WAYNE A. KOOIKER
Mr. Wayne Kooiker, age 50, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at his residence.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 28, at 10:30am, at the Protestant Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Steven Key will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the CHURCH. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Wayne Allen was born on February 18, 1957, at Hull, the son of William K. and Joyce K. (Mulder) Kooiker. He was raised on a farm just southwest of Hull. He graduated from the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School in Hull.
Shortly before his high school graduation, he was involved in a traffic accident, which left him severely handicapped. He continued to live with his parents on their farm until 1997, when they moved into Hull. His mother, with the help of other family members, faithfully cared for him at their home for 32 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Protestant Reformed Church.
Wayne was a gifted artist and enjoyed animals. He often smiled at the actions of his nephews and nieces.
Survivors include his mother, Joyce Kooiker, of Hull; three brothers and three sisters, Karla, and her husband, Doug Kats, of Hudson, South Dakota; Kenneth Kooiker, of Hull; Aletha, and her husband, David Groeneweg, of Rock Valley; Lyle Kooiker, and his wife, Pam, of Green Acres, Florida; Nick Kooiker, and his wife, Janet, of Hull; and Tricia, and her husband, John Driesen, of Nathrop, Colorado; twenty nephews and nieces, and ten great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, William.
Memorials will be directed to the Sioux Center CHEARS, Home Health, and Hospice.
KATE KOSTERS
Mrs. Kate Kosters, age 94, formerly of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at North Point Assisted Living in North Mankato, Minnesota.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, March 12, at 10:30am, at the American Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Steven Bierly will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Kate was born on November 18, 1912 in Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Winnie (Bonnema) Kruizenga. She was raised at Sioux Center.
On November 19, 1930, she married Henry A. Kosters in Sioux Center. They farmed at Doon and Lebanon, Iowa, Hudson, South Dakota, and then at Middleburg, Iowa. Henry passed away on January 26, 1963, at Hull.
Mrs. Kosters then moved into Hull. In July of 2004, she moved to Mankato.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church, where she assisted with church dinners. She enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, and playing cards.
Those left to cherish her memories are four children, Alvin (Lorene) Kosters of Warrington, Missouri, Wineva (Marvin) Moret of Mankato, Hendrine Daniels of Columbia, Missouri, and Dennis Kosters of Downey, California; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin (Mary) Kruizenga of Hospers; three sisters, Alice Dolieslager of Hospers, Esther Schoneveld of Chino, California, and Maryann Wiarda of Rock Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; a son-in-law, William Daniels; a granddaughter, Danielle Kosters; two great-grandsons, Michael Donahue and Cory Kosters; five brothers, Paulie, Pete, Johnny, Glenn, and Ben Kruizenga; and two sisters, Dena Van Ravenswaay and Winnie Coulander.
FRANCIS LE BLANC
Mr. Francis LeBlanc, age 69, of Alton, passed away on Thursday, June 21, at his residence.
There will be a family viewing at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Francis Peter was born on June 12, 1938, in Peabody, Massachusetts, the son of Peter and Catherine (Daly) LeBlanc. He was raised in Massachusetts, where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Air Force.
On June 13, 1983, he married Connie Alvarez in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He lived in the midwestern United States most of his adult life, moving to Alton about four years ago.
Mr. LeBlanc was in the construction industry, often working as a foreman. He was employed by S. P. F. Builders and Anco Corporation in Mason City, Midwest Livestock in Beatruce, Nebraska, and for about two years at Construction Complete, Inc., in Alton.
“Pete” enjoyed sports, especially golf.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Brianna Le Blanc; a step-son, Jason Alvarez, and two grandchildren, Gavin and Taylor Alvarez, all of Silvis, Illinois.
LUELLA RENS
Mrs. Luella Rens, age 81, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, April 27, at her residence.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, May 3, at 10:30am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Heilman and the Rev. Paul Bakker will officiate. Interment will be at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland, Michigan, on Friday, May 4. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Luella Verna was born on September 3, 1925, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry William and Lillian Gertrude (LaHuis) Pyle. She graduated from Hope College in Holland, and became a school teacher.
