Patricia Kinney

Patricia Lucile Kinney, age 76, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at her home. Private family services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2005.

Patricia was born November 20, 1928 to Harry H. and Pauline (Brothers) Jersey in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following her high school graduation, Patricia was married to Robert Kinney. Four sons blessed their marriage: Gene, Tim, Jeffrey and Michael. Patricia and Robert later divorced.

Patricia was a devoted mother who loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She enjoyed painting ceramic houses and searching for various collectibles.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Gene Kinney of Meriden, Iowa, Timothy Kinney of Meriden, Iowa, Jeffrey Kinney of Storm Lake, Iowa and Michael and his wife Sarah Kinney of Holstein, Iowa; her grandchildren: Zachary Kinney of Crosby, Minnesota, Levi Kinney of LeMars, Iowa, Gina Kinney of LeMars, Iowa and Miranda Newland of Ohio; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents.

Phyllis Whited

Phyllis Whited, age 79, of Early, Iowa died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Faith United Assembly of God Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Jerry Greenwalt officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in Early. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2005 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Phyllis Jean Minser was born September 18, 1925 south of Early, Iowa, the daughter of Amos and Gertrude (Libby) Minser. She attended the Lake View Schools, graduating from Lake View High School with the Class of 1943.

On April 16, 1946, Phyllis was united in marriage to Norton H. Stephens in Wall Lake, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: Marty, Randy, Gary, Doug and Jeff. In 1968, Phyllis married Richard P. Whited in Omaha, Nebraska.

Phyllis enjoyed playing the piano and singing, and shared her talents readily with those in retirement homes and also for the radio. She liked to plant large gardens each year and then canned the bounty she harvested. You could often find her working on the jigsaw or crossword puzzles that she loved. She was a faithful and active member of Faith United Assembly of God in Storm Lake. Above all, Phyllis prized her family and treasured the time she could spend with them. Her presence will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are her five sons: Marty and wife JoAnn Stephens of Phoenix, Arizona; Randy and wife Susan Stephens of Dodge City, Kansas; Gary and wife Jeanne Stephens of Independence, Minnesota; Doug and wife Tammy Stephens of Alta, Iowa; and Jeff and wife Rhonda Stephens of Jackson, Minnesota. Also surviving are her brothers: Earl and wife Norma Minser of Mayville Wisconsin and Bob and wife Gini Minser of Durango, Colorado; one sister, Carol and husband Wade Oryel of Jacksonville, Florida; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members and a host of friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Gertrude Minser, husband Richard Whited, and sister Thelma Gosch.

Ruth E. Arends

Ruth E. Arends, age 82, of Newell, Iowa died at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, March 17, 2005.

Funeral Services will be Friday, March 25, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell, with Reverend Michael Harmon officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on two days: Tuesday, March 22nd and Wednesday, March 23rd from 5:00-8:00 pm each day at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, where family will be present.

Ruth Evelyn Fitchett was born September 21, 1922 in rural Newell to Orson and Mary (Johnson) Fitchett. She lived with her family on their farm outside Newell where she attended Newell consolidated schools and graduated in 1941. Ruth was baptized and confirmed in 1941 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. She remained a faithful and active member, serving as a Sunday school teacher, on Ladies Aid, the Altar Guild and with the Quilting Group over the years.

On March 3, 1942, Ruth was united in marriage to Vernon John Arends at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. Their union was blessed with four children: Karen Kay, Keith Vernon, Reva Rae and Dale Robert.

Ruth was a proud community member, who attended the Newell-Coon Neighbors and the Newell Community Club. In addition, she was a long time 4-H leader and served on the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.

Over the years, Ruth enjoyed traveling to Mission, Texas, where she and Vernon wintered for 20 years. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, handwork and quilting. Her family was very special to her and she loved to have them visit and to go to their homes. The many family visits and chats were priceless to her. cShe enjoyed the many baseball and basketball games which she was able to attend to watch the Newell kids and her grandchildren play.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Karen Nehring of Newell, Reva Arends of Newell and Dale Arends and his wife Lori of Newell; grandchildren: Wade and Cheri Nehring of Newell, Darcie and Jason Hendricksen of Sac City, Kari Thompson of Newell, Shelley and Bill Etyenhauser of Overland Park, Kansas, Karen Arends of Summerville, South Carolina, Janet and Dan Morano of Rockwall, Texas, Mark and Heather Arends of Omaha, Nebraska, Danielle Arends of Sioux City, Iowa and Rob Arends of Savage, Minnesota; great grandchildren: Justin Nehring, J.R. and Olivia Thompson, Claire and Brian Etzenhauser, Katelyn, Christopher and Jacob Morano, Amanda Dietsch; brother LeRoy Fitchett and his wife Elnora of Newell; sisters Fern Crowley of Storm Lake, Joyce Robbins and her husband Don of Alta and Pearl Marlatt of Newell; as well as many other family members and a host of friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Orson and Mary Fitchett; husband Vernon; son Keith; son-in-law Garland Nehring; sisters Doris Waterman and Jean Banks; and brother Ivan Fitchett.

