Dorothy Jodts

KEWANEE, Ill. -- Dorothy Jane Jodts, of 343 Rice St., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 9-10:45 a.m. Friday at Schueneman and Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Dorothy Jones was born June 9, 1926, in Kewanee. She married Marceil Jodts in 1952 in Kewanee. He died in 1970. Memorials may be made to Kewanee Humane Society. Survivors include a sister Carole Stem, Annawan; and brothers, Robert Jones, Kewanee, and Gene Jones, Depue.

Father Anthony Patik

PAPUA, New Guinea -- Father Anthony B. Patik, missionary since 1945, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at St. Michael's Retirement Center, Alexishafen, Madang Province, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held in late November. Father Patik first served in New Guinea until 1949. After that, he was appointed teacher and rector and served from 1949 to 1985 at Marburg, Australia, Seminary. He returned to New Guinea 1974 and managed several parishes before becoming vicar general and business manager, a ministry he served from 1982 to 1988. Later, he was pastor at Mugil, Madang Cathedral and Alexishafen. He was born Jan. 20, 1914, in Albia, Iowa. He entered the Society of the Divine Word after high school graduation. He was ordained in 1942. Survivors include Dan and Joe Patik and a sister, Agnes Scanlon, all of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Margaret Rourke, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; George Patik, Covina, Calif.; and Sister Claire Marie Patik, CHM, Davenport.

Virginia Edwards

DAVENPORT -- Memorial services for Virginia M. Edwards, Davenport, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Ridgecrest Village, Koning Chapel, Davenport. No visitation will be held. Mrs. Edwards died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements She taught English in Iowa high schools for 37 years, the last 27 in Bettendorf. Virginia Hoffman was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Ames, Iowa, to Milton H. and Alta (Mathews) Hoffman. Her family home was in Eldridge, Iowa. She married Forrest T. Edwards on May 29, 1942, in Williamsburg, Iowa. He died Aug. 4, 1977. She was a graduate of Grinnell College with a bachelor of arts degree and the University of Iowa with a master of arts degree. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eldridge, and Retired Teachers Association, national, state and local. Memorials may be made to Eldridge United Methodist Church Development Fund or Shriners Hospital for Children. Survivors include friends, Dale W. Hendricks and Alison S. McCrary, Davenport. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Milton H. "Bud" Hoffman, in 1969. "And gladly did (she) learn and gladly teach"

Thomas Faber

DAVENPORT -- Services for Thomas W. Faber, Davenport, formerly of Mendota, Ill., will be 6 p.m. Monday at Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota. Visitation is 5:30 p.m. until service time. The body was cremated. Mr. Faber died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City. He had co-owned Faber Motor Co., Mendota. He owned and managed the Dodge Boys Basketball Team from 1968 to 1969. He was born June 18, 1931, in Mendota. During the Korean War, he served four years in the Navy. Memorials may be made to Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City. Survivors include a daughter, Dori Bollinger, Lacon, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Theo "Teddi" Boylan, Clwareater, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Otto Kinnemann

DAVENPORT -- Services for Otto Kinnemann, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, with military services conducted by Davenport American Legion Post 26. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Otto died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home. He was employed more than 25 years as a tool and die maker at Rock Island Arsenal. He retired in 1982. In earlier years, he worked at the former French and Hecht, Davenport. Otto was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Davenport, to Otto and Emma (Westphal) Kinnemann Sr. He married Alyce Machalek on June 21, 1944, in San Francisco. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Kinnemann was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Davenport, and also was an active member of St. Mark's bowling league. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Plus 60 Golf League. His other memberships included the Davenport American Legion Post 26, AARP and NARFE. He also was an avid fisherman and bingo player. In earlier years, he served as a Boy Scout leader and was active as a coach with both Little League and Dad's Club Baseball. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Alyce; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra "Sandi" and Brent Harris, Napa, Calif., and Linda and Rich Litt, Rapids City, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey " Jeff" and Deb Kinnemann, Bettendorf; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Nagle, Davenport, and Vera Bennett, Davenport; and a brother, Kenneth Kinnemann, Glen Ellyn, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Kinnemann, Mable Cramer and Dorothy Ziebarth; and a brother, John Kinnemann.

