Kathryn Leila (Callaway) Wonders, 88, of West Burlington, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun.
Born February 12, 1918 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Milford Filmore and Nora Mae Bolick Callaway. On July 18, 1937 she married Ray Anderson Wonders in Walnut Street Church in Burlington. He died December 30, 2000.

Mrs. Wonders grew up in Mediapolis where she attended school. She was a homemaker and also worked at Sylvania Plant, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Campbell Chain and owned and operated Kate’s Café in Mediapolis. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed friendship, family, Bingo, bowling, crocheting and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Keith Wonders and Dennis Wonders both of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Bryan Wonders, Tara Weatherly, David Wonders, Michael Wonders, Jason Wonders, Kaitlyn Wonders and Skylar Wonders; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband; grandson, Randy Wonders; parents; two brothers, Sylvester Callaway and Raymond Callaway; and two sisters, Flossie Honson and Daisy Collenbaugh preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established for Mediapolis First Baptist Church.

April 11, 1934 - October 15, 2006

David L. Wondra, 72, of Mediapolis, Iowa died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006, at his home.

Born April 11, 1934 in Campbellsport, Wisconsin, he was the son of Herman and Mary Theisen Wondra. On October 31, 1959 he married Patricia Burnett in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burlington. She died August 8, 1996. On January 4, 1997 he married Phyllis Oberman in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville, Iowa.

Mr. Wondra was a 1952 graduate of Campbellsport High School and was an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany and then was recalled to active duty for one year.

Mr. Wondra was a professional baseball player for four years after high school. He then worked as a postal worker, starting on the postal train between Burlington and Minneapolis, then as a clerk in the Burlington Post Office, retiring in 1990 after 30 years of service.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville and Hend-Co Hills Golf Club. In his younger years he played in the Burlington slow pitch baseball league. He later became an avid golfer and golf ball collector, enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a loyal Cubs fan all his life. He also loved his Texas winter home.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Wondra of Mediapolis; three daughters, Pam (Robin) Womack and Sandy (Roger) Weber both of Danville, Iowa and Sherry (Mike) Hall of West Burlington; two step sons, Michael (Beth) Oberman of Queen City, Missouri and Kevin Oberman of West Burlington; one step daughter, Debra Oberman of Burlington; five grandchildren, Erica Prier, Brian Womack, Chris Weber, Sarah Weber and Jessica Copeland; three great grandchildren, Kaeleigh, Morgan and Andrew Prier; three step grandchildren, April Bartlett, Tony Oberman, and Whitney Oberman; three sisters, Petronella (Pete) Kaiser and Bernadette (Ben) Hankes both of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and Yvonne (Oliver) Kuen of Hilbert, Wisconsin; two brothers, Herman (Geri) Wondra of Campbellsport and Andrew (Maryann) Wondra of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, his parents, four sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

Milford "Jack" Max Wooldridge

Milford “Jack” Max Wooldridge, 83, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Burlington Care Center.

Born November 25, 1924 in Gulfport, Illinois, he was the son of Orville and Nellie Hazel Root Wooldridge. On January 12, 1952 he married Esther Mathilda Schilb in Washington. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2002.

Mr. Wooldridge was a graduate of Colchester High School in Colchester, Illinois. He owned and operated Wooldridge Trucking and Construction Company for over fifty years. He was a World War II Army veteran. He attended Golden Oldies. He enjoyed going to Catfish Bend Casino, playing blackjack and spending the winters in Arizona.

Survivors include, one son, Ronald (Alice) Wooldridge of Burlington; three granddaughters, Leigha Wooldridge, Joanna (Tony) Scott and Cathy (Andy) Krieger; five great-grandchildren, Blake, Kelsay, Seth and Preston Broeker and Erin Clark; three brothers, Richard Wooldridge of Phoenix, Arizona, Tom Wooldridge of Texas and Glenn Wooldridge of Burlington

His parents, wife, son Steven, brothers Eugene, Lawrence and Bernard and sister Margaret preceded him in death.

David Arthur Wunnenberg
October 7, 1952 - April 18, 2007

-Friends May Call: Sunday, April 22nd, 9:00 AM until noon in Lunning Chapel
-Family Visitation: Sunday, April 22nd, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
-Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, April 23rd, at 10:30 AM in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
Reverend Father Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate.
A time of fellowship and lunch will be at the Memorial Auditorium Main Floor immediately following the Mass of Christian Burial
According to his wishes, the body of Mr. Wunnenberg will be cremated following the Mass of Christian Burial
Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Kingston, Iowa at a later date In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Twin to Twin Transfusion

David Arthur Wunnenberg, 54, of Bluff Harbor Marina, Burlington, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Bluff Harbor Marina in Burlington, Iowa.

Born October 7, 1952 in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur and Joan Fullenkamp Wunnenberg. On December 26, 1970, he married Renée Heckenberg in Burlington.

Mr. Wunnenberg was a graduate of Mediapolis High School, received his associates degree at Southeast Community College, and FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia Session 163 in 1990.