On August 7, 1948, she married Harold Leonard Kammeraad, in Holland. She continued to teach for a short time and then became a full-time homemaker and pastor's wife. The Rev. and Mrs. Kammeraad served several churches, including the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. He passed away on August 6, 1981, in Little Rock.
On December 26, 1990, she married Reyer L. Rens in Little Rock. They made their home at Orange City. “Roy” passed away on October 5, 1999, in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Mrs. Rens was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church. She was active in the church, including participating in Coffee Break and being an Evangelism Prayer Partner. She was also involved in Bible studies for prisoners and in THEOS. In earlier years, she gave piano lessons and accompanied singers. She was currently the organizer of the Orange City Dinner Date program, and she was a faithful visitor to shut-ins.
Survivors include three sons, William Kammeraad, of Holyoke, Massachusetts; Robert Kammeraad, and his wife, Kathleen, of Gilford, New Hampshire; and Gary Kammeraad, and his wife, Natalie, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania; a step-son and his wife, Jacob and Sharon Rens, of Boring, Oregon; five step-daughters and their husbands, Grace and Dick Thomas, of Pella, Iowa; Margaret and Bob Schelling, of Orange City; Barbara and Paul Bettes, of Sparta, Michigan; Ruth and Ned Weitgenant, of Hills, Minnesota; and Carol and Jeff De Young, of Chenango Forks, New York; a step-son-in-law, Gordon Nyhof, of Gresham, Oregon; a grandson, Joshua; seventeen step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Troast, of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Alice Van Dyke, of Wisconsin; and nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Kammeraad; a step-daughter, Brendine Nyhof; and a brother, Wendell “Bud” Pyle.
ROBERT W. REYNEN
Mr. Robert Reynen, age 61, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, April 23, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot and the Rev. Jim Daniels will officiate. Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at the CHURCH.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, at 5:00pm, at the Hollandale, Minnesota, Cemetery. There will also be visitation with the family on Wednesday, from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, at the Hollandale Reformed Church.
Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Robert Wayne Reynen was born on July 4th, 1946, to Henry Gerard and Henrietta (Draayer) Reynen. He grew up on a farm in Hollandale, Minnesota, where he also attended elementary school. He later attended Albert Lea High School in Minnesota and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, in 1968.
On August 23, 1967, he married Patricia Eloise Block in Little Rock, Iowa. They taught in Kuwait for one year and returned to Hollandale to farm with Bob's father. They had four children, and after eighteen years of marriage, Pat passed away on February 10, 1986, in Albert Lea.
On January 15, 1988, Bob married Sharon Kay Kycek in Hollandale, where Bob continued to farm as well as run his own computer business. Bob spent a total of 27 years farming and he was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church, serving on the consistory as a deacon and an elder and singing in the choir and men's quartet. Bob was also the president of the board of directors of the Hollandale Christian School. For the past six years, he lived in Orange City where he was the Director of Church Relations for Northwestern College. Most recently, Bob was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, where he served as an elder and sang in the choir.
Bob enjoyed camping, road trips, singing, woodworking, and computers. His pride and joy was his family, and he especially loved that all six of his children called him “Dad”. Most important in Bob's life was his Christian walk, which was apparent in all aspects of his life.
Survivors include Bob's wife of the past twenty years; six children, Sue, and her husband, Jack Shields, of Blaine, Minnesota; Troy Broitzman, and his girlfriend, Christine Wytaske, of Wayzata, Minnesota; Tricia, and her husband, Brian Veenendaal, of Brown Deer, Wisconsin; Shannon, and her husband, Larry Kampa, of Myrtle, Minnesota; Greg Reynen, of Singapore; and Elizabeth Reynen, of Alamosa, Colorado; eleven grandchildren, Sara, Julia, Jace, and Jackson Shields; Brett, Taylor, and Brinn Veenendaal; and Jeremiah, Shania, Faith, and Emily Kampa; his mother, of Austin, Minnesota; a brother, Dave Reynen, and his wife, Joyce, of Austin; a sister Esther and her husband, Marvin Wynia, of Maurice, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Violet Kycek, of Albert Lea; two brothers-in-law, Ron Kycek, and his wife Renee, of Deerfield, Wisconsin; and Bob Block, and his wife, Vi, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Mary Block, of Milford, Iowa.
