Norman J. Kolb

Norman J. Kolb, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial Services for Mr. Kolb will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Pastor David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Norman was born on November 3, 1921 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Henry P. and Martha (Dorsch) Kolb. He graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1940. He attended Iowa State University and later graduated from a floral design school in Chicago, Illinois.

During World War II, Norman served his country in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer in Germany.

In 1944, Norman was united in marriage to Gilberta “Gibby” Edwards in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two daughters: Merrianne and Melinda.

Norman also owned and managed Storm Lake Floral and Greenhouse and took great pride in his work as a florist. He was a 60-year-member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Additionally, Norman was past president of the Storm Lake Rotary Club and the Iowa Florist Association.

His hobbies included flying his own plane, golf and fishing. Upon retirement, he and Gibby spent winters in Naples, Forida enjoying the sun and walking the sandy white beaches of the Gulf. He loved spending time with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Merrianne Siefer and her husband Dan of Storm Lake and Melinda Smart of San Antonio; grandchildren: Sheré Krusemark and her husband Matt, Dana Siefer, Natalie Siefer, Emily Boyd and her husband Matt, Jessica Siefer, Colin Smart and Hannah Smart; one great grandchild, Hayden Smart; and extended family and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gibby; brother, Robert Kolb; and son-in-law, Richard Smart.

P. Larry Graff

Paul Larry Graff, age 63, of Des Moines, Iowa and formerly of Early, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Graveside services for Mr. Graff will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Early Union Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Larry, as he was known to friends and family, was born June 30, 1944 in Cumberland County, North Carolina, the son of Paul Lavere and Mary Belle (Jones) Graff. The family moved to Iowa and Larry received his education in the Early Community School. He spent his life working as a farm hand.

Larry enjoyed fishing and liked to work on cars. Spending time with his friends and family was always his favorite pasttime.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Steve Graff and Peg Ellis of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters Darla Weiland and Chris and husband Kevin Weifenbach, all of Storm Lake; seven nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; extended family and many friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one great-niece, Kristen Hazen.

Ruth Ann McDonough

Ruth Ann McDonough, age 87, of Schaller, Iowa, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Services for Mrs. McDonough will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the Cook Center Township Cemetery near Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.

Ruth Ann Potter was born March 20, 1920 in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Loren Ray and Lila (Harris) Potter. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed her faith as a youth in the Methodist Church. Ruth Ann graduated from Schaller High School in 1938 and continued her education at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa for one year and then for two more years at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.

On December 21, 1944, Ruth Ann was united in marriage to Charles LaDon McDonough at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. The couple was blessed with three children: John, Jim and Jean.

Ruth Ann and LaDon farmed near Schaller their entire married life until their retirement. Ruth Ann was a devoted mother who kept a warm and comfortable home for her family, a home where family and friends were always welcomed. A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Schaller, Ruth Ann was very involved in her church, serving as clerk of Session and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a 4-H leader for numerous years, and was a member of Eastern Star and Clover Club. Ruth Ann also enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several bridge clubs. She and LaDon loved to be among people and they enjoyed their drives through the countryside together.

Ruth Ann’s family was always her first priority and she treasured the time she was able to spend with her children and their families. Her quiet, caring ways will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, John (Norma) McDonough of Early, Iowa; son Jim (Cathy) McDonough of Schaller; daughter Jean McDonough of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren: Michele (Jason) Ronfeldt of Schaller; Melanie Currie (Adam Pyle) of Schaller; Mike McDonough and Mark McDonough, both of Schaller; and Jacob Anspach of Cedar Rapids; step-grandchildren: Cindy (Dan) Schroeder of Odebolt, Iowa; Rick Thies of Sac City, Iowa; and Chris and Jennifer Anspach of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Tasha and Austin Ronfeldt; Kaitlyn Currie, Courtney Pyle and Carson Wendel; step-great-grandchildren: Travis and Chelsea Schroeder; Justin, Kyle and Amanda Thies; Dallas and Melinda Thies; brother Jim (Marlys) Potter of Ames, Iowa; brother Don (Connie) Potter of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Inez McDonough of Boone, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LaDon; her sister, Kay Creel; her two sisters-in-law, Marge Potter and Dodie Potter; daughter-in-law Joyce McDonough; step-grandson Randy Thies; and step-great-granddaughter Heather Schroeder.

Russell "Pill" Corderman

Warren Russell “Pill” Corderman, age 87, of Newell, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at his home in Newell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 17th, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell with Rev. Michael Harman officiating. Burial will be at the Newell Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the American Legion Post No. 193 of Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16th at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell.

