Floyd Fischer
Floyd Fischer, 82, of River Hills in Keokuk, formerly of Marion, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at River Hills in Keokuk.
Born Jan. 25, 1924, in Donnellson, he was the son of Fred and Amanda Fischer. On March 12, 1947, he married Betty L. Harris in Fort Madison. She died Dec. 31, 2005.
Mr. Fischer was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church. He was a World War II Air Force veteran.
Survivors include two nieces, Martha Butler of Fort Madison and Barbara Wardlow of Keokuk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister.
Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson.
The graveside service for Mr. Fischer will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Evangelical Cemetery
in Donnellson, with the Rev. Alice Hawes officiating.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
John "Jay" W. Stout
The Funeral Service for Mr. John "Jay" W. Stout, 52, will be 11:00 AM this morning in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM today at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Carol–Lee Joy Martin
The Memorial Service for Mrs. Carol–Lee Joy Martin, 56, will be 2:30 PM this afternoon in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry K. Olson officiating. As per the request of Mrs. Martin, her body has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM today. Burnell G. Hass
Burnell G. Hass of Burlington died at 10:19 PM Saturday, November 8, 2003 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born May 24, 1926 on the family farm in Mechanicsville, IA he was the son of Charles and Marie Ann Zenishek Hass. He married Theresa K. Aldrich on July 12, 1948 at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Hass was an Iowa Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1952. In 1985 he and his wife founded the Hass Funeral Home in Burlington. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving in the Medical Corp. during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. He was 1944 graduate of Springville High School in Springville, IA. He was a 1950 graduate of The College of Mortuary Science of St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church where he served on the parish council, a Eucharistic Minister and was a Designated Acolyte. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knight of Columbus Council #568, and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 579, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10102, American Legion # 52, American Association of Retired People, Optimist Club, Iowa Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association. He enjoyed gardening especially tomatoes and roses. He also enjoyed going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Burnell was a fun loving guy who loved to talk with people and occasionally tease them. The things most important in his life were his church, his family, and his work.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa; two daughters, Kathy A. Hass of Burlington and Maleia M. Thielen of Ottumwa; two sons, Michael B. (Joan) Hass of Norwalk and Kevin M. (Joyce) Hass of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Adam Thielen, Lori Haigh, Amanda Hass, and Matthew Hass; one brother, Donald C. (Betty) Hass of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Everett.
Visitation will begin after noon Tuesday, November 11, at the Hass Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends following a 7:00 PM Christian Wake Service until 9:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Hass will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 12, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
with full Military Honors rendered by the Veteran's Honor Guard of the V.F.W. Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corp League. A memorial has been established for Polysythemia Rubra Vera research .
Harold Shappell
Harold "Red" Shappell, 82, of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006 at his home. Arrangements are pending at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.
Dorothy Breuer
Dorothy Katherine Breuer, 89, of the Klein Center, went to be with her Lord Jesus on March 13, 2006. Dorothy was reunited in Heaven with her husband of 50 years, Glenn Breuer, who left this earth on June 24, 1990.
Dorothy was born on January 7, 1917, in St. Cloud,
Minnesota, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, Gustaf and Elizabeth Thaleen Linden. Dorothy graduated from Burlington High School in 1934. She married Glenn Breuer on September 3, 1938.
Dorothy worked at Carson Pirie Scott ready to wear for 10 years and became one of the first employees of Younkers when the store opened in Fairway Center where she was manager of ready to wear for over 24 years.
Her church has been at the center of Dorothy's life. She taught Sunday school to 4 and 5 year olds for over 40 years at Woodlawn Avenue Baptist and then West Avenue Baptist Church. She was the oldest and longest member of her Church for 87 years. She also sang in the choir and volunteered with Christian Women's Club. She was a regular volunteer at the Klein Center every Monday for 16 years and volunteered at the Great River Medical Center Gift Shop for 16 years.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Bill (Ethel, deceased) Breuer of Atlanta, Georgia, Judy (Robert) Faeth of Springfield, Illinois, and Karen (Gary) Timmerman and Bob (Kathy) Breuer, both of Burlington.
Dorothy is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Eric Breuer of Columbus, Ohio, Adam Breuer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Sarah Breuer of Atlanta, Georgia; Anthony Faeth of Springfield, Illinois, Robert Faeth of Boise, Idaho, and Sarah Faeth and Joy Faeth, both of Springfield; Douglas Timmerman of Parker, Colorado, Julie Timmerman Denmeade of Miami, Florida, and Kindal Timmerman Glasgow of Burlington; and Jennifer Breuer of Davenport, Christopher Breuer of Burlington and Elizabeth Breuer of Iowa City.
