Pauline Leffler

Pauline Grace Leffler, 88, of Burlington died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at her daughter's home.

Born Jan. 5, 1916, in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of Tracy and Nellie Faye Funk Beere. She married Walter E. Leffler; they later divorced.

Mrs. Leffler worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant in Middletown and F.W. Woolworth's. She was involved in farming her entire life.

She was a graduate of Danville High School and attended Burlington Business College. She was interested in genealogy and was an avid reader of history, especially early history of Burlington. She enjoyed working in her yard, going to yard sales and pigeon shows.

Survivors include one son, Terry Leffler of Des Moines; one daughter, Patty Thompson of Danville; five grandchildren; and 11 great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

There will be no visitation or service. The body has been cremated.

Memorials have been established for Old Stone Church and Burlington Public Library.

Marguerite Wachutka

Marguerite E. Wachutka, 89, of Burlington Care Center, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the care center.

Born Oct. 26, 1913, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Paul and Lessie Huston Bult. On Dec. 30, 1931, she married Roy Wachutka in West Burlington. He died Oct. 14, 1987.

Mrs. Wachutka owned the Lincolnville Cafe and Wachutka Catering with her husband. They also catered at Champion Spark Plug noon and night. She worked for Kreske's, Schramm's and Smig.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in West Burlington. She enjoyed bowling and fishing and loved to sew and crochet. She also baked her famous pies at the Lincolnville Cafe.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty Patton of Glendale, Calif., and Arlene Ferguson of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, great–nieces and great–nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to the time of service Friday at Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Wachutka will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for St. Paul's United Church of Christ and Burlington Care Center's activity fund.

Wilma Stanley

Wilma Stanley, 81, of Hillsboro, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

Born Nov. 30, 1922, in rural Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Andrew and Elnora Thomson Daub. On Feb. 14, 1942, she married Charles Junior Stanley in Kahoka, Mo. He died Feb. 16, 1995.

Mrs. Stanley was a school cook at Harmony School for 15 years, and she was a homemaker.

She was a 1940 graduate of Fairfield High School. She was a member of Hillsboro Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star No. 515 — Hillsboro and Stockport Chapter, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Alpha Club. She was a past member of Hillsboro Cemetery Board.

Survivors include one son, Dwight Stanley of Hillsboro; three daughters, Edythe Frantz of Iowa City, and Marlene Wilson and Roberta Shimon, both of Moberly, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great–grandchildren; two brothers, Leland Andrew Daub of Oregon and Robert Daub of Marshalltown; and two sisters, Louise Dubois of Winfield and Erma Stansberry of Birmingham.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The funeral service for Mrs. Stanley will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro Christian Church, with the Rev. David Callen officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Memorials have been established for Hillsboro Cemetery Association and Hillsboro Christian Church.

Miranda Jarvis

Miranda Lynn Jarvis, 29, of Blanchard, formerly of Donnellson, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at her home.

Born March 11, 1974, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Scott B. and Jeanette L. Kramer Jarvis. On June 10, 1995, she married Craig Huebner in Fort Madison.

Ms. Jarvis was a counselor.

She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and the outdoors.

Survivors include one son, Tylor Huebner at home; her parents of Donnellson; two sisters, Alexandria Holtkamp of West Point and Tisha Jarvis of Donnellson; one brother, Jacob Jarvis of Donnellson; former husband of Fort Madison; paternal grandparents, James R. and Pat Jarvis of Burlington, Lavelle and Berdita Hibbs of New London and Irene Helm of Donnellson; her great–grandmother, Florence McChesney of Phoenix; special friend, T.J. Horn; one niece; one nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Jarvis will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson, with the Rev. Judy Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson. A memorial service will be in Clarinda at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

Mildred McNamee

Mildred E. McNamee, 94, of West Burlington, formerly of Mediapolis, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born April 11, 1910, near Kingston, she was the daughter of James and Hattie Tee Stapleton. On Feb. 20, 1941, she married Dale McNamee in Dodgeville. He died June 3, 1987.

