Interment will be in Carman Cemetery in Carman, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until time of service on Tuesday. A Memorial has been established for Faith Lutheran Church.

Funeral Services for Mr. Frederick William Mayle, 65, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel this afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. Interment with full military rites conduced by VFW Post 10102 & 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corp League and AmVets Post 29 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . A memorial has been established.

Messmer, 84, of Burlington who died on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at his home will be held at Prugh's Chapel on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. The family will receive friends at Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for the First United Church of Christ. Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Margaret K. Erickson, 92, of Clinton, Iowa, will be held this morning in SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Gerald Stouvenel will be the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . A memorial has been established for SS Mary and Patrick Parish in West Burlington.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Albert R. Brueck, 89, of Burlington who died on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Rose Bush Gardens Health Center will be held on Monday, March 7, 2005, at St. John's Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery . Full Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AmVets Post 29. Friends may call at Prugh's Chapel today between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. On Sunday friends may call at Prugh's Chapel from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. The Rosary will be recited in St. John's Catholic Church Sunday afternoon at 3:00 P.M., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for the Burlington Catholic Schools.

Mary Hearne

Mary Frances Hearne, 88, of Fort Madison, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005, at her home.

Born April 10, 1916, in Bowling Green, Mo., she was the daughter of Joseph Carr and Della B. Glascock Cafer. On Nov. 13, 1965, she married Robert "Bob" Homer Hearne in Oquawka, Ill. He died Oct. 15, 2003.

Mrs. Hearne worked for Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison before retiring.

She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Fort Madison. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, was a Senior Volunteer of Iowa in 2002 and helped organize the Class of 1934 reunions. She enjoyed camping, fishing andembroidery.

Survivors include one son, Larry Hanger of Raritan, Ill.; three daughters, Mary Ellen Rings of Palm Bay, Fla., Charmain Slate of Tucson and Mary K. Varvel of Fort Madison; several grandchildren; 24 great–grandchildren; one great–great–grandchild; three nieces; and two nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Hearne will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be in Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery , in Fort Madison.

A memorial has been established.

Ruby Dorothy

Ruby L. Dorothy, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield. She was born June 17, 1934, at Garden Grove to Forrest Roy and Ruby Phipps Snyder. She married Richard G. Dorothy Nov. 1, 1953, in Danville. She lived in Garden Grove and Humeston, moved to Stockport as a youth, graduated from Stockport High School, attended Burlington School of Nursing, lived in Richland and Mt. Pleasant since 1995.

She worked in sales for Mr. First–Aid Co. and several years setting up Head Start programs in southeast Iowa. She was a member of Ollie Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Richard D. Dorothy and wife, Cheryl, of Ainsworth and William "Doug" Dorothy and wife, Jan, of Lowell, Ark.; two daughters, Belinda Rosenbaum of Des Moines and Donna Dorothy of Oxford; a daughter–in–law, Virginia Dorothy of Virginia Beach, Va.; 11 grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; a brother, Keith Snyder of Stockport; and two sisters, Jeri Pratt of Chillicothe, Mo., and Louise Lanam of Quarryville, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Norman "Jay" Dorothy, two brothers, Forrest and Norman "Butch" Snyder, a sister, Donna Carrico and a son–in–law, Robert Rosenbaum.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, in Ollie Baptist Church in Ollie, Pastor Connie Chatier and Rev. Charles Comfort officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial of cremains in Spencer Cemetery , Stockport. Visitation will be open at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with family present 4 to 5 p.m. Memorials have been established for Ollie Baptist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 704 S. Adams Court, Mount Pleasant, Iowa 52641.

Shasta Marshall

Shasta L. Marshall, 88, of Winfield, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield. Arrangements are pending at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield.

Olive McDowell

Olive Ellen McDowell, 102, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant. Arrangements are pending at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

Robert Merschman

Robert "Bob" G. Merschman, 80, of St. Paul died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at West Point Care Center.

