Irma Krause

Irma M. Todd Krause, age 91, formerly of Storm Lake and Charles City, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at her home in Foulk Manor North in Wilmington, Delaware where she had made her home since December of 1999.

Graveside services will be scheduled later with inurnment in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Friends who wish to send condolences to the family may do so online or by mail to Pamela Kane, 801 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

Irma M. Todd was born May 1, 1913 in Bremer County, Iowa near Waverly the daughter of George and Daisy (Perry) Todd. She graduated from Charles City High School with the class of 1931.

On April 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Marvin A. Krause in Austin, Minnesota. He died on November 6, 1991.

The couple moved to Storm Lake, Iowa in 1964 from Charles City. Irma enjoyed playing golf and belonged to both the Alta and Lake Creek Country Clubs. She also was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by a daughter Pamela Kane and her husband, B. Anderson Hopkins and by a son Don and his wife Bonny all of Wilmington, DE. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Elizabeth and John Kane, Susan and Daniel Krause and Robert and Maxwell Hopkins, four nephews and numerous extended family members and friends.

Preceding Irma in death were her parents, her husband, two sisters Hazel Todd Schmidt and Rozeltha E. Jones, a brother Eldon G. Todd and two infant sisters Viola and Madge.

Jack L. Wells

Jack L. Wells, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Jack’s life at the Embers Lounge in Storm Lake on Friday, April 23, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, where the family will be present in the Embers' party room. Private family memorial services will be held in Minnesota at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jack’s memory may be honored with contributions to the Storm Lake Music Booster Crescendo Club, c/o Storm Lake High School, 621 Tornado Drive, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588.

Jack was born on May 27, 1924 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Edward and Gretchen (Kreidler) Wells. He lived with his parents in Madison, Nebraska, where Jack graduated from high school in 1941. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II, spending most of his time on the carrier USS Wake Island in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged following the war. Jack then studied at the University of Nebraska, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business and his master’s degree in music.

On April 24, 1947, Jack was united in marriage to E. Helen Gloor at Altadena, CA. Their marriage was blessed with three children: a son, Mike, and two daughters, Barbara and Kathy.

Music was Jack’s life and also a great source of pleasure. He taught music in Nebraska, was manager of the musical merchandise department of a retail music store in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Storm Lake, where he was part owner in Mid-Bell Music. Jack liked to practice his music in many capacities, including playing in numerous dance bands. He was a mentor and valued friend to many area music teachers. He also enjoyed golfing, motorcycling and biking. Jack was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church and the Jewel Masonic Lodge #309 in Storm Lake. A loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather, Jack cherished his family.

His family includes his wife, Helen of Storm Lake; his son, Mike and wife Barb Wells of Storm Lake; two daughters: Barbara and husband John Dulmage of Toledo, Ohio and Kathy and husband Roger Hansen of Springville, Arizona; four grandchildren: Noël Holman, Benjamin Wells, Roger Hansen, Jr., and Michelle Hansen; one brother, Ed and wife Lois Wells of Eau Claire, WI; and many extended family members and friends.

Preceding Jack in death were his parents, Edward and Gretchen Wells.

Franklin C. "Frank" Morse

Franklin C. “Frank” Morse, age 78, of Storm Lake died on Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell and Revered Jamie Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Ferguson Cemetery at Lake View.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will greet relatives and friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin Morse was born on July 28, 1925 in Grant Township northeast of Storm Lake, Iowa to Warren and Georgia (Williams) Morse. He was baptized in Storm Lake. Frank lived with his parents on their farm northeast of Storm Lake while growing up and attended Grant Township rural school.

On June 2, 1951, Frank was united in marriage with Vera J. Momsen in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Two sons and a daughter blessed this union.

Frank worked for Storm Lake Lumber, the Illinois Central Railroad and the City of Newell. He was a loving husband, father and step-father who cherished the time he spent with his family. His family remembers him as a special man who will always be in their hearts. He will be missed.

