Albert “Roy” Moore

Albert “Roy” Moore, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, August 4, 2005 in Storm Lake.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2005 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where there will be a Vigil Service at 3:30 and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00.

Roy was born December 7, 1924 in Bagley, Iowa to Oscar and Mary (Lane) Moore. The family moved to Glidden, Iowa in 1938. He attended school in a country school and later at Glidden School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from 1943-46 at Hickam Air Field at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. During his duty, Roy took part in the Pacific Theatre and was a Sergeant of the Anti-aircraft artillery battery.

On January 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Darlene A. Reiling at St. Frances of Assissi Church in Maple River, Iowa with Reverend Father Peter Maltes officiating.

They lived in Glidden and he worked in Carroll, Iowa for Lockhart Company, McCarville Pontiac Garage and Studebaker Garage, before moving to Storm Lake in 1952. He worked for Peterson Motor Company until 1967 when he started his own shop (Roy’s Auto Service). He retired in 1992.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as usher and money counter for many years. He was a member of the K.C. #2326 and The 4th Degree Rosatic Assembly Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight from 1982—84 and Faithful Navigator from 1980—1981. He was a pilot and belonged to the Flying Club for years; he owned his own plane for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Mary; and brothers, Larry and Charles.

Survivors include his wife of more than 58 years, Darlene of Storm Lake; five daughters: Shirley and husband Tom Boje of Omaha, Nebraska, Irene and husband Dan Jensen of Omaha, Nebraska, Phyllis and husband Ron Roelfs of Waverly, Iowa, Pat and husband Dave Kastengren of Cherokee, Iowa, Tracey and husband Dave Plorins of Waukee, Iowa; three sons: Richard and wife Patti of Storm Lake, Michael and wife Susan of Carroll, Ken and special friend Sabrina of Storm Lake; 18 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters: Juanita and husband Merle Gilroy of Jefferson, Iowa and Jean and husband Delbert Patrick of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law Vera Moore of Thousand Oaks, California and Margaret Moore of Giltner, Nebraska; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Dorothy B. Nelsen

Dorothy B. Nelsen, age 91, of Newell, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Newell Good Samaritan Home in Newell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Newell, with Pastor Greg Baskerville officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2005 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell.

Dorothy Bernice Boyce was born in Newell, Iowa on February 17, 1914 to George W. and Anna (Jensen) Boyce. She lived with her family in the Newell area, attending and graduating from Newell High School in 1931. Dorothy furthered her education by attending Buena Vista College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught country school north of Newell for 3 years.

She was a member of the Newell First Congregational Church where she had been baptized and confirmed.

On June 8, 1935, Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward P. Nelsen at the Newell First Congregational Church. Their union was blessed with three children: Daryl Glenn, Judith Ann and Alice Jean.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother who delighted in keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family. Her love of family was evident, especially with the great affection and interest she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy loved spending her winters in Texas. In her earlier years, Dorothy delighted in singing and playing piano and violin. Spending time with friends and family always made her happy.

Dorothy was an active member of the Newell community. She was a member of the Newell Federated Club, Buena Vista County Republican Women and the SWN Club. In addition to those, Dorothy was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and assisted with activities surrounding the Allee Historical Mason.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Daryl Nelsen and his wife Mary Beth of Adel, Iowa; her daughters: Judith Giddings and her husband V. Gerry of Georgetown, Texas and Alice Nielsen of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren: Chetney Nelsen and his wife Teri, J. Matthew Nelsen and his wife Lori, Thomas Giddings and his wife Rachel, Krista Giddings and her husband Michael Ehrhardt, and Kara Giddings; great grandchildren: Christian, Jakob, Emily and Zachery Nelsen, Fenton, Jacy and Jeb Nelsen, Peter and Andrew Giddings, and Emma and Evan Ehrhardt; niece, Virginia Saylor; life-long best friend, Zora Baughman; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward P. Nelsen, and one brother, Douglas D. Boyce.

