Margaret C. Zweifel

Margaret Zweifel, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. that day at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present 6:00-8:00 p.m. There will be a Legion of Mary rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. during visitation hours at the funeral home.

Margaret C. Schmit was born on March 26, 1916 to Theodore and Clara (Braun) Schmit in Windom, Minnesota. Her family moved to the Leeds area of Sioux City, Iowa where she attended schools at Hawthorne Grade School and Woodrow Wilson Junior High.

She was baptized as an infant into the Catholic faith and later confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux City, where she remained an active member until 1984. Her membership was then transferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Margaret had served on the Guild and was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

On May 18, 1934, Margaret was united in marriage to Jacob Zweifel in Sioux City. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Clara Marie.

Margaret valued her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren. She was a woman who possessed a great sense of family, as evidenced by her caring for her own mother for years. She worked hard to maintain a loving and comfortable home for her family. Over the years, Margaret enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, while in Sioux City. Upon her move to Storm Lake, she found further enjoyment in assisting at Ressler Drug in Storm Lake.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Clara Marie Porsch of Storm Lake; her three grandchildren: Michael Porsch and wife, Lori of Storm Lake, Cathy Fordyce and husband, Mark of Aurelia, Iowa and Mark Porsch of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Josh Fordyce and wife Nikki of Sioux City, Brad Fordyce and wife, Molly of Sioux City, Tara Fordyce of Aurelia, Alyssa, Nate and Jake Porsch of Storm Lake; nephew Robert Allard and wife Judy, and niece Carol Ann Tatloff and husband Larry, all of Rockford, Illinois; extended family and many friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob, in 1999; her son-in-law, Darrell Porsch; one brother, Leo Schmit; and one sister, Anna Allard.

Pauline Cramer

Pauline Cramer, age 90, of Audubon, Iowa and formerly of Newell, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Friendship Home in Audubon.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Cramer will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call between 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, where the family will be present for the entire time of visitation.

Pauline Lucille Kelly was born May 16, 1917 in Buena Vista County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Johnson) Kelly. She received her education at the Nemaha schools, graduating from Nemaha High School in 1935. Pauline continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She then taught country school for five years.

On June 15, 1941, Pauline was united in marriage to Fred Cramer in Early, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two children: Bill and Martha (Marty). Pauline and Fred enjoyed a long and happy wedded life. They would have been married 67 years this coming June.

Pauline was a loving wife and devoted mother who kept a warm and comfortable home for her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Newell, where she served on various boards, taught Sunday School, was a past president of the United Methodist Women, and sang at many church events. She was a member of the Danish Brother- and Sisterhood, Sac County Chorus, served as a 4-H Leader, was past president of the Newell Senior Center, delegate to the Storm Lake Senior Citizens Center, served on the advisory board of the Newell Good Samaritan Center, and was involved in the Newell Centennial preparation, to name but a few of Pauline’s civic service activities.

She enjoyed playing in various card groups, sewing, going fishing, and dancing with Fred. Pauline’s family was her greatest treasure and she held a special place in her heart for her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Fred, of Audubon; son Bill (Kathy) Cramer of Audubon; daughter Marty (Chuck) Petzoldt of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren: Brian (Sherri) Cramer of Creston, Iowa and their children Jessica, Caleb and Olivia; Bradley (Natalie) Cramer, presently of Germany, and their son, Kaden; and Kelli Petzoldt of Mason City, Iowa and her son, Brayden; extended family and many friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mildred Larsen; and her brothers, Walt Kelly and Lester Kelly.

Ronald L. “Rusty” Mohler

Ronald L. “Rusty” Mohler, age 71, of Dassel, Minnesota and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at his home in Dassel.

There will be visitation from 4-8:00 p.m. and a time of sharing at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Anderson Auditorium at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in the Laurens Cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Ronald LeRoy Mohler was born on November 29, 1936 in Palo Alto County, Iowa to Kenneth L. and Bernice L. (Richardson) Mohler. He attended grade school in Sioux Rapids and Laurens, both in Iowa, before graduating from Laurens High School in 1954. Rusty earned a football scholarship to attend Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Morningside in 1958. In 2006, he was inducted into the Morningside Football Hall of Fame.

On April 10, 1959, Rusty was united in marriage to Diane L. Osier in Laurens. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Callie. The Mohler family made their home in Laurens from 1959 to1968. They moved to Storm Lake in 1968, where Rusty worked as District Manager for Thermogas until his retirement in 1995. Rusty and Diane remained in Storm Lake until September 2007, when they moved to Minnesota to be closer to family.

Rusty had a true zest for life. He loved coaching softball, especially teaching youth how to pitch. His first pitching student was his daughter. It was this talent which brought him to Buena Vista University where he was the pitching coach for 26 years. In addition, Rusty pitched in Men’s Fast Pitch League for the towns of Havelock, Plover, Aurelia and Alta (Iowa) for 27 years. Rusty liked to bowl, and he immensely enjoyed working as a member of the pit crew for the Gale White Race Team of Laurens. Rusty’s love of life was evident by his membership in the Optimistic Club, and his belief in young people was clear by his work with the Partners for Youth organization. He also was a sponsor of the Storm Lake Balloon Days for many years.