Frank is survived by his wife, Vera, of Storm Lake; sons Calvin and wife Jennifer Morse of Aurelia, and Douglas Morse of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Linda Medsker of Rembrandt; step-daughters Judy and husband Richard Hartsell of Early, Mary Lou and husband Ferrell Lee Sirovy of Ruthven, and Virginia and husband Keith Dobler of Glenwood; grandchildren Kari, Jessica and Cody Medsker, Jenika Stamer, Ashley Morse, Emily Morse, and Michael, Vicki and Desiree Morse; step-grandchildren Becky Riedesel, Jacob Hartsell, Amanda Weber, Brenda Bjorum, Farrell Wayne and Brett Sirovy, Wendy Mooney, and Nancy Dobler; great-grandchildren Brendon Sullivan and Olivia Stamer; step-great-grandchildren Donald and Faith Riedesel, J.j. and Justin Weber, Courtney Sirovy and Sean Dobler; brother Mervin and wife Donna Morse of Odebolt; sisters Lois and husband Gerhardt Gutz of Storm Lake, Arlene Petersen of Newell, and Jean and husband Ray Hahn of Riverton, WY.

Mr. Morse was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norton and Ivan; brothers-in-law Aaron Buchholz, Ralph Petersen, Bernard Oakland and Ronald Momsen; sister-in-law Arlene Oakland; and step-great-grandchild Brianna Bjorum.

Lloyd R. Dreessen

Lloyd R. Dreessen, age 55, of Storm Lake, Iowa left us Monday, November 8, 2004 at his home in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Storm Lake, with Father Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery with Father John McGuirk officiating at the committal service. The arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 between 3:00 and 8:00 p.m., where a Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The family plans to be present between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Lloyd Richard Dreessen was born March 5, 1949 in Carroll, Iowa to Marvin and Katherine (Fix) Dreessen. He grew up on a farm south of Wall Lake, attending elementary and high school there. Lloyd attended Barber College in Sioux City following his high school graduation. Lloyd served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve in Sac City from February 1969 to February 1976, and in the Army National Guard of Storm Lake from August 1977 to August 1978.

Lloyd was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake as a child, and currently was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.

On February 21, 1970 Lloyd was united in marriage to Norma Rogers in Wall Lake. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Troyd and Jayme.

Lloyd worked as a flooring installer for 34 years in Storm Lake and surrounding areas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto racing, tractor pulling and playing darts, and was an avid Oakland Raider fan. Lloyd was a Canada Mount Lake Fishing Club Member and earned the name of “Laker” Lloyd. He had an incredible sense of humor, was good-natured and possessed an outgoing personality.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Norma of Storm Lake; his two sons: Troyd and wife Becky of Carroll and Jayme and wife Alicia of Oskaloosa; grandchildren: Anna Dreessen, Jenna Dreessen and Kayla Dreessen; his sister, Sharon Graham and husband Earl; plus many extended family members and a host of friends.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Katherine Dreessen.

Lance R. Garlock

Lance R. Garlock, age 74, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial Service will be Friday, May 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with the Reverend Duane Queen officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Storm Lake Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Amvets Post #66 will present the flag. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Friends who wish to send condolences to the family may do so online.

Lance Robert Garlock was born September 4, 1929 in Fonda, Iowa to Burnell and Opal (Stetham) Garlock. He spent his childhood in his parents’ home in Fonda, attending school there and then graduating from Fonda High School. Lance attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for three years, then Drake University in Des Moines for 3 more years to earn his B.S. in Pharmacy. During the time he was a student at Buena Vista, he worked at Ireland Drug in Storm Lake.

Lance served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

On May 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna R. Sporleder in Lake City, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Lance Greg, Valerie and Gale. Lance was devoted to his family and treasured the time he could spend with them.

As a registered pharmacist, Lance, along with Donna, owned and operated Odebolt Drug in Odebolt from 1966 through 1986, where Lance was a community leader and member of the Odebolt Rotary Club. During his retirement years, Lance helped out area pharmacists at drugstores in Sac City and in the northwest Iowa area.

