Randy Lampe

Randy L. Lampe, 47, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Houghton, died Monday morning, June 16, 2003, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Link Funeral Home in West Point.

Mary Titus

Mary L. Titus, 77, of West Burlington, died at 12:03 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at her niece's residence in Burlington.

Born Feb. 27, 1927, in Cedar, she was the daughter of William and Daisy Ross Lathrop. On Jan. 27, 1964, she married George Titus Jr. in Wichita, Kan. He died Oct. 18, 1976.

Mrs. Titus worked as a sheet metal mechanic with Boeing in Wichita for 13 years, retiring in April 1965. She became a homemaker until her husband's death and then worked again at Lamont Ltd. from April 1977 until retiring in May 1992.

She was a graduate of St. Marys High School in St. Marys. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 4123 in Indianola since 1977 and Daughters of the American Revolution Four Winds Chapter in Garnett, Kan., since April 1973.

Survivors include two sisters, Louise Strable of Demoplis, Ala., and Dorothy Clealand of Des Moines; nieces and nephews, including Diane Sweeden of Burlington; and great–nieces and great–nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola.

The funeral for Mrs. Titus will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oak Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jason Unzicker officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.

Memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church, American Bible Society and VFW National Home.

Kim Overstreet

Kim D. Overstreet, 42, of Burlington, died at 10:40 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk.

JAMES E. TIMMERMAN

Graveside Committal Services for Mr. James E. Timmerman, 65, will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at 11:00 A.M. at the Latty Cemetery in Burlington. Ray E. Hollenbeck will officiate. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his memory.

CLARENCE SCHMIDT

Funeral Services for Mr. Clarence John Henry "CJH" Schmidt, 96, will be held this morning at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf and Rev. Donald Hoornstra will officiate. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery . Special music for the mass will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

DOROTHY BEARD

Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Beard, 86, of Burlington, who died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Burlington Care Center are pending at Prughs. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Wayne Jones

Wayne W. Jones, 81, of Wayland, Mo., died at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at the Clark County Care Facility in Kahoka.

Born March 21, 1922, in Alexandria, Mo., he was the son of William F. and Blanch Arnold Jones. On Nov. 7, 1944, he married Dorothy Louise Elschlager.

Mr. Jones worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1978. He was a commercial fisherman and a master contractor. He owned and operated an antique shop for many years in Wayland, and worked for Burns Security until 1997. He restored and refinished woodstoves and other antiques, including a 1911 Model T Ford. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and served as an airplane and engine mechanic.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keokuk and served many years on the church board of trustees. He was a member of the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club and the Ill–Ia–Mo Antique Car Club.

Survivors include his wife of Wayland; two daughters, Carolyn Galbraith of Wayland and Teresa Bogener of Newton, Kan.; two grandchildren and a special surrogate grandson; one sister, Margarite Wright of Wayland; one brother, Kenneth Jones of Quincy, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.

The funeral for Mr. Jones will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Keokuk. Burial will be in Campground Cemetery in Downing, Mo. Military Rites will be performed by Herman H. Blum, Post No. 192 of Kahoka.

Memorials have been established for the First Baptist Church of Keokuk and the American Cancer Society.

Marguerite Rose Slavick

Marguerite Rose Slavick died August 11, 2004.

She was born July 29, 1926, in Nauvoo, Illinois. She lived in California for 57 years and in Hesperia for 46 years. She was an active member of the Ladies' Altar Society of Holy Family Catholic Church, and was a Knight of Columbus Lady.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Frank T. Slavick; by her sister, Dorothy Gumfory; and by her brother, Kenneth Wilkens.

Rose is survived by four sisters: Joanne Perry of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Frances Riis of Topeka, Kansas; Jeanne Kruse of Des Moines, Iowa; and Elizabeth Stout of Fort Madison, Iowa; and two brothers: John Wilkens of Oak Harbor, Washington, and David Wilkens of Wimberley, Texas.

She is also survived by her children, both natural and chosen: Anna and husband Robin Lewis of Apple Valley; Susan James of Sunnyvale; Margaret of Hesperia; Nicholas and wife Lorie of Victorville; Julie Hughes of Hesperia; Shiela and Tony Whitesock of Hesperia; and Darlene Rowe of Hesperia.

Rose leaves eighteen grandchildren: Paul Butts and wife Dannielle; Brian Hatchell and wife Sarah; Jeremy Casey; Frank, Aaron, and Bryce Slavick; JoAnn Slavick; Joseph, Steven, and Christopher Hughes; Alicia, Brandon, and Deanna Whitesock; Richard and Tony Walter and Jennifer Rowe. She has three great–grandchildren: Rowan Hatchell, Emmett Travis, and Jacob Torres. She is "Mom," "Grandma Rose," and "Aunt Rose" to numerous other children of all ages whom she loved. Also surviving Rose is her nationwide and international family of friends.

