Ray Cole

Ray Cole, 90, of Newton died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Park Centre in Newton.

Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in rural Newton.

The family will greet friends with a lunch following the service at the church. Memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

The son of Frank and Barbara Ann (Woods) Cole, he was born June 9, 1916, in Granby, Mo., and was a graduate of Granby High School. Ray married E. Lucille Cross on July 10, 1938, in Pineville, Mo. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. A resident of Newton since 1950, he was the manager of the appliance department for Montgomery Ward in Newton. Ray was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and American Legion Post 111.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lucille of Newton; daughter, Connie (Duane) Venenga of rural Grinnell; and granddaughter, Dana (John) Harper of Earlham.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a child in infancy, three brothers and four sisters.

Imo Dell Wilson

GRINNELL — Imo Dell Wilson, 90, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A private family service will be Saturday morning at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Dave Van Dalen of Newton officiating.

Pallbearers will be Sandy Faust, Phil, Greg and Trenton Wilson, Jana Cooper, Laura Peters and Dawnell Larsen. Honorary bearers will be Jason, Jeff and Anna Faust, Max, Shane, Cooper, Megan, Kayla, Emma Grace and Jack Wilson, Reagan and Madison Cooper, Andy and Mike Peters, Raymond Gruhn and Keith Paulson. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in rural Jasper County.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association.

The daughter of Arthur and Alice Garrett McCaslen, she was born May 3, 1916, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. She lived in several communities in the area and later was a graduate of Kellogg High School.

On Oct. 7, 1934, she was married to James Paul Wilson, in Grinnell. The couple farmed near Newton and Kellogg before settling on their farm east of Rock Creek Lake. They retired to Grinnell in 1970 and moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in 2000.

She was a former member of the Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Leon Wilson of Grinnell, Clair Wilson of Newton and Kathryn Larsen of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; one sister, Elsie Neighbors; and one granddaughter, Valerie Terry.

Patricia A. Skiles

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — Patricia Ann Skiles, 66, of Marco Island, Fla., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at Hospice in Naples with her loving husband, sons and dear friends at her bedside.

Patty was born April 14, 1940, in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School. She was a secretary at Maytag Company for 40 years, retiring in 1999. She moved to Marco Island in 2003.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Gary; sons, Todd Bishop of Carson City, Nev., and Toby (Lisa) Bishop of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Denise (Angel) Torres of Jacksonville, Fla., and Shelly Moore of Newton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her brothers, Bob Brayton of Newton and Don Brayton of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews and very special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Marie Brayton; brother, Harold Brayton; and infant daughter, Teresa Marie Bishop.

Celebrations of Patty's life, remembering her favorite phrase "Enjoying All Of God's Gifts Of Life" will be scheduled in the near future in Marco Island, Fla., and in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Naples — Marco Island- Immokalee, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105, or American Cancer Society, 917 North Collier Boulevard, Marco Island, FL 34145.

Ronald P. Guffey

DANVILLE — Ronald Paul Guffey, 69, of Danville, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral service was held Feb. 3 at Danville United Methodist Church in Danville with the Rev. Robert Patton officiating. Burial was at Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville. Lunning Chapel in Burlington handled arrangements.

Max M. Hedlund

Max M. Hedlund died Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2007, at Heritage Health Care in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Michael "Mike" Hackathorn

Michael "Mike" Hackathorn, 29, of Newton died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. The family will greet friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials in Mike's name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Kathy (Morgan) Hackathorn, he was born Feb. 25, 1977, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1996. On Feb. 14, 1999, he married Amy Lester in Newton. He was a stay-at-home dad and enjoyed motorcross, video games and staying at home with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Hackathorn of Newton; three daughters, Chelsie, Megan and Ashley Hackathorn; his mother, Kathy Hackathorn of Newton; his grandmother, Gieula Morgan of Newton; two brothers, Ryan Hackathorn and his fiancé, Andrea Vatcky of Naples, Fla., and Adam Hackathorn of Newton; a nephew, Aidyn Hackathorn; and a niece, Ryanne Hackathorn.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Morgan.

Jessie Batton

Jessie Batton, 62, of Baxter died today, Feb. 26, 2007, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center.

Services are pending at Pence-Reese Funeral Home.

Josephine D. Renaud

PELLA — Josephine Dena Renaud, 90, of Pella died Saturday Feb. 24, 2007, at Pella Regional Health Center — Long Term Care Unit in Pella.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Burial will be at Chester Cemetery near Sully. Visitation will be all day Wednesday at the funeral home.

Earl Klein

Earl Klein, 77, of Newton died today, Feb. 27, 2007, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Services are pending at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton.

Florencee B. Templeton Miller Hughes

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Florence Belle Templeton Miller Hughes, 97, formerly of Vandalia died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at the Lakeview Manor in Indianapolis, Ind.

A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Vandalia Church of Christ with burial following at Vandalia Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Church of Christ. Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

Harold Vander Hart

Washington — Harold Vander Hart, 85, of Washington died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in Washington.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Pella. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Lawrence W. Tysseling

Lawrence W. Tysseling, 86, of Newton passed away Friday morning, Nov. 19, 2010, at his home at Park Centre in Newton.

A time of celebration and visitation with the family will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, Dec. 8, in the Garden Room at Park Centre. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Roger A. Heglund

Roger A. Heglund, 55, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at his home in Ankeny.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Ankeny Funeral Home.

Gene V. Ratcliff

Gene V. Ratcliff, 89, of Grinnell, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in Grinnell.

No services are scheduled. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton is handling the arrangements.

Gene is survived by two daughters, Tyaria Ratcliff of Newton and Kathy (Sam) Stoaks of Grinnell; a son, Mike (Linda) Ratcliff of Newton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Collum of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry D. Lamb

Larry D. Lamb, 71, of Colfax died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.

Funeral services are pending at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Jeffrey A. Plumb

Jeffrey “Jeff” A. Plumb, 51, of West Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Newton, died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at his brother’s home in Newton.

Services are pending at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