Lance was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis Beavers in Storm Lake. He was an avid fisherman who loved every moment he could spend with a fishing line in his hands.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna of Storm Lake; son, Lance G. Garlock of Storm Lake; daughters: Valerie and husband Duane Kavanaugh of Groton, SD and Gale and husband Pat McEvoy of Elgin, MN; four grandchildren: Spenser and Mikki Kavanaugh and Reece and Braeden McEvoy; one nephew, two nieces, and many other extended family and friends.

Preceding Lance in death were his parents, and a brother, Dale E. Garlock.

A memorial honoring Lance has been established. Memorials may be sent to the Garlock family.

Loren Piercy

Loren H. Piercy, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Storm Lake, with Father Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass. Burial with full military rites will be in the Newell Cemetery in Newell under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Loren Homan Piercy was born May 22, 1925 in Newell, Iowa to Edgar Wilbur and Kathryn (Homan) Piercy. He grew up in the Newell area, attending elementary and high school there. Loren entered the U.S. Army in July of 1943 and served during World War II with the 573rd Anti-aircraft Division as a Staff Sergeant. He was awarded medals for combat before he was honorably discharged in April of 1946.

Loren was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, having been baptized in the church on February 26, 1983.

On December 5, 1948 Loren was united with Ruby Rose Hansen in holy matrimony at Newell. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Kevin Loren and Kimberly Layne.

Loren and Ruby raised their family together while Loren worked as a plumber and electrician for 35 years and then for the United States Postal Service for 10 years before he retired on November 28, 1989. He was a loving husband, devoted father and treasured grandfather and great-grandfather whose family was always first in his life. Loren liked to go camping and was especially fond of the autumn of the year, taking rides in the car to enjoy the countryside. He was a happy person and you could often hear his laughter when he was visiting with friends and enjoying his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 56 years, Ruby Rose Piercy of Storm Lake; his two sons: Kevin and wife Gloria of Storm Lake and Kim and wife Susan of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Heath and wife Amy Piercy, Amy Piercy and husband Matt Korell, Travis Piercy, Ryan Piercy and Brandon Piercy; great-grandchildren: Dorian Korell, Addyson Korell, Camryn Korell, Cole Piercy, Kiley Piercy, Caden Piercy and Karsyn Piercy; his brother, Norman W. Piercy and a special family that Loren loved: Kathy and Greg Hansen and their children Christopher, Beth and Colleen; plus many extended family members and a host of friends.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Kathryn Piercy.

Martin L. Crandell

Martin L. Crandell, age 76, of Storm Lake died on December 29, 2004 in Storm Lake, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be Sunday, January 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund.

Martin Lawrence Crandell was born December 24, 1928, in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Clarence Arthur and Freida Charlotte (Wieckhorst) Crandell. Through his early years, he lived with his family in Nebraska City, Friend, NE, and Beatrice, NE attending grade school and junior high school. They eventually moved to David City, Nebraska where Martin graduated from David City (NE) High School before he enlisted in the Marine Corp on August 26, 1946.

During his enlistment in the Marines, Martin served in the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot in San Diego, CA, before his honorable discharge on August 25, 1949. Later that year he joined the Army National Guard serving in 134th FA in Storm Lake acquiring the rank of SFA. Martin proudly served in the National Guard until his discharge in 1988.

In 1946, Martin married Lillian Abbott. On August 1, 1967, Martin was united in marriage to Cheryl Arends in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Martin was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Storm Lake. He was a past Senior Warden at the church, as well as serving as a vestry member and on the discernment committee. As a child, Martin was baptized in Nebraska City and later confirmed.

Following his discharge from the Marines, Martin enrolled at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He graduated from there with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 1953 and a Master of Music Degree in 1954. He taught in Wahoo, NE from 1954-60. From 1960-64, he managed a Jenkins Music Store in Kansas City. He taught in Marcus, IA for seven years before coming to Storm Lake where he was director of bands for 23 years.