Ruby Pewsey

Ruby Pewsey, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at her home in Otsego Place.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 1:30 pm at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake from 4:30 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2005, where the family will be present.

Ruby was born on August 27, 1911 in Hayes Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa to Emmett and Daisy (Pettyjohn) Anderson. She was baptized at the Truesdale Methodist Church and later confirmed at the same church. As a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she was active in Missionary and WSCS and taught Sunday School to primary children.

Ruby spent her youth in the community of Truesdale. She received her education in the Truesdale Consolidated School system, graduating from Truesdale High School.

On October 29, 1932, Ruby was united in marriage to Hobart W. Pewsey in Rembrandt, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Joan, William and Carol. Ruby often worked side by side with her husband on the farm and even won a Dekalb contour plowing contest. They moved to the Hayes community in 1945 to farm on the south shore of Storm Lake.

Ruby was an active community member, serving as officer in a number of clubs and lodges: Hayes Farmers Club, Homemakers Club, Country Neighbors and Farm Bureau. As a Rebekah in IOOF she served as Noble Grand and held most of the chairs. She was always ready for a game of cards with her family, with the lunch crowd at the Storm Lake Senior Center, and with residents at Methodist Manor and Otsego place, where she lived since 2002. Ruby took pleasure in the numerous winters she spent in Mesa, Arizona, and she liked to garden, crochet, quilt and play shuffleboard.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Joan and husband Johnny Clark of Papillion, Nebraska, Dr. William C. and wife Barbara Pewsey of Storm Lake, and Carol Perkinson of Mesa, Arizona. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Bill and wife Joni Pewsey of Glendale, Arizona, John Stickrod of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark and wife Sandi Stickrod of Omaha, Nebraska, Paul and wife Tammie Stickrod of Omaha, Nebraska, Jennifer and husband Ed Tullar of Alton, Iowa, Melissa and husband Chris Richter of Storm Lake, and Christopher Perkinson of Mesa, Arizona; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mettie Pewsey of Albion, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hobart; brother Everet Anderson; sister Bertha Monkelien; and grandson Charles Pewsey.

Doris “Jean” Berg

Doris “Jean” Berg, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Berg will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Interment will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, with committal services preceding the memorial service. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

Doris Jean Heikens was born May 26, 1927 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of George J. and Edna P. (Lancaster) Heikens. She received her education in the Storm Lake Community School, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1944.

On February 7, 1947, Jean was united in marriage to Francis W. “Bill” Foote. Bill died in October 1990. On May 7, 1995, Jean and Norm Berg were married.

Jean was employed as a service representative for Northwestern Bell Telephone for 14 years. In 1975 she became a realtor with Stille, Pierce and Pertzborn in Storm Lake, where she worked until her retirement in 1999. Jean was an active member of the Storm Lake community, giving of her time to help in many areas. She assisted with the Brownies, and worked diligently on Storm Lake’s Centennial celebration. She was instrumental in organizing the Storm Lake Centennial style show. Jean enjoyed decorating at Santa’s Workshop/Santa’s Castle for many years. She was an active and faithful member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Norm Berg of Storm Lake; her sister, Jo and her husband Vern Davis of Storm Lake; her stepson and his wife, Steve and Pam Berg of Storm Lake, and their children, Andy and Amy Berg; nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents; her first husband, Bill Foote; and two sisters, Marion Gebers and Majorie Molgaard.

Elsie Kacmarynski

Elsie Kacmarynski, age 74, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Father Al Reicks will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A family-led rosary will be recited at 3:30 and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00, both at the funeral home.

Elsie Rosella Boyd was born April 13, 1932 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Deruelle Barr Boyd and Ila Mae (Thayer) Boyd. She was baptized into the Methodist faith as an infant. Elsie graduated from Early High School in 1950.

On November 6, 1950, Elsie was united in marriage to Norbert Kacmarynski in Storm Lake. They were blessed with 14 children.

Elsie enjoyed gardening and needlework, she collected dolls, and she liked all kinds of cats. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. But above all, Elsie was a devoted wife and mother who loved to care for her family. Her kind and gentle presence will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Norbert, of Linn Grove; son Larry (Debbie)Kacmarynski of Rembrandt, Iowa; daughter Emma (Bob) Claypool of Bemidji, Minnesota; son Andy (Pam) Kacmarynski of Solon, Iowa; daughter Marlene (Jerry) Bibler of Peterson, Iowa; son Raymond (Barb) Kacmarynski of Ida Grove, Iowa; son Dennis (Mary) Kacmarynski of Spencer, Iowa; daughter Lauretta (Terry) Bauer of Audubon, Iowa; son Matthew Kacmarynski of Lennox, South Dakota; daughter Karen (Jeff) James of Alta, Iowa; son Steven (Vikki) Kacmarynski of Quincy, Illinois; daughter Linda (Randy) Nieman of Primghar, Iowa; daughter Angie (Paul) Niccum of Aurora, Colorado; 31 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; extended family and a host of friends.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Sue Kacmarynski; infant son Leo Kacmarynski; infant sister Dorothy Mae Boyd; sister Marian Wernimont; and her brother, James Boyd.