The most important thing in Rusty’s life was his family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Most recently, Rusty was helping his grandson, Tanner, with baseball techniques and was looking forward to working with Camryn in softball.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 49 years, Diane of Dassel, Minnesota; his daughter, Callie Sullivan and her husband Craig of Dassel, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Tanner and Camryn; two sisters: Cynthia Anderson and her husband Richard of Sioux Rapids; and Julie Gisch and her husband Kenneth of Laurens; one brother, Barry Mohler of San Antonio, Texas; his step-mother, Stella Mohler; extended family and a host of friends.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Floyd Dandy.

Dan Finnegan

Dan Finnegan, age 59, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Ruthven, Iowa, died Friday, January 30, 2004, at his home.

Memorial Services will be Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Burial will be in the church Cemetery.

Friends may call anytime after 4:00 p.m on Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friends who wish to send condolences to the family may do so online.

Daniel Anthony Finnegan was born on January 19, 1945, to George and Ruth (Myers) Finnegan at Ruthven, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Dan spent his elementary and high school years at Ruthven Community Schools. Following high school graduation, Dan served with the United States Navy from August 1965 through August 1968, which was during the Vietnam conflict. He attended Drake University where he graduated with honors in December 1972 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He held the position of Vice President of Underwriting for Allied Insurance Company and was an insurance administrator until his retirement.

On June 19, 1970, Dan was united in marriage to Janet Rouse at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. He and Jan would have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary next summer.

Dan enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and was an avid sports fan. He liked playing cards—especially Pinochle and Buck Euchre. Dan found great pleasure in just being around people; he especially enjoyed the innocence of youth and the wisdom of the elderly. He was always full of surprises and loved to make people laugh. Dan treated everyone well—he had a good heart and believed in living by the Golden Rule.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jan; his brothers: Bob and wife Ellie Finnegan, Dave Finnegan, Pat Finnegan, Mike and wife Liz Finnegan, Ken and wife Nancy Finnegan, Albert and wife Cecilia Finnegan, Ray and wife Pat Finnegan, Roger and wife Darlene Finnegan and Dennis Finnegan; his sisters: Rosanne and husband Max Girres, Mary and husband Ed Smith, and Francie and husband Dennis Anderson; and many extended family members and friends.

Preceding Dan in death were his parents, George and Ruth Finnegan, his brothers Tom Finnegan and Jim Finnegan; and sisters-in-law Jane Finnegan, Margie Finnegan and Doris Finnegan.

Dorothy Champion

Dorothy R. Champion, age 81, died Monday, September 27, 2004, at the Methodist Manor Nursing Home in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 525 Geisinger Rd., Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Forbes

Betty Forbes, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Private family burial at the Storm Lake Cemetery will be held prior to the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday, November 19, 2004 anytime after 4:00 p.m., where the family will greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Those who wish to send condolences may do so online.

Betty Louise Wilson was born October 23, 1926 to Eva and Jesse Wilson near Lanesboro, Iowa. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Lanesboro. Betty attended elementary school in Lanesboro and graduated from high school there. She then went on to attend Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for three years.

On June 15, 1947, Betty was united in holy matrimony with Wayne J. Forbes in Lanesboro. Their union was blessed with two daughters: Rebecca and Barbara.

Betty was a loving wife and devoted mother to her daughters. She treasured her family and the time she spent with them. In addition to making a warm and comfortable home for her family, Betty worked for a time as church secretary. She was a charter member of Wa-Tan-Ye, a member of P.E.O., volunteered to route deliveries for Meals on Wheels, and was a Girl Scout Leader, as well as a faithful member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of over 57 years, Wayne Forbes of Storm Lake; her daughters Rebecca Potere of Sarasota, Florida and Barbara J. Bell of Fort Myers, Florida; a grandson, Tony Potere of Sarasota, Florida; a brother, Jerry Wilson of Carroll, Iowa; as well as other extended family members and a host of friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents.

Anna Nou Thiphasouk

Anna Nou Thiphasouk, age 64, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Father Lowrey officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday, July 23, 2004 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Anna was born on August 23, 1939 to Vanla and Khammy Syharath in Paksane, Laos, and baptized into the Roman Catholic faith on August 26, 1939. She was married to Keo Thiphasouk on May 1, 1957 in Paksane. Their union was blessed with six sons and three daughters.

Anna was a loving wife, devoted mother, treasured grandmother, caring great-grandmother, precious sister and aunt, who delighted in making a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and being outdoors. She will be remembered by her children as the “best Mother” for which they could have asked.

