Sherri Gerst

Sherri F. Joy Gerst, 44, of Bur–lington, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at her home.

Born March 12, 1960, in Bur–lington, she was the daughter of Forrest J. and Evelyn I. Drewer Joy.

Mrs. Gerst was a homemaker.

She was a Christian and attended Light of Life Tabernacle. She enjoyed reading the Bible, writing poetry, playing the organ and planting flowers.

Survivors include one daughter, Becky Gutzman of Burlington; two sons, Gary Gutzman of Lambertville, Mich., and Rick Berry of Raymore, Mo.; one granddaughter; one brother, James Joy of Belton, Mo.; and four sisters, Dixie Laipple of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Mary Kobus of Corpus Christi, Texas, Linda Noel of New London and Betty Jern of Oquawka, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Cha–pel, where the family will receive friends.

The funeral for Mrs. Gerst will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Adams officiating. Burial will be in Ferrell Cemetery at New London.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Margaret Bucklin

Margaret R. Bucklin, 79, of Mount Pleasant, died following a lengthy illness Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at her home.

Born Oct. 5, 1925, in Morley, she was the daughter of Lynn and Ruth Boxwell Murfield. In 1946, she married William Stroud. They later divorced. In 1955, she married Ben Jones, they, too, divorced. In 1970, she married James Bucklin in Galena, Ill.

Mrs. Bucklin was a homemaker.

She was baptized into the Methodist Church and was active in church youth activities. She was a graduate of Anamosa High School and attended Cornell College, where she majored in music. She was deeply devoted to her music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ and also liked to go dancing. She was an avid Scrabble player, enjoyed growing flowers as well as indoor and patio plants, loved animals and enjoyed a variety of collectibles. The couple lived in Anamosa, Coralville and most recently Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Lynda Toomer of Parnell, Paula Stroud and Krista Jones, both of Cedar Rapids, and Valee Hatcher of Gardnerville, Nev.; two stepsons, David Bucklin of Solon and Jack Bucklin of Jefferson; and two stepdaughters, Ann Bucklin of Los Angeles and Mary Bucklin of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren; 10 great–grandchildren; and one brother, Norman Murfield of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and one stepson.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Bucklin will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Porter officiating. Burial will be in Norwich Cemetery in Martelle.

Memorials have been established for Camp Courageous and Great River Hospice.

Betty Ertz

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Elizabeth E. "Betty" Ertz, 83, will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 11, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery . Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM today at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends following a 6:30 PM Christian Wake Service until 8:00 PM. Janis L. Haas

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Janis L. Haas, 56, will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 12, 2005, in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with the Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation will begin at noon Friday, February 11, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. Iva Riney

Iva Maxine Riney, 83, of Kahoka, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in Keokuk Area Hospital.

Locally, Mrs. Riney is survived by a son, Jimilee Riney of Burlington.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wilson Funeral Home, 975 E. Main St., Kahoka, Mo.

The funeral for Mrs. Riney will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.

Patricia Lubker

Patricia Pauline "Trisha" Lubker, 65, of Keokuk, died at 8:06 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born June 8, 1939, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Herbert and Dorothy Gredell Ricker. On Aug. 27, 1967, she married Robert Lubker at St. John's Church in Keokuk.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include her husband; one brother, Ray Ricker of Clementon, N.J.; one aunt, Ger–trude Hardy of Keokuk; nieces; nephews; great–nieces; great–nephews; great–great–nieces and great–great–nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one nephew.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Tuesday at DeJong's Funeral Home.

The funeral for Mrs. Lubker will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at DeJong's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jarett Samuels officiating. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to St. John's Episcopal Church.

Pauline Bare

Pauline Ina Bare, 90, of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Feb. 1, 1915, in Wayland, she was the daughter of Clever Henry and Effie Saloma Sharp Wittmer. On Sept. 16, 1946, she married Richard Clayton Bare. He died March 20, 1993.

Mrs. Bare worked as a clerk at the Montgomery Ward hardware department, as a cook at Pleasant Inn and as a production worker at both McCleery–Cummings Calendar Co. and a pearl button factory, all in Washington. She also worked as a clerk in the Hoaglin Department Store in Mount Pleasant. Following her marriage until 1959, she was a farm wife.

