WEST BRANCH, Iowa -- Services for Brett A. Paul, of West Branch, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery . Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Mr. Paul died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, from complications of Lyme disease. He was employed as a supervisor at Robert's Hometown Dairy for seven years. He was born Sept. 10, 1967, in Iowa City. He married Lori Davidson in 1989 in West Branch. Memorials may be made to a college fund for his children, Ashley and Jake. Survivors include his wife; his children; his parents, Donald and Ann Paul, West Branch; and brothers, Donald, Radcliff, Michael, West Branch, John, Tipton, and Kim, St. Louis.

Phyllis Raithel

ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Phyllis M. Raithel, of Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. The Rev. Kevin Cramm will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. Mrs. Raithel died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Rock Island. She was employed as a medical assistant to Dr. Kleinschmidt for numerous years until her retirement. Phyllis Crouch was born March 10, 1919, in Moline, to Rollie and Rose (Herbst) Crouch. She married Kenneth Raithel on March 9, 1941, in Rock Island. He died in August 1998. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. At the church, she was a member of the choir and bell choir, taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Ladies Society. She enjoyed the piano and had given lessons. She was a member of the Medical Assistants Association. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Steve Sullivan, Rock Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Raithel Jr. and Donna Lee Elke, Bellingham, Wash.; four grandsons; and sisters, Yolanda Meyer, Rock Island, Lela (Mrs. Elton) Iles, Saginaw, Mich., and Barbara Fritz, West Des Moines. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kathryn Boetje; and a brother, Ralston.

Leo Byrne

DAVENPORT -- Services for Leo S. "Tom" Byrne, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Mr. Byrne died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Leo Stephen "Tom" Byrne was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Muscatine County, Iowa, to William and Winifred (O'Toole) Byrne. He married Mardell Jurgens on Dec. 20, 1958, in Davenport, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Tom attended Texas A&M. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Marine Corps. He participated in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He retired in 1980 after 20 years as branch manager of Thermal Co., heating and air conditioning wholesaler, Davenport. After retirement, he was manager of the Elks Lodge and then the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the church and Elks Lodge, a past trustee and Elk of the Year in 1980-81. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus 532 and Loras General Assembly 4th Degree, Loyal Order of Moose, Iowa City I-Club, Muscatine Veterans of Foreign Wars and Dixon American Legion. Tom enjoyed life to the fullest. He cherished the time spent with his family and friends, especially the time spent with his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and a true Hawkeyes fan. Memorials may be made to Leo S. Byrne Memorial Fund. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephani and Kevin Lynch, Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Katherine Byrne, Davenport; grandchildren, Justin, Ryan and Shannon Lynch, all of Lexington; brothers, Emmet "Mick" Byrne, Muscatine; and William "Bud" Byrne and wife Laurel, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Elmer Jurgens and wife Ruth, Long Grove, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James and Robert Byrne. May they rest in peace.

Mark Bowstead

DeWITT, Iowa -- Mark A. Bowstead, of DeWitt, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , DeWitt. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a wake at 8 p.m. Mr. Bowstead farmed and was employed as a switchman for Northwestern Railroad in Clinton. He was born July 27, 1949, in Iowa City. During the Vietnam War, he served with the Navy in San Diego. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a daughter, Amy Fratzke, Ankeny; a son, Lee A., Council Bluffs; his parents, Thomas and Mary Bowstead, DeWitt; a sister, Ann Garrity, DeWitt; and brothers, Dr. Thomas III, Colma, Calif., Paul L., Salt Lake City, and David J., Bettendorf.

Agnes Weeks

KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Agnes A. Weeks, of Kewanee, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee. Visitation is 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Kewanee. Mrs. Weeks died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Kewanee Care Home. Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements. Agnes Skutnick was born Dec. 3, 1907, in Kewanee. She married Arthur Weeks in 1946 in Burlington, Iowa. He died in 1965. Memorials may be made to the church or care home. Survivors include sons, Art, Monmouth, Ill., and Tom, Neponset; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Kaczmaryn, Kewanee.