Norma Herring

OPHIEM, Ill. -- Memorial services for Norma J. Herring, Ophiem, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Mrs. Herring died March 23, 2000, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Margaret Smet

MOLINE -- Services for Margaret M. Smet, Moline, will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Smet died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Aspenwood Health Care Center, Silvis, Ill. She was a homemaker. Margaret Mordhorst was born Feb. 22, 1910, in Moline. She married John Smet in 1934 in Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, John; daughters, Melanie Smith, East Moline; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Mordhorst, Moline.

Judith Cullett

SILVIS, Ill. -- Services for Judith D. Cullett, Silvis, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, and one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Judith died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at her home. Judith had worked as a respiratory therapist at the former Lutheran Hospital, Moline. Judith Hines was born Nov. 27, 1941, in Brainerd, Minn., to Leonard and Myrtle (Ramey) Hines. She married Charles Cullett on Oct. 23, 1958, in Pillager, Minn. Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member. Survivors include her husband, Charles; children and their spouses, Douglas and Kathleen Cullett, Peoria, Penny and Tim Tallman, Hampton, Daniel and Elizabeth Cullett, Waukesha, Wis., and Stacy and Tim McKeon, Hayworth; 13 grandchildren; her mother, Myrtle, Brainerd; and a sister, Marsha Wermter, and brothers, Leonard Hines, Ronald Hines, Jerry Hines, Steve Hines and Kevin Hines, all of Minnesota.

James Griggs

BETTENDORF -- Services for James E. Griggs, Bettendorf, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. at the mortuary. Mr. Griggs died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home. He was employed 30 years at John Deere Plow and Planter Works. He retired in 1988. He was born April 12, 1926, in Malvern, Ark., to Fred and Julia (Elmore) Griggs. He married Louise Crenshaw in 1950. She preceded him in death. He married Bette Ramsey on Nov. 12, 1960, in Rock Island. He was a member of Early Morning Masonic Lodge 672, Bettendorf, where he was a Past Master. He also was a member of Hamilton Lodge 664, Bettendorf, and Scottish Rite, Davenport Consistory and KAABA Shrine. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife, Bette; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Fiona Lehenbauer, Caracus, Venezuela, Dr. James A. and Amelia Griggs, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Steven and Terry Lehenbauer, Fairfield, Calif., Michael and Teri Lehenbauer, Sedona, Ariz., and Scott and Bonita Griggs, Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Gerald Edwards, Poyen, Ark., and Jane and Clayton Allsbrow, Tupelo, Miss.; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Maurice Ward, Malvern, Ark.; and brothers, Carl Griggs, Malvern, and Fred Griggs, Thompson Station, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jack and Ralph Griggs.

Irene Timm

CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Irene M. Timm, of 329 6th Ave. S., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , DeWitt. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Miss Timm died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. She was born Oct. 31, 1915, in Rose Bud, S.D. She retired in 1978 as a seamstress after 40 years at Clinton Garment Co. She also had worked at Rich Toy Factory and Collis Co. Survivors include a sister, Berniece Grumstrup, Clinton.

Evelyn Swift

ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Evelyn B. Swift, a resident of Coventry Apartments, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. Don Gibson will officiate. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mrs. Swift died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Bettendorf Health Care Center. Evelyn Rodgers was born June 11, 1920, in Essex, Mo., to Pleasant Levi and Ida (Dorris) Rodgers. She loved her family. Survivors include a daughter, Shelia (Mrs. Bill) Grothusen, Bettendorf; two grandchildren, Stacey Stutzke, Galt, Ill., and Michael Grothusen, Bettendorf; a great-grandson, Nicholas Michael Grothusen, Bettendorf; a sister, Erma Cook, Swansea, Ill.; and a brother, Opal Rodgers, Dexter, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