She was a 1933 graduate of Wayland High School. She and her husband made their home briefly in Ohio before establishing residence in Oregon in 1973. She returned to Mount Pleasant in 1997. She was a member of Faith Christian Outreach Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2561 of Mount Pleasant. She and her husband helped build the Assembly of God Church on South Street in Mount Pleasant. They also served as foster parents to several young people in the area. For a while, she also did laundry ironing for several people. In her spare time, she loved to raise flowers and vegetables in her gardens. She also enjoyed dabbling in oil painting.

Survivors include two sons, William of Mount Pleasant and Robert of Denton, Texas; one daughter, Bonnie Lofting of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren; and one great–granddaughter.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Bare will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant, with Pastor Monte Knudson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for Love A Child Inc.

Mildred M. Davis

The funeral service for Mrs. Mildred M. Davis, 95, who died Friday, March 4, 2005, will be Friday, March 11th, at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Revs. David Nash and Tom Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM today in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Gail M. White

The funeral service for Mrs. Gail M. White, 53, who died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, will be Saturday, March 12th, at 9:30 AM in Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Donald Hoornstra will officiate. Friends may call after noon on Friday, March 11th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Thomas O'Connor

Thomas Peter O'Connor, 72, of Prospect Heights, Ill., died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday at Hospice of the North Shore, Skokie, Ill.

Born July 2, 1932, in Springfield, Ill., he was the son of Thomas L. "Mick" and Helen Sullivan O'Connor. In 1964 he married Margaret Budinger in Springfield.

While living in Springfield, Mr. O'Connor was employed by Bunn–O–Matic, Snagamo Electric Co. and the Illinois State Lottery. Upon moving to the Chicago area, he had a long and successful career in advertising and public relations, retiring in 1996 as executive vice president of a small firm.

He graduated from Springfield High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Megan Spring of Redondo Beach, Calif.; four sons, Thomas of Plano, Texas, Michael of St. Charles, Ill., John of San Francisco, and Charles of Chicago; two grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn "Kitsie" Japsen of Burlington and Sister Maureen O'Connor, O.S.F., of Springfield, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Thomas Becket Church, 1321 Burning Bush Lane, Mount Prospect, Ill.

At his request his ashes will be spread in the River Fletch in Ballycasheen, County Kerry, Ireland.

A memorial has been established for Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of the North Shore, 2821 Central Street, Evanston, Ill. 60201.

George S. Pence

The funeral service for Mr. George Sanderson Pence, 75, who died Monday, March 13, 2006, will be today at 10:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call 8:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial has been established for Burlington Fire Department Ambulance. Charles B. Gregg

The funeral service for Mr. Charles B. Gregg, 88, who died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, will be Saturday, March 18th, at 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Mark Barker will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call noon until 5:00 PM today and after 8:00 AM on Saturday, March 18th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following Masonic Rites conducted by Patriots Lodge No. 650 AF&AM at 12:30 PM until the time of service. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Hulda L. Henderson

The funeral service for Mrs. Hulda Louise Henderson, 96, who died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, will be Monday, March 20th, at 10:30 AM in St. John's United Church of Christ, rural Burlington. The Revs. George Rogerson and Kendall Adams will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery . Friends may call after 11:00 AM Sunday, March 19th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery for perpetual care.

Max Marsden

Max Lincoln Marsden, 87, of Burlington, died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Danville Care Center.

Born Nov. 26, 1916, in Carman, Ill., he was the son of Earl Dogget and Ruth Evona Gillis Marsden. On Nov. 21, 1942, he married Mary Catherine Dietlein in Kahoka, Mo. She died March 8, 1997.

Mr. Marsden worked for Iowa Southern Utilities for 41 years, retiring as supervisor of the gas and electric department.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a former member of Harrison Avenue United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Skerik of Burlington and Marcia S. Rush of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no visitation. His body has been cremated. Friends may call at Prugh's Chapel.

The memorial service for Mr. Marsden will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Asbury United Methodist Church.