Kay Grau

Kay Elaine Grau, 70, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Newell, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2006, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20th, at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be at the Newell Cemetery under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell.

Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19th at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell.

Kay was born on November 24, 1935, in Marathon, Iowa the daughter of William and Ruth (Petersen) Raper. In 1948 she was baptized in the Methodist faith. Kay attended schools in Marathon, graduating in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Holger V. Grau on December 20, 1954, in the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. To this union two children Harlan and Kristi were born.

Kay was a homemaker and stay-at-home Mom who loved to take care of her family along with all the operations of the family farm. It could be said that the farm always took top priority. . She retired from her farm duties and farm bookkeeping in 1986 when they moved into Newell.

Survivors include her son Harlan V. Grau and his wife Sharon of Newell and her son-in-law, Robert Emmick and his wife Sue, of Omaha, Nebraska : along with two grandsons, Jason Emmick and Cameron Emmick both of Omaha. Other survivors include, two brothers and their wives: Mick and Delores Raper of Marathon and Jerry and Marge Raper of Ashville, North Carolina: and her two sisters and their husbands, Jeanne and Bob Branstetter of Okeechobee, Florida and Gayle and Dennis Goeders of Emmetsburg. Kay’s two brothers-in-law and their wives: Solon and Marge Grau of Ames and Leo and Berniece Grau of Storm Lake and two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Stilling and her husband Richard of Northridge, California and Ardyth Barber of Okoboji; and her many nieces and nephews also survivor her.

Her parents, William and Ruth Raper; husband, Holger; and daughter, Kristi Emmick preceded her in death.

Lyle Rachuy

Lyle Rachuy of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Connie Spitzack and Reverend Mark Youngquist officiating. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

On November 1, 2006 a funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Trinity American Lutheran Church Chapel in Waterloo, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the Church Chapel. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is also in charge of the arrangements.

Lyle was born November 11, 1934, in Waterloo, Iowa to Walter and Harriet (Comfort) Rachuy. He received his education in Waterloo, where he graduated with the Class of 1953 from Waterloo West High School. He elected to continue his education at Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. During his time at Iowa State, Lyle was a member of the Iowa State Baseball team and Pi Mu Epsilon Math Honorary.

On September 18, 1960, Lyle was united in marriage to Shirley A. Bearbower in Ames, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Sandra, Scott, David and Karla.

Lyle was an active member of the community, serving in many different venues. He was on the Board of Trustees at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center from 1993-present, Chairman from 1999-2001, currently the Secretary, as well as serving previously as both the Vice Chairman and Treasurer. In addition, Lyle was on the Board of Trustees at Methodist Manor from 1991-1999, Board of Directors at Lake Creek Country Club, where he had been a member since 1975; past member of Storm Lake Rotary Club, having served as the president for one year; past member of the Board of Directors of the Storm Lake Industrial Corporation.

Lyle was the District Manager of MidAmerican Energy in Storm Lake, prior to his retirement on January 31, 1992.

Over the years, Lyle enjoyed playing golf, watching sports on T.V., computer activities and traveling. Above all, Lyle treasured his family and the time he spent with them. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. His presence will be missed in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Shirley Rachuy of Storm Lake; children: Scott Rachuy and his wife Kathy of Ankeny, Iowa, David Rachuy and his wife Cathyrn of West Des Moines, Karla Bond and her husband, Robert of Urbandale, Iowa; three grandchlildren: Cody Rachuy, Trevor Rachuy, and Margret Rachuy; many other family members and a host of friends.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Harriet Rachuy and his daughter, Sandra Rachuy.

Lloyd Wise

Lloyd Wise, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Memorial Services for Mr. Wise will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held for one hour at the church prior to the service.

Lloyd W. Wise was born September 22, 1917 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of George F. and Grace (Snyder) Wise. He was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant at the Presbyterian Church in Sulphur Springs; he later confirmed his faith at the same church. Lloyd received his education in the Sulphur Springs school, graduating from Sulphur Springs High School with the Class of 1935.

On March 10, 1941, Lloyd was united in marriage to Katherine Keller at the University Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa. Lloyd was a farmer for many years and also worked in the maintenance department of Buena Vista County for 15 years. He retired in April 1983.

Lloyd was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, where he served as a deacon and usher, a member of the Elks Lodge in Storm Lake and Kiwanis Golden K service organization. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and playing cards. Lloyd will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, a beloved brother and a valued friend.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Katherine Wise of Storm Lake; a sister, Edna Jensen of Tyler, Minnesota; sister-in-law Rose Wise of Los Angeles, California; extended family and many friends.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lynn and Russell; and one sister, Mary Watts.
