William Robert Dennis II

William “Bill” Robert Dennis II, age 54, of Newell, Iowa died suddenly at his home on Thursday, March 13, 2003.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, Iowa with Pastor Jamie Cutler officiating. Burial will be at a later date. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Newell. There will be no visitation.

William “Bill” Robert Dennis II was born October 22, 1948 the son of Roberta Melvin. They moved to Los Angeles, California when Bill was six years old. The family resided in the southern California area where he attended grade school and graduated. While in school, Bill belonged to the high school diving team.

Bill worked for General Motors for years, until he retired in 1976. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and tennis.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Infantry Division and served in the Vietnam War. Bill received an honorable discharge from the service.

Bill is survived by his mother, Roberta Melvin; children: Bryan Dennis and wife Pamela of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa, Darren Dennis and wife Cheryl of Spencer, Shawnette Cardenas and husband Frank of Orangeville, California, and Jerry Lawler and wife Ronda of Citrus Heights, California; brother, Terry Melvin and wife Cindy of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters: Trish Galloway of Reno, Nevada, and Pegan Pommerville and husband Barry of Newell; grandchildren: Sara and Karina; and other extended family and friends.

Arleta Cossman

Arleta Cossman, age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Assembly of God in Storm Lake, Iowa, with Reverend Darrell E. Schmid officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday, September 10, 2004 from 4:00-8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Arleta Mae Olson was born July 6, 1931 in Albert City, Iowa to Emanuel and Hedvig (Hultman) Olson. The family later moved to Storm Lake, where Arleta attended and graduated from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1949. She worked for Drs. Hansen and Prescott for a time, then spent many years employed by TWA Airlines in both Kansas City and San Francisco.

On July 2, 1954, Arleta was married to Lt. Colonel Donald R. Cossman at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. To this union three daughters and a son were born. They lived on an air base in Alaska before moving to various Air Force bases around the United States. After returning the Storm Lake area in 1972, Arleta lived with her mother. She attended church faithfully at the Storm Lake Assembly of God before she became ill and had to live in various nursing homes, spending the last years of her life at the Fonda Care Center.

Arleta will be remembered as a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, a treasured sister, a caring aunt and a valued friend.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four children: Dana and husband Don Kenney of Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, Steve Cossman of Des Moines, Iowa, Sharon Moore and Diane Fogarty and partner Harold Bainter, all of Storm Lake; seven grandchildren: Shannon and husband Hunter Roth of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Marshall Touchberry of Wayne, Nebraska, Andrea Moore of Forest City, Iowa, Charles Robbins, Jr. of Storm Lake, Timothy Fogarty and Tamara Fogarty of Des Moines, Iowa, and Clare Kenney of Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; a sister, Marlene and husband Les Grunig of Storm Lake; brother-in-law, Charles Perrin and wife Dorothy of Cherokee, Iowa; step-sisters-in-law: Grace Harrison of Menomonie, Wisconsin, and June Harrison of Altoona, Wisconsin; step-brother, Wayne and wife Arlene Harrison of Elk Mound, Wisconsin; and many other extended family members, as well as a host of friends.

Preceding Arleta in death were her parents; her step-father, John Harrison; two sisters: Doris R. and her husband Howard Hall and Joyce Perrin; step-brothers: Elwood Harrison and Herbert Harrison; a nephew, Dan Perrin; and her children’s father, Donald Cossman.

Darlene E. Hasenbank

Darlene E. Hasenbank, age 72, of Newell, Iowa died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Friday, October 7, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell, with Rev. Michael Harman officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell on Thursday, October 6, 2004 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present.

Darlene Elizabeth Kischer was born December 10, 1931 to Henry D. and Lenora M. (Ganz) Kischer in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized at home by Pastor Seltzer on December 20, 1931 and later confirmed on March 25, 1945 by Pastor O. H. A. Hoemann. Darlene spent her childhood years on her family’s farm north of Newell, Iowa, attending country school before going to high school in Newell. She graduated from Newell High School with the Class of 1949. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell where she was very active in the Ladies Aid, always happy to help whenever needed for church functions, such as serving funeral dinners.

