of Clear Lake and Des Moines, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 1994, at
the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Des Moines.

Myrna Atkins
Word has been received of the death of Myrna Atkins, 85, a former
Clear Lake, Iowa resident. She died Dec. 25, 1994 in San Marcos,
Calif., after being ill for about one year with cancer.
The Atkins family lived in Clear Lake many years before moving
to California in 1970.
She is survived by her husband, G.W. (Tom) Atkins, 1401 El Norte Parkway,
San Marcos, Calif. 92069; two sons, Tommy and his wife, Kathy, and
Richard (Dick) and his wife, Gloria, both of the Port Ludlow, Wash.
area; several grandchildren; a brother and two sisters in

Shane Aaron Starrett
Shane Aaron Starrett, infant son of Clay Starrett and Susan Morris,
of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 1995, at the Children's Hospital
in Minneapolis, Minn.Shane Aaron Starrett was born Dec. 31, 1994, at
the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, East, Mason City, the son of
Clay Starrett and Susan Morris. Funeral services were held Friday,
Jan. 6, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the
Rev. Fred Lewis of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
He is survived by his father and mother, Clay Starrett and
Susan Morris, of Clear Lake; maternal grandparents, Jane and
Lindsey Morris, of Clear Lake; paternal grandmother, Susan Starrett,
Clear Lake; maternal great-grandparents, Clara Harris of Ft. Dodge
and Betty and Derl Morris, Belmond; paternal great-grandparents,
Howard and Ethel Bolang of Luck, Wis.; maternal great-great-grandparents,
Ruby and Glenn Morris and Dena Pals, Belmond; one aunt, Dara Morris,
Clear Lake; four uncles, Michael Morris, John H. Starrett and his wife,
Dianne, Kyle and Adam Starrett, all of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Starrett;
paternal great-grandparents, Susan K. and John Starrett; maternal
great-grandfather and maternal great-great grandfather.
Ethel Ruth Viola (nee) Prestholt
Ruth V. Clapper
Ruth V. Clapper, 83, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Jan. 6, 1995, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice In-Patient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.Funeral
services were held Monday, Jan. 9, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial was
in the Elim Cemetery, Fertile, Iowa.
The family suggests memorials in memory of Ruth V. Clapper to
Hospice of North Iowa or Church of Christ in Fertile.
Ethel Ruth Viola Clapper was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Grant Center
Township, rural Clear Lake, the daughter of
Nels and Anna (Erickson) Prestholt.
She attended Grant Center #5 Rural School until the
eighth grade. She graduated from Fertile High School in 1929 and
then took a nursing course through Mayo Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
On July 6, 1934, she was united in marriage to Dallas L. Clapper, in
Mason City, Iowa. The couple farmed north of Clear Lake and also
operated Clapper Truck Line. They moved into Clear Lake in 1962, but
later returned to the family farm.
Ruth was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent at Grant Center
Sunday School. She enjoyed raising flowers, knitting and fishing with
her family and husband.
She is survived by a son, Dale Clapper and his wife, Janice K.,
of Clear Lake; a daughter, Blanche Schulze of Clear Lake;
six grandchildren, Denise Powers and her husband, Jeff, of
Panama, David Clapper and his wife, Christie of Buffalo Center,
Chad Clapper and his wife Angela, Clear Lake, Rick Schulze and his
wife, Holly, of Buffalo Center, Bruce Schulze and his wife, Diane,
Clear Lake, and Jeffrey Schulze and his wife, Rhonda, Garner;
11 great-grandchildren, Alicia Powers, Christina Powers,
Joshua Schulze, Danielle Schulze, Jeremy Schulze, Nichole Schulze,
Steven Schulze, Ryan Schulze, Heather Schulze, Megan Schulze and
Chad Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother,
Alfred Prestholt; and two sisters, Ethel Julianna Prestholt, and
Verna Orcutt.
Organist Amy Kuns accompanied soloists Kathy Bauer and Dan Miller.
Pallbearers were Don Prestholt, Paul Prestholt, Richard Clapper,
Gene Johnson, Gary Bauer and Larry Nelson.
Frederic W. Rogers
Frederic W. Rogers, 67, of Bell Gardens, Calif., formerly of
Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at Bay Harbor Hospital,
Harbor City, Calif. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 9,
at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the
Rev. Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was
in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Frederic was born Dec. 7, 1927, at Clear Lake, son of
Fred and Anne (Olson) Rogers.
He married Cleopha Cap on Dec. 9, 1958, at Huntington
Park, Calif.He attended Clear Lake schools, and
later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He
attended the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of
Delta Sigma Nu fraternity. Later, he received a U.S. Air Force
commission, serving as a radar officer.
For many years he worked as a sales representative for Carter
Company, a Los Angeles, Calif., based truck parts supplier.
He retired in 1991.
He is survived by one step-daughter, Maria Brightweiser, Elkhorn,
Neb.; two step-sons, Bob Labs, Omaha, Neb., Roger Labs, Omaha, Neb.;
five brothers-in-law, Marvin Cap, Carlsbad, Calif., Ernie Cap,
Orange, Calif., Gordon Cap, Mena, Ark., Lawrence Cap, Keystone, S.D.,
Clement Cap, Baltic, S.D.; two cousins, Janet Toinby, Clear Lake,
and Lois Wangberg, Clear Lake.

