Marie E. Miller

Marie Miller, age 98, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Services are pending at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Funeral services for Mrs. Miller will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. and a Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m., both at the funeral home during visitation hours.

A memorial fund in Mrs. Miller’s honor has been established.

Marie Elizabeth Raymond was born July 10, 1909 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Karl and Betty (Trullason) Raymond. On May 30, 1930, Marie was married to Elmer Miller in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Bonnie, Elmer “Sonny” and Darlene. Marie and Elmer farmed in the Quimby, Alta and Schaller, Iowa areas before they bought a farm in Jackson, Minnesota. They moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1959, where they owned and operated a motel for many years. They remained in Spencer during their retirement years. Elmer died on January 28, 1992. Marie lived at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake since 2000.

Marie enjoyed playing bingo, cards and board games. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She treasured her family and the time she spent with them was precious to her. Her kind and caring ways will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Bonnie Eckerman of Storm Lake; her son, Elmer “Sonny” (Vivian) Miller of Prescott, Arizona; her daughter, Darlene (Donald) Saathoff of Baxter, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchidren; one sister, May Barry of Sutherland, Iowa; sister-in-law, Alvira Tentinger of Remsen, Iowa; brother-in-law Don Barry of Spencer, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; grandson Ricki Eckerman; son-in-law Romane Eckerman; brothers Harold Raymond and Harry Raymond; sisters Viola Raymond, Edith Linneman, Marge Farquhar and Eldora Barry.

Paul N. Jones

Paul N. Jones, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Funeral Services for Mr. Jones will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Pastor Connie Spitzack officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

Paul Newton Jones was born April 23, 1924 in Carroll County, Iowa, the son of Berthel M. and Ethel (Wallingford) Jones. He was baptized on July 2, 1933 in the Church of Christ in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Paul grew up and attended school at Coon Rapids, graduating from Coon Rapids High School in 1942.

Paul entered the United States Navy on December 21, 1942. He served during World War II until his honorable discharge on January 18, 1946 at the rank of Seaman First Class.

Following his military service, Paul returned to Iowa and began farming. He farmed near Coon Rapids and later near Cherokee, Iowa. It was then he elected to continue his education at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1959 and went on to earn his master’s degree from the University of South Dakota in 1961.

On June 18, 1950, Paul was married to Cora LaVerne Anderson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. They were blessed with a daughter, Marcia Kay.

Paul spent most of his life as a teacher and educator until he retired in June of 1998. He was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and the National Educators Association. Paul also held membership in the Storm Lake Elks Lodge and the Alta V.F.W. He was a faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

Paul’s first love was always his family and he treasured the time he spent with his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchild. His quiet, caring presence will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, LaVerne, of Storm Lake; three grandchildren: Nathan Paul Smith, Verity Shay Jones and Kirstyn Doré Jones, all of Peterson, Iowa; one great-grandchild, Emily Jade Smith; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Berthel and Ethel Jones; his daughter, Marcia on June 24, 2005; and his brother, Robert Marion Jones.

Ruth G. Johnson

Ruth G. Johnson, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Schaller, Iowa, died on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.

Ruth Genevieve Parkinson was born on November 14, 1916 in Lake View, Iowa to William Henry and Mabel Gladys (Spade) Parkinson. She attended rural schools in Sac County, Iowa.

On March 5, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Gustav Johnson in Schaller, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Carol, Elaine, Kenneth and Roger.

Ruth was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, where she was on the Ladies Aid committee. In addition, Ruth was active in the Clover Club in Schaller and volunteered in the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s coffee shop. She enjoyed cooking, baking and watching the Chicago Cubs. Ruth cherished the time she spent with her family and loved to spoil them with her baked goods. She was an avid fan of playing cards and other games as well.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Carol Regennitter of Vancouver, Washington, Elaine Georg and special friend, Don Jamieson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Roger Johnson and his wife, Kathy of Spencer, Iowa and her daughter-in-law, Peggy Johnson of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren: Brian Regennitter of LaCenter, Washington, Jennifer Georg of Fort Dodge, Staci (Shawn) Adam of Eldon, Iowa, Brett Georg of Fort Dodge, Scott (Julie) Johnson of Topeka, Kansas, Ryan (Tabitha) Johnson of Topeka, Kansas, Heather Johnson of Chicago, Illinois, Keith Johnson of Odenton, Maryland, Joshua Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa; eight great grandchildren: Emily Regennitter, Ryanna and Tyreese Hill, Alexis and Brodie Adam, Kyleigh Johnson, Andrew and Travis Johnson; and other extended family and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gustav; her son, Kenneth; two infant daughters; one great granddaughter, Emma Johnson; sister, Mildred Herbert; brothers: Albert and Clarence Parkinson; and son-in-law Rodney Regenitter.

William E. Young

William E. “Bill” Young, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Services for Mr. Young will be held Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Alta VFW Post 6172. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

William E. Young was born March 10, 1917 at Traer, Iowa, the son of William E., Sr. and Emma (Krezek) Young. He attended school in Pierson, Iowa before graduating from high school in Alta, Iowa. He continued his education at National Business Training College in Sioux City, Iowa before joining his father in the petroleum business.