Russell was born on January 25, 1920, in Cedar Township, Sac County, Iowa, the son of Alice (Larimer) and Warren H. Corderman. He grew up in Douglas Township where he graduated from country school. He farmed with his father and worked for Lockheed Vegas in California and North American Aircraft in Kansas City before enlisting in the service on September 2, 1942. He served his country in the United States Air Corp, earning the rank of Corporal, when he was honorably discharged in May of 1943 to return home and farm following his father’s heart attack.

On August 29, 1946, Russell was united in marriage to Maxine Schuler at Fort Collins, Colorado. To this union two children were born, Candace and Warren “Rusty”.

Farming was Russell’s life. He loved working the fields and living on the land. He never officially retired, but continued to help Rusty in any way he could. While farming was his life, his family was his love. He treasured every moment he was able to share with his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards, family activities and especially family reunions. He will be dearly missed.

Russell was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell on March 27, 1949, where he remained an active member, serving as an Elder and Trustee. He was a member of the Newell American Legion for 63 years, serving in the Color Guard, Commander, and on the Legion Farm Board. He helped develop the Avenue of flags. He served as Douglas Township Trustee for 40 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Maxine; daughter Candace Booth and husband Dennis of Lytton, IA; son Warren Russell “Rusty” Corderman and wife Karen of Newell, IA; six grandchildren: Kyle Corderman of Greeley, CO, Craig Corderman of Ankeny, IA, and Trent Corderman of Whiting, IA; Sara (Brian) Pibal of Lytton, IA, Becky (Brent) Pike of Whiting, IA; and Ben (Beth) Booth of Mitchellville, IA; five great-grandchildren: Chase and Carson Pibal, Brenna and Briley Pike, and Brooklynn Booth. Other survivors include his sister Bernie Stoffregen of Sac City, IA; brother-in-law Roland (Gwen) Gibbons of Sac City, IA; and many extended family members; and a host of friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Robert and Morris Corderman; toddler/younger sister, Virginia Corderman; and two sisters: Betty Gibbons and Bonnie Jensen.

Wesley Dean Roggensees

Wesley Dean Roggensees, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Funeral services for Mr. Roggensees will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha, with Reverend Carl Benge officiating. Burial will be in the Nemaha Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Dean was born January 31, 1927 in Holbrook, Nebraska, the son of Albert and Pearl (Robinson) Roggensees. Dean was baptized as an infant and later confirmed his faith as a youth. H received his high school diploma at the University of Nebraska Agricultural School.

On November 7, 1951, Dean was married to Genevieve Rosella Erickson in Aurelia, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Marilyn.

Dean was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Nemaha, Iowa. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, and served as Governor of that organization for three years. Dean enjoyed fishing and camping and you might find him wherever a good game of pitch was in progress. A devoted father, Dean loved his family above all, and treasured the time he was able to share with them. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Marilyn (Lee) Cruse of Waco, Texas; grandson Joseph David (Patrice) Ihry of Lorena, Texas; grandson Eric Allen Ihry of Waco, Texas; his great-grandson, Joseph David Ihry II; a brother, Louis (Mary) Roggensees of Largo, Florida; a sister, Marilyn Buker of North Platte, Nebraska; extended family and many friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Genevieve in 1993.

Charles L. Miller

Charles L. Miller, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral service for Mr. Miller will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, with full military rites by the Alta VFW Post 6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

Charles was born September 26, 1926 in Sac City, Iowa, the son of William S. and Aletha (Owen) Miller. He was baptized in the Methodist Church as an infant and confirmed his faith as a youth. He attended Storm Lake Community School and graduated from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1943. He then continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for the next three and a half years.

On July 15, 1946, Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy Ford in New Orleans, Louisiana. The couple was blessed with five children: Virgil, Kay, Tom, Rick and Doug.

Charles joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. A patriot his entire life, Charles was a member of the Alta Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Storm Lake. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Charles was currently a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

Charles was an outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He loved all kinds of sports, enjoyed hunting ducks and pheasants, and liked to go fishing. He always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.

His family was always first in his life, however, and he treasured the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy of Storm Lake; children: Virgil (Phyllis) Miller of Storm Lake; Kay (Gary) Oehler of Storm Lake; Tom (Nancy) Miller of Storm Lake; Rick (Debby) Miller of Vincenne, Indiana; and Doug (Tracy) Miller of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Brian (Carrie) Miller, Tammy (Kevin) Turner, Sheri (Brandon) Ripke, Michael Miller, Pam O’Brien, Terry Zusla Oehler, Jenni (Brent) Jones, J.J. O’Brien, Tami Oehler (Eric), Melissa Miller, T.J. Miller, Chucky Tony Miller, Christopher (Connie) Miller, Gregory Miller, Samantha Miller, Amanda Miller and Alexis Miller; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Helen Ford, Joyce (Ted) Patterson and Audrey Miller; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Miller; two sisters, Ardis and Evelyn; and one nephew, Mike Miller.