Mrs. McNamee worked at IRC in Burlington. She retired in 1975.

She was a member of Ss. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, Alter and Rosary Society and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. She was a former Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include one daughter, Rosie Jackson of Burlington; two grandchildren; one great–granddaughter and two stepgreat–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and two sisters.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited following visitation.

The funeral service for Mrs. McNamee will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, with the Rev. Jonathan Niehaus and the Rev. Mark Niehaus officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Kingston.

Memorials have been established for Mediapolis Ambulance Service and Ss. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.

Pauline White

Pauline Fay White, 93, of Donnellson Health Center, died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the health center.

Born July 8, 1911, in Halls Station, Mo., she was the daughter of Joseph and Alice Whalen Ebling. On Feb. 14, 1934, she married Martin E. White in Topeka, Kan. He died in July 1984.

Mrs. White was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie L. Petry of Keokuk; one son, Royce D. White of Montrose; 10 grandchildren; several great–grandchildren; and one sister, Maxcine Banks of White Cloud, Kan.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sons, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. White will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at King–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jay Zetterlund officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Donnellson Health Center.

Shirley Mitchell

Shirley Ann Stokes Mitchell, 61, of Burlington, formerly of Monmouth, Ill., died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at her home.

Born May 20, 1941, in Monmouth, she was the daughter of Joseph Andrew Connors and Margaret Florence Rose Witt.

Ms. Mitchell was a waitress, nurse's aide and homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra Witt of Steamboat Rock, Pamela Turner of Burlington and Carol Graves of West Burlington; 11 grandchildren; seven great–grandchildren; two brothers, Allen Payne of Mount Pleasant and Carl Payne of Burlington; and two sisters, Margie McNeeley and Linda Stokes, both of Galesburg, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, two great–grandchildren and one sister.

Visitation will begin after noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

There will be no funeral service. The body of Ms. Mitchell will be cremated.

Sharon Browne

Sharon Browne, 48, of Menno, S.D., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Freeman Medical Center in Freeman, S.D.

Born April 21, 1956, in Houghton, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Doris Hellweg Meirotto.

Ms. Browne worked the last several years as a registered nurse at Menno–Olivet Care Center in Menno.

She was a graduate of Marquette High School and later moved to Yankton. She worked full time and was a 1998 graduate of Mount Marty College in Yankton with a bachelor of science degree. She loved doing a variety of crafts and sewing and loved horses.

Survivors include three daughters, Melanie and Becky of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Christy of Menno; her father and stepmother, Gilbert and Roberta Meirotto of Houghton; one sister, Barb Hoover of Elk Grove, Calif.; three brothers, Ken of Cabool, Mo., Wayne of Mount Pleasant and Dale of Newman, Ga.; and her fiancé, George Cokens of Menno.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

The funeral for Ms. Browne was Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church in Menno, with the Rev. Brad Danielson officiating. Burial was in Menno Cemetery.

Lynn Bycroft

R. Lynn Bycroft, 51, of Monmouth, Ill., formerly of Roseville, Ill., died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at his residence.

Born May 24, 1953, in Monmouth, he was the son of Roy and Imogene Smith Bycroft.

Mr. Bycroft owned and operated B & K Clothing Store in Roseville for many years. He also worked at Bagley Sales and Service and Adkisson Auction Service, both in Roseville.

He was raised and educated in Point Pleasant and Roseville schools. He was a 1971 graduate of Roseville High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University and Carl Sandburg College. He was director of the Department of Human Services in Warren and Henderson counties. He was a member of Roseville Masonic Lodge 519 A.F. and A.M. and Monmouth Christian Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, deacon, elder, Men's Steadfast Quartet member and worship team member.

Survivors include his parents of Roseville; one sister, Gloria Thurman of Monmouth; two nephews; one great–nephew and two great nieces.

He was preceded in death by one niece.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Corman Memorial Home in Roseville.

The funeral service for Mr. Bycroft will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Monmouth Christian Church, with the Rev. Jim Epperson officiating. Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Monmouth Christian Church Worship Team and Sunday School Department.