Born Aug. 19, 1924, he was the son of Henry and Agnes Rauenbuehler Merschman. On Jan. 31, 1948, he married Lucille Pieper in Houghton.

Mr. Merschman owned and operated Clove Farm Grocery Store and Tavern. He later operated a feed and fertilizer business until retiring in 1986.

He was a lifetime resident of St. Paul. He was a graduate of St. John's High School in Houghton and attended Fort Madison Business College. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Sea Bees in the South Pacific. He served as city treasurer of St. Paul for 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul and was a life member of West Point Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Karen Redeker of Fairfield, Marcia Kruse of Hillsboro, Becky Wallace of Long Grove, Joan Gentry of Carrollton, Texas, and Angie Box of West Point; 17 grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; one brother, William Merschman of West Point; and two sisters, Wilma Panther of Muscatine and Martha Menke of Pilot Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one sister.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, where the family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. with a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Merschman will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, with the Rev. Gary Beckman as celebrant and the Rev. Apo Mpanda as concelebrant. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Marquette School, St. Paul Center.

Link Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Russell Harper

Russell Stanley Harper, 83, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.

Born April 7, 1922, in New London, he was the son of Stanley and Mabel Finke Harper. On May 3, 1942, he married Wyvon Marie Martin in Canton, Mo. She died Feb. 19, 2004.

Mr. Harper retired in 1983 as a machinist for the CB&Q/Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked 37 years for the railroad.

He was a 1939 graduate of New London High School. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of New London United Methodist Church, New London Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641 and United Methodist Men. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hunting for mushrooms. He and his wife donated two stained glass windows to church.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Wichhart of Rockford, Ill., and Linda Lawson of Denver; two grandsons; six great–grandchildren; and two stepgrandsons.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m.

The funeral for Mr. Harper will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established for New London United Methodist Church.

NONA MARGARET THISTLETHWAITE

Nona Margaret Thistlethwaite, 92, of Burlington died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 6, 1914, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Julius and Nona Henrietta Louise Chubb Binder. On June 20, 1946, she married Robert Thistlethwaite in Burlington. He died May 15, 2006.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1932. She was a 1935 graduate of Burlington Junior College. Nona worked as a secretary and bookkeeper with Chittenden and Eastman Office from 1934 to 1946. She worked for the City of Burlington in City Hall, in the Clerk's, Auditor's and Treasurer's offices from April 20, 1964 until November 29, 1972. In July of 1973, she went to work for Cray, Walter, Cray, Loeschen and Goddard Attorneys, retiring in September of 1977. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Nona was a good cook and was especially proud of her angel food cakes. Sewing was a favorite pasttime. She made clothing and sewed most of the Christmas gifts she gave each year. She and her husband had a pet squirrel named May Bell, who was a frequent visitor to their home for ten years. They enjoyed 60 years of married life together. They traveled extensively, including a three month tour of Europe, trips to Hawaii and Tahiti, and numerous cross country trips camping. After Bob died, Nona made her home at Bickford Cottage and enjoyed many activities and new friends while there.

Survivors include two sons, David (Carol) Thistlethwaite of San Francisco and Philip (Catherine) Thistlethwaite of Arlington Heights, Ill.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Betty Welch.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Prugh's Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mrs. Thistlethwaite will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Salzmann officiating. Burial will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church.

Thomas Bollinger

Thomas Harold Eldon Bollinger, 77, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. Bollinger was born in Farmington Township in Fulton County, Georgia. He lived in Des Moines before moving to Salem 17 years ago. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of DAV. He was loved his farm.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeannine Bollinger of Grimes and Rachelle Peters of Butler, Ga.; three grandchildren, and three great–grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Bollinger, and one granddaughter.

The funeral for Mr. Bollinger will be today at 2 p.m. at Dunn's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery . A memorial service will be held in Salem at a later date.

A memorial has been established for DAV.
