Estel B. Elm, 74,
Webster City
Estel B. Elm, 74, Webster City, died at his residence on Thursday, July 12, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Bullock-Tiffany officiating. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday and prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.
Estel Bernard Elm, son of Oscar and Mamie Severson Elm, was born April 27, 1927 in Webster City, Iowa. He attended Fremont School #7 and graduated from Webster City High School in 1944. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. On February 20, 1949 he married Betty Power in the Washington Lutheran Church, Duncombe. They farmed in Fremont Township for 40 years. The couple moved to Webster City in November of 1988.
Mr. Elm is survived by his wife, Betty; sons and daughters-in-law, David B. and Valorie "Jo" Elm, Iowa Falls, Dale A. and Jodi K. Elm, Blairsburg, Paul B. Elm of Webster City; daughter and son-in-law, Sally J. and Rodney L. Bernard, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Lisa M. Elm, Iowa Falls, Matthew L. and Meribeth L. Bernard, Clear Lake, Kristin S., Austin S., and Emily J. Elm, Blairsburg; brother, LuVerne D. Elm, Webster City, and sister-in-law, Mildred Elm, Webster City. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother John E. Elm.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City, where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Church Council for a number of years. Mr. Elm was a member of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau and taught welding in night school through a Farm Bureau program. He was also a 4-H Club leader for many years

Viola F. Crosby, 81
Webster City
Viola F. Crosby passed away Thursday at the age of 81 from renal failure at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be held at Asbury Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday. Remains will then be cremated and laid to rest at the Graceland Cemetery at a later date.
Viola, daughter of Orin and Erma (Foster) Short, was born on her parents farm in Cass Township on August 5, 1919. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1936. Prior to her marriage, Viola worked as a cashier at the local J.C. Penny. She later did bookwork for the Iowa Farm Business Association, and served many terms as the Webster Township clerk.
On Feb. 23, 1940 Viola married Owen S. Crosby. The couple built their life and family farming south of Webster City. Viola played an active role in the day-to-day operations of the farm where the couple has lived since that day, and where Owen will continue to reside.
Viola taught Sunday school for 25 years and participated in a variety of other church committees and activities. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, baking, walking, chatting with her neighborhood club and raising her family. She is survived by her husband, Owen, their three children and spouses: Gene and Susan Crosby of Urbandale, Iowa; Lon and Ann Crosby of Webster City, Iowa; Sandra and Gary Frazer of St. Joseph, Mo and five grandchildren: Melinda Crosby Currans, Brian and Teresa Crosby and Kevin and Ryan Frazer.
She is also survived by sisters Leila Wemhoff of Moberly, Mo; Shirley Wangler of Urbandale, Iowa; Phyllis Richardson of Webster City, Iowa and brothers Gary Short of Independence, Iowa; and Robert Short of Billings, Mt.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Estle Short and an infant who died at birth, sister Vesta Lowish and grandson Eric Frazer.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Asbury Methodist Church.

Gladys L. Young, 97, Stratford
Gladys L. Young, 97, Stratford, died Monday, July 30, 2001 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Stratford with Rev. Dave Fernlund officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Stratford. Visitation will be at the church from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service time on Wednesday.

Joyce LaRue DeWinter, 73, Hubbard
Joyce DeWinter, 73, Hubbard, died of congestive heart failure on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Graveside services were held Sunday at Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard. Boeke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mabel I. Cavaiani, 81, Wadena
Mabel I. Cavaiani, 81, Wadena, died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union after a long illness. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Volga United Methodist Church in Volga. with Rev. Carroll Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, Iowa, and for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery in Dumont at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for the Volga United Methodist Church.
Mabel Irene Sniffin was born on Sept. 12, 1919 at Manly, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Ida Hall Sniffin. Mabel graduated from Kamrar High School at Kamrar and then from Iowa State University at Ames in 1940 with a bachelor of science degree in foods and nutrition. She married Charles C. Cavaiani on Charles C. Cavaiani on April 14, 1950 at Chicago, Illinois. Mabel managed two restaurants in Chicago for 20 years. She was a retired federal employee and was the author of 14 cookbooks. She was a dietary consultant at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point for 12 years. Mabel was a member of the Volga United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Association of University Women and the American Dietetic Association.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Charles Vincent Cavaiani and sister, Shirley Sniffin.

Cynthia Clasen Brandt, 44, Fox Park, Wyo.
Cynthia Clasen Brandt, 44, Fox Park, Wyo., died July 21, 2001 as result of an automobile accident. Funeral services were held July 25, 2001 in Fox Park with Rev. Rhett Ivey officiating. Private cremation services were held in Fox Park.
Cindy Brandt, daughter of Norm and Ruth Clasen, was born in Eldordo, Ks., May 25, 1957. She moved with her family in 1966 to Webster City. She was a 1975 graduate of WCHS. She also attended ICCC. She married Marvin Brandt on April 8, 1990 and the couple lived in Fox Park.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Marvin, parents, Norm and Ruth Clasen, Webster City; brother, Craig and Lisa Clasen, Columbus, Ne., sister Cheryl and David Munn, Lincoln, NE., nieces, Samantha Munn and Jamee Clasen, nephews, Chase and Jordan Clasen, grandparents, Vonda Herder and Gabriele Clasen, Yates Center, Ks.
Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City or Animal Care Center Pet cemetery fund, PO Box 299, Laramie, Wyo., 82073.