Darlene was united in marriage to Arthur W. Hasenbank in Newell on her 19th birthday, December 10, 1950. Their union was blessed with three children: Wana, Layne and Rhonda. The Hasenbanks were married nearly 50 years before Art died on June 5, 2000.

Darlene and Art farmed, and she would help out wherever needed, whether outside or doing the bookwork, in addition to keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed gardening and liked to share the bounty produced.

Darlene will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, a caring grandmother and great-grandmother, a treasured sister and aunt, and a valued friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Wana and husband Brent Johnson of Story City, Iowa, Layne and wife Jo Hasenbank of Fonda, Iowa, and Rhonda and husband Scott Bringle of Laurens, Iowa; six grandchildren: Dana and Bret Johnson, Niki and husband Ben Carstens, Libby Hasenbank, Marlena Hasenbank, and Monica and husband Matthew Schimmel; two great-grandchildren: Jackson and Wyatt Carstens; a brother, Melvin Kischer of Newell; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Art.

Eileen Brenner

Eileen Brenner, age 83, of Schaller died on Sunday January 25, 2004, in Peoria, Arizona.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in Schaller.

Friends may call on Friday, January 30, 2004, anytime after 3:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. A Vigil service will be held at 7:30 on Friday during visitation at the funeral home.

Eileen Christenson was born on August 3, 1920, in Denver, Colorado, to Arthur and Myrtle (Brower) Christenson. As a child, she lived in her parents home, first in Hutchinson, Kansas and then in Holstein, where Eileen graduated from Holstein High School in 1938.

On September 14, 1942, Eileen was united in marriage to Harold A. Brenner in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with five sons: Stephen, Allen, Dennis, Douglas and Robert; and a daughter, Nancy.

Eileen and Harold moved to their farm near Schaller in 1943, where Eileen made a warm and comfortable home for her family. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, who treasured the time she spent with her family and friends.

Eileen had a “green thumb” and enjoyed gardening, and canning the bounty she produced. You could count on her having baked something delicious—cookies were a favorite, especially her “no bake” cookies—which she gladly shared with anyone visiting. She had a good and kind heart; she took care of everyone she met, even the stray animals that she fed.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Stephen and wife Bonnie Brenner of Sitka, Alaska, Allen Brenner and wife Fonda of Mesa, Arizona, Dennis and wife Lori Brenner of Chandler, Arizona, Douglas and wife Jackie Brenner of Peoria, Arizona, Robert Brenner of Schaller, Iowa, and Nancy Haukap of Sioux City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Preceding Eileen in death were her parents, her husband, Harold, and a grandson, Nathan Haukap.

Edith Kania

Edith Kania, age 77, of Storm Lake died on Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kania will be held on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be held in the Newell Cemetery under the direction of Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m on Sunday, February 15, 2004 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friends wishing to send condolences may do so online.

Edith Nielsen was born on August 13, 1926 on a farm west of Newell to Jens and Ottilda (Christensen) Nielsen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on September 26, 1926 and confirmed on Palm Sunday of 1941. Edith was a member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell.

As a child, Edith lived with her parents on their family farm. She attended rural schools, the last six years at Providence Consolidated School, where she graduated from high school. Edith took secretarial courses by correspondence and at night school. She enjoyed her work and meeting so many different people during her career as a secretary and bookkeeper. Edith retired in 1987 to stay home and take care of her mother.

Edith was married in 1953 to Stanley F. Kania. One daughter, Kari, blessed their union. Edith was a devoted mother to her daughter, despite the Kania’s divorce in 1955, providing a warm and loving home for her daughter and for her mother.

Edith found much to make life interesting and happy. She and Kari prized their wonderful summer vacation trips together during Kari’s school years, visiting places like California, Colorado, the Black Hills, and Wisconsin. Edith also cherished memories of a trip that she and her mother took to Denmark to visit family there. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers and gardening. Edith was particularly fond of roses and delighted in encouraging them to bloom.

But most beloved to Edith was her family. She treasured every moment she was able to spend with them. Her grandchildren were precious and very dear to her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kari and husband David Jansen of Lakeside, Iowa; grandchildren: Shane Jansen of Omaha, NE and Kimberly Jansen of Tampa, FL; and many other extended family members and friends.

