Lois Hess

Lois Hess, age 92, of Council Bluffs, Iowa and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 20, 2006 at Amelia House in Council Bluffs.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hess are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m.

Lois and her husband, Roy, were long-time residents of Storm Lake. They farmed Northeast of Storm Lake until their retirement. During her lifetime, Lois was a rural school teacher in Schaller, Iowa , a piano teacher, and a homemaker. She was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. After retirement, the couple moved to Athens, Georgia.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Roy; an infant daughter, Sharon Kay; a grandson, Brian Decker; and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her sons: Ronald Hess, Vancouver, Washington; Roger Hess, Vancouver, Washington; Randall Hess, Baltimore, Maryland; her daughters: Donna Decker, Athens, Georgia; Mavis Hauser, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mary A. Euchner

Mary A. Euchner, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Friendship Haven Nursing Home in Fort Dodge.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 7, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial will follow at the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.

Mary Adeline Garver was born on July 2, 1927 to H.(Harry) Woodford and Edna (Hoppe) Garver in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She lived with her family in Fort Dodge where she attended school, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1945. Following graduation, Mary attended Iowa State Teachers College where she attained her bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1949.

On November 23, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Richard Euchner in Fort Dodge. They were married 50 years before Richard died on April 6, 2001. This union was blessed with two children: Ann and Ruth.

Mary took great pride in making a warm and safe home for her family. She liked to travel, read and enjoyed all the time she spent with her family. Her home was made in Storm Lake at 1312 Lochedem for over 45 years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Ann Myles and her husband Kent of Sylvania, Ohio and Ruth Ellen Euchner of Manchester, Michigan; one granddaughter, Sara Myles of Sylvania; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Jim (Marian) Euchner, Russell (Beverly) Euchner, Chuck (Connie) Euchner; special friends Melvin and Clara Samuelson; niece, Carrie Olmsted of East Lansing, Michigan and the Euchner family nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents, husband Richard, and sister Ann Olmsted.

Wilbert F. Jenkins

Wilbert F. Jenkins, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Friday, August 18, 2006 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison with Military Honors by the VFW Post #8 of Denison

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilbert F. Jenkins was born February 13, 1918, near Woodbine, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Helen (Holcomb) Jenkins. He was raised on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. Wilbert received his education in rural and Dow City High School, graduating in 1937. After graduation, he worked as a farm hand until entering the United States Army in September 1942. He served in the medical section of 841st Engineer Aviation Battalion in the South Pacific for 32 months, receiving his honorable discharge on January 16, 1946.

He was united in marriage to Marcella Borgstahl on May 18, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children.

“Bert” as he was known, took up a lifetime career as a meat cutter and market manager in various companies and due to transfer, lived in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. He was manager of the meat department for Randalls Super Value in Huron, South Dakota for 18 years. In October 1979, Bert retired. He and Marcella moved to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho where they lived for 12 years, moving to Storm Lake in August 1991.

Bert was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He was also a member of the VFW. Over the years, Bert found much enjoyment in fishing, gardening and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Linda Marie; five brothers: Jess, Layrette, Eugene, Rule and Ancil; and one sister Helen Lyman.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marcella of Storm Lake; son David Jenkins and his wife Patty of Brandon, South Dakota; daughter Marsha Brooks of Sturgis, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Joseph A. Jenkins of Brandon, South Dakota, John P. Jenkins of Brandon, South Dakota, Melissa Brooks of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Carrie Allen and her husband Jamey of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; three great grandchildren: Ashton, Alexis and Ava Allen of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; one brother, Romanan Jenkins and his wife Evelyn of Odebolt, Iowa; two sisters-in-law Joanne Jenkins of Denison, Iowa and Edith Jenkins of Woodbine, Iowa; nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

Eldora H. Ripke

Eldora Ripke, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

Eldora was born August 9, 1925 in Storm Lake, the daughter of William and Lea (Boettcher) Ripke. She was baptized as an infant on August 14, 1925 and confirmed her faith as a youth on April 2, 1939 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. She attended Zion Lutheran School before graduating from Newell High School in 1943. Eldora continued her education at Iowa Lutheran Nursing School in Sioux City, Iowa, training extensively as a surgical nurse before graduating in 1949. She worked as a nurse her entire life, serving in the Minneapolis VA Hospital, the Omaha VA Hospital and the VA Hospital in San Diego, California. Eldora retired in 1982 and returned to Storm Lake to live.

Eldora was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. She enjoyed music very much, especially classical music. Eldora was active in the German Choir during the years she lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had a great appreciation for antiques. To relax, Eldora liked to work in her garden and she enjoyed traveling, especially when she could drive her car. She will be remembered by her family as a dear sister and treasured aunt, and missed deeply by those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Edna (Marvin) Grote of Storm Lake, her sister-in-law, Lorene Ripke of Albert City, Iowa; nephew Larry (Janene) Grote; nieces LeAnn Ripke, Needra Ripke, Brenda Bayliss, and Evonne (Darrell) Veencamp; extended family and many friends.

Eldora was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Martin and Herbert; one sister, Norma; and an infant sister.

Edward W. Shaw

Edward W. Shaw, age 96, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Jerry Oakland officiating. Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present to greet friends. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Edward Warren Shaw, the only child of Charles and Lz (Ohl) Shaw, was born August 25, 1910 at Lake View, Iowa. The family moved from Lake View to Wall Lake, Iowa, where Ed attended public school and graduated with the Class of 1928. After attending college, he returned home to work with his father at the Wall Lake Savings Bank.

He was united in marriage to Elinor L. Jensen on August 26, 1933 at her parents’ home in Lake View. In 1938 the couple moved to Storm Lake, where Ed worked as an assistant cashier at the Commercial Trust and Savings Bank. In 1942, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his discharge, he returned home in 1951 and started in the insurance business with New York Life—a career that spanned more than 50 years.