Throughout Martin’s career as an instrumental performer and instructor he achieved many awards including the IBA Karl King Distinguished Service Award and the Northwest Iowa Distinguished Service Award. While in Wahoo, NE, the Jaycees named him as their “Outstanding Man of the Year”. Martin’s performance credits include 3 years in the Marine Band, 9 years in the 43rd Army Band, Nebraska National Guard, the Big Bands of Bob Crosby, Ray Anthony, Guy Lombardo, Jan Garber, Jimmy Dorsey, Warren Durrett and the Kansas City Chiefs Kicks Band. He played in show bands for Red Skelton, Patti Page, John Davidson, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Nancy Wilson, The Temptations, The Imperials and conducted the Bob Hope Show Band at the Clay County Fair. While a band instructor, Martin’s high school bands achieved top ratings in Marching, Concert and Jazz band competitions. His concert band performed as honor group at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and Morningside College in Sioux City. After his retirement in 1995 Martin continued his love for music by directing band clinics, camps, honor bands, and teaching private lessons. He also substitute taught and performed regularly with many area & regional bands.

Martin also participated in activities with the Masonic Lodge and ESGR (a volunteer group which supports the reserves and National Guard). In his spare time Martin enjoyed fishing, hunting and cribbage.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheryl of Storm Lake; sons Steven Crandell of Lincoln, NE and Christopher Crandell of West Des Moines, IA; daughters Margaret Dredla of Scottsbluff, NE, Terri Eberly of Red Cloud, NE, and Mary Garrels of Ankeny, IA; brother, Robert Crandell of Winona, MN and sister Lois Ann Swisher of Middletown, IA; grandchildren: T.J. Dredla, Anne Pierce, Matt Crandell, Gretchen Dredla, Grant Eberly, Lance Eberly, Joel Crandell, Clare Crandell, Anna Eberly and Nicholas Crandell as well as other extended family members and friends.

Preceding Martin in death were his parents.

Margie Peck

Margie Peck, age 76, of Alta, Iowa died Monday, April 5, 2004 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Christian Services will be held Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where a Rosary Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Margie Pauline Peck, the daughter of Harding and Carrie Fitchett Hansen, was born July 3, 1927 in Newell, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Newell and Storm Lake communities, where she received her education.

Marge married Louis John Peck on July 30, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Throughout their marriage they lived and worked in the Storm Lake, Newell and Alta communities. Marge sold Stanley products for years, as well as running a clothing store for many more years. For enjoyment, she taught ceramic and painting to many nice people in the Alta community. Marge loved sales and meeting new people. She made time to go fishing and bowling with her family, and she enjoyed her grandchildren, who were a very special part of her life.

Marge is survived by her children: Billy Jo Peck of Sioux City, IA, Mary and husband Tim King of Phoenix, AZ; Greg Peck and wife Judy of St. James, MN, Theresa and husband Doug Stugard of Laurens, IA, Jeff Peck of Alta, IA, and Randy and wife Becky Peck of Phoenix, AZ; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Betty and husband Edgar Eickhoff of Newell, IA and Ruby Rose and husband Loren Piercy of Storm Lake, IA; one brother: Kenneth and his wife Mary Hansen of Lakeside, IA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and special friends at Buena Vista Manor.

Preceding Marge in death were her parents and her husband.

Ramon Felix

Ramon Leon Felix, age 22, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 in rural Holstein, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in the city of San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora in Mexico. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, October 1, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Ramon was born in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora in June, 1982 to Santiago Leon and Maria De Jesus Felix. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He received his education in Mexicali, B.C.

After he moved to Storm Lake, Ramon was working as a dairy operator at the Holstein Dairy in rural Holstein. He was a good worker. Ramon also enjoyed music and was a very good dancer.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Santiago Leon and Maria De Jesus Felix; his brothers: Ricardo Leon and Mauricio Leon; his sisters Rosa Leon, Rocio Leon and Fransisca Leon; his grandmother, Maria Dominguez; and many other extended family members and friends.

Ramon was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ismael Felix, and uncle Jose M. Felix.