Edgar F. Dandy

Edgar F. Dandy, age 100, of Schaller, Iowa died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center where he has resided since March 2004.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, Iowa with Pastor David Lyons officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Tuesday, July 26, 2005 from 4-8:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 6-8:00 pm.

Edgar Franklin Dandy was born in Odebolt on July 29, 1904, the son of William Franklin and Lydia (Brown) Dandy. He first moved to Schaller in 1907.

Edgar was in the lumber business throughout his working years. In March of 1928, he started working at the Robert Mayor Lumber Yard in Schaller and later worked for both the Mayor and Westerman lumber yards in Jolley and Rockwell City. He returned to Schaller in 1936 as the manager of Schaller Lumber Company. Edgar continued in this position until 1972, when he stepped down but continued as assistant manager until the lumber yard was sold.

He married Ella Peters of Alta at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover on January 29, 1930. Edgar and Ella raised three children, Eugene, Kathleen and Darrold. Edgar was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and of the Schaller Community. He enjoyed the fellowship of family and friends, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and to maintain domestic tranquility, learned to enjoy card playing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 75 years, Ella; daughter Kathleen Goettsch and her husband Loren “Doc” of Holstein; son Darrold Dandy and his wife Carol of Annandale, Virginia; two brothers, Floyd Dandy of Storm Lake and Lincoln Dandy and his wife Gloria of Sioux Rapids; two sisters, Mary Christiansen of New Braunfels, Texas and Edna Aamodt of Prescott, Wisconsin; four grandsons: Kirby Goettsch and his wife Trisha of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Kirk Goettsch and his wife Ellen of Omaha, Nebraska, Kevin Dandy of Arlington, Virginia, and Matthew Dandy of Annandale, Virginia; six great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one great-great step granddaughter; and other relatives and a host of friends.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: William, Morris, Aubrey, Wilbur and George; and his son, Eugene.

Iona Sievers

Iona Sievers passed away on Friday, March 11, 2005 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 15 days.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Monday, March 14, 2005 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m.

Iona Dorothea Emma Sievers, daughter of Henry and Emma (Otteman) Sievers, was born July 27, 1915 at home in Coon Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa. She was baptized on August 15, 1915 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Storm Lake, Iowa and confirmed that baptism on March 29, 1929 at Zion Lutheran Church. Iona received her education at a one room school house in Coon Township.

On December 29, 1934 she married Herbert Sievers at the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage. To this union three sons, Maynard, Elwin and Randy were born.

Iona and Herbert farmed until 1965, when they moved to Storm Lake. During her lifetime, she was active in politics, being vice chairman of the county Republican central committee. Iona also served as chairman of the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau Women. She was involved in her church, being president of the Ladies Aid at Zion and also at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She was LWML Zone President for four years.

After Herb’s retirement, they spent fifteen winters in Texas, enjoying the warm weather and making new friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing dominoes, bridge and other card games. She also enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s school events.

Iona was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herb, sons: Maynard and Elwin, granddaughter Beth Sievers and one brother.

She is survived by a son Randy and his wife Jan of Storm Lake; a daughter-in-law Joyce Sievers of Smithville, Tennessee; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives.

Lloyd Tymeson

Lloyd Tymeson, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 11, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Sunday, April 10, 2005 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Lloyd A. Tymeson was born January 31, 1913 to Albert and Birdie (Aiken) Tymeson in Truesdale, Iowa. He received his education in the Storm Lake schools, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1930. Lloyd continued his education at Buena Vista College, where he graduated in 1934. While a junior at Buena Vista, Lloyd coached basketball at Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School. Lloyd’s father, Albert, purchased what was then called the Storm Lake Bank located at 600 Lake Avenue in Storm Lake in the aftermath of the Great Depression in 1937. The bank was known as Commercial State Bank, Commercial Trust & Savings Bank and Central Bank in succeeding years. After coaching and teaching for three years in Jolley, Iowa, Lloyd began his career with the bank. He was elected president of the family bank when his father passed away in 1955. He was elected Chairman of the Board in 1978. The bank was sold to Tim and John Brown in 1990; however, Lloyd remained on the board until 2001.