Mr. Wunnenberg joined the Burlington Police Department February 1, 1975 and served for 33 years. He began his career in the Patrol Division, Motorcycle Officer from 1979 until 1981, and Criminal Investigation until late 1983. He was appointed Departmental Rangemaster in 1983, Patrol Lieutenant in October 1987, Criminal Investigation Commander (Captain) in 1991, Deputy Chief August 1, 1992 and Chief of Police November 16, 1998. He also was the manager of Bluff Harbor Marina.

He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church, Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Police Officers, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Iowa Police Executive Forum and Flint River Bow Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Burlington/West Burlington Area United Way and Chairperson of Law Enforcement Career Scholarship Fund. He enjoyed the outdoors, bow hunting and had a true passion for the Canadian wilderness.

Mr. Wunnenberg was an Army Veteran serving with the Military Police.

Survivors include his wife, Renée Wunnenberg of Burlington; four daughters, Mecca (Chad) Riley of Burlington, Carrie (Doug) Brokaw of Gardner, Kansas, Therese (Carl) Haemer of Saegertown, Pennsylvania and Shayla (Chris) Minard of Willard, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Ali, Grant and Jack Riley, Nicholas and Jacob Brokaw, and Peyton Minard; his parents, Arthur and Joan Wunnenberg of Mediapolis; one sister, Deanne (David) Keefer of Huntington Beach, California; and one brother, Doug (Elaine) Wunnenberg of Burlington.

His brother, Darrin Wunnenberg, and his grandparents preceded him in death.

Erma Nadine Young
July 17, 1928 - December 27, 2005

Mrs. Erma Nadine Young, 77, of River Hills Village, Keokuk, formerly of Burlington, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born July 17, 1928 in Rochester, Minnesota, she was the daughter of George and Clara Bath Clark. On Nov. 16, 1947 she married Adam J. Young in Warsaw, Ill. He died on Apr. 20, 1980.

Mrs. Young was a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Warsaw High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burlington. She also was a member of the Burlington Golf Club and active in the chamber.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Rasmussen of Lake of the Ozarks, MO.; one granddaughter, Shana Kropp of Monterey, CA.; and one grandson, Trey Kropp of Big Sur, CA.

She was preceded by her parents and her husband.

Memorials have been established for the Parkinson Foundation and Alzheimer’s Association.

Mark F. "Mike" Zaiser
July 6, 1923 - January 21, 2006

Mark F. “Mike” Zaiser, 82, of Burlington, died at 1:45 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

He was born on July 6, 1923 in Burlington, the son of George J. and Nettie S. Fladt Zaiser Sr. He was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. “Mike” served in the United States Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He was a member of the Army Infantry in the Philippine Islands and in New Guinea. On September 27, 1947 he married Ingeborg Kalkbrenner at St. Paul’s UCC in West Burlington.

“Mike” was a 30-year Veteran of the Burlington Fire Department. He served as Fire Chief for 9 years from 1969 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Burlington City Council from 1982 until 1990. He was a member of St. Paul’s UCC in West Burlington, where he was past president of the St. Paul’s UCC Council and a council elder. He was an active member of Kiwanis for 27 years where he was an attendance taker for the Organization. “Mike” played baseball in high school and also played semi pro baseball for the Labor Temple. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and was a Civil War buff.

He is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Zaiser of Burlington; two daughters, Victoria (Dusty) Thye and Annette Vincent, both of Burlington; two sons, Michael (Renee) Zaiser of Burlington and Danny (Dawn) Zaiser of New London. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

His parents, one brother, and one sister preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for the Burlington Ambulance Advancement Fund or the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.

Mary L. Ziegelmeyer

January 25, 1920 - December 4, 2005

Mary LaVon Ziegelmeyer, 85, of Burlington died at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Danville Care Center.

Born January 25, 1920, in Austin, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Jack and Jennie DeWitt Donahue.

Mrs. Ziegelmeyer worked in production for IRC-TRW.

She was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed listening to music, reading and putting jigsaw puzzles together.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Hill and Betty Lou Couch, both of Newton; one daughter-in-law, Karen Ziegelmeyer of Burlington; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Her husband, two sons, parents, brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established.

Mary D. Scott

The funeral service for Mrs. Mary D. Scott, 49, who died Thursday, September 25, 2003, will be Thursday, October 2nd, at 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate. Friends may call after 8:00 AM on Wednesday, October 1st, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM. A memorial has been established for Farm Aid.

Carolyn J. Schneider

The funeral service for Mrs. Carolyn JoAnn Schneider, 66, who died Thursday, September 25, 2003, will be Tuesday, September 30th, at 10:30 AM in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bishop Ned Hunger will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery . Friends may call after noon today, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.

JAMES SCHOLER

Memorial Mass for James O. Scholer, 76, of Naples, Florida, will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. Reverend Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate. Private Family Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with full military rites being conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Marine Corps League. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday morning from 8:30 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association. Friends may call after 8:00 A.M. today.

EARL LAVERNE ADAIR

Memorial Service for Earl Laverne Adair, 87, of Burlington, who died Sunday, will be held at Prugh's Chapel today at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Charles Stevens will officiate. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . A memorial has been established for the Trinity Lutheran Church and Great River Hospice.
