbert and Luetta Williams Carter. She married Earl M. Howe May 16, 1937, in Albia. He preceded her in death March 30, 1990.
Surviving are two sons, Dick of Ankeny and Dean of Solon; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Carter of Urbandale and Herschel Carter of Seattle, Wash.; and a sister, Reva Evans of Centerville.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, in Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery , Albia.
Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, in the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
A memorial has been established to First Christian Church.
Sue Smith
OTTUMWA - Elizabeth Jane ³Sue\ Smith, 88, formerly of 2046 Mable St., died April 9, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Unionville, Mo., to James and Emma Hill Johnson. She married Raymond James Smith July 1, 1933, in Livonia, Mo. He died Aug. 26, 1967.
Surviving are four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nellie Scriven of Rockton, Ill.
The service will be 6 p.m. today, Thursday, April 11, at Reece Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rose Cemetery , Graysville, Mo.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today with the family present after the service until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Center.
Helen Nichols
OTTUMWA - Helen K. Nichols, 79, of 541 S. Lillian died at 8:04 p.m. March 20, 2002, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born June 4, 1922, to Jay H. and Kate Hale Brower in Minneapolis, Minn. She married Lewis B. Nichols Jan. 21, 1950.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Ken of Janesville, Wis., Jay of Plattsmouth, Neb., Craig of Green Bay, Wis.; a daughter, Sharon Bonner of Maui, Hawaii; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her twin brother, Hale Brower of Fircrest, Wash.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 25, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Masten officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Sunday in Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Sharon Bonner, Ken, Jay, Craig, Austin and Matthew Nichols.
Honorary pallbearer will be Tom Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Choir or Heartland Humane Society.
Fay Paxston
MORAVIA - The graveside memorial service for Fay Paxston will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Hillcrest Cemetery
in Moravia, the Rev. Terry Chapman officiating.
A luncheon is being provided for family and friends after the service at the Moravia Community Center.
Gilbert-Nordstrom is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia McDaniels
OTTUMWA - Virginia I. McDaniels, 73, died March 18, 2002, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Cloyd of Ottumwa.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Wallace Funeral Home in Newton. Cremation will follow the services. Burial will be at a later date in Palo Alto Cemetery.
William Hansen
FAIRFIELD - William W. Hansen, 79, of Naperville, Ill., formerly of Fairfield, died March 20, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday, March 23, in Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, Ill., followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. by Bishop Joseph L. Imesch in the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus. Private family interment will follow.
Memorials in his memory may be made to the Diocesan Education Foundation, George Werden Buck Boys and Girls Club and/or Joliet Area Community Hospice.