Left to cherish Anna’s memory are her husband, Keo Thiphasouk of Storm Lake; sons: Eddie Thiphasouk and wife Sarah of Sioux City, Iowa, Allen Thiphasouk of Storm Lake, Lee Thiphasouk and wife Vawn of Ames, Iowa, and Phokham Thiphasouk and fiancee Tina of Storm Lake; daughters: Bountheo Thiphasouk and husband Kham of Laos, Bounnong Phakonekham of Storm Lake, Bounyong Chounlamany and husband Seng of Storm Lake; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her brother, Khamla Syharath and wife Bounraphanh of Algona, Iowa; and sister, Khamphay Sayavang and husband Soa of Storm Lake.

Preceding Anna in death were her parents; sons: Bounthan Thiphasouk and Khamvhanh Thiphasouk; brother, Khamphay Syharath; and her sister, Bouanlay Syharath.

Art Soellner

Art Soellner, age 78, of Galva, Iowa died on Monday, August 10, 2004 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 12, 2004 at 10:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites by the Schaller V.F. W. and the Galva American Legion. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Church where the family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Arthur Gustav Soellner was born November 23, 1925 in Galva, Iowa to Walter and Caroline (Paulsen) Soellner. He lived with his family in rural Galva, where he attended and graduated from Galva High School in 1943.

Art was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, where he had held the office of Trustee.

From 1944—1946, Art served his country with honor in the United States Navy with overseas duty in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific. His time was spent aboard the Navy battleship, USS Washington.

Art was united in marriage to Beverly Huseman on November 28, 1948. To this union three sons and three daughters were born: Doug, Brian, Dan, Vicki, Sue and Becky. Art’s life was the farm, but his love was his family.

Following Art’s honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a hired hand on farms in the Galva area before starting to farm for himself. He never retired from farming because of his love of the land. Art also enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking, attending grandchildren’s activities, gardening, playing cards and cribbage. He was active in his community for his entire life, serving on the Galva Union Elevator board, as a member of the Galva American Legion, and a life-long member of the Schaller VFW.

Art is survived by his sons: Doug (Sheila) Soellner of Galva, Brian (Rae) Soellner of Galva, Dan (Barb) Soellner of Storm Lake; daughters: Vicki (Jim) Woods, Jr. of Galva, Sue (Mark) Gray of Denison, and Becky (Rusty) Neely of Vancouver, Washington; mother-in-law, Gladys Huseman of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Chad (Lori) Woods, Nicole Woods, Casey Woods, Kent (Lynelle) Soellner, Kurt Soellner, Megan Soellner, Wes (Kendra) Gray, Jennifer Gray, Chris Gray, Tana Radke, Kelsey Radke, Keely Soellner, Abbi Soellner and Bethany Soellner; great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Max Arthur Woods; sisters: Lorene Anderson of Pocahontas, Emily Goettsch of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harold and Joan Brownmiller of Aurelia, Duane and Lucille Kent of Aurelia, Gilbert and Sharon Huseman of Muscatine, as well as a host of other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 1999; his parents; brothers-in-law, Eldon Anderson and Elvin Goettsch; and father-in-law, Martin Huseman.

Arthur R. Pender

Arthur R. Pender, age 87, of Schaller, Iowa died Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Schaller with Reverend Carol Gailey officiating. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on the same day as the memorial service, at the church, from 12:00 until service time.

Art was born October 7, 1917 to Jess and Sallie (Bateman) Pender in Bedford, Indiana. He was baptized in the Methodist religion in Lawrence County, Indiana. Art grew up in Indiana and attended the Schaswick Township School.

On January 7, 1940, Art was united in marriage to Marjorie J. Brisbois in South Dakota. They were blessed with three sons: Robert, Lloyd and Tom. Art was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed every moment he spent with his family. Art liked to spend his spare time playing golf and cards, doing wordbook puzzles, traveling and gardening.

Those left to cherish Art’s memory include his wife of nearly 65 years, Marge, of Schaller; his sons: Robert and wife Karen Pender of Alta, Iowa, Lloyd and wife Lynn Pender of Saginaw, Michigan, and Tom and wife Sharon Pender of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren: Traci DeWitt of Bailey, Colorado, Toni and Lewis Castor of Davenport, Iowa; Jennifer and Paul Van Steenhuyse of Bettendorf, Iowa, Brian and Nancy Pender of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dave Pender of Saginaw, Michigan, Kevin and Carol Pender of Saginaw, Michigan, Craig and Lorie Pender of Detroit, Michigan, Sallie and Rob Campbell of Alta, Iowa and Shane Pender of Kansas City, Missouri; step-grandchildren: Ron and Brian Underwood and Janelle, Emily and Jake Tucker; great-grandchildren: Samantha and Derek Pender, Tristin and Ashley Pender, Kyle and Alison Pender, Jadeyn Pender, Taylor Campbell and Curtis Castor; several step-great-grandchildren, as well as other extended family members and a host of friends.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary; and four brothers: Kenneth, William, Merrill and Jess, Jr.