On April 17, 1938, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Nutter. Their union was blessed with four children: James, Kristin, Tracy and Albert. Marjorie passed away in 1978. He later married Margaret Dawson. When World War II broke out, Lloyd joined the United States Army in 1941 and served his country as a finance officer in Calcutta before being discharged with honor in 1946.

In addition to being a steady influence in the business community, Lloyd was active in community affairs. He served Buena Vista University as a trustee and benefactor. He was also a trustee at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, and a member of Kiwanis. He was on the board of directors of World Insurance Company of Omaha, Nebraska and was a member of the Storm Lake Elks Lodge and the Storm Lake Masons. He enjoyed playing golf, cards and pool when his time allowed.

A devoted family man, Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory his children: James (Paula) Tymeson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kristin (Tom) Grunig of Sioux City, Iowa, Tracy Peck of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Albert (Tena) Tymeson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren: Christopher Tymeson of Topeka, Kansas, Todd (Angela) Tymeson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Nathan (Sarah) Tymeson of Waverly, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Mustapha) Tabia of Dearborn, Michigan, Meghan Tymeson of Diamond, Missouri, Benjamin Grunig and Kelly Grunig, both of Sioux City, Iowa, Ashley Peck, Breanna Peck and Chelsey Peck, all of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Nicholas Tymeson, Rachel Tymeson, and Adam Tymeson, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; step-grandchildren: Tate Ulven of Cherry Point, North Carolina, Jennifer Hantsbarger of Gardner, Kansas and Stephanie Ulven of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Logan Tymeson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Michela Tymeson of Waverly, Minnesota, Alexis Tabia of Dearborn, Michigan, Brendan Switzer and Michael Switzer, both of Nevada, Missouri, Nathan Bumbaugh of Lamar, Missouri, Erica Tymeson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jasmine Grunig of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Virginia Tymeson of Jacksonville, Florida; special friend Francis Bean of Storm Lake; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie; his second wife, Margaret; his brothers: F. Aiken Tymeson and wife Helen, Claire W. Tymeson and wife Ethelyn, and Herbert H. Tymeson.

Stanley H. Haahr

Stanley H. Haahr, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where family will greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m.

Stanley Hansen Haahr, son of Viggo and Sena (Hansen) Haahr, was born on October 10, 1915 in rural Alta, Iowa. He attended school at Highview Country School and graduated in 1932. Following high school, Stan attended Buena Vista College and earned a degree in 1936. After graduation from Buena Vista College, Stan continued his education at the University of Iowa Grad School.

On June 6, 1938, Stan was united in marriage to Virginia LaGrange in Storm Lake. They were blessed with two children: Jim and Barbara. Following Virginia’s passing, Stan married Billie McDowell on July 18, 1992 in Lake Park, Iowa.

Stan worked as a school teacher and administrator from 1936-1946. During WWII, he assisted the military in building airplanes. He was President of Buena Vista Abstract & Mortgage Company from 1947-1975. He founded Storm Lake Savings and Loan Association in 1954, now known as MetaBank, where he served on the Board of Directors from 1954-1990 and served as Chairman of the Board from 1981-1990. He also co-founded the Storm Lake Industrial Development Corporation and Lake Creek Country Club. In addition, he was a member of the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce and served as an Elder in his church. He is a charter member of Order of the Arch and founding chairperson of the Cornerstone Guard at Buena Vista University.

Being not only a distinguished educator, banker and philanthropist, he was a volunteer receiving awards for his tireless dedication to his alma mater. In 1991, Stan was awarded the Henry Olson Distinguished Service Award at Buena Vista University.

During his lifetime, Stan enjoyed good music, golfing, fishing, restoring antique cars (SERPACI Car Club), watching sports and dancing. He demonstrated a true zest for life and lived by his simple philosophy, “You’ve just gotta take care of the people.”