Clarence F. Richter

Clarence Frederick Richter, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in his home.

Services for Mr. Richter will be held Monday, May 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 18, 2008 from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

Clarence was born April 27, 1913 in Storm Lake, the son of Christ and Augusta (Grunewald) Richter.

On January 3, 1938, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Tyson in Albert City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with six children: Sharon, Linda, Steve, Jim, Jon and Tom.

Clarence enjoyed going for car rides, fishing and ballroom dancing. He liked to watch television, especially RFD -TV with Big Joe Polka and Market to Market. Clarence was a proud farmer, who especially took great pride in raising his hogs. More than anything, he loved and cherished his grandchildren and the time he spent with them. He will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Linda (David) Fassler of Storm Lake; Steve (Patti) Richter of Granger, Iowa; Jim Richter of Ogden, Iowa; Jon Richter and Tom Richter, both of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Doug Fassler of Storm Lake; Kris (Joe) Moon of Storm Lake; Lisa Fassler and fiancé, Bob Hass, of Rapid City, South Dakota; Scott Fassler of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Charlotte Richter, Kaylee Richter, and Riley Richter, all of Granger, Iowa; Jayme Richter and fiancé, Mandy Demers, of Albert City, Iowa; Kari Richter of Spencer, Iowa; Kyle Richter and Brenna Richter, both of Storm Lake; and great-grandchildren: Dakota Richter, Kailee Richter, Takoda Krauel, Tyler Moon and Lexi Moon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Augusta Richter; his brothers and sisters: Anna, August, Linda, Esther and Ed; his wife, Charlotte; his daughter, Sharon Fassler; and special friend, Lucille Lorenzen.

Calvin R. “Cal” Tuttle

Calvin R. “Cal” Tuttle, age 79, of Newell died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

Memorial services for Mr. Tuttle will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, where the family will be present during the entire visitation. A Masonic Lodge service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home during visitation hours.

Calvin Richard Tuttle was born February 9, 1929 on a farm in Douglas Township, Sac County, Iowa, the son of Leonard C. and Eunice Grace (Menier) Tuttle. Calvin attended country school for one year, after which he went to school in Newell. He enjoyed sports during his youthful school days before graduating from Newell High School in 1947.

Following high school graduation, Calvin joined the United States Air Force. He served honorably during the era between World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On March 2, 1949, Calvin was united in marriage to Ardis Husted at Randolph Field Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas. The couple was blessed with four children: Loretta “Lorie”, Mark, Scott and James.

Calvin was a steadfast steward of the land for his entire life. He loved farming and the family-oriented lifestyle it made possible. He was in the dairy business through 1987, and he had a seed corn business for many years.

Calvin attended the Methodist Church in his youth, but was baptized in the Lutheran faith on the occasion of his daughter’s baptism. He has been a faithful and very active member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell since 1951, serving in many capacities and in several offices.

Calvin was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, including his years of membership in the Consistory and as a Shriner. He also was generous in the time he gave back to his community, serving three terms on the Loring Hospital Board of Directors. He also helped spearhead the effort to establish a medical clinic in Newell.

An avid fisherman, Calvin escaped with his fishing rod whenever possible. He was a licensed pilot and thoroughly enjoyed flying his Piper Cherokee airplane. He owned a motorcycle, and he and Ardis liked to slip away for motorcycle rides. He treasured the special trips he took with his sons.

A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, family meant the world to Calvin. His caring presence will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Ardis Tuttle of Newell; his daughter, Lorie Colshan of Newell; his son, Mark (Diane) Tuttle of Newell; his son Scott (Lori) Tuttle of Ogden, Iowa; his son, James Tuttle of Newell; grandchildren Ryan Siddens, Dr. Jenny Tuttle, Aaron Tuttle, Chris Neve, Dr. Joel Tuttle, Kristin Tuttle and Ross Tuttle; one sister, Helen Cassidy of California; a brother-in-law, Pete Petrosky of Eddy, Texas; a sister-in-law, Elva (Peter) Jorgensen of Santa Barbara, California; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, June Tuttle and Martha Petrosky, and son-in-law, Richard Colshan.