In addition to his first wife, Bob was preceded in death by his father and his father-in-law, Leonard W. Kycek.
Memorials will be directed to Northwestern College.
JOHN I. TAYLOR
Mr. John Taylor, age 62, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at his residence.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, March 9, at 10:30am, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jay Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
John Inman was born on March 4, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, the son of John Inman and Katheryn Elizabeth (Kelsay) Taylor. He was raised in Wiggins, Mississippi, and Mexico, Missouri. He graduated from high school and later earned the equivalent of a Masters degree in electronics. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
On February 14, 1975, he married Vickie Jean Menning in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in many different places until 1980, when they settled in Creston, Iowa. Since 1993, they have made their home in Orange City.
For much of his life, he was employed by G. T. E. and Mid-America Communications.
Mr. Taylor was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.
He enjoyed model trains and airplanes, woodworking, camping, fishing, reading, and working with hot-rods.
Survivors include his wife of more than 32 years; four children and their spouses, Christopher and Beth Taylor, of Sioux City; Jason and Heidi Taylor, of Orange City; Jessica and Steve Olson, of Sioux Falls; and David and Kathy Taylor, of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Erika, Stacey, Kaleb, Kyle, Miles, Logan, and Leah, and one on-the-way; two sisters, JoAnn, of Penrose, North Carolina; and Mary, of Wiggins, Mississippi; and two brothers, Butch, of Wiggins; and Arthur, of Shreveport, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
FANNY TEN HAKEN
Mrs. Fanny Ten Haken, age 100, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 7, at 2:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Fanny was born on April 9, 1906, in rural Hull, the daughter of Dries and Fanny (Van Berkum) Van't Hul. She was raised on a farm north of Hull.
On April 14, 1924, she married John William Ten Haken at Hull. They farmed in the Hull area, where she was a homemaker. In 1960, they retired into Hull. John passed away on February 11, 1982, in Rock Valley, after more than 57 years of marriage.
In 1998, Mrs. Ten Haken became a resident of Pleasant Acres.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Homemakers and the Hull Senior Citizens, and she was a volunteer at Pleasant Acres. She enjoyed crocheting, playing games, and reading.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Vernon and Antoinette Ten Haken, of Boyden; two daughters and their husbands, Viola and Melvin Van Schepen and Darlene and Lloyd Woelber, all of Hull; seven grandchildren and eight spouses, Sandra Ten Haken and Kevin Bartholomew, Ronley and Gayle Ten Haken, Lisa and James Wheat, Arlene Van Schepen, Eldon and Lisa Van Schepen, Lynn and Robert Bruxvoort, Dean and Pat Woelber, and Jack and Sarah Woelber; fifteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Ten Haken, of Hull.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Van Schepen; a great-granddaughter, six brothers, and three sisters.
MYRON L. VANDER MEULEN
Mr. Myron Vander Meulen, age 61, of rural Orange City, passed away on Friday, June 15, in rural Schaller, in a truck accident.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, June 19, at 2:00pm, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Myron Lee was born on May 16, 1946, in Orange City, the son of Raymond and Effie (Ravestein) Vander Meulen. He was raised on a farm between Alton and Orange City. He attended the Christian School and Northwestern Academy, both in Orange City, and Western Christian High School in Hull.
On July 16, 1964, he married Peggy Lynn Goedhart in Hospers. They made their home in Orange City until 1970, when they moved to his parents' farm east of town. In 2005, after six years of planning and preparation, they moved into their “dream” log house on the east edge of their farm. Mike mostly finished their home himself.
“Mike” was employed at Phillips 66, Dutch Oven Bakery, Russell's Ready-Mix, and Sieg Auto Parts, all in Orange City. He then became part-owner of Big A Auto Parts in Hawarden. He was currently a fuel truck driver for Midwest Farmers Cooperative in Orange City.
Mr. Vander Meulen was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church. He enjoyed working with his hands, boating on Lake Okoboji, riding motorcycles, restoring old cars, and playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of more than 42 years, “Peg”; a daughter and her husband, Michelle “Shelly” and Kevin Van Peursem, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, and Devin Van Peursem; and a sister and her husband, Nelvia and Dick Vander Vegte, of Peoria, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