Bill proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force. He entered service September 28, 1942 and was with the 85th and 2540 Base Units at Metagorda Island, Texas and served overseas on Tinian Island. He was honorably discharged February 10, 1946.

On September 30, 1938, Bill was united in marriage to Doris Stieneke at Storm Lake. They were blessed with two children, Pamela and Richard. Bill worked in automotive parts management until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, as well as a past member of the Lions Club and a past charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed wood carving in his spare moments. A loving husband and devoted father, Bill loved his family above all and treasured the time he spent with them. His caring presence will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Pamela (Jim) Olson of Winterset, Iowa; son Richard (Liz) Young of Columbus, Nebraska; grandchildren: Jeff (Angie) Olson of Winterset; Amy (Rick) Straight of Lorimor, Iowa; Bill (Kristin) Olson of Indianola, Iowa; Alicia (Paul) Fults of San Jacinto, California; Leslie (Cade) Thibodeaux of Fort Collins, Colorado; Lindsay Young of Boulder, Colorado and Nicholas (Ashley) Young of Columbus, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Karly Olson, Shae Olson, Mia Olson, Ryan Hinsch and Colby Hinsch; extended family and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Young, and his wife, Doris Young.

Dorothy L. Ploeger

Dorothy L. Ploeger, age 66, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ploeger will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at E&R Church Cemetery in rural Schaller, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home will in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Dorothy Louise Hogrefe was born July 31, 1941 to Herman, Jr. and Louise Hogrefe in Holstein, Iowa. Dorothy’s childhood was spent in the Cushing and Holstein, Iowa area. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1959; she then attended nursing training in Sioux City, Iowa at St. Vincent’s. Dorothy then worked in Cherokee until she married Lorence G. Ploeger of Galva, Iowa on October 6, 1962. They were blessed with three children: Marie Louise, Patricia Kay and James Allen. Dorothy also worked as a nurse for Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake. She retired in 1983.

She leaves her husband, Lorence of Storm Lake; two daughters: Marie Bruns and husband, Dale of Galva; Patricia Wilhelm and husband, David of Schaller, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jennifer Marie Bruns and special friend, Denis Matheis of Aurelia, Iowa; Jonathon Dale Bruns and special friend, Elissa Jordt of Galva; James Henry Bruns and special friend, Jessica Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa; and Elizabeth Lynn Wilhelm and Wyatt William of Schaller; her parents, Herman and Louise Hogrefe, Jr. of Holstein; brother- and sister-in-law Lorn and Elaine Johannsen of Paullina, Iowa; extended family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, James Allen Ploeger; and her father- and mother-in-law, Clarence and Zoa Ploeger.

Dietrich E. “Dee” Reimann

Dietrich E. “Dee” Reimann, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Richmond, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial graveside services for Mr. Reimann will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008 at Dale Memorial Park Cemetery in Chesterfield, Virginia. Burial with full military rites will be performed by United States Navy. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 3716, Sioux City, Iowa 51102.

Dee was born October 16, 1925 in Reichenbach, Poland, the son of Ernest and Selma (Sabsch) Reimann. He immigrated to the United States with his family and later graduated from East Orange High School in New Jersey in 1943.

On July 1, 1943, Dee entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. On July 23, 1946, Dee was honorably discharged at the rank of Ensign.

He was united in marriage to Carol A. Szikora on October 11, 1947 in New Jersey. The couple was blessed with six children: Susan, Sally, Nancy, John, Tom and Carol Jean (C.J.).

Dee continued his education at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. While working for Reynolds Metals for 40 years, his work took him all over the world. Dee always made it possible for his family to spend summers in New Jersey. Dee loved all kinds of animals, the beach and had a real passion for playing racquetball and squash. He and Carol enjoyed the time they shared gardening at the family home. Dee took very good care of his family while the whole family lived in: Mexico City, Colombia, Spain and Germany. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Susan (Peter) Rutledge of Sarasota, Florida; Sally Brecher of Storm Lake, Iowa; Nancy (Paul) Rader of Tustin, California; John (Margaret) Reimann of Portland, Maine; Thomas (Susan) Reimann of Richmond, Virginia; and Carol Jean (David) Fevola of Atlanta, Georgia; 16 grandchildren: Sally Ann, Carol, Katie, Timothy, John, Gina, Lisa, Kari, Erin, Katie, Caroline, Jennifer, Thomas, Stephen, John and David; three great-grandchildren: Danielle, Ben and Summer; a sister-in-law, Jean Malizia of Bradley Beach, New Jersey; extended family and many friends.

Dee was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and one son-in-law, Chet Brecher.

Hailey Deborah Foell

Hailey Deborah Foell, infant daughter of Nick and Kim Foell of Storm Lake, Iowa, was born Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She died the same day.