Coni Griffin, 34, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Coni Griffin, 34, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, July 27, 2001 as the result of an auto accident. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Richmond, Mo. She married Jack Griffin in Webster City June 10, 2000.

Gerald M. Twedt
Gerald M. Twedt, 86, of Ellsworth, died of cancer Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Michael Herschberger to officiate. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Friends may visit Friday at the church until service time. A memorial fund has been established for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Gerald M. Twedt was born Oct. 18, 1915 near Ellsworth, to Gilbert and Sadie (Thompson) Twedt. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church near Radcliffe. Gerald farmed near Ellsworth until his retirement. Throughout the years, he was involved in the Ellsworth community. He served on a variety of Boards of Directors, including the Ellsworth-Williams Co-op, the Ellsworth Telephone Association, the Ellsworth Community Club, the Ellsworth Turkey Producers, and the Homewood Cemetery Association. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Gerald was a great supporter of young people and enjoyed attending school events.
Gerald is survived by two sisters, Beryle Thoreson of Ellsworth and Betty McClain of Story City; a brother Don Twedt and wife, Jeanne of Atteboro Falls, Massachusetts; a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Ennis McClain and Curtis Thoreson.

Euphrosenia Noel
Euphrosenia Noel, 87, DeWitt, Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt with Father Robert Harness officiating the Mass. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at Nelson Heesch Funeral Homes, DeWitt, with a Rosary being said at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Noel died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at DeWitt Community Hospital.
She was born March 31, 1914 in Springbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Monner) Yoerger. She married Edmond Noel on Feb. 5, 1934 in Springbrook, Iowa.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary Society in DeWitt.
Survivors include her husband Edmond J. Noel; sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil Noel, Edmond and Mary Noel, all of Wheatland, Robert and Julie Noel, Davenport; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Ray Wiese, Lowden, Nancy and Duane Berry, Davenport; and Sandy and Daniel Huber, Webster City; a sister Armella Kilburg, Delmer, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and seven brothers.

Mildred Mesik Lamer
Mildred Mesik Lamer, 79, Eagle Grove, a former resident of Webster City, died Tuesday at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home, Webster City, with Pastor Harley Johnson officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.
Mildred F. Dishman, daughter of Claude and Ethel Mann Dishman, was born December 4, 1921, at Iowa Falls, Iowa. On April 4, 1969, she married Claude Lamer at Papillion, NE. The couple lived in Battle Creek, MI., retiring in 1987 and moving to Webster City. In the mid 1990s, the couple moved to Eagle Grove.
Survivors are her two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Patricia Mesik Jr., of Blue Springs, MO., Alan and Suzan Mesik of Cottage Grove, OR,; daughter Becky Jo Mesik Black and her husband, Thearon “Butch” Black of Battle Creek, MI.; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sisters Bernice Coates of Wisconsin and Betty Terry of Eagle Grove.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Mesik, who died in July of 1965; brothers, Robert and Claude Dishman; sisters, Florence Latch and Evelyn Wiley.

Wayne M. Passwaters
Wayne M. Passwaters, 92, West Des Moines, formerly of Webster City, died March 28, 2002 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. The body was cremated. Burial was in Chapel Hill Gardens.
He was born in Webster City and lived here 65 years. Prior to retiring, he was a service engineer for Electrolux. He lived in Urbandale for 18 years. Survivors are his wife, Helen, West Des Moines, son Jack of Grand Rapids, Mich, daughter Lainys MacGruder, Grand Junction, Colo.; sisters Francis Osbo and Dorothy McCollough, Webster City; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

John Alan Lindsey
John Alan Lindsey of Iowa City, 52, died at University Hospital on March 11, 2002 following a massive stroke. He had been waiting for a heart transplant. There was novisitation and the body was cremated. John had arranged for his organs to be donated. His cremains were buried at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given in his name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born March 19, 1949 in Iowa City to John E. and Beverly Bringolf Lindsey. He attended Iowa City Schools and graduated from City High in 1967. He received a scholarship to the University of Iowa College of Art and later attended Kirkwood Community College in Business Administration. He worked as assistant service manager at Winebrenner/Dreusicke Ford and then moved to Park Rapids, Minn., where he managed a video store. After a major heart attack in 1988, he moved back to Iowa City and had been under the care of the cardiology and transplant departments at University Hospitals.
John was an Eagle Scout, member of the Order of the Arrow, and had received the God and Country award. He served as ssistant Scout Master for Troop 203 until hi move to Minnesota. He was an artist, musician, an avid reader of history and loved fishing and boating.
Survivors are his mother; two brothers, Edward and wife Mary of rural Wellman; Charles of Chicago; special family friend, Zeke Yusof of Long Island, New York; two aunts, Mrs. Barbara Powell of Kin George, Va., and Mrs. Dorothy Nead of Manchester, Iowa; several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and twin brothers.