Preceding Edith in death were her parents and her brother Tage Nielsen and her brother and sister-in-law, Carl G. and wife Vera Nielsen; and her sister, Anne Carpenter.

Jodie K. Schulke

Jodie K. Schulke, age 42, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 in Colorado Springs.

Memorial Services were held in Colorado Springs on Thursday, August 12, 2004. Private family graveside services will be held Friday, September 3, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at Galva East Cemetery in Galva, Iowa, with Reverend Paul Egger of St. John Lutheran Church in Galva officiating. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Jodie K. Schulke, age 42, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 in Colorado Springs.

Jodie Kae Schulke was born August 5, 1962 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Geroge E. and Judy K. (Else) Schulke. In December of 1967, she moved with her family to live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she lived until the time of her death.

Jodie was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake on September 9, 1962. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Colorado Springs, where she was confirmed as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She continued her education at Mitchell High School and Pikes Peak Community college. She worked in various food service industries, most recently as a manager with Papa Murphy’s. Jodie enjoyed children, her collection of more than 85 dolls, doing crossword puzzles, and needlework.

In 1991, she was diagnosed with diabetes, of which she suffered complications that led to her unexpected death.

Jodie is survived by her mother, Judy K. and husband Gaylen Winterhof of Galva, Iowa; her father, George E. Schulke, Sr. of Waxachaxie, Texas; three sisters: Kim and husband Dave Thomas of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Jill and husband Bob Bryant of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Mindy Schulke and Dave Natale of Arden Hills, Minnesota; two brothers: George Schulke, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado and William Schulke of Fort Collins, Colorado; a niece and nephew: Rossy Natale and Nick Schulke of Arden Hills, Minnesota; paternal grandmother, Martha Schulke of Marion, Iowa; other special family: Scott , Tonia and Bailey Winterhof of Galva, Iowa and Jeff, Krista, Jessica and Kyle Johnson of Albert City, Iowa; and many special aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as a host of friends.

Jodie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edith and Arnold Else and Walter Schulke; her uncle, Bill Else; and her cousin, Randy Else.

Chad Thompson

Chad D. Guinn Thompson, age 29, of Storm Lake, Iowa died at his residence on Wednesday, September 28, 2005.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2005 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake, with Pastor Jack Barber officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta with military rites by the AMVETS Post #66 of Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Chad David Guinn Thompson was born December 6, 1975 in Harrisonville, Missouri, Cass county to Michael and Beverly (Lee) Guinn. He attended elementary schools in Alta, Storm Lake, and Lawton-Bronson, graduating in 1994 from Lawton-Bronson High School. Following high school, Chad entered the U.S. Air Force on May 2, 1995 serving in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm at Fort Pope, North Carolina in the Honor Guard. He received the Air Force Training Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal, prior to his honorable discharge on November 30, 1995. Upon his discharge, Chad received technical training for auto mechanics.

Chad was currently employed at Prairie Fabrications, a division of Bodholdt Brothers Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed drawing and playing his guitar.

Left to cherish his memory are mother, Beverly Guinn of Alta; two brothers, Jamie Guinn and his wife Dyanna of Monett, Missouri and Andy Guinn and Kim Marshall of Mount Vernon, Missouri; one sister Tammy Miller and her husband Corey of Alta; ten nieces and nephews; special friend, Erin McAlister of Bayard, Iowa; aunts, uncles, and a host of other family and friends.

Chad was preceded in death by his father and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Earl E. Otto

Earl E. Otto, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Steven Schulz officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery at Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00.

Earl was born on a farm north of Galva, Iowa on October 1, 1915, the youngest of nine children born to John W. and Sophie (Hustedt) Otto. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover, in rural Alta, Iowa on October 24, 1915. He attended school in rural Cherokee county and at St. John’s Lutheran Church (school) at Hanover, where he was confirmed on March 24, 1929. When his father retired, the younger members of the family moved with his parents to Storm Lake in 1934. Earl worked in Storm Lake and at Richard’s Furniture in Spencer.

On June 4, 1941, he married Eleanor Miller. They had three children: James, Nancy and Bruce.

