MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Betty J. Kline, of 1246 E. Fifth St., will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Mrs. Kline died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at her home. She had worked at Louis Rich and HON Geneva Plant, operated the Family Cafe and Skynook Cafe and had worked at Muscatine Care Center. Betty Collins was born March 11, 1922, in Muscatine. She married Robert Frye and then married John "Doc" Kline. Survivors include a daughter, Jolly Jackson, Colona, Ill.; sons, Thomas Frye and Michael and Scott Kline, all of Muscatine; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Burton Collins, Muscatine, and David Collins, Osage Beach, Mo.

Henry Burzlaff

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Henry A. Burzlaff, of 922 Leroy St., will be 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Muscatine. Visitation is noon until service time. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Burzlaff died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine. Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine, is in charge of the local arrangements. He was a chemical engineer at Thatcher Plastic Packaging, Muscatine. He was born May 24, 1920, in Clinton. He married Susan Almon in 1955 in Old Hickory, Tenn. During World War II, he served as a master sergeant in the Army. He served with the 96th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater. Memorials may be made to the church or Lutheran Homes. Survivors include his wife, Susan; a daughter, Sue Schultz, and a son, Tom, both of Muscatine; and two grandchildren.

William Jennings Sr.

KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for William E. "Bill" Jennings Sr., Kewanee, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery , Kewanee, with military services by Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Jennings died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home. He retired in the late 1970s from Hyster Co., Kewanee. He was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Ness City, Kan. He married Mary Michalski in 1943 in New York City. She died in 1990. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Jennings, and a son, William E. Jr., both of Kewanee; three grandchildren; a step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Amy Winger, Dodge City, Kan., and Arva Brasel of Alabama; and a brother, John of Iowa.

Robert O'Bryant

SHEFFIELD, Ill. -- Robert S. "Bob" O'Bryant, Sheffield, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Princeton. Burial will be in Hopeland Cemetery , Buda, with military services by Sheffield American Legion. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield. Additional visitation is 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Mr. O'Bryant worked 32 years at LCN Closers, Princeton. He was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Princeton. He married Vicki Whitmore in 1979 in Sheffield. During the Vietnam War, he served in the Army. He received a Bronze Star, an Air Medal and a Purple Heart. Memorials may be made to Bob O'Bryant Memorial Fund. Survivors include his wife, Vicki; sons, Michael O'Bryant, Sheffield, Anthony Whitmore, South Orange, N.J., Brock O'Bryant, Peoria, and Jeff O'Bryant, Williamsburg, Iowa; a granddaughter; sisters, Jean DeGood and Mary Mecum, both of Buda; and brothers, Jerry, Buda, and Chuck, Cincinnati.

Robert Van Lancker

MOLINE -- Services for Robert A. Van Lancker, of Goodyear, Ariz., formerly of Moline, will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a wake at 6:45 p.m. Mr. Van Lancker died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Phoenix Regional Medical Center. He was co-owner and a pressman at Model Printers. He retired in 1984. He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Osborn, Ill. He married Mary Becker in 1943 in Atkinson, Ill. She died in 1998. Memorials may be made to Lions Club or a favorite charity. Survivors include daughters, Ellie Van Lancker, Fort Wayne, Ind., Zoe Carpenter, Goodyear, Mariette McGrath, Dillingham, Alaska, Anita Ziffren, Kailua, Kona, Hawaii, and Melissa Padesky, Moline; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Blair Varnes

CHICAGO -- Services for Blair "Barney" Varnes, of Clinton, formerly of Chicago, will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Lombard, Ill. Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery , Hillsdale, Ill. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today at Brust Funeral Home, Lombard. Mr. Varnes died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his daughter's home in Clinton. Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. He was a circuit court judge in DuPage County in Chicago. He also was employed in the state's attorney office in Cook and DuPage counties. He was born April 28, 1904, in Stoughton, Wis. He married Madeline Wardan in 1933 in Chicago. She died in 1968. Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice, Clinton. Survivors include daughters, Valerie Kruse, Clinton, and Pamela Srock, Colbert, Wash.; sons, Robert, Sheridan, Ill., and Douglas, Chicago; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Charles Furchbrich

DAVENPORT -- Services for Charles W. Furchbrich, of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery , Davenport. Mr. Furchbrich died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. He was employed as a systems accountant at Rock Island Arsenal. He was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Davenport. He married Marjorie Collins in 1965 in Davenport. During World War II, he served as a captain in the Army Air Corps. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Catherine Edens, Davenport.

Dean Matalik

MATHERVILLE, Ill. -- Services for Dean A. Matalik, of Phoenix, formerly of Matherville, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Family Funeral Services, Viola. Burial will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery , Matherville, with military services by Aledo Veterans of Foreign Wars 1571. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Matalik died Monday, April 26, 1999, in Phoenix. He was employed the past seven months as a transportation engineer at MS Carriers, Phoenix. He was born Nov. 17, 1974, in Moline. He served as a turrent mechanic in the Army from 1992 to 1996. Memorials may be made to Vera French Community Mental Health and DARE of Mercer County. Survivors include his mother, Sharon Moore, Matherville; his father and stepmother, Richard and Peggy Matalik, Davenport; a stepsister, Susan Lang, Hastings, Minn.; stepbrothers, Scott and Brian Long, both of Davenport; and grandmother, Beverly Miller, Moline, and grandmother and step-grandfather, Shirley and Ben Sproston, Aledo.

Alize Bentrott

DAVENPORT -- Services for Alize D. Bentrott-month-old son of Eleanor Bentrott, will be 1 p.m. today at Davenport Memorial Park. Alize died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. He was born Feb. 10, 1999, in Iowa City. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include grandparents, Jane and Craig Bentrott, Maquoketa, Iowa; and great-grandmother, Lowanda Engel, Davenport.

Margaret Ward

HILLSDALE, Ill. -- Margaret F. Ward, of Hillsdale, died Wednesday, April 29, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with an Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Ward had taught school at the former Hillsdale Elementary School. Margaret Fowler was born Dec. 13, 1907, in Colona. She married James "Rusty" Ward in 1929 in Lafayette. He died in 1983. Survivors include many special friends.

James Kettering

ORION, Ill. -- Services for James P. Kettering, of Orion, will be 3 p.m. Friday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery , Orion. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Kettering died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his home. He was employed as a carpenter. He retired in 1977. He was born June 28, 1916, in Orion. He married Rose Hayford in 1949 in Florida. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan Davis, Colona; a son, Alan, Racine, Wis.; and two grandchildren.
