Ilene Burling
Myrtle Ilene Coeur Burling, 91, of Carthage, Ill., died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.
Born Aug. 15, 1913, in Peoria, Ill., she was the daughter of August and Amy Bullock Coeur. On Jan. 26, 1933, she married Marshall L. Burling in Ferris, Ill. He died Sept. 19, 1999.
Mrs. Burling worked at Halbach Schroeder for nine years and Block & Kuhl, both in Quincy, Ill.
She moved with her parents to a farm in Sonora Township, where she lived until her marriage. She lived in Ferris until moving to Quincy in 1941. She joined the Toastmasters Club and was past president and was active in Vermont Street United Methodist Church while in Quincy. She moved to Carthage in 1956, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Triangle Sunday school class. She also was a 50–year member of Grace Chapter No. 67 Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one nephew; two nieces, and two sisters–in–law, Maxine Lucille Bell and Norma Jeannette Guymon, both of Carthage.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter.
There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.
A graveside service for Mrs. Burling will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Moss Ridge Cemetery
in Carthage, with the Rev. William Pyatt officiating.
A memorial has been established for Hancock County Nursing Home.
Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
John Fenton
John "Bill" Fenton, 91, of Mount Pleasant died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, in Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant. Arrangements are pending at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.
Janis L. Haas
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Janis L. Haas, 56, will be 10:00 AM this morning in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with the Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice. Michael L. Trautner
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Michael Lee Trautner, 57, who passed away February 2, 2005, are pending at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home.
Joyce Peterson
Joyce Nyberg Peterson of Charleston, S.C., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.
Born in Oakville, she was the daughter of Raymond and Hilda Wunnenberg Nyberg.
She was a former nurse.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Quam of Charleston; two sons, Allen Donald Peterson of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and James Raymond Peterson of Herndon, Va.; one brother, Harold Nyberg of Burlington; and one sister, Doris Waddell of Mount Vernon.
A private burial is planned.

Virgil Mills
Virgil Mills, 92, of Port Isabel, Texas, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Valley Grande Manor in Brownsville, Texas.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a public Masonic service at 7 p.m.
The graveside service for Mr. Mills will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cedar Creek Cemetery.
Norma Martin
Norma Martin, age 88, of rural Columbus Junction, died Wednesday morning, March 9th at her country home after an extended illness. Services for Norma Martin are pending with the Stacy–Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction.
Robert Pfeiffer
Robert J. Pfeiffer, 76, of Wayland, Mo., died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Mo.
Born May 3, 1927, near Wyaconda, Mo., he was the son of Raymond and Ina Kerner Pfeiffer.
Mr. Pfeiffer was a lifetime farmer near Wayland until retiring.
He took great pride in farming and caring for his machinery. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wayland and was active in the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed building model airplanes and visiting friends on his scooter.
Survivors include one sister–in–law, Wilma Pfeiffer, of Peoria, Ill.; one niece, Julie Pfeiffer of Chicago; as well as several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Pfeiffer will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Wayland, with the Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Wayland Fire Department and Wayland First Baptist Church.
Ruth Foster
Ruth Aileen Foster, 82, of Ames, formerly of Burlington, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames.
Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Pressley and Agatha Imbler Giles and the foster daughter of Paul and Ester Kious of Kahoka, Mo. On March 16, 1941, she married Billy Grant Foster in Kahoka. He preceded her in death.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two sons, Jon Foster of LeMars and David Foster of Nevada; one daughter, Deborah Switzer of Nevada; seven grandchildren; and two great–grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, foster parents, one son, one sister and one brother.
Per Mrs. Foster's wishes, she was cremated and burial was in Nevada Memorial Cemetery.
Bacon Funeral Home in Neva–da was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial get together will be May 21 at the home of her daughter in Nevada.
Tyrese Hagelstein
Tyrese Jordan Hagelstein, 5 months, of rural Keosauqua, died Monday, April 11, 2005, at his home.
Born Oct. 31, 2004, in Iowa City, he was the son of Adam and Barbara Moore Hagelstein.
He lived his life in rural Keosauqua.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Marquise Moore and Caleb Hagelstein, both at home; grandparents, Ron Hagelstein of Columbus, Neb., Shannon Elsner of York, Neb., Dan Moore of Stockham, Neb., Dorothy Moore of Libertyville and Earl and Carol Hagelstein of Omaha, Neb.; and great–grandparents, Marylu Strickland of Harvard, Neb, and Doug and Judy Johnson of Columbus.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
The funeral for Tyrese Hagelstein will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
A memorial has been established.
Ronald "Zip" LeKander
Mr. Ronald "Zip" D. LeKander, 67, of Burlington, died at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his home.
Born December 12, 1937, at Geneva, Illinois, he was the son of Doris and Norman Peters LeKander. On November 2, 1957, he married Darlene Dutcher in Davenport.
Mr. LeKander was the owner of LeKander Construction, ZD Rentals, and Zippo CTM. He was a past owner of the Iowa Tavern and a one–time part owner of 34 Raceways.
He was of the Protestant faith and was a member of the Eagles, Shoquoquon Boat Club and International Operating Engineers Local No. 150. He loved boating, fishing, NASCAR racing, Harley Davidson Motorcycles and every animal. He was a Dale Ernhardt, Sr. fan. He owned late model race cars and was a very successful driver and owner for over 30 years. He won the very first Championship in the Cadet Class in 1966 at 34 Raceway, the year the track opened.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Darlene LeKander of Burlington; one daughter, Nickee Scott (Newt Howard) of Bushnell, Illinois; one son, Bob (Michelle) LeKander of Burlington; four grandchildren, LaTisha Scott of Rapid City, South Dakota, Stephanie Scott of Macomb, Illinois, Jillian LeKander and Ashley LeKander both of Burlington; two great grandchildren, Calvin Olson of Bushnell, Illinois and Khali Scott of Macomb; two sisters Karen (Danny) Carbrera and Sharon (Jack) Fraizer both of Galesburg; and one niece and three nephews.
His parents; grandparents; and one uncle, David Peters, preceded him in death.
Memorials have been established for PAWS Animal Shelter of Fort Madison and Des Moines County Animal Shelter of Burlington.
Wilbur Ranck
Wilbur "Web" Louis Ranck, 79, of New London died at 3:54 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 8, 1925, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Roy Robert and Estella Fern Jarvis Ranck. On June 9, 1946, he married Ethel Pauline Pickard in Jefferson County.
Mr. Ranck was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1994. He also was a salesman for Old Gold Seed corn. He worked at the Middletown Sales Barn for 20 years and at the Wayland and Wapello sales barns.
He was a graduate of Pleasant Lawn High School. He enjoyed gong to sales in Keosauqua.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James Leroy Ranck of Burlington; two daughters, Geraldine Marie Dickerson of Townsend, Tenn., and Penny Sue Smith of Danville; six grandchildren; and five great–grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated according to his wishes.
The memorial service for Mr. Ranck will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with Pastor Sue Tomlinson officiating,