Dorothy is also survived by 19 great–grandchildren, Brandon, Haleigh and Cameron Breuer; Rayne and Jacob Breuer; Anthony, Christina and Joel Faeth; Rachel, Jonathan and Daniel Faeth; Elizabeth, Luke, Quentin and Max Timmerman; Megan and Zachary Denmeade; Kayla and Karli Glasgow. A younger sister, May Ann Eccles of Burlington; sisters–in–law, Leona Weaver, Bonnie Darrah and Verna Hollenrake; and many nieces and nephews survive her.
Dorothy Breuer was preceded in death by her older brothers, Vincent, August and Gordon Linden and by a sister, Siema Goble.
Friends may call at Lunning Chapel 12:00 noon to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15th, and the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in West Avenue Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 16th, at 1:00 p.m. in West Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Kirk Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be given in Dorothy's name to her beloved West Avenue Baptist Church.
Our mother made her memorial plans well in advance and wishes her passing to be a celebration of her life and the joyous reunion with her husband and her Lord.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 3:30 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at West Avenue Baptist Church.
The funeral for Mrs. Breuer will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at West Avenue Baptist Church, with the Revs. Kirk Bennett, Tyrone Henderson and Tom Faeth officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for West Avenue Baptist Church.
Frederick Garrett
Frederick H. Garrett, 77, of Burlington died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Parkview Care Center. Arrangements are pending at Prugh Funeral Service.
Kenneth Breuer
Kenneth Edward Breuer, 83, of Burlington died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at his home.
Born April 1, 1923, in Burlington, he was the son of William S. and Mabel C. Breuer. On June 27, 1942, he married Fern Elizabeth Johnson in West Burlington.
Mr. Breuer worked at J&J Steel, Wittes Paint, Murray Iron Works and was a farmer and iron worker.
He was a member St. John's United Church of Christ. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Local 577, the Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Breuer and Richard Breuer, both of Burlington; three daughters, Donna Dee Gerst of Hedrick, Cheryl Ann Cline of Burlington and Cindy Sue Fye of Sperry; one sister, Bernice Miller of Burlington; 23 grandchildren; 19 great–grandchildren; and one great–great–grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one son.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Breuer will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Church in Flint River Township, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. His body will be cremated following the service. Inurnment will be at St. John's Cemetery
at a later date.

George F. Hogan
The Graveside Committal Service and Inurnment for Mr. George Francis Hogan, 89, will be 10:00 AM this morning at Aspen Grove Cemetery
with Rev. Father Gerald E. Stouvenel officiating. A memorial has been established.
Hulda Henderson
Hulda Louise Henderson, 96, of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Burlington Care Center.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Henderson will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Church of Christ, with the Revs. George Rogerson and Kendall Adams officiating. Burial will be in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery.

for perpetual care.
Freeda Beck
Freeda Leota Beck, age 92, of Morning Sun, Iowa, died Friday morning, March 17, 2006, at the Great River Medical Center at West Burlington. The daughter of Sidney E. and May Higgins Moore, she was born January 31, 1914, at Thornburg, Iowa. She married Charles H. Beck on April 7, 1939, at Yarmouth, Iowa.
Freeda graduated from Thornburg High School and received her normal teaching training from Iowa State Teachers College. In later years she received her Bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. She was an elementary school teacher for about 31 years, teaching mostly first grade at Yarmouth and Morning Sun.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church at Morning Sun where she had been in the choir and was an elder and a member of the Coininia Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the P.E.O. at Wapello and the Louisa County Historical Society. She enjoyed birds, snowmen, and goats. Freeda loved providing a good home with cooking, gardening and music. She was always ready to go wherever Charles would go.
Survivors include her husband Charles; a son, David & Sherry Beck of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; a daughter, Kathie Beck & Stephen Barns of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Stephanie Barns, Heather Miller, and Heidi Kraut; and a sister, Joan Hotop of Washington, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dale and Hale.
The funeral ceremony for Freeda Beck will be held at 4:30 PM on Monday, March 20, 2006, at the First United Presbyterian Church at Morning Sun with Ramona Wink officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery
at Morning Sun.
The family will meet friends from 3:00 to 4:30 PM on Sunday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Morning Sun.
A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the First United Presbyterian Church Sunday School Project.