Gary Henkins

HANOVER, Ill. -- Memorial services for Gary D. "Bubba" Henkins, of Hanover, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. No visitation will be held. The body will be cremated. Mr. Henkins died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Galena-Strauss Hospital, Galena. He formerly was employed as a cook. He was born Dec. 16, 1968, in Dixon. He married Lisa Meyer in 1998 in Galena. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Vincent Ayers Jr., Elkhorn, Wis.; his parents, Marlin and Judith Robertson, Hanover; his grandparents, Robert Fisher, Tamms, and Minnie Robertson, Ramer, Tenn.; sisters, Rebecca Henkins, Galena, and Leanna Miller, Tampa, Fla.; and brothers, James Fisher, Tampa, Robert Henkins, LaSalle, Robert Robertson, Normal, and Jack Henkins, Marlin Robertson Jr. and Donald Robertson, all of Hanover.

Webster Wiley

KEWANEE, Ill. -- Webster D. "Web" Wiley, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Kewanee Hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery , Kewanee, with military services by Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Mr. Wiley worked at Meadow Gold Dairy beginning in 1948 and owned and operated the Meadow Gold Plant in Kewanee from 1966 until his retirement in 1990. He was born Nov. 23, 1923, in New Virginia, Iowa. He married Doris Johnson in 1946. During World War II, he served with the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater on Guadacanal and Midway. Memorials may be made to the church or Kewanee Park District. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Fuller, Mesa, Ariz.; sons Terry, Galesburg, and Jim, Kewanee; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nelda Button, Kewanee.

Joseph Tucker Sr.

KNOXVILLE, Ill. -- Services for Joseph B. Tucker Sr., of 404 S. Line St., formerly of Victoria, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Knoxville Cemetery . Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery , with military services by Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749, Knoxville. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. by Pacific Masonic Lodge 66 AF & AM of Knoxville. Mr. Tucker died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg. He served as chief of police for the city of Knoxville from 1950 to 1959 and was deputy sheriff in Knox County from 1959 to 1966. He also had worked at the Farm Service Elevator, Victoria, and was the animal control officer for Knox County until his retirement in 1985. He was born April 7, 1923, in Williamsfield. He married Marie Griffith in 1949 in Knoxville. During World War II, he served in the Marines Corps. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Delores McGraw, Knoxville, and Christine Tucker, LaFayette, Colo.; a son, Joseph B. Jr., Knoxville; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Lura McDonald, Burlington, Iowa, Betty Scott and Jane Halvach, both of Peoria, and Carol Swanson, Long Beach, Calif.; and brothers, Willis, Fairfield, Iowa, James, Knoxville, and Harold, Spokane, Wash.

Glenn Miller

DAVENPORT -- Services for Glenn E. Miller, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday in the Gathering Space at the church. Mr. Miller died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Manor Care, Davenport. Glenn Edward Miller was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Cordova, Ill., to Homer E. and Amelia C. (Hansen) Miller. He married Germaine J. "Gerry" Kerckhove on Jan. 3, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 1st Armored Division, 68th Armored Field Artillery. Glenn retired from Moorman Manufacturing, Quincy, Ill., as district manager for the feed company. His memberships included the American Legion, Quad-City Times Plus 60 Club and Mended Hearts Chapter 88, Davenport. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and reading. In earlier years, he was a pitcher in the Rock Island Softball Leagues. Memorials may be made to Mended Hearts Club Chapter 88 or American Heart Association. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Germaine "Gerry"; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Olga Miller, Manassas, Va., and Mark and Jamie Miller, East Moline; grandchildren, Robert Miller, Larissa Miller and Taylor Miller; a great-grandson, Robert Jared Miller; and sisters, Cathryn Tucker, Battle Ground, Wash., and Margie Winey, DeWitt, Iowa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Young. May they rest in peace.

Carina Lind

DAVENPORT -- Services for Carina Christine Lind, infant daughter of James and Angela (Kraft) Lind 1/2E. Rusholme St., will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery , Clinton. Carina Christine was stillborn Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include grandparents, Sharon Kraft, Fulton, Ill., Deborah Lind, Clinton, and Wes and Sharon Lind, Camanche, Iowa.

Harry Lefstein

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Services for Harry Lefstein, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. today at Sons of Israel Cemetery , Colorado Springs. Mr. Lefstein died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, in Colorado Springs. He was a retired retail men's clothing store owner. He was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Rock Island. He married Rivka Pemp in 1958. During World War II, he served in the Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Anna Alvey; two grandchildren; and a sister, Sally Rich.