Private family services for Hailey were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Reverend Bruce Lawler celebrated the Mass of the Angels. Burial is in St. Mary’s church Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Nick and Kim Foell; maternal grandparents Dave and Debbie Nielsen of Fremont, Nebraska; paternal grandparents Jim and Terry Foell of Storm Lake; paternal great-grandparents: Dick and Pat Johnson and Helen Foell of Storm Lake; maternal great-grandparents: Dennis and Doris Kreikemeier and Leo and Genie Gerken, both of West Point, Nebraska, and Ray Nielsen of Fremont, Nebraska; aunts and uncles: Jamey and Amy Wojciechowski of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bret and Mindy Wiltse of Burlington, Iowa; and Jeff Foell and Jon Foell of Storm Lake; Tammy Nielsen, Scott Nielsen and Vicki Nielsen, all of Fremont, Nebraska; plus many cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

Hailey was preceded in death by her sister, Madison Lee Foell on January 23, 2006; maternal grandfather, Richard Gerken; her maternal great-grandmother, Edith Pauline Nielsen; and her paternal great-grandfather, Richard Foell.

Harold Whitmer

Harold Whitmer, age 87, of Galva, Iowa died on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 31, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Galva. Burial will be in the Galva East Township Cemetery with military rites by the Galva American Legion. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 6-8:00 pm, Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Galva where the family will be present.

Harold B. Whitmer was born on August 18, 1920 to Orville D. and Hazel M. (Blackburn) Whitmer in Washta, Iowa. He attended school in Galva, graduating from Galva High School in 1938.

On July 18, 1948, Harold was united in marriage to Jean Steele. To this union, two children were born: Heidi and Linda. On July 8, 1995, Harold married Dorothy Cloud at which time he welcomed her children, Mary, Ken and Don, into the family.

Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp, where he was stationed in Texas during WWII.

Over the years, Harold was an active member of the Galva American Legion, a 50 year member of the Grand Lodge of Morningside. He held position in all the offices of the Abu Bekr Shriners, as well as taking part in the Shriner program “Hospital Dads”. In addition, Harold was also a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church in Galva.

Harold cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping and fishing. His woodworking was a great pastime, for which his family can continue to see evidence of his talent.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy of Galva; his children: Heidi Stewart and her husband Mark of Tucson, Arizona and Linda O’Kane of Sioux City, Iowa; step-children: Mary Dencklau, Ken Cloud and his wife Linda and Don Cloud and his wife JoAnn, all of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jean; three brothers; and one sister.

Jane E. Mohror

Jane Elaine Mohror, age 74, of Peterson, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia, Iowa.

Memorial services for Mrs. Mohror will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Peterson, with Reverend Charlie Hall officiating. Private family committal services will be held at St. John’s Church Cemetery in rural Peterson. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Jane Elaine was born on June 6, 1933 in Cherokee, Iowa to Earl and Jane Ellen (Munson) Covey. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1952. Jane then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

On June 14, 1959 Jane was united in marriage to Emmett Keith Mohror at St. John’s Church south of Peterson, Iowa. Jane brought into this world six children: Peter, Kirk, Eric, Adam, Andrew and Susan.

Jane started her career path as a teacher and spent the last part of her career with the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, first as a floor aide and later, after completing her degree in Long Term Health Care Administration, as an administrator for numerous facilities across the state of Iowa. Jane officially retired in 1999, but continued as an interim administrator until her latest illness forced her into full retirement in 2007.

Jane’s love for God and Jesus was evident everyday and she lived her life as a devoted Christian which allowed her to touch the lives of family and friends with love, warmth, and humor. She was an active member of St. John’s Church. Jane had a love for dogs from her first, Jodie, through the many that she and other family members brought home. She was active in many community groups including the Heritage Society, Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary, the Rushing Brook Club, Women’s Federation, and former member of the Peterson City council. Jane loved to go camping, spending many weekends with her husband Keith and what ever dog they had at the time, enjoying the quiet solitude of nature.

Left to cherish Jane’s memories are her husband of 48 years, Keith Mohror of Peterson; children: Peter Mohror and his companion Kathy Morrison of West Des Moines, Iowa; Kirk Mohror and his wife Pat of Spokane, Washington; Eric Mohror and his wife Erin of Peterson; Adam Mohror and his wife Beth of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Andrew Mohror of Peterson; and Susan Studer and her husband Richard of Estherville, Iowa; grandchildren: Joshua and Trevor Mohror, Jacob and Krista Johnson of Spokane, Washington; Laurren and Nathan Mohror of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Derrick and Caleb Mohror of Peterson; Veronica and Matthew Studer of Estherville, Alan Studer and his wife Kathleen of Willard, Ohio; great-grandchildren; Kylie Esposito of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Dystany, Paris, and Micheal Studer of Willard, Ohio; two brothers: Jim Covey and his wife Mary of Clive, Iowa; and Mark Covey and his wife Karen of Morrison, Colorado; sister-in-law: Betty Franken of Schaller, Iowa; many extended family and friends.

Jane Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Jane Ellen Covey.