Ed was a life member of the NYLIC Clubs with New York Life, a 50-year member of both the Order of Eastern Star and Jewel Masonic Lodge #309 in Storm Lake, the American Legion and Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City. He was past president of the Storm Lake Rotary Club, a longtime member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees and boards in the community over the years.

He loved to fish and hunt when he was younger and was always glad to lend a helping hand to his many friends whenever he could. Ed will be remembered as a trusted insurance professional who was always held in high regard by his policy holders. His lifelong concern for the well-being of others, his family, friends and policy holders was always first and foremost in his mind.

He is survived by his son, Thomas and his wife Sharan of San Antonio, Texas and two granddaughters, Stephanie Shaw of San Mateo, California and Adrienne Shaw of Berkeley, California.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Elinor, on April 24, 2003.

Kenwood “Bill” Steffen

Kenwood “Bill” Steffen, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, October 18, 2007 in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services for Mr. Steffen will be held on Monday, October 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 3:30 and a vigil service will be held at 7:00, both at the funeral home during visitation hours.

Kenwood C. Steffen was born October 5, 1917 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Carl A. and Mabel (Eckhardt) Steffen. He was raised in Storm Lake and received his education in the local school system, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1936.

In April of 1941, Bill was united in marriage with Bonnie McGilligan in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with four children: Carla, Barbara, William and Tom.

Bill was employed by Iowa Public Service Company in Storm Lake for 30 years. He retired in 1982. Bill enjoyed his membership in SERPACI Car Club, was very interested in steam locomotives with whistles and liked mechanical work. A devoted family man, Bill treasured the time he was able to spend with them. He will be missed dearly.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Bonnie of Storm Lake; daughter Carla (Garth) Logan of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Barbara (Richard) Geisinger of Cherokee, Iowa; son William (Karen) Steffen of Storm Lake; son Tom (Diane) Steffen of Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren: Desiree Logan, Eric Logan, Clinton Logan, Elizabeth Heisler, Rick and Rob Geisinger, Christine and Nicholas Steffen, Chad and Mandi Dreckman; 13 great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kendrick Steffen; one sister, Audrey Hay; one grandchild, Grant Logan; and one great-grandchild, Mathew Geisinger.

Lucille M. Dannenberg

Lucille M. Dannenberg, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be held onFriday, June 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Friends may call for visitation on Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 6-8:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Lucille Magdalene Miller was born July 18, 1916 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Henry and Ida (Whitmer) Miller. She was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church, receiving her baptism on August 6, 1916 and confirmation on June 23, 1929. She attended and later graduated from Storm Lake High School.

On December 28, 1944, Lucille was married to Melvin Dannenberg in Storm Lake, Iowa. This union was blessed with a daughter, Candace. Lucille and Mel lived on their farm south of Storm Lake. Lucille maintained her tax preparation office in downtown

Storm Lake until Mel’s retirement and their move to town. At that time, Lucille established her business at home.

Among Lucille’s greatest pleasures was spending time with her friends. She was a member of Wa-Tan-Ye business women’s club, where she worked at various projects alongside dear friends. Lucille was a member of several card groups and enjoyed many hours of card games with her family and friends over the years. Creating beautiful greeting cards was another hobby of Lucille’s, as she used her computer and all sorts of supplies to hand-paint and decorate each and every card.

Her pet cat, Dusty, was her constant companion and source of joy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Candace Madich and husband Robert of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Shirley Fliess of Las Vegas, Nevada; several nieces and many friends.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; her brother, Henry Miller and sister-in-law, Alice Miller;and brother-in-law, John Fliess.

Maria del Carmen Boccanfuso Battaglia

Maria del Carmen Boccanfuso Battaglia, age 59, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 10:30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend William Vit officiating.

Friends may call anytime from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Maria was born October 1, 1948 in Tandil, Argentina, the daughter of Jose Alberto Battaglia and Maria Elena Ballestreros. She received her education in Manuel Belgrano.

Maria enjoyed singing and dancing, and liked to sew and knit. She enjoyed playing croquet and liked to travel from Argentina to the United States and then to Mexico.

A devoted and beloved mother, Maria’s caring presence will be missed each day by those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cristal Stephanie Boccanfuso de Battaglia; and her sisters Marta Leticia (Angel) Battaglia de Bergamin and Beatriz Mabel Battaglia de Dominichini. She is further survived by her surrogate son, Christopher Alexis Bermudez Cruz and her friend Gabriel Venegas, as well as extended family and many friends.

Maria was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Elena Ballesteros and her father, Jose Alberto Battaglia.

May she rest in peace.

Maria nacio el primero de Octubre de 1948 en Tandil, Argentina, hija de Jose Alberto Battaglia y Maria Elena Ballesteros. Ella recibio su educacion en Manuel Belgrano. Maria disfrutaba cantar y bailar y le gustaba coser y tejer. Ella viajo de Argentina a los Estados Unidos y tuvo la opportunidad de conocer Mexico.

Dedicada y querida madre la presencia de Maria va a ser extrañada dia a dia por esos que la quieren y la conocen.

En vida queda su hija Cristal Stephanie Boccanfuso de Battaglia, y sus hermanas Marta Leticia (Angel) Battaglia de Bergamin y Beatriz Mabel Battaglia de Dominichini. Tambien sera recordada por Christopher Alexis Bermudez Cruz que fue como un hijo para ella, por su amigo Gabriel Venegas al igual que el resto de sus familiares y amigos.

Ahora Maria estara en compania de su madre, Maria Elena Ballesteros y su padre, Jose Alberto Battaglia.