Laura Roenfranz, 92, of Ventura, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 1995,
at her daughter's home in Minneapolis, Minn.
Memorial services were held in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Jan. 3,
with interment at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Tom T. Torres
Tom T. Torres, 65, died Dec. 25, 1994, in Torrance,
Calif. A memorial service was held at the Green Hills Mortuary Rancho
Palos, Verdes, Calif. The body was cremated.
Tom Torres was born on Dec. 27, 1929.He was a resident of Clear Lake.

in Clear Lake, including his friend of many years, Marjorie Leek.
He is survived by four sons, of California; three sisters,
Torrance, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Linda L. Peterson
Mrs. Linda L. Peterson, 49, of Clear Lake, died
Sunday, Jan. 15, 1995, at her home. Funeral services will be held today
(Wednesday), Jan. 18, at 1:30 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of Clear Lake United
Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. The family suggests memorials to the Linda
L. Peterson memorial fund.
Linda was born Aug. 24, 1945 in Mason City, the daughter of
Charles Raymond Kennedy and Esther (nee) Weitzel Kennedy.
She graduated from Mason City High School in 1963 and graduated
from LaJames College of Cosmetology.
In 1965 she married Brian Buehler. They lived in the Clear Lake
area. She worked as a hair stylist in Mason City.
On July 1, 1984, she married Richard Peterson in Mason
City. Linda worked for Opportunity Village, Clear Lake, in the Morning
Sun Cottage from 1983-1994. She loved her grandchildren, and her dog
Oscar. She also enjoyed helping others and especially helping her
neighbors.
She is survived by her mother, Esther Mulhern; her husband, Richard
Peterson; two daughters, Kelly Dickes and her husband, Al, and
Kristi Wilcke and her husband, Kevin, all of Clear Lake; six
step-children, Regina Slavens and her husband, Jimmy, Lebanon, Mo.,
Leonard Peterson and his wife, Floy, Klemme, Iowa, Jennie Spence and
her husband, Travis, Dawn Slavens and her husband, Arthur, all of
Lebanon, Mo., Samuel and Sarah Olsen, both of Fairmont, Minn.; one
brother, Robert C. Kennedy and his wife, Mary Ann, Fertile, Iowa;
two sisters, Mary Whitnable and her husband, Roger, Plymouth, Iowa,
and Arlene Kafer and her husband, Jerry, Sheffield, Iowa; three
grandchildren, Ryan Wilcke, Colby Dickes and Brice Wilcke; nine
step-grandchildren, Charity Slavens, Tommy Lee Slavens, Jimmy Slavens,
Aaron Michael Peterson, Halie Kay Peterson, T.J. Spence,
Autumn Spence, Brendon Spence and Chakara Slavens.
She was preceded in death by her father; step-father, Marvin Mulhern;
and one sister, Violet McCloud.