Above all, Stan was a loving son, husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa.

Preceding Stan in death were his parents Viggo and Sena Haahr and his first wife Viginia.

He is survived by his wife Billie of Storm Lake; son Jim Haahr and wife Gretchen of Storm Lake; daughter Barbara Walters and husband Ron of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Karen Bump and husband Jeff of Panora, Tyler Haahr and wife Michelle of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ellen Moore and husband Troy of Clive, Dave Walters and wife Dr. Sue Walters of Glenwood, Dan Walters of Des Moines, Deb Walters-Smith and husband Chris of Rochester, Minnesota; great grandchildren: Mason, Allison and Jenna Bump of Panora, Lauren and Alec Haahr of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Matthew, Kate, Sarah and Julia Moore of Clive, Max and Anna Walters-Smith of Rochester, Minnesota; one sister Virginia Meyer of Alta; as well as extended family and friends.

Vesta E. Krebs

Vesta E. Krebs, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Memorial mass will be Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Monday, May 23, 2005 from 3-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where there will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m.

Vesta Elaine Paeper was born on January 6, 1921 to Fred and Myrtle (Hunter) Paeper in Newell, Iowa. She lived with her family and attended school in the Newell area.

On March 7, 1938, Vesta was united in marriage to Ray Krebs in Varina, Iowa. To this union, four children were born: Trudy, Rex, Sidney and DeEtte.

She loved playing piano, dancing and visiting with friends. There was nothing she cherished more than spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the St. Mary’s Guild.

Those left to cherish Vesta’s memory are her children: Trudy Peterson and her husband Leonard, Rex Krebs and his wife Jennie, Sidney Krebs and his wife Judy and DeEtte Graham and her husband Don; grandchildren: Kari Hayes and her husband Mike, Kimberly Peterson, Kellie Wallace and her husband Lincoln, Chad Krebs and his wife Shelley, Cory Krebs and his wife Susan, Mary Chris Nemes and her husband Billy, Halley Lee and her husband Steve, Amy Fordyce and her husband David, Mitch Krebs and Adam Graham; 19 great- grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

Vesta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Krebs; sister and brother-in-law Bob and Vera Mae Williams; grandson Shawn Krebs; and great-grandson Daniel Hayes.

Vivian S. Pedersen

Vivian S. Pedersen, age 83, of Newell, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, with Reverend Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Vivian Skibsted was born July 17, 1921 in Sac County, Iowa to Martin and Lona (Nielsen) Skibsted. She lived the first two years of her life in Sac County before her family moved to Buena Vista County, Iowa, where she lived the remainder of her life. Vivian was baptized in 1921 at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell and then confirmed at Nain in 1936.

Vivian received her primary education at the Newell Schools before graduating from Sulphur Springs High School in 1939. Following her high school graduation, Vivian left for Des Moines where she attended Grandview College for a year. She later went back to school, graduating from Buena Vista College in 1967 with a B.A. in Education.

On January 24, 1942, Vivian was united in marriage to Herluf E. Pedersen in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Darnell, Pamela and Andrea.

Vivian was a loving wife and devoted mother whose first priority was making a warm and comfortable home for her family, whom she treasured. She also taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade language arts in Early and Newell for many years. She was a member of Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the I.E.A., N.E.A., as well as a member of the Danish Sisterhood. Vivian and Herluf both enjoyed and taught Danish Folk Dancing. She was a faithful, active, lifetime member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed playing piano, reading and gardening. Vivian found pleasure in nature and especially in watching birds. She was always happy to spot her favorite, the cardinal.

Vivian was a kind and gracious lady who had a gift for entertaining and making everyone feel special. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Darnell and husband Willis Ripke of Newell, Pamela and husband Harry Horne of Houston, Texas, and Andrea and husband Art McWilliams of Logan, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Orlean Skibsted of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as many other family members and a host of friends.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herluf on September 6, 1998; and by her brother, Thorton Skibsted.
