Maureen Gremanis

ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Maureen J. Gremanis, Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Gremanis died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Rock Island. She and her husband owned and operated many businesses in the Quad-Cities area, including The American Cafe, Silvis, Ill., and The Biltmore Restaurant, Moline. She also owned and operated the Scottsdale Fabric House in both Scottsdale, Ariz., and Moline. Maureen Huff was born July 16, 1910, in Shelbing, Mo. She married James Gremanis in 1929 in Muscatine, Iowa. He died in 1981. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include daughters, Mary Jacobson and Diana Gremanis, both of Rock Island; a son, N. James, Rock Island; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Elna Carpenter, East Moline.

Sister Cecile Bredar

ROCK ISLAND -- Sister Cecile Marie Bredar, OSF, a resident of Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Ill., formerly of Rock Island, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the home. Services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, preceded by visitation from 2 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday in the Resurrection Cemetery , Joliet. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements. Sister Cecile Marie taught, piano, organ and voice and was stationed at St. Mary's Catholic School, Rock Island. She taught music and played the organ for the church choir at St. Mary's and had taught at various schools in Illinois and Ohio. She was born, Sept. 7, 1906, in Rock Island. She entered the Congregation of the Third Order of St. Francis of Immaculate Mary in 1927 and professed her final vows in 1932. Memorials may be made to the Congregation of the Third Order of St. Francis of Immaculate Mary, Joliet. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Arlene Kling

MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Arlene J. Kling, Lot 77 Woodland Park, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Arlene died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She worked 38 years at Albert Dockterman & Sons, Rock Island. She was a secretary and bookkeeper. She also was a clerk and treasurer for the Village of Oak Grove for 11 years and a village trustee for eight years. Arlene was born March 20, 1926, in Rock Island, to Edward E. and Edith M. (Stassen) Nowack. She married Glenn L. Kling on Jan. 29, 1966, in Nashua, Iowa. She married William R. Wardlow on Aug. 15, 1946. She was a member of Women of the Moose, Rock Island and American Association of Retired Persons. She loved animals and nature and enjoyed traveling. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her husband, Glenn; sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne R. Wardlow and Michael E. and Jamie Wardlow, all of Milan; stepchildren, Dennis and Dale Kling, Milan, Michael Kling, Fort Worth, Texas, Ronald Kling, Las Vegas, and Martin and Joyce Kling, Davenport; a stepdaughter, Darlene Vigil, Albuquerque, N.M., seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Shirley Stigers, Milan, and Donna Smith, Altona, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Nowack.

Wilma Winters

EAST MOLINE -- Graveside services for Wilma J. Winters, East Moline, will be Tuesday at Walnut Grove Cemetery , Worthington, Ohio. No local services will be held. Wilma died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, in charge of arrangements. She was employed 15 years as a secretary at Rock Island Arsenal and retired in 1975. Wilma Billingsley was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of John H. and Ruth W. McCord Billingsley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert Young Mental Health Center, Rock Island. Survivors include a daughter, Margi Winters, Hartford, Conn.; sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim "Kim" and Mary Winters, Bettendorf, and Kipp Winters, Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren, Sarah and Matt Heinemann and Jacob, Adam, Ellen and Lorin Winters; and a special friend, Jerry McMillin, East Moline.

Rachel Calsyn

EAST MOLINE -- Services for Rachel G. Calsyn, East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Geneseo, Ill. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Calsyn died Friday, March 30, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Rock Island, the daughter of Emil and Louise (Balliu) Hauman. She married Archie DeClerck on Jan. 17, 1936. He died April 18, 1937. She married Marcel Calsyn on April 30, 1955, in Rapids City, Ill. He died Aug. 6, 1981. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing cards. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association. Survivors include sons, Arthur DeClerck, Rock Island, and August Calsyn, Davenport; stepdaughters, Alice Lopez, Geneseo, and Carol Denny, Port Byron, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bob Hauman, Moline, Tom Hauman, Rock Island, and Ed Hauman, Moline. Rachel was preceded in death by sisters, Rosella and Madeline, and a brother, Desire "Jim."

Helen Thiessen

CLINTON, Iowa -- Helen G. Thiessen, Strawberry Point, formerly of Clinton, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Manchester Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, with a vigil at 3 p.m. She worked many years at Muffy's Mens Store, Lyons. Helen Reynolds was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Petersville. She married Stanley Thiessen in 1933 in Goose Lake. He died in 1984. Survivors include daughters, Winnafred Holmes, Elkader, and Patricia Millea, Bowling Green, Ky.; sons, Gary, South Weymouth, Mass., Terry, Winthrop, and Emmett, Lockport, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Roy Sanderson

CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Roy A. Sanderson, of 2389 Dunham St., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, with a vigil at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Anderson died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City, He was employed as a journeyman boilermaker at Clinton Corn Processing Co. He retired in 1979 after 28 years there. After retirement, he worked at Clinton Country Club. He was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Clinton. During the Korean War, he served in the Army. Survivors include daughters, Linda and Nancy Sanderson, both of Clinton; sons, Lennie, Clinton, and Michael, Orange County, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and his mother, Veronica Sanderson, and sisters, Jeannette Hopkins and Barbara Flood, both of Clinton.

John Callahan

CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for John W. Callahan, Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery , Clinton, with military rites conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Lemke Funeral Home, Clinton, with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Mr. Callahan died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. He retired in 1995 after 36 years as an insurance agent with State Farm. He was born March 22, 1931, in Masonville. He married Dolores Doyle in 1954 in Independence. Mr. Callahan served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Survivors include his wife, Dolores; daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Heck, Omaha, Neb., Mary Carlson, Minnetonka, Minn., Noreen Johnson, Clinton, Denise Callahan, Freemont, Calif., and Andrea Cox, Phoenix; sons, Terrence, Clinton, and Philip, St. Louis; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Anne Kehrli, Ryan, Iowa; and a brother, Chuck, DeWitt.

Eldin Gravert

DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Eldin J. Gravert, DeWitt, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , DeWitt, with military rites conducted by the DeWitt American Legion Post 238. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Mr. Gravert died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home. He retired as a carpenter with Local 772, Clinton. He was born April 1, 1927, in DeWitt. He married Betty Chandler in 1951 in Nashua. Mr. Gravert served in the Army during World War II. Memorials may be made to Grace Camp sleeping cabin or the family. Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Jeff, Dewitt; and sisters, Frances Hinkle and Marilyn Gravert, both of Eldridge.

Sherryl Lomsdalen

MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Sherryl Lomsdalen, Maquoketa, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , DeWitt. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Mrs. Lomsdalen died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Sherryl Hankemeier was born Feb. 13, 1946, in Maquoketa. She married Robert Lomsdalen in 1966 in Preston. Survivors include her husband, Robert; a daughter, Sarah Carter, Enterprise, Ala.; sons, Douglas, Montgomery, Ala., and Darin, Eugene, Ore.; five grandchildren; her mother, Janice Hankemeier, Maquoketa; a sister, Marcia Ralston, Mechanicsville; and brothers, Marvin and Steve, both of Miles.

Carol Thomas

CHARLOTTE, Iowa -- Services for Carol E. Thomas, of 1689 330th Ave., will be 1 p.m. Monday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Thomas died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She was employed as a manager at Jack's Discount Store since it opened. She also was a manager at various convenient and food stores for several years. Carol Paysen was born April 17, 1941, in Clinton County. She married Benjamin Thomas Jr. in 1959 in Clinton. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Steven, Charlotte; brothers, Leonard Paysen, Goose Lake, and Delbert Paysen, DeWitt; and her fiancé, Ed Grajewski, Albany, Ill.