A Rosary will be said at Holy Family Catholic Church on I Avenue in Hesperia at 7 p.m. Monday, August 16. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father John Fahnestock at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.

Rose loved flowers, and the family is alternately requesting donations to the ministry of Father Paul Slaby in Equatorial Guinea in Africa. Checks made to Father Paul Slaby may be sent to Ron Dane, 9435 SVL Box, Victorville, California 92395.

Kern Hesperia Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Stanley Rice

Stanley Everett Rice, 65, of Austin, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004.

Born Nov. 22, 1938, in Mary–ville, Mo., he was the son of Clarence Harrison and Vida Leora Schoonover Rice. On June 10, 1961, he married Lois Ann Pearson in Barnard, Mo.

Mr. Rice was a teacher for 37 years, teaching mathematics and coaching in junior high and high schools in Wiota, Oakland, Manning and Burlington. He taught in Burlington schools from the fall of 1964 to his retirement in 1995. In addition, he also owned and operated S. and R. Construction Chain Link Fence from 1980 to 2001.

He grew up in Barnard and received his bachelor's degree from Northwest Missouri State College and his master's degree from the University of Missouri. He moved to Austin in October 2001. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of Capital Area Parkinson's Society, Dripping Springs United Methodist Church, AARP, the National Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the University of Missouri Alumni Association and Alpha Phi Omega.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laura Rice and Anita Rinkenberger, both of Austin; and one grandson of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral for Mr. Rice was Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel of Cook–Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Austin, with the Rev. Bill Nichols officiating. Burial was in Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

Memorials have been established for Capital Area Parkinson's Society, Dripping Springs United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church in Burlington.

Phyllis Horn

Phyllis Sue Horn, 55, of New London, died as the result of an automobile accident at 7:34 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Nov. 22, 1948, in Bur–lington, she was the daughter of Earl and Gloria Alice Kerns Horn. In 1968, she married Donald Edward Puffinbarger. They later divorced.

Ms. Horn worked for 10 years for Design Engineering in New London. She also worked weekends at Ayerco in Burlington.

She was a 1966 graduate of New London High School. She was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed Elvis, plants, flowers, cactus, turtles, sewing and puzzles.

Survivors include two daughters, Jolene Beauchamp of Mount Pleasant and April Puffinbarger of New London; two sons, Shawn Puffinbarger of New London and Shane Puffinbarger of Mount Union; 15 grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; her parents of New London; two sisters, Pam Rockel of Holland, Mich., and Cheri Westcott of Waterloo; one brother, Tom Horn of Dyersville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Horn will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Bob Dameron officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

A memorial has been established.

Paul Torn

Paul G. Torn, 78, of Burlington, died at 1:43 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.

Vincent Carlson

Vincent B. Carlson, 88, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Oak Lake Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.

Born Jan. 2, 1916, in Northcote, Minn., he was the son of Joseph E. and Helena Barnett Carlson. On May 30, 1937, he married Louise Gregory in Monmouth, Ill. She died Oct. 4, 2003.

Mr. Carlson first worked for Rozetta Township, Ill. He then was a patrolman with the Illinois State Police. He served as sheriff of Henderson County for three terms and was treasurer of Henderson County for another three terms. He was with the Illinois Agriculture Department for 15 years until retiring. In his later years, he enjoyed owning and operating his own farm.

He was raised and educated in the Rozetta rural schools. He was involved with the Henderson County Republican Central Committee and served as precinct committeeman. He also served many years with the Henderson County Housing Authority. He was a member of Oquawka United Methodist Church, was active in the Henderson County Historical Society and was a former member of Oquawka Masonic Lodge. He also was active in the Western Illinois Sheriff's Association for a number of years. He was an avid hunter and gardener.

Survivors include one son, Gregory B. Carlson of Faribault, Minn.; two daughters, Gay Martin of Oquawka and Jody Griffitts of St. Charles, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great–grandchildren; one brother, Ivan Carlson of Stronghurst; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. The body has been cremated.

Because his son is out of the country, a memorial service for Mr. Carlson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lyren Haney officiating. Burial will be in Rozetta Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab, Henderson County Home Health Care and Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.

Randy Schmitz

Randy L. Schmitz, 55, of Choctaw, Okla., formerly of Burlington, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, in Newcastle, Okla.

Arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.