Earl farmed north of Alta for four years. Then in the spring of 1947, he built Otto Furniture on North Lake Avenue in Storm Lake. This area was then just a two-lane paved road with just a couple of small buildings. He opened Otto Furniture for business in September of 1947 and was active in the store for the next 47 years. His son, Bruce, now runs the business.

Earl was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and has been a member of the Storm Lake Rotary Club since 1950, serving as president of the club in 1971—72.

Earl loved to travel and to play golf. His greatest love was his home and family, and he greatly loved his grandchildren.

Preceding Earl in death are his parents; brother Raymond in infancy; brothers Edgar, Ernest, Martin, Harry and Roy; sisters Marie Marten and Sadie Mohn; and one granddaughter, Angela Leigh Otto.

Survivors include his wife of more than 64 years, Eleanor of Storm Lake; son James and wife Janet Otto of Spirit Lake, Iowa; daughter Nancy and husband Craig Sargent of Storm Lake; son Bruce and wife Jane of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Julie and husband David McAdon, David and wife Jennifer Otto, Douglas and wife Jennifer Otto, Alicia and husband Tim Buhr, Jennifer and husband Marcus Seaton, Rachel Otto, Marie Otto, Rochelle Otto and Christina Otto. Earl is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Leila and Paige Seaton, Emma McAdon and Madelyn Otto, as well as extended family and many friends.

Harold L. “Harry” Whitney

Harold L. “Harry” Whitney, age 74, of Schaller, Iowa died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Schaller United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday, July 20, 2005 from 2-8:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 2-4:00 and also from 6-8:00 pm.

Harry was born June 27, 1931 to Robert and Mabel (Wright) Whitney in Butler County, Iowa. He was baptized in the Methodist Church in Waverly, Iowa. Harry received his education in the Waverly Community School, attending all 12 grades there before graduation from Waverly High School with the Class of 1949.

On October 5, 1952, Harry was united in marriage to Helen “Sukey” Rawls at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Terri, Steven, Angela and Cindy. While living in the Waverly area, Harry was engaged in farming and also owned and operated a portable feed mill. He was a member of the Waverly Fire Department, Kiwanis, and a 4-H Leader in Bremer County.

Harry and Sukey moved to northwest Iowa for employment in building ambulances, and made their home in Schaller. He was a member of and past Deacon in the Schaller Presbyterian Church, was a founder of the Schaller Ambulance Service in 1976, served on the Sac County Ambulance Commission, served as an E.M.T. in Schaller from 1976—1993, and served on the Schaller Park Board. Harry was a long-time employee of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes and later of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Homes, where he could be counted on to know everyone who came to any visitation or funeral. Harry turned his lifelong passion and talent for woodworking into a part-time job, wherein he would make many beautifully crafted wood pieces.

Harry’s strong sense of community service combined with his outgoing personality and willingness to lend a hand at any job made him an icon in the Schaller community. He liked to join his friends for regular coffee breaks and he loved to go boating and on fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Morningside College football fan. He didn’t claim to know much about computers, but he liked to play the computer game, “Free Cell.” Harry liked to tease and joke with everyone and could bring a smile to anyone’s face.

But most important to Harry was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured the time he spent within his family circle. He loved to travel to see his kids and grandkids and enjoyed watching them in their various activities. He personally introduced each and every one of his eight grandchildren to his or her very first taste of ice cream. Harry’s eyes sparkled when he was happy and his eyes always sparkled when he was with his family or talking about his family. He will be forever loved and missed by all whose lives he touched.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved Sukey—his wife of over 52 years; daughter Terri and husband Curt Rininger of Schaller, son Steve and wife Lil Whitney of Virginia Beach, Virginia, daughter Angela Whitney of Schaller, and daughter Cindy and husband Ron Reckamp of Schaller; eight grandchildren: Cody and wife Alison Rininger of Sioux City, Iowa, Shane Whitney of Virginia Beach, Krysten Reckamp of Schaller, Amber Whitney of Virginia Beach, Whitney Rininger of Schaller, Tanner Rininger of Schaller, Danielle Reckamp of Schaller and Nicholas Batton of Schaller; sisters-in-law Dorothy Whitney of Waverly and Carla Armagost of Ocala, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; brother Merwyn; sister Edna Mae and her husband Boyd Glidewell; and his granddaughter, Brandi Jo.
